Muslim in eastern Uganda cut off the hand of a 42-year-old father who left Islam to become a Christian in June, sources said.

Musa John Kasadah of Maumo village, Luuka District was ambushed as he tried to flee to safety with his family, who had joined him in putting faith in Christ at an open-air event on June 17, said his wife, Asiya Naigaga. The couple have six children, including two adults.

Kasadah was attacked at about 11:45 a.m. at Nakabondo village, near Bukadde village, while fleeing for safety to Nawaningi village, Iganga District, she said.

After Kasadah and his family had attended church services for three weeks and missed mosque Friday prayers, sources said, their pastor received a message from one of Kasadah’s brothers that read, “It has come to our attention that Musa Kasadah and the family are attending your church. This should stop immediately, otherwise your church is at risk.”

The pastor, whose name is with withheld for security reasons, arranged for the Kasadah family to be housed with a local Maumo official, she said. Area Muslims discovered their location after two weeks, and one of them showed up there ostensibly to obtain work on a sugarcane plantation as the family was preparing to leave, sources said.

In the course of talking with the homeowner, the Muslim learned that the Kasadah family was on their way to Iganga District, Naigaga said. The family had gone about 15 kilometers (nine miles) when four Muslim extremists in the middle of a road between sugarcane plantations stopped them, she said.

“They began questioning my husband, saying, ‘You thought that we shall not get hold of you? We have been tracking you from the house of [the local official, unidentified for security reasons] to here, and today is your last day to be alive. Allah has given you into our hands,’” Naigaga said. “They started beating my husband and then got hold of me and tied me up. They forced me to sing Christian songs as they began chopping off my husband’s hand.”

Naigaga said one of the assailants, Ndiwo Huraira, hit her husband with a large stick on the back while the others began striking him, and that Kasimu Magulu took a long Somali sword and began cutting off his hand, intending to kill him. After chopping off his hand and part of his forearm, a truck arrived with sugarcane workers, and the assailants disappeared into the plantation, she said.

“The workers on the truck then bound the wound of my husband’s hand and untied me and took us to the nearby clinic for first aid,” she said, adding that she phoned the local official. “He came and found my husband in great pain and arranged an ambulance that took him to Mbale Referral Hospital for specialized treatment.”

Waiting for Kasadah to heal, the family has yet to file a police report.

After more than 20 Christians lost their lives to terrorist attacks in two areas of Taraba state, Nigeria in the first half of August, a Catholic teacher on Sunday (Aug. 14) was kidnapped from a church site, sources said.

“The ISWAP terrorists broke into the premises of our church on Sunday, Aug. 14, as we were already in our bedrooms,” Awua told Morning Star News in a text message. “They were shooting indiscriminately in the premises of the church. Our catechist, Mr. Gideon Tsehemba, was forcefully dragged out of the church with a gun pointed at him. I was already in my bedroom, but they thought there was no one around except the catechist.”

The kidnappers have not made contact with anyone from the church, he said.

“We hope and pray they do not harm the catechist,” Awua said.

More than 20 Christians were killed in Gassol and Bali counties by Fulani and other terrorists during the first two weeks of the month, said Bali area resident Ayuba Matthew.

“Constant killings and maiming of innocent Christians by terrorists and [Fulani] have become very common here in Taraba state,” Matthew said. “So also, kidnappings of Christians has become a problem.”

The killings and kidnappings in the two counties displaced more than 10,000 people from the predominantly Christian villages of Karal, Ndiyanwo, Wurojam, Aenama, Garin Karfe, Wuro Jingi, Jauro Manu, Garin Gidado, Gurowa, Karekuka and Chul, he said.

Area resident Julius Ishaya told Morning Star News that terrorists attacked those communities and also the Gassol County villages of Wuro Bokki, Dadin Kowa, Yola-Kareje, Baba Aso, Zip and Namnai. In Bali County, [Islamic] terrorists also attacked Christians in Baba Juli, Garwa, Malam Baba and Bokki, he said.

On Sunday afternoon (Aug. 14) in Borno-Kurku village in Bali county, [muslim] terrorists shot and wounded a Christian, Tavershima Faga, said area resident Dorcas Titus.

“Mr. Faga was returning to his home from his church after worship service at about 2 p.m. when the [Muslim] terrorists shot him,” Titus said. “He’s currently receiving treatment in a local hospital here.”

