Joyful365: Please I need investment advice.
I'm kinda stuck investing my USD funds with my bank in like a fixed deposit at 6% with very heavy penalty (80%) if terminated prematurely.
Please I need better alternative as I don't know any and how to go about it. This is my life saving so I'm kinda cautious so I don't lose it. The failure of Heritage bank and the abysmal NDIC coverage is making me have second thoughts about holding my investment in any Nigerian bank.
Is the amount I have too small to invest directly in USD denominated bonds?
If no, please how can I get started?
Please help copy other knowledgeable people here to guide me.
Cc: skydiver01 bfn1 emmasoft There are a number of credible firms offering different investment packages & services - mutual funds, bond instruments, t-bills, equity, etc. And yes, the amount you have in savings is adequate to create a decent portfolio of diversified investments. From less to highly risky ones, depending on your risk appetite as an investor. Perhaps, if you can be more specific as to what your preferences are, then it would be easier to make more recommendations. |

Thanks for sharing! Taal17: Congrats to everyone who has gone through interview process.
Lots to do and think about right now. Air tickets USA is really large, treat every state like a country. One person's experience in Minnesota is different from another's experience in Alabama. I know it's expensive but do try to get flights as close to your final destination as possible. It might be tempting to do some journeys by coach(luxurious bus) but if you have a lot of luggage then it's not a good option. Coach station maybe a long distance from airport.
Soft landing It's okay to do soft landing..arrive in the US and stay for 2/3 months and come back. It might give you time to regroup, understand what you will face and how better to prepare for your new country. Just make sure you return within 6 months.
Transcripts and Certificates Please take your original academic certificates with you. Reach out to your universities to get your student copy of your transcript. There are jobs that will require you to have your foreign certificates evaluated.Although they may need your institution to send it directly to them, they will also require your original certificates so bring them with you.
No academic records? No problem No worries, USA is a country of certification. Lots of jobs require us based certification to qualify so you have plenty opportunities to learn something new and earn income. Take advantage of learning opportunities around you. USA has a lot of job specialisation..what one person would do in Nigeria is split into what 5 people would do abroad.
Living with your host Lowe your expectations, it's a different country a different culture. Paying all bills on a monthly basis put pressure on people no matter how much you think you know them. Be grateful for whatever they offer and quickly find ways to sustain yourself and contribute to household chores and expenses even if it's a little,. Always contribute regularly. If all you can afford is the type of bread the family eats then make sure that's what you buy regularly. Lastly SSN and Credit cards Don't get carried away by credit cards, research online how to use them to you financial benefit. Don't just listen to what people tell you about using CC Guard your SSN, it's not uncommon that even some hosts will use your SSN to claim tax returns, sell to those will use same to give those who can't work those details to find work, or use them to apply for CC with your details. Asides from opening an bank account I don't think there's anyone else who needs your SSN. When in doubt ask whoever it why they need it and if you're not satisfied just go online and see what you get.
Shine your eye..there are many scammers in the US. text scams , phone call scams etc
All the best in your new life |

The man should immediately get a police report, ensuring that he obtains the statements of the NIS officials and other airport personnel on duty as witnesses.
With the a police report & affidavit, he would have taken a big step into the process of replacing his passport and possibly, any visa therein. |

