The officer is obviously trying to rip you off.

Can you get a friend in Imo to send to the centre? Just give your enrolment number to the person & ask him/her to physically go to the centre to enquire if your passport is ready or not.

Make sure that dubious officer is not aware of your action.

Please I need help. I did capturing and necessary payments, things in September 2021. Up till now they haven't called me. The officer on charge now is requesting additional 20k. He said the controller general said everyone must pay extra 20k.

I am now in Lagos and can't travel back to IMO STATE NOR PAY ANY EXTRA 20K.

My question: should I go ahead to process fresh application here in Lagos state or is there a way of transferring from IMO to LAGOS?

After capturing, you should have been given a slip containing your enrolment number.
With the enrolment number, you can always check if your passport is ready or not.

Changing of name with NIMC is on the spot.

The change of name is done on the spot with biometrics data capturing.
A slip containing tracking details will then be issued to you to follow-up on when the change will be effected (presumably by the NIMC HQ, Abuja).
It, however, usually takes a couple of days to weeks for the NIMC HQ to validate the name change, before you can print out a new NIN slip.

Change the name on your NIN (Cost: N500+charges via REMITA).
Afterwards, you can continue supporting other documents bearing 'Temitope' with an affidavit stating that any document bearing either 'Temi' or 'Temitope' should be regarded as same.
I must confess, however, that changing your name at NIMC can take between 2-3 weeks which can be very frustrating.

We almost had the ticket in hands and then, we lost it. Painful.

For renewal, you can submit 6 months before expiration date.

According to cameroncucumber, his/her cousin did capturing on 10-Jan-2022 and collected it on 23-Feb-2022 at the Ibadan centre.

Yes, it does.
ASUU means Academic Staff Union of Universities. It is the body that controls all university academic staff in Nigeria - whether post or under-graduate programmes.

The options opened to you are:
1. Apply for your passport renewal. Submit your application and you may be fortunate to have the inspecting officer overlook the order in which your first & middle names are arranged on the NIN.
It's a gamble though & chance is 50-50.

2. You can apply to the NIN office in your locality for name modification. It only costs N500 (payable via Remita) with a copy of your affidavit (Take the original copy along for sighting).
It takes about 1 week for the correction to be effected by NIMC.

After, you can attach the corrected NIN slip to your passport renewal application.

I have it already. I was told that to arrange names on a passport renewal , it will cost like #150k thereabout , then i will have to be present in Abuja(FCT) for capturing.. This is big time punishment.
In a state like Lagos that has about 3 passport offices , could have been empowered with such powers to make corrections. Everything doesn't have to be in FCT.

Suppose the name arrangements on your NIN details does not correspond with the one on your international passport, will you be able to renew based on the name arrangements on the existing passport OR they'd want you to renew based on your name arrangements on your NIN doc.?! Eg. NIN : AWOYINKA Segun Daniel ; PASSPORT(expired) AWOYINKA Daniel Segun. Will there be any issue while trying to renew ?!

I'm sure from your experience, you would have wished you did some things earlier (either in Nigeria or US) that would have helped you to hit the ground running when you got to the US?

I'm at the tail end of my F4 application and my PD will fall due anytime soon.

(1) I have a fiancee that I'll want to join me after I get there (I cannot apply for her right now because of some cogent reasons/limitations).

(2) I don't want to be a burden to my host & the earlier I can find my way around, the better.

Expecting your reply. Any other experienced person can help with advice too.

I'm very open to learning. I'll also appreciate any reference to a thread where such had been previously discussed.

In Nigeria there only two marriage acts.
1: Customary marriage often called traditional marriage.
What constitutes this type of marriage (a) Bride price must be paid in full, and the bride will be handed over to the groom or any of his family member. Any other celebration or gifts are not taken into account, if you like buy an estate for your in-laws.
(b) Parents consent is required.
(c) It can be conducted any time within 24 hours of a day, it's open to polygamy

Statutory marriage often called court wedding.
(a) Parents consent is not required.
(b) Bride price is not required.
(c) It must be conducted before official office closing hour, and within 90 days after filling papers and full stamped documents, marriage vows should conducted by a registered marriage registrar, who must be a legal personel.
Any of the two is legal and binding before God and Man.,
(d) It does not allow polygamy
Remember any church or places that perform statutory marriage without been licensed makes the marriage void, ask your clergy whether your church is permitted and licensed to perform statutory marriage, for example after having gone to a marriage registrar and obtain necessary papers, you go to your pastor to administer the marriage vows, if the church place is not registered to perform such, you marriage is invalid.