On Friday (Aug. 12), gunmen reportedly attacked predominantly Christian Karekuka village, Gassol County, killing 13 people, including six defenders who shot and killed six of the assailants, according to local news reports.

Terrorism by ISWAP stretched into Taraba state
for the first time on April 19, killing six Christians, sources said. After an explosion killed the six Christians and wounded more than a dozen others at Christian-owned market where alcohol was served in Isware, Ardo Kola County, ISWAP released a statement on a telegram messaging channel asserting that it had detonated the explosive at “a gathering of infidel Christians,” according to local news reports .

ISWAP, an offshoot of Boko Haram, described its operatives as “soldiers of the caliphate in central Nigeria.”

While ISWAP has long carried out assaults in northeastern Nigeria, the Islamic extremists had not been active in Taraba until the attack, which was followed by another on April 22.

An Abubakar Shekau-led faction of Boko Haram in 2016 formally aligned with the Islamic State and changed its name to Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), though many Nigerians still refer to the Shekau-led faction of ISWAP by its original name, Boko Haram. The Islamic State recognizes the ISWAP faction that broke away from Shekau as its cell in the region, according to the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF).

An eyewitness said that “they were all on motorcycles, holding guns, and shouting Allah Akbar [Allah is greater].”

Similar stories have emerged from other attacks on Nigeria’s Christian communities. “We have no enemies but Fulani . . .” said one villager. “The [Fulani] that attacked our village came from Taraba state,” he added.

The local government authority of Loco County confirmed that six people were killed. Twelve people survived gunshot wounds during the attack on Tse Ngojov and Tse Valem Yaweh villages in Mbagum, Tombo Council Ward of Logo Local Government Area, LGA, of Benue state.

A local, Mrs. Salome Tor, said, “The attack which occurred at about 9 pm was unprovoked. The corpses of those killed and those injured were moved to the health facility at Ayilamo which is the closest town to the attacked community.”

She continued, explaining the context of the attack. “The attackers came when the farmers were tired from the farm work. They were ready to eat their night meal and to sleep.”

Authorities also confirmed that the [fulani] came from Taraba State. Loco County is facing a series of humanitarian crises caused by Fulani killing Christian farmers.

A case of gang rape and forced conversion of a minor girl has come to light from the Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh. After luring the minor girl with love, Jabril Qureshi first kidnapped her and then gang-raped her along with his four accomplices. After this, Jabril Qureshi threatened to kill the victim's father and brother if she did not convert to Islam.

According to reports, the incident has sparked outrage among Hindu organisations. Following the intervention of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the police have registered a case against five people, including the accused Jabril Qureshi, under serious sections on the complaint of the girl's father.

Police traced the mobile number and recovered the kidnapped girl. At the same time, the main accused Jabril Qureshi is still absconding with his four accomplices. The VHP has demanded the arrest of the absconding accused at the earliest.

The case is from the Khaga Kotwali area. The victim's father has told the police in his information that the minor girl lives in her maternal grandmother's house in the Khaga area of Fatehpur.

On August 6, Jabril Qureshi, a resident of Khaga, along with his four accomplices kidnapped the minor daughter. He then held her captive in his house and raped her. He said "The accused have threatened to kill me and my son if she does not convert. Our only demand is that a case should be registered against the accused under relevant sections and the police arrest them and send them to jail.''

VHP's provincial general secretary Virendra Pandey reached Khaga Kotwali and demanded the arrest of the accused. The DSP has said that on the complaint of the father, a case is being registered and efforts are being made to arrest all of them. All the accused will be arrested soon. A medical examination of the girl has been conducted, which has confirmed rape.

Pastor Godfrey Ssemujju, who oversees 130 Elim Pentecostal churches in Kiboga district, 75 miles northwest of Kampala, said the lives of his family and church members are also in danger.

“I am worried and very fearful,” Pastor Ssemujju said.

He said that one of the text messages read, “We warn you to stop converting our people to Christianity. If you continue doing this, then take note that [taking] your life is our [free ticket to] Jannah [Islamic paradise]. After killing you, our Allah will reward us with it.”

Pastor Ssemujju has received such messages for three months, with the threats increasing after his preaching at open-air events and one-on-one conversations in June and July led to 70 Muslims turning to Christ, he said. Some of the converts are teachers in Muslim elementary schools.

