The spate of poverty in Nigeria is still rife as some mothers who just delivered babies have been being detained in the hospital over failure to settle medical bills.

Eight women, who were newly delivered of babies, have been detained at the Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, Lagos over their inability to pay accrued hospital bills arising from delivery services.



Consequent upon this detention, the movement of the affected women has been restricted to the premises of the Maternity and Child Complex (MCC) domiciled at the Alimosho General Hospital.



The women, who often wear uniforms provided by the hospital, are closely monitored by security officials on duty who ensure that they are always restricted within the MCC.



Investigation by New Telegraph shows that it is not only security officials that monitor the detained patients, even nurses on duty keep an eye on the patients anytime any of them steps out of the ward where they are being held.



One of the detained women, Fati Mohammed, had now been abandoned by her spouse owing to the couple’s inability to pay baby delivery service fee. Also detained are Mrs. Anna Ifoga, who is a petty trader; Mrs. Funmilayo Adegboye, also a petty trader, and Mrs. Basirat Kosoko.

​After going viral for resigning as a priest, a former Reverend Father has revealed that he is set to marry his fiancee.

Former Catholic priest, Rev. Patrick Henry Edet, has fixed March 17 for his marriage to his fiancée who he would unveil next week, according to The Independent.


The priest made it known on Tuesday during his Grace Family service.



Edet’s resignation from Catholic Church about six months ago generated a huge discourse in the media for weeks.



The popular Uyo-based priest and radio preacher, while addressing his radio audience on Planet 101.1FM, Uyo, said then that “the resignation marked the beginning of ‘freedom’ for his spirit and soul”.



He said: “From today henceforth, I cease to be a Catholic priest, in my spirit and in my soul. I forgive those who will criticise me, I live for God. I seek freedom for my soul. As I leave, I leave smiling. I am so happy that I am free.”



While expressing his joy, Edet said he should be addressed as Rev Patrick Edet.



Edet, who hosts a weekly Christian programme entitled: “Grace and Inspiration,” on Planet 101.1FM, Akwa Ibom State, added that there was no need for him to continue with the Catholic Church because peace deserted him while he was there.



He said after 11 long years, he strongly felt the need to leave, because he was feeling boxed in and it was affecting his personal relationship with God. He said leaving was the best thing, as he was now finally free.

The Police on Monday arraigned a 33-year-old man, Love Ita, in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged sexual assault on two sisters.

The accused, a furniture maker, who resides at 3, Jafojo St., Iyana Ipaja, suburb of Lagos is tried for sexual assault.

The prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offence was committed in Dec. 2017 at the accused residence.

Ogu said that the complainant, Mrs Florence Okon, had left her two daughters, 4 and 6 years in the care of her brother in-law to further her education.

The prosecutor added that when the mother of the girls returned, the six-year-old daughter informed her that the accused used to finger her private part and that of her sister.

According to the prosecutor, the complainant checked the kids private parts and discovered scars all over.

Ogu added that the mother reported the case to the police and the accused was promptly arrested.

The offence contravened Section 135(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Taiwo Akanni, granted the accused bail of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Akanni adjourned the case till March 26, for mention. (NAN)

Following her accusation of turning to a snake through which she swallowed N36m from the vault in the account office of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, in Makurdi, Benue State, 16-year-old Dor, has opened a can of worms to DAILY POST.


Philomena Chieshe, a sales clerk in JAMB office, Makurdi shocked the world penultimate weeks ago after she claimed that her housemaid connived with another JAMB staff, Joan Asen, to “spiritually” swallow N36m from the vault in her office.


In her confessional statement while being interrogated by a team of auditors, she said that Joan Asen and her accomplices confessed that they have been stealing the money “spiritually” through a mysterious snake that always sneaked into the office to swallow the money from the vault.

According to her “It was a mystery to me too. I have been saving the money in the bank, but I found it difficult to account for it. So I started saving it in a vault in the office. But each time I open the vault, I will find nothing. I became worried and surprised how the millions of Naira could be disappearing from the vault.
“I began to interrogate everybody in the house and office, and no one could agree on what might have happened to the money. I continued to press until my housemaid confessed. She said that the money disappeared “spiritually”. She said that a “mysterious snake” sneaked into the house and swallowed the money in the vault.”

However, when DAILY POST reached out to the erstwhile housemaid, who was relieved of her job following the shocking revelation in November 2017, she denied ever confessing to have turned to a snake or swallowing any money.
Dor, a native of Angantiv in Obi LGA of Nasarawa State, recalled that her ‘madam’ truly went to Plateau State for a conference last year but she did not follow her.
According to her, few days after returning home from the crusade, hosted by a popular man of God in Jos, her boss (Philomena) asked her to go that she was relocating to Abuja.

“That was towards the end of 2017. I was at home when they went for the crusade. When madam came back from Jos, she asked me to go that they were relocating to Abuja and she would not go with me.
“I came to her house in 2015 July and I did not at any point steal even her one kobo before I left last year. Maybe she was not referring to me, but I am sure she didn’t have any maid before and after me,” Dor, who now resides in Karu area of Nasarawa said when an insider directed us to her new residence.

When this reporter stormed Philomena’s family house in High Level, Makurdi on Saturday to confirm if it was Dor, who actually turned to a snake, a man we met there said she had since relocated.
“Madam Philo no dey live here again,” he said rudely.
Meanwhile, when DAILY POST reached Fabian O. Okoro, JAMB’s director of Information and Technology, for update Monday morning, he did not reply our text at the time of this report.

A man has been caught with Indian hemp worth about N180 million hidden inside some Bibles and other containers.



According to a Sunday Vanguard report, the police in Mushin, Lagos have raided the hideouts of suspected criminal in Akala area leading to the seizure of bails of Indian hemp hidden in Bibles, fruits and bags valued at N80million.



During the raid carried out by a combined team of the Divisional Police Officers of Mushin Area Command, several shanties allegedly used as hideouts by criminals were destroyed.



A source told Sunday Vanguard that the Area Commander, Area D, Mushin, ACP Akinbayo Olasoji, led the DPOs under his jurisdiction for the operation.



The source added that investigation was ongoing to unravel those behind the Indian hemp.

Tragedy struck Monday morning in Mbiabam Ibiono Community, in Akwa Ibom State, when a Vulcanizer identified as Nkere-Uta, allegedly slaughtered his wife, Bella with a machete.

The incident, according to our source, occurred at about 8 am in a community which is about 15 minutes drive to Uyo, the State capital.

However, it could not be immediately ascertained why the man allegedly murdered his wife, who was in her early 30’s with five children.
THE Town Crier Newspapers reporter scooped that the poor woman who lost her life to domestic violence was a hard-working petty trader and well loved by all that knew her.

‎Contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State, Odiko McDon, confirmed the incident.
He said the suspect has been arrested by Itam Division of the Nigeria Police Force.

When asked the motive behind the murder, Odiko replied via WhatsApp: “Investigation is in progress… U will be communicated Pls”.
