For those knocking the upgrade of the jaguar and mig-21s, I would rather have the jaguar jet dropping payloads on bhts basis in chad,niger and nigeria. Than the Alpha jet dropping only 1000lbs per sortie.

Our leaders are so selfish, that even if angels came down from heaven and told them to re equip, they would find an excuse not to. So we are not going to get any 4fh generation fighters any time soon.

Iran is in the market for top Russian and Chinese fighters, but they are still upgrading there old su-22 bombers, to use in Syria for the time being.
Uncontested air power is our key to winning this war. But our air strikes, gat to be real air strikes, not pin pricks.

Our jaguars are way too old for any upgrades. The way & condition they are been stored are poor.

TROOPS NEUTRALISE 16 BOKO HARAM INSURGENTS ... Recover Gun Trucks, Cache of Ammunition

Troops of Operation Lafiya Dole deployed in Forward Operational Base (FOB) along Mairari in Monguno have neutralised 16 Boko Haram insurgents in an encounter that occurred at about 6.50 pm on Friday 27 July 2018, in Mairari, a village located in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno state.

The insurgents in three vehicles, including Gun trucks had infiltrated and attacked the community, when troops at the FOB were alerted by locals . The troops supported by the Air Task Force swiftly responded to the attack killing 16 insurgents and capturing 2 Gun trucks abandoned by the insurgents, as they tried escaping , having been overwhelmed by the superior fire power from the troops.The gallant troops also recovered 163 Rounds of Anti Aircraft Gun Ammunition during the fierce encounter.

During the fire fight, 4 civilians and a soldier unfortunately, sustained varying degrees of injury and have been promptly evacuated to a Military Hospital, where they currently receiving medical attention.

The FOB has been further reinforced with additional troops, while fighting patrols are on the trail of the insurgents who fled the attack. Normalcy has been restored and the people of Mongonu Local Government Area are enjoined to remain vigilant and report any suspicious person(s) or activities as they go about their normal business.

REPORTS OF DENIAL OF LANDING RIGHTS TO A CHARTERED FLIGHT AT NIGERIAN AIR FORCE BASE MAKURDI

The attention of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has sadly been drawn to allegations that it prevented a chartered flight from landing at its Base in Makurdi on 16 July 2018, for political reasons. There is absolutely no iota of truth in the allegations that NAF’s decision was politically motivated. To start with, the runway at NAF Base Makurdi is not a dual user facility but one constructed strictly for military purpose. Accordingly, in line with global best practices, there is a clearly established procedure for non-NAF aircraft to operate into and out of the runway in Makurdi, and that procedure is well known to all qualified pilots in Nigeria. Indeed, many airlines had in the past adhered to the stipulated procedure and therefore successfully landed and taken off from the NAF runway in Makurdi. The procedure includes a written request to NAF Headquarters Abuja for permission for a specific aircraft to operate into its airfield on a specific date and time, including the names of passengers and other necessary details.

In this case, there was indeed a request for permit by the Benue State Government, dated 16 July 2018, for Aircraft with Registration Number 5N-FCT to land at NAF Base Makurdi on 16 July 2018. Although requests for landing permits are expected to reach NAF Headquarters not later than two days before the desired landing date, the NAF went out of its way to expedite the process and accordingly granted the permit for aircraft with Registration Number 5N-FCT to land at NAF Base Makurdi on 16 July 2018. However