His churches have undergone a series of attacks in the past few months. On July 25, assailants killed tens of head of livestock belonging to one of his church members; on July 6, Muslims attacked Robert Bwenje[/url] , who succumbed to his injuries on July 10 at age 28, and assistant pastor Ambrose Mugisha, seriously wounding his head; and on June 26, Muslims demolished a church building in Rwomuriro village and threatened to kill Pastor James Baingana.

Pastor Ssemujju said 14 Muslims have threatened his life.

Muslims set fire to the home of a Christian family for leaving islam

In eastern Uganda, a family of eight lost their home after leaving Islam to put their faith in Christ, sources said.

Muslim extremists and their relatives in Maumo village, Waibuga Sub-County, Luuka District, on July 23 went to the home of Musa Kasadha, Kasadha said.

“Sheikh Huraira and his team, Ndiwo Huraira, Magulu Kassimu and Kapio Aramanzani, came to our home and inquired whether we had converted to Christianity,” Kasadha told Morning Star News. “We could not refuse but fearlessly told them that Christ has entered our lives, and that we’re new creatures. The attackers beat us badly.”

George Mwandah, chairperson of the local council, said he heard wailing and mobilized seven other council members to go to their rescue.

“Reaching the scene, we managed to rescue Musa and his wife, as well as the entire family who were being beaten badly and tortured,” Mwandah said. “A Muslim named Magulu Kassimu alleged that the Kasadha family had blasphemed the Islamic faith by converting to Christianity, and that hence they deserved to be killed.”

The assailants set the family’s home on fire, and they lost it and everything in it, he said.

“The family needs assistance in terms of clothes and food,” Mwandah said.

A Christian father and son in Egypt were attacked by a muslim on just outside the father’s shop.

43-year-old Joseph Israel and his son were stabbed in the Omranya district of Giza in the early morning hours. The assailant, Ahmad Muhammad, stabbed the two, shouting “Allahu Akbar”, infidels, and “La illaha ila Allah” (No God but allah), before some neighbors intervened and handed him over to authorities.

Joseph and his son Emil were transported to the hospital with threatening injuries. Video footage of the incident and eyewitnesses revealed that that the perpetrator first attacked Joseph and later turned on Emil when he rushed to his father’s aid.

The Coptic Christian victim owned a store selling alcoholic drinks. In a Muslim-majority country like Egypt, only Christians are able to establish liquor stores, leading to potential conflict with extremist Muslims, though conservatives often look down on the stores as well. However, the assailant had no prior relationship with the victims, leading many to conclude that Muhammad’s actions were driven by religious hatred.

One Coptic journalist, Nader Shokry, noted in a Facebook post that the recent escalation in attacks against Coptic Christians has been fanned by hate speech by Islamist leaders like Sheikh Abdullah Rushdy and Sheikh Mabrook Attia.

Sheikh Attia made controversial statements about a 21-year-old girl who was stabbed after declining a marriage proposal, saying it occurred because she was not wearing a hijab. He also mocked Jesus and the Sermon on the Mount in a later video.

The attack against the Christian father and son is the latest in a string of attacks dating back to April when a Coptic priest was stabbed on the street.

Another Christian man was shot 22 times in April, a woman was attacked with a sickle in June, and a mob reportedly attacked Christian homes later that month.

Iranian Islamic Court Denies Retrial Requests for Christian Converts

Iran: The Iranian Supreme Court has denied the retrial and release requests for Iranian Armenian Anooshavan Avedian, Christian convert Abbas Souri, and Christian convert Fariba Dalir. Courts rejected Avedian and Souri’s retrial requests without comment and did not review previous defense submissions.

They were arrested in November 2020 after a raid that resulted in the confiscation of Bibles and cell phones. The two were part of a gathering of approximately 18 other Christians and were arrested along with Maryam Mohammadi.

In May 2022, Avedian was sentenced to 10 years in prison for “propaganda against Islam” while he, Souri and Mohammadi received a 10-year deprivation of social rights. A later appeal hearing upheld Avedian’s sentencing of 10 years in prison plus 10 years deprivation of social rights. The 10-year restriction was lifted for Souri and Mohammadi and the fines were reduced.