This is a very helpful guide. Exhausted03: One thing I will tell everyone who is about to attend their interview is that Those guys outside the embassy want to dupe you. Do not be fooled, they charge outrageous amounts eg ₦20,000 for printouts (proof of payment printout) and will say certain documents which are not required are required just so you'll pay. Don't listen to them.
Bring every document/ printout required.
Lists Of Documents To Bring For F4 Interview Are In The Attachment Below
For Entry Into The First Embassy Building:
(1)Staple 2×2 inches passport photo of each applicant on their respective printed colored DS260. (2) After this, fix each applicant's DS260 into their international passport. Hold printed Appointment letter
Inside The Building:
(3) Provide the printed Appointment letter when asked (4) If you are with phones, watches or sealed envelopes, ask an officer to direct you to where to keep them (as at July, I was asked to pay ₦500 to the person in charge of the safes where belongings are kept)
After this you will be directed out to another building. This is where the interview will take place after you have provided requested documents for each applicant and your petitioner.
The following documents will be requested: (i) Birth certificate of the petitioner (ii) Birth certificates of each applicant (iii) One 2×2 inch passport photo of each applicant (iv) International passport of each applicant (v) Pictures that indicate relationship between the applicant and petitioner. (This could be printed screenshots of chats over the years, money transfer receipts or pictures of the petitioner and applicant together. If you choose to provide pictures, if possible, come with printed pictures of the petitioner and applicant together at different ages (as children, young adults & at older age). You don't need to photocopy these pictures like the guys at the gate will have you believe. The pictures will be given back to you once your interview ends.) (vi) Filled Contact Sheet (hand filled contact sheet is accepted) (vii) Petitioner's tax return printout. (viii) Marriage certificate if applicable (ix) Death certificate if applicable (x) Police Certificate (xi) Affidavit of support (form I-864)
Note: 1. Birth Certificate of each applicant must be issued by National population commission. If born before 1992, Birth attestation issued by National population commission will be requested. Petitioner's birth certificate/attestation will be requested. (On this,if your petitioner can't send their birth certificate over, I advice getting one from the National population commission prior to your interview. NPC will ask you to go to Federal or State high court (it must not be magistrate court or the likes) and swear an affidavit. Go with a picture of the person and money [₦500 in Niger State, things are cheap here so go with more]. This same process applies to get a birth certificate or attestation of any of the applicants and the petitioner. Even if they are not present as long as the person swearing is a direct blood relative it will be accepted)
2. I saw people being sent back because they didn't provide enough evidence of relationship, (eg only pictures of d petitioner and applicant as adults). Provide enough evidence of relationship or your case could be postponed untill you provide them
3.I saw people who lied, were caught, and denied visa because of it. Records are kept. A woman stated a different age to the one she claimed when she was trying to get a non immigrant visa. Because of this she was denied. A man lied about applying for a non immigrant visa 8 years ago, he was caught, I don't know if he was denied. The point is, Do not lie. If you or your petitioner have previously stated a lie to the embassy either immigrant or non immigrant (though I discourage) stick to it and make it tally in all your documents.
During Your Interview: Be honest, if you have provided everything you're asked for you will probably be approved.
*IOM usually sends medical results to the Embassy, but you can still bring the slips of each applicant you are given. If you bring the sealed envelope, you won't enter with it.
*A lot of the documents and photocopies I was asked to bring in my interview letter (eg Petitioner's Naturalization certificate) we're not asked for. However it is best to come prepared. Follow the instructions in your interview letter.
Incase Print both proofs of payments from CEAC website
Do Not Print Anything From The Boys/Men At The Park They Over Charge And Make People Print And Photocopy Documents They Won't Use. If You Do, You Could Print 1 page which normally costs ₦100 for ₦20,000 |

DAramis: Bro how did you go about the subscription? which bank?
I am having issues with Stanbic over this... Talking about the bond subscription. And what is the maximum estimation of years someone can subscribe to?
Lastly can you give me an idea of the interest to receive for example 100 thousand naira worth of subscription? It's the FGN Savings Bonds (FGNSB). Issued in the 1st full week of every month. Tenors are 2 years and 3 years with interest payable quarterly (every 3 months) until maturity. Currently, Stanbic has an online portal through which you can submit your applications. Do you have a CSCS account? Details will be needed. We can continue our conversation on the investment thread. |

SoNature: I don't think this will make much impact. There's already a punishment for bypassing one's metre. I think every state should have at least 3 - 10 discos. These discos will closely monitor the areas they supply power to and how much they make in return.
Nigerians are stealing so much power. That's why discos aren't making any profits and are owing banks almost a trillion naira despite FG support, while Gencos are owing gas companies billions of dollars. I agree with you on the bolded, which is why I advocate for more IPPs to saturate the industry. Unfortunately, the DisCos argue that their Regional Offices (ROs) and Business Units (BUs) are set up to cover their regions well, but we all know the depth of corruption in those places. If there are more DisCos in a State as you have suggested, monitoring of energy consumption will be easier and ATC&C losses will be massively curtailed which will invariably result in lower tariffs that customers will be required to pay for energy. |

Yemoskii: Why do I have to fund my Stanbic IBTC MMF account through another bank I.e. UBA and not Stanbic IBTC Bank. I am confused pls I need explanation. Stanbic IBTC MMF is an investment scheme of the Stanbic IBTC Asset Management Ltd (not Stanbic IBTC Bank). In the operation of MMFs, Fund Managers are mandated to appoint Trustees and Custodians that are 3rd-party independent entities to safeguard investors' funds. So, do not worry if you're paying into another account different from Stanbic IBTC Bank, it is definitely the account of the appointed Custodian for the Fund. Just ensure that whatever collection account you're funding through is what the Fund Manager has specifically indicated to you. |
