PRESS RELEASE: COAS FLAGS OFF EXERCISE CROCODILE SMILE 111 IN CALABAR In consonance with his vision which is - "To have a professionally responsive Nigerian Army in the discharge of its constitutional roles", the Chief of Army Staff(COAS) Nigerian Army (NA), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai has flaged off a Command Post and Field Training Exercise code named Exercise CROCODILE SMILE 111 in 13 Brigade Area of Operational Responsibility - (Calabar, Cross River State). The flag off ceremony was conducted at Ikang Forward Operation Base, Ikang, Bakassi Local Local Area of Cross Rivers State by His Excellency, the Governor of Cross Rivers State, Senator Professor Ben Ayade who was the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion. In his remarks to flag off the exercise on the 23rd of October 2018, Senator Ben Ayade commended the professional disposition, commitment and forsight of the COAS especially on his choice of Bakassi general area as a launching pad for this important and timely exercise. Governor Ayade posited that "the choice of Bakassi is good and thoughtful as there is massive movement of arms and ammunition as well as criminal activities such as sea piracy, kidnapping armed robbery going on in this axis. All these are connected to the activities of Cameroonian Ambazonian separatists which resulted in the proliferation of arms and crimes. I hope, this exercise, will effectively address these fundamental security challenges" he said. He urged royal fathers in the state to cooperate with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to ensure the success of the exercise which will last till the 22nd of November 2018.. According to him "I understand there are other aspects of the exercise that are intended to achieve excellent Civil-Military Cooperation. I wish to commend the NA for imbuing this exercise with projects that will profoundly impact on the people. I, therefore, urge the royal fathers to cooperate with NA as they are sincere in what they are here for", he added. Earlier in a keynote address delivered by the representative of the COAS, - the General Officer Commanding 82 Division NA, Major General Emmanuel Kabuk, stated that the exercise is a training period for the officers and soldiers of 13 Brigade. According to him - "The exercise is primarily a 13 Brigade Command Post and Field Training exercises which will provide an opportunity for officers and soldiers of the Brigade as well as supporting elements from headquarters 82 Division to once again demonstrate their proficiency in the conduct of Internal Security Operations". General Kabuk further stated that Exercise CROCODILE SMILE 111 will be land and maritime based. "The land operations will include mobile patrols, snap checkpoints, raids, road blocks, cordon and search and other operations that can enhance the achievement of the exercise objectives, while the maritime operations will address the security threats within the creeks of Cross Rivers State" he said. He explained the objectives of the exercise to include training opportunities, ensuring peace and security in the state. According to the COAS - "The objectives of Exercise CROCODILE SMILE 111 are to ensure peace and security in Cross Rivers State and the general Area of Responsibility covered by 13 Brigade. It is also to create a conducive environment for the 2019 General Elections". "To this end, the conclusion of this exercise will kick-start Exercise PYTHON DANCE/EGWU EKE 111 which will be conducted by all formations and units of the NA across the nation in preparation for the 2019 General Elections", he added. All the Brigade Commanders in 82 Division Area of Responsibility, Service Commanders and Heads of Security Agencies in Cross Rivers State as well as Head of Bakassi Local Council Administration Mr Ekpenyong Esuabana and the Clan Head of Ikang Clan of Bakassi, his royal highness Etinyin - Effiong Kenneth Effiong were among the major dignitaries that attended the event. PRESS RELEASE NIGERIAN, CAMEROONIAN ARMIES SEEK COLLABORATION 1. The Nigerian and Cameroonian armies have agreed to collaborate and synergise with each other towards conducting sustained joint military operations to end insurgency within the fringes of their common borders in Borno State, North East of Nigeria. 2. The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Brigadier General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, made this known on Wednesday 24 October 2018 when he paid an operational visit to a border location in Wulgo Borno State, where Cameroon Defence Forces (CDF) Battalion is being deployed. 3. He stated that, he was on a routine operational visit to the Division's units sharing common flank with the CDF Battalion and charged the troops to be more decisive and not to relent in denying Boko Haram Terrorists any freedom of action as the dry season approaches. 4. He enjoined the CDF troops to continue to collaborate and work assiduously with their Nigerian counterparts towards engaging and neutralising Boko Haram Terrorists as well as other criminals in order to enhance the security of lives and property including restoration of lasting peace within their common borders. 5. He conveyed the appreciation of the Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, to the Cameroonian Defence Forces and commended the excellent cordial relationship existing among the two forces particularly those stationed at Wulgo in Gamboru Ngala Local Government Area Borno State. 