Mary Mohammadi received notification in July that her retrial request was denied, with courts stating that her lawyer did not provide any evidence not rejected by the appeal court. Lawyers objected to the court’s claim because the appeal court had not adequately reviewed the same evidence.

The third, recently denied request came from Fariba Dalir. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) arrested her, along with six other Christians, in July 2021.

In November, the same judge from Avedian and Souri’s trial sentenced her to five years in prison, which was later adjusted to two years after a mistaken previous criminal history.

Dalir began serving her sentence on April 16 and appealed for conditional release or temporary leave. The Iranian Supreme Court denied her request.

The attack took place on July 30, near the village of Nova Zambézia in Macomia district, Cabo Delgado.

The killings were claimed by the Islamic State (IS) of Mozambique, known locally as al-Shabaab.

A statement by IS-Mozambique declared, “By the grace of allah, the soldiers of the Caliphate … killed two Christians, beheading them, and shooting them with weapons.”

Islamists gained effective control of an area of Cabo Delgado in 2017. The province has since been termed “the Land of Fear” owing to brutal violence meted out against both Christians and moderate Muslims.

Mozambican and Southern African Development Community forces had started to drive the Islamists back in late 2021. However, the Islamist insurgency now appears to be spreading.

In June 2021, IS-Mozambique claimed responsibility for the “beheading of several Christians” in Cabo Delgado. Another was beheaded during a raid on a Christian village in the neighboring province of Nampula.

Muslims came to the home of an evangelist who had held open-air events in eastern Uganda and killed him, sources said.

Cut with a sharp instrument that left his head and neck with deep wounds, Sozi Odongo was killed at his home in Omorio cell, Agule Town Council, Pallisa District, while his wife and four children hid in a room, she said. Odongo was 45.

The previous week, sources said, Odongo had received threatening text messages, including one from Nasuru Ongom, a Muslim sheikh in Palissa town, that read, “Please stop preaching to our people using the holy Koran, or else you risk your life.”

Odongo had cited the Koran and the Islamic hadiths (sayings of Muhammad) in evangelistic events directed at mixed-race Arabs in several villages of Pallisa District, sources said.

After such an event on, he arrived home and had eaten dinner with his family when they heard a group of people coming toward their house at about 7:15 p.m., said his wife, Stella Kilo. They locked the door.

“We heard them talk in the Arabic language and wondered what could be the matter,” Kilo said. “They then arrived and knocked at the door.”

She and their children went into the bedroom, but Odongo unlocked and opened the door, and the assailants began beating him on all parts of his body, she said.

“He screamed while mentioning the name of Nasuru, saying, ‘Leave me Nasuru, Nasuru, Nasuru, please don’t kill me, just tell your colleagues to leave me,’” Kilo told Morning Star News. “Then I heard a loud hit, and thereafter no more screaming.”

The assailants likely left, but she and the children remained in the bedroom for an hour, afraid that they were still there, she said.

Kilo opened the bedroom door and found her husband in a pool of blood, she said.

“I tried calling to my husband, but he was unable to talk, and I then rang a neighbor and informed him about the situation,” she said.

The neighbor arrived and informed the LC1 chairperson of the area, George Ochola, who came and found Odongo’s body cut several times in the head, neck and arm, Kilo said. Ochola called police, and officers immediately arrived.

Ochola filed a report with Agule police (CRB 434/2022), and sources said officers were searching for Ongom on suspicion of murder.

The Founder Of Islam Who Claimed To Be A Prophet Slept With A Dead Woman

The prophet of allah took off his gown and put it on Om Ali and slept with her in her grave and they kicked dirt on him, saying: ‘Oh messenger of allah, we saw you do something no one else has ever done.’ He said: ‘I dressed her in my gown, so she can wear the gowns of paradise and I slept with her in her grave to relieve her of the torments of the grave.'” She was the best of allah’s creatures to me after Abu Talib.

The two Arabic words ( ataja' ma'ha ﺍﺿﻄﺠﻊ ﻣﻌﻬﺎ ) which is translated above as "slept with her" are indeed used in Arabic to mean "intercourse." This is similar to the English idiom "to lay with her," which can literally mean nothing more than laying down with a woman, but often is a reference to intercourse. More than a few Muslim clerics have made this linguistic observation.

