A one-year old boy has survived the terrible attack by gunmen who invaded a Catholic church in Ozubulu killing many people.

A man, who lost his wife to the massacre at St. Philip’s Catholic Church, Ozubulu, Anambra State has narrated how his one-year-old boy survived a gunshot, according to a report by NewTelegraph.

The man identified as Mr. Peter Nwike while speaking at the Children’s Ward of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi revealed that the boy, Master Chimelum Nwike, was shot on his mother’s back and the bullet came out through his abdomen. Nwike, however, said the baby’s mother died on the Sunday night after operation.

He said: “On Sunday morning, my wife and my son left for church about 6a.m. After a while, we started hearing gunshots and subsequently shouts and weeping. I rushed to the church. On getting there, I met my son lying in a pool of blood on the floor alone.

"I did not know they have taken my wife to the hospital. I picked my son and we were rushed to this hospital but my wife died after operation that night. “I am from Ezza in Ebonyi State but I live at Umuezekwe Ofufe Amaka in Uzoakwa, Ozubulu where the incident took place. They shot my wife several times. A bullet hit my son in the back went out through his abdomen. The boy is responding to treatment but my wife is now in the mortuary.”

While speaking at a press release, the NAUTH Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr Anthony Igwegbe yesterday, told journalists that 22 persons were brought to the hospital about 7.30a.m. that bloody Sunday. Igwegbe said two out of them had been discharged, while five of them had been relocated to the University Orthopedic Centre at Oba in Idemili South Local Government Area, while the rest were responding to treatment.

He said: “We thank God that we were able to mobilise our nurses and doctors that Sunday and they were able to sustain them. However, we lost one woman that night because she sustained several shots in the heart and abdomen and after her operations she could not survive it.”

Miss Chisom Nwanya, daughter of one of the victims, said her mother was getting better. “She can now talk and sit down. The doctors and nurses here are doing their best. We are yet to recover from the shock but I thank God my mother is alive.”

Meanwhile, palpable tension has enveloped Ozubulu 48 hours after the bloodletting which held the community spell bound.

A visit to the community according to NewTelegraph revealed that the entire community looked deserted with fear and apprehension took over the environment. Most houses visited were deserted while the only compound where there were about seven people, they refrained from speaking about Alloysius Ikegwuonu aka Bishop or even talking about what happened as another woman feigned ignorance of who Bishop was. Apart from the market that had a few people display their wares, people were barely on the road.

St. Philip’s Catholic Church, where the gunmen killed about 15 people on the spot, among them Bishop’s father, up to Bishop’s palatial home, was taken over by policemen and soldiers. At Bishop’s house, two security personnel were guarding the gate, wielding pump action guns. One of the security officers, who spoke with New Telegraph, said that instruction given to them was that nobody should be allowed into the compound until Bishop arrives.

He said: “We are not supposed to even entertain any question from anybody. We are here to guard the house and we were given instruction not to allow anybody inside the compound until when Bishop is around. There is nobody in the house except the gateman.”

An elderly woman, Mrs. Phelomina Okaru, who spoke with our correspondent at the market, condemned the killing of innocent people who gathered in the church to worship God.

According to a report by P.M.Express, the incident happened at a popular hotel along Idimu/Ikotun Road in Ikotun, Lagos, and after the s*x romp, Linda ordered Simon to take her home as wife with her three children otherwise she will reveal what transpired between them to his lovely wife and cause their breakup.

It was gathered that she gave him a time frame within which to comply with her demand or she will expose his extramarital acts to his wife.

Simon who resided around Council Bus Stop at Idimu, was a successful businessman, married and had five children, while Linda had three children from an undisclosed husband but resided alone in Egbeda area of Lagos. Simon had met Linda at Area M Police Command in Idimu and they started dating.

It was reported that they had met severally at the hotel for sex before she decided to blackmail him demanding for the money and marriage.

Reports revealed that in order to keep his marriage, Simon paid her the N1.2m but Linda was not satisfied with that. She insisted that the money was for her s*x services, and so he needed to fulfill the second aspect of her demand.

When the man asked what she needed, she replied that he must marry her as his second wife because he was financially capable to marry two wives and equally train her children.

This became an issue and unbearable for Simon as he felt she was out to blackmail him.

It was gathered that Simon humbly called his wife and confessed what happened, and how he was being trapped by Linda.

Popular Uyo-based Catholic Priest and radio/TV preacher, Rev. Fr. Patrick Henry Edet, on Wednesday announced his resignation from the Roman Catholic Church.
The erstwhile Catholic priest made the announcement while addressing his radio audience on Planet 101.1FM, Uyo.

According to him, the resignation marked the beginning of ‘freedom’ for his spirit and soul.
He said: “From today henceforth, I cease to be a Catholic Priest, in my spirit and in my soul. I forgive those who will criticize me, I live for God. I seek freedom for my soul. As I leave, I leave smiling I am so happy that I am free.”