6. He also applauded the CDF for their professional dexterity and fighting prowess demonstrated during operations jointly conducted with Nigerian troops to deal with the common enemy. 7. He urged them not to relent in working jointly to achieve their common goal and expressed gratitude for the reception accorded him and his entourage. 8. Earlier, the CDF Battalion Commander Robert Bokwe thanked the GOC for the visit and conveyed appreciation of the Brigade Commander Brigadier General Bouba, whom he said referred to the Acting GOC as a strong friend and brother. 9. He expressed delight at the cordial relationship existing among the two armies and reeled out several joint military offensive clearance operations particularly Operation DEEP PUNCH 2 and ALMINI FACAT undertaken by both armies to rout Boko Haram Terrorists from Sambisa and the Lake Chad region that were highly successful. 10. Commander Roberts reassured of CDF cooperation and support to Nigerian Army during military offensive operations planned towards ending the menace of Boko Haram. 11. Highlights of the visit include operational brief, address to CDF troops, among others. 12. The Acting GOC was accompanied during the visit by the Commander 22 Brigade Brigadier General John Ochai, Customs Area Comptroller of Borno/Yobe Command, Mr Abdullahi Aliyu Biu and some Principal Staff Officers of 7 Division. 13. PRESS RELEASE ARMY APPLAUDS TROOPS" OF FOB LOGOMANI 1. Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed at the Forward Operational Base (FOB) Logomani in Ngala Local Government of Borno State, have been applauded for successfully repelling an attack on their location by members of the Boko Haram Terrorists. 2. The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Brigadier General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, made the commendation on Thursday 25 October 2018 while addressing the troops. 3. He commended them for their bravery and commitment in fighting insurgency within the Division's Area of Responsibility. 4. He also advised them to always maintain high standard of alertness, remain firm and be decisive. 5. He urged the troops to intensify clearance and confidence building patrols in order to dominate their general area of operation to deny Boko Haram any freedom of action. 6. Consequently, he boosted the troops morale with presentation of enhanced sustenance and other combat items that will serve as force multiplier and assured them of the COAS commitment to their sustenance and welfare. 7. Receiving the items, the Commander 22 Brigade, thanked the Acting GOC for his concern for the troops. 8. PRESS RELEASE TROOPS NEUTRALISE BANDITS ARREST KIDNAPPER AND RECOVER ARMS 1. The troops on Operation WHIRL PUNCH underv1 Division Nigerian Army are steadily making substantial progress in their efforts to rid the society of bandits and kidnappers in Birnin Gwari general area and along Kaduna - Abuja road. During the recent clearance operations and routine patrols, they raided suspected kidnappers' hideouts at Kidandan, along Dogon Dawa road, Unguwan Bilya, Sofa and Unguwan Nakuli on Monday 10th September 2018. During the encounter with the bandits, six suspected kidnappers were neutralized. 2. Likewise in conjunction with the local vigilante'groups, some identified escape routes used by bandits and kidnappers along Kuriga and Gayam general area as well as Maganda, Chiki de Parlour and Farin Ruwa, all located in Chikun LGA in Kaduna State were blocked and many were ambushed. 3. Similarly, another huge success was recorded when troops cleared Kidan Isa, Gidan Haruna Mobale and Kuduru, where Four bandits were neutralised and some escaped with gun shots. The following items were recovered: An AK-47 rifle magazine, 16 rounds of 7.62mm (Special) ammunition, one Dane Gun, a locally made Pistol, 2 mobile telephone handsets and arrested one kidnapper called Musa, who recently kidnapped Alhaji Ahmadu and two other persons from Kano. The suspect is currently being interrogated 4. The clearance Operation continued along Gwaska-Doka area, where troops encountered bandits, who fled from Dogon Dawa and Kamuku forests. During the pursuit, bandits abandoned Four motorcycles and some valuable items which were subsequently recovered. 5. The operation WHIRL PUNCH will continue to exact enormous pressure on the criminals hibernating in these suspected hideouts, untill they are either completely cleared or abandoned the areas. PRESS RELEASE GOC APPLAUDS TROOPS’ READINESS IN DELWA 1. Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed in Delwa Borno State, have been applauded for their state of combat readiness in the fight against terrorism. 2. The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Brigadier General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, gave the commendation on Monday 27th August 2018 during his routine operational visit to Echo Company of 192 Battalion location stationed in Delwa, Konduga Local Government Area of the State. 3. He applauded the unit combat preparedness after inspecting the Company's location and urged the troops to make effective use of the arsenal at their disposal to inflict maximum causality on the insurgents. 4. He also urged the troops to be mutually supportive and compliment each other's effort while trying to achieve their collective goal. 5. OVERVIEW ON ARC-GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEM COURE HELD AT THE DEFENCE INTELLIGENCE COLLEGE FROM 16 – 27 JULY 2018 INTRODUCTION 1. The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Gabriel Abayomi Olonisakin, Nigerian Army Medal graciously approved the conduct of ARC-Geographic Information System Course for the Armed Forces of Nigeria Intelligence from 16 to 27 July 2018. 