The Arabic scholar Demetrius explains: The Arabic word used here for "slept" is "Id'tajat," and literally means "lay down" with her. It is often used to mean, "lay down to have sex."
Muhammad is understood as saying that because he slept with her she has become like a wife to him so she will be considered like a “mother of the [Muslims].” This will supposedly prevent her from being tormented in the grave, since the [unbelievers] believed that as people wait for the Judgment Day they will be tormented in the grave. “Relieve of the torments” here means that the torment won’t be as much because she is now a “mother of the Muslims" after Muhammad slept with her and “consummated” the union.

Islam's four orthodox schools of jurisprudence (or madhahib al-fiqh ) -- namely, al-Hanafi, al-Hanbali, al-Maliki, and al-Shafi'i-- implicitly permit necrophilia. None of them actually address it on its own; rather, they give it a nod when it comes up in the context of other topics.
In the section on adultery, the Maliki teaching is this:

If a husband enters his dead wife -- any which way, from front or behind -- there is no penalty for him.

In 2011 a Moroccan cleric and founding member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, Sheikh Abdul Bari Zamzami, issued a fatwa permitting the Muslim husband to copulate with his dead wife. He prefaced his decree by saying that, although he does not necessarily approve of this act, it is not for him to ban what Islam permits. As proof, he cited the aforementioned rulings of Islam's schools of jurisprudence. <-Source

Following are excerpts from an interview with Moroccan cleric Abd Al-Bari Al-Zamzami, a member of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, and from an address delivered by Al-Zamzami.

Abd Al-Bari Al-Zamzami: A few days ago, I was asked by the Al-Sabbah newspaper about men who have sex with their dead wives. The truth is that this question took me by surprise, and I asked the journalist whether there really are people who do this deplorable and disgraceful act, which is not to be expected from a normal, balanced person. Only a mentally or psychologically unbalanced man would do such a thing.

In any case, I do not have the right to prohibit things. Fatwas are not shaped according to one’s will or whim. Rather, they reflect the law of Allah.

Therefore, I do not have the right to prohibit that act merely because I consider it deplorable.

The evidence I relied upon in this case was that a wife’s death does not sever her relations with her husband. A wife’s death does not sever her marital relations with her husband. She remains his wife post mortem, in the Hereafter, just as she was his wife in her lifetime.

It is perfectly clear that marital relations are not severed by a wife’s death. She remains her husband’s wife. This being the case, the husband has the right to do whatever he wants with her. For instance, he may kiss her. It is common for a husband to kiss his wife after her death, out of love and sorrow. This is something that is done, and there is nothing wrong with it.

The fact that such an act is permissible does not make it commendable or even acceptable. Having sex with your wife’s corpse is permitted. . .

At least he admitted, albeit accidentally, that the founder of Islam was a mentally or psychologically unbalance man.

In April 2012, when the Muslim Brotherhood's Muhammad Morsi was president of Egypt, the Islamist Egyptian parliamentarians tried to pass a law to make intercourse with dead people legal. <-Source

In late 2017, Sheikh Sabri Abdul Raeuf, a professor at Egypt's Al Azhar, the Islamic world's most prestigious madrassa, during a televised show in Egypt, when asked if it is permissible for a husband to penetrate his wife after death. He replied : "It is not favorable in Islam; however the Islamic law considers it as Halal," meaning "permissible," not a sin or crime. <- Source

“It is not favorable in Islam; however the Islamic law considers it as ‘Halal’ [translated into permissible]” he said. Sabri’s statements were in response to a question from the audience.

The university made a statement on Sunday that the investigation would focus on the medias’ role in the controversy, as the comments were shared without permission from the university’s administration..

Egyptian father goes on trial in Texas for shooting dead his two daughters, 17, and 18, in his taxi cab in 2008 honor killings because they were 'too American'

The trial of the father who authorities believe to have murdered his teenage daughters in a 2008 'honor killing' began Tuesday (Aug 2) after Monday's jury selection.

The prosecution is not seeking death penalty against Yaser Abdel Said, 65, but he would automatically receive a life sentence if convicted.

The Egyptian-born cab driver who lived with his family just north of Dallas, Texas , allegedly shot to death his daughters, 17-year-old Sarah and 18-year-old Amina, in his taxi after telling them they were going out to eat on New Years Day 14 years ago.

'Help, my dad shot me! I'm dying,' Sarah could be heard in a 911 call she managed to make after she was shot. Investigators said Amina was killed instantly.