While expressing his joy, Edet said he should be addressed as Reverend Patrick Edet.

Erin Clark, a 19-year-old law student has gone viral after sharing creepy messages she received from a landlord in Paris.

According to a report on Daily Star UK, Erin Clark, from Edinburgh, appealed on social media for accommodation in the French capital and was told by "Franciso" she could have a room for free if she licked his feet.

However, it doesn’t stop there, though.

Franciso even sent pictures of his chastity belt and promised her she could have the key.

Erin, in a masterpiece of understatement, said the offer would be filed in her pile marked "course starts in two days and I'm homeless".

Her post has since attracted over 23,000 likes and 4,300 retweets.

Erin, who is studying at Edinburgh University, is moving as part of her course to the Paris Institute of Political Studies.

Her studies start on August 22 so she has been posting on various accommodation pages desperately scrambling for a place to say.

The Nigerian government is pursuing a strong tax policy that will be difficult to evade by people of different classes of labour.

She said some beggars were earning millions and that “proceeds from begging are taxable. You are supposed to pay taxes even if your means of income is begging”.

Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun said this in Lagos at a lecture at PWC’s Business School, with the theme: ‘Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration Scheme (VAIDS) Interactive Session for Executives and Business Owners.’

She said to ascertain the income status of the companies/individuals and their lifestyle, investigators would rely on information derived from Bank Verification Number (BVN), records of property ownership, records of foreign exchange allocation, and records of company ownership from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), among others.

A notorious Nigerian drug baron and dealer who was recently released from jail on drug related offence has been caught again dealing in drugs.

The city police today arrested notorious Nigerian drug peddler Okey once again with half a kg of heroin within a span of two months.

The accused was arrested from the under bridge of Surya Enclave during routine checking. While the police arrested him around two months ago and put him behind bars, he came out on bail recently. Within a few days, in another drug peddling move, he was caught red handed by the city police.

The police said the interrogation of a Nigerian national, arrested on June 14, had revealed that a drug network on a large scale was being run from Delhi and drugs were being supplied from the national Capital to Jalandhar.

As per the interrogation of Nigerian national Agu Emmanuel, 32, of Amokwe city, he had landed at the Mumbai airport in January on a tourist visa and had contacted his old mate Yohan at a local cloth market. He said after living in the Mohammad Arif market in Mumbai with Yohan for one month, he moved to Delhi where he met Kingsly and Iffai who was living at Om Vihar in Delhi.

While speaking to newsmen on Friday when she and her accomplices were paraded by the Police in Imo State, a 20-year-old woman, Chioma Fidelis, made some shocking confessions.

According to Punch Metro, the young lady confessed how she parted with her two months old son, Favour Fidelis, in exchange for half a bag of rice, six chairs, cement and N200,000 cash.

Explaining further, Chioma said she got pregnant out of wedlock, and that being unable to cater for the newborn, she opted to batter him for the aforementioned items.

While speaking shortly before signing the 2017 National Budget into law on Monday, the acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, revealed why he delayed in signing the budget and the deal he struck.

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday, explained while he delayed in signing the 2017 appropriation bill into law.

The National Assembly passed the N7.44 trillion budget on May 11, but Mr. Osinbajo only assented to it Monday, over a month after.

But speaking shortly before assenting to the law on Monday, the acting President said the delay was due to disagreements between the executive and the National Assembly on the changes made in the proposal.

According to him, the executive believed the changes fundamentally affected some of its priority programmes and would make implementation extremely difficult and in some cases impossible.

He said the leadership of the National Assembly however “adopted a commendably patriotic and statesmanlike approach on engagement in resolving these critical issues.’’

Mr. Osinbajo said the executive only agreed to sign the law after the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, made commitments to re-instate budgetary allocations for all important executive projects.

Police on Monday arrested three Chinese nationals in Thailand with 474 iPhones and nearly 350,000 SIM cards which they use to manipulate product information on WeChat.

Police officer Wassapan Sirikulkamonchat said in addition to the iPhones and SIM cards, police also found 21 SIM card readers and nine computers in the raid at their apartment.

He said the three reportedly confessed that they were hired to falsify the popularity of certain WeChat pages selling products in China by boosting social media “likes’’ and page views,.

A man has been found out to have given a little girl some drugs before forcing her to have s*x with him.

John Mathenge Kimani, a young Kenyan man is being tried for his crimes after allegedly r*ping a 14-year-old girl.

According to SDE, the girl has told police that the suspect forced her to smoke drugs before defiling her.

John Mathenge Kimani allegedly committed the offence on diverse dates between April 17 and May 25 within Industrial Area in Nairobi.

Police allege that Kimani lived with the minor in his house after she escaped from her brother’s house. Police said the suspect would often force the minor to smoke bhang before sleeping with her.