2. The course which was facilitated by the France Defense Attaché to Nigeria and was organized by the Defence Headquarters in conjunction with the French Military took place here in Defence Intelligence College which is an ideal environment for learning. 3. The 2-week intensive training course was in the area of geo-analysis and geo-statistics and was specifically designed for 10 train–the–trainers from the Intelligence Specialty. The participants that attended the course included 3 Nigerian Army officers, 3 Nigerian Navy officers, 2 Nigerian Air Force officers and one civilian staff from the Defence Headquarters. 4. The capacity build training for these officers on the use of ARCGIS software and tools is a laudable initiative which is in line with the Vision of the Chief of Defence Staff ‘‘to ensure a well-motivated, trained and equipped Armed Forces that is responsive to national security commitments.’’ This brief therefore is to intimate us on some key aspect of the course. OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE 5. ArcGIS is the core server of Geographic Information System application software for creating and using maps to compile geographic data, analyze mapped information as well as discovering, managing and sharing of geographic information in a database. 6. Arc-Geographic Information System plays important role in tactical military operations, being useful in intelligence gathering, battle field management, terrain analysis, deployment of troops, military installation management and monitoring of possible terrorist activity. Also to note is that Geographic Information System will enable own troop to become versatile by providing geospatial-information for field commanders to visualize the areas of operation in order to take prompt and necessary decisions during combat operations. THE COURSE CONTENT 7. The course which is theory and more of practical comprises of the following packages: a. Introduction to Geographic data. b. Map layer Management. c. Symbology of Qualitative data. d. Symbology of Quantitative data. e. Using Labels and Annotations f. Layout g. Study of Geographical data h. Coordinate Systems and Map projection i. Management of Tables j. Editing of data k. Creating Geo-databases and features classes l. Solving spatial problems through analysis m. Getting of Localizations from tabular data n. and the Final Project. 8. The programme was intensive and well packaged specifically designed for intelligence personnel to broaden their knowledge on the various analytical tools that ARCGIS software provides to aid intelligence gathering for the conduct of military operations. The course was more of practical as the instructors guided the students on the basic rudiments on how to effectively enhance their proficiency on the use of GIS software analytical tools. Consequently, the students were given individual class work and assignment to improve on their proficiency on the GIS analytical tools. In this regard, the students demonstrated satisfactory level of commitment and determination throughout the course which has led to the awards of certificates on Arc-Geographic Information System. CONCLUSION 9. It is imperative to state that the officers demonstrated high level of commitment during the 2-week programme. As the course coordinator, I am confident to state that the officers are now qualified to train the trainees on ARCGIS software. In this regards, I wish to most respectful thank the Commandant, Defence Intelligence College for providing us with a conductive classroom and other necessary facilities towards the successful completion of the course. |

Am a big fan of the jaguar but our jaguars are too old & rusty . They are stored in a state of neglect, bringing them to life does not worth it. I'll rather use the money to get used Mig29s. |

PRESS RELEASE TROOPS NEUTRALISE 16 BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS ... Recover Gun Trucks, Cache of Ammunition Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed in Forward Operational Base (FOB) along Mairari in Monguno have neutralised 16 Boko Haram insurgents in an encounter that occurred at about 6.50 pm on Friday 27 July 2018, in Mairari, a village located in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno state. The insurgents in three vehicles, including Gun trucks had infiltrated and attacked the community, when troops at the FOB were alerted by locals . The troops supported by the Air Task Force swiftly responded to the attack killing 16 insurgents and capturing 2 Gun trucks abandoned by the insurgents, as they tried escaping , having been overwhelmed by the superior fire power from the troops.The gallant troops also recovered 163 Rounds of Anti Aircraft Gun Ammunition during the fierce encounter. During the fire fight, 4 civilians and a soldier unfortunately, sustained varying degrees of injury and have been promptly evacuated to a Military Hospital, where they currently receiving medical attention. The FOB has been further reinforced with additional troops, while fighting patrols are on the trail of the insurgents who fled the attack. Normalcy has been restored and the people of Mongonu Local Government Area are enjoined to remain vigilant and report any suspicious person(s) or activities as they go about their normal business.