It is widely speculated Said committed the honor killing - a practice where individuals are murdered for bringing perceived shame on their family - after he discovered Amina had a non-Muslim boyfriend and because he thought they were becoming 'too American.'

Said vanished after the murders and spent six years on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. He was found hiding out in Justin, Texas - barely 30 miles from the scene of the murder - where he had been being harbored by his son, Islam, who, at the time of the killings, was aged 19, and brother Yassein, who was approximately 45. Both relatives were arrested after the capture and are serving sentences in federal prison.

Speaking with The Dallas Morning News after the capture, Said's former wife and the mother of the girls, Patricia Owens, said she thought it was possible her girls had been killed over in an honor killing but that she ultimately did not know the motivation.

'My daughters were loving, caring, smart, loved everybody, would help anybody,' Owens said, 'They were two of the most awesome kids in the world, and they did not deserve what happened to them.'

Yaser Abdel Said, 65, an Egyptian-born cab driver who lived with his family just north of Dallas, Texas, allegedly shot his daughters, 17-year-old Sarah and 18-year-old Amina, to death in his taxi after telling them they were going out to eat on New Years Day 14 years ago.

Said vanished after his daughters' bodies were found, and made it onto the FBI Most Wanted Fugitives list in the following years Police received Sarah's frantic 911 call at about 7:30pm on that New Years Day. Though she accused her father in the call, she seemed to lose consciousness before dispatchers could determine her location or any other information.

Shortly after the call, the cops received another call from a man reporting two women unconscious in a car in the parking lot of the Omni Mandalay Hotel in Irving, Texas.

There, police found the girls dead inside their father's taxi with multiple gunshot wounds each.

Said immediately became the prime suspect, and when authorities raided the family's home the next day he was nowhere to be found.

The day before the shooting, Said had convinced his daughters and wife to return home after they had run away around Christmas that winter.

The women had all fled from Said after he allegedly threatened to shoot Amina in the head when he found out about her boyfriend. Sarah reportedly told a friend her father had gone as far as to hold a gun to her Amina's head while he threatened her.

Owen's sister, Connie Moggio, corroborated the abuse after the shooting, and said she didn't know why her sister and nieces returned to Said.

'What prompted her to go back home is beyond me,' said Moggio.

Said's abuse of his family extended back as far as 1998, when Owens and the girls signed an affidavit alleging he had sexually abused his daughters. Those charges were later dropped after the girls recanted their story because they said they didn't want to be forced to relocate.

In the years following those allegations, friends of the girls reported they often saw them wit bruises on their bodies or witnessed Said being physically violent to his family.

The girls reportedly confided in friends that their father was obsessively controlling, and that they often feared he was surveilling them wherever they went.

In a home video recorded by Said, the girls are filmed in their bedroom while Said can be heard suggestively saying 'Sarah sleeps with her pants? Mmm, very nice,' and 'Wow, look at those eyes. I got my eye on you.'

Owens divorced Said in 2009. She said she feared her ex-husband would turn up and kill her one day.

In 2011, while Said was still at large, Owens told The Dallas Morning News that she thought the killings could have been because of her ex-husband's belief that the girls were shaming the family with their western ways.

'He would say things like, 'They're becoming too American,'' she said.

Six ECWA pastors killed, 27 church members kidnapped this year.

Fulani Muslims and other terrorists in Nigeria have killed six pastors and kidnapped 27 Christians of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in the past seven months, according to an ECWA report.

Among the 27 Christians kidnapped from January to date were six pastors, including one abducted in Kaduna state on Monday (July 25), Pastor Moses Dikko Usman.

James Saleh, a coordinator of ECWA’s Evangelical Missionary Society (EMS), reported that among the six pastors slain was the Rev. Ezra Shamaki, an ECWA missionary killed on June 21 in the Kurmin Musa area of Kaduna state.

“Ask God to comfort the family of the late Rev. Ezra Shamaki, our missionary serving in Kurmin Musa DCC, who was shot dead by terrorists,” Saleh said. “The terrorists kidnapped his wife, and they are yet to make any contact.”

Mac Philips, another EMS coordinator, said that 15 other women and five men were also abducted in the June 21 attack.

“At about 7 a.m., one of our missionaries was leading a prayer meeting when herdsmen stormed the village, killing and destroying anything in sight,” Philips said. “The armed terrorists stormed the prayer house, met them praying and opened fire on the missionary.”

Though Shamaki was dead, one of the herdsmen shot him again with an AK-47 assault rifle, he said.
“The herdsmen then abducted all the women in the church, and many other men and women in the community, and left,” he said. “Continue to pray for God’s protection upon our missionaries who are constantly in the line of fire, yet they have remained courageous to continue serving Him in various mission fields.”

On July 5, terrorists killed the Rev. Adamu Buba in Iburu, Kasuwan Magani, Kaduna state, Philips said. Saleh added that Pastor Buba leaves behind a wife and seven children.

“Paul said in Romans that nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God,” Saleh said. “As long as hell and heaven exist, the gospel must thrive.”

He said Pastor Nehemiah Ezekiel was killed in Unguwan Awallu of Kaduna state’s Kwassam area in an attack on the ECWA station there on April 5.
Philips said pastors Isma Dogari, Bulus Bayi and Yakubu Waziri were also killed for their faith this year.

“To preach the gospel for us is to die, to be safe is to stop preaching the gospel,” Philips told Morning Star News. “It’s a choice we all have to make – for us, we choose the former. The gospel in Nigeria cannot be preached without casualties. Our lives are increasingly on the line, but nothing compares to the excellency of sharing the gospel to a dying world without Christ.”

Northern Nigeria is engulfed in terrorist attacks by Muslim extremists who invade predominantly Christian communities, he said.

“While we mourn every day for these tragedies, we remain resolute with our weapons of love and peace, knowing that the battle before us is a mopped-up operation – because of the resurrection, we have won,” Philips said.

Two ECWA members in Kaduna state were also killed this year, one in Ungwan Busa and another in Ungwan Chiyaya, Saleh said.

Among those kidnapped, he said, were Pastor Ahmadu Maikudi and two other Christians abducted along with him. They were abducted on June 16 in Gidan Isa Giwa, Zaria, Kaduna state. The wife of the Rev. Emmanuel Bako of Kasuwan Magani DCC, Kaduna state, was abducted on July 13. On May 9, gunmen kidnapped the Rev. Matthew Moses in Katsina state, northwest Nigeria, Saleh said.

The Rev. Mamuda Lakwadon, serving in the Indache area of Abaji, Abuja, was wounded during an attack by the armed herdsmen, Saleh added.

“Many of our mission fields across the region are increasingly facing threats of attacks from terrorist herders/bandits and kidnap syndicates who continue to terrorize residents,” he said. “As the security situation in the country continues to deteriorate, our missionaries are increasingly facing grave danger.”

“They adopt a comparable strategy to Boko Haram and ISWAP [Islamic State West Africa Province] and demonstrate a clear intent to target Christians and potent symbols of Christian identity,” the APPG report states.

Christian leaders in Nigeria have said they believe herdsmen attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria’s Middle Belt are inspired by their desire to forcefully take over Christians’ lands and impose Islam as desertification has made it difficult for them to sustain their herds.

Nigeria led the world in Christians killed for their faith last year (Oct. 1, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2021) at 4,650, up from 3,530 the previous year, according to Open Doors’ 2022 World Watch List report. The number of kidnapped Christians was also highest in Nigeria, at more than 2,500, up from 990 the previous year, according to the WWL report.

Nigeria trailed only China in the number of churches attacked, with 470 cases, according to the report.
In the 2022 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian, Nigeria jumped to seventh place, its highest ranking ever, from No. 9 the previous year.

The US government-funded news organization Radio Farda reported in 2019 that Iranian animal rights activists protested against the Tehran municipal authorities for their abuse and killing of stray dogs.

Radio Farda reported at the time that a video showed the “gruesome killings of stray dogs, including puppies, with injections that made them whine and cry in pain before dying. Activists said they believed the dogs had been put down with acid injections.”

Crackdown on dog ownership

Dr. Shemirani told BBC that the authorities built a “prison” for the dogs, adding "We heard loads of horror stories from that place.”

An Afghan national has been arrested by French authorities after attacking several passers-by on the streets of Le Mans on Wednesday, leaving two injured.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at around 2 p.m. local time, when the assailant, believed to be in his thirties, accosted several pedestrians near to Pont du Greffier.

According to French newspaper Le Figaro , the alleged attacker is originally from Afghanistan and obtained the bladed weapon from a nearby supermarket on Avenue de la Liberation minutes before the attack.

An eyewitness reported that a man with a black beard entered the Super U store and was screaming incomprehensibly. “He was scary, everyone was taken aback, stressed. An employee allegedly asked him to calm down before the main complied and went to the kitchen utensil section,” a customer told reporters.

Authorities arrived quickly on the scene after the attack and arrested the individual, “who did not have all his wits about him,” according to police.

He was transported to the hospital and held under police guard. It is thought that a police officer also sustained non life-threatening injuries in the arrest.

In a press release, public prosecutor Delphine Dewailly explained the man had “attacked passers-by by stabbing them while repeatedly uttering words in Arabic. ”

It all took place at the beginning of the afternoon near the Pont du Greffier, also called Pont de Fer, in Le Mans.

“Of a foreign nationality” and “recently settled in Le Mans,” the Afghan migrant was in possession of “a valid residence permit,” according to the prosecution.

The two victims, whose injuries are not thought to be life-threatening, were transported to a Le Mans hospital.

The suspect is undergoing a psychiatric examination and will face charges of attempted murder.

An honor-based family murder in a small town in the Fars province of Iran has once again sparked debates on the lack of laws to prevent “honor-killing” in Iran.

On June 27, the father of Ariana Lashkari shot the sixteen-year-old girl in the chest with a hunting rifle for allegedly laughing with a boy at a park, which he considered a disgrace to the family.

A relative of the young girl revealed that Ariana wanted to live without restrictions and fled to her paternal grandmother’s home after a heated argument with her father.

Mohammad-Kazem Lashkari confessed that after their dispute, his daughter left the house and went to his mother’s abode. He then went there with his shotgun to scare her and shot her in a moment of uncontrolled rage. He contended that it was not his intention to kill his daughter.

Murders committed by fathers and paternal grandfathers in Iran are not punishable with retributive justice or “Qisas” under the Islamic Penal Code, as Iranian law considers him the “owner” of the victim’s blood. Perpetrators may only be sentenced to three to ten years in prison and pay blood money to the next of kin if demanded. The murders are also subject to the mother’s forgiveness, dismissing the punishment and foregoing the blood money.

Rooted in the patriarchal culture, the number of honor killings is increasing, according to recent reports.

Early this year,

the 17-year-old victim of child marriage, having married a paternal cousin at 12 and delivering a baby at 14, was beheaded by her husband and brother-in-law. Mona Heydari fled to Turkey due to her husband’s violence, but her father helped her husband to bring her back. She was brutally beheaded in an honor killing, and her husband paraded on the street displaying her severed head.

A bill to protect women against domestic violence and other gender-based violence, especially by male relatives, was filed in 2021 but was shelved by the domination of hardliners in the parliament.

There has been a series of so-called honor killings involving young women in Iran in the last two years, and one of the most prominent cases was the death of the 14-year-old Romina Ashfari. Her father beheaded her with a sickle because she intended to elope with an older lover.

Honor killings are common in some cities in Iran and have become more prevalent since the pandemic outbreak. It has been reported that 20 percent of all murders and 50 percent of family murders in East Azerbaijan alone are related to sexual and honor issues. According to the head of Reyhaneh Women’s NGO, about 60 women have been victims of honor killings in Iran over the last two years, including as young as ten.

People have been calling for comprehensive legislation to prosecute the abusers and provide legal action to victims of violence against women, especially against young daughters and wives in child marriage.

Relatives of Nazanin Bahrami say the Iranian actress has been arrested by undercover police in central Tehran.

Bahrami was one of some 800 women to recently sign a statement denouncing the “systematic” sexual harassment and violence against women in the Iranian film industry and had called for a mechanism to ensure those responsible were dealt with.

Her relatives said Bahrami was returning home in the capital from work when she was surrounded by plainclothes police and taken into custody.

Her whereabouts are not known and officials have not commented on the situation.

In recent months, pressure has been building on Iranian authorities over women's rights.

In response, Iran's notorious Guidance Patrols, or morality police, have become increasingly active and violent, with videos emerging on social media appearing to show officers detaining women, forcing them into vans, and whisking them away for various infractions such as failing to wear a hijab while in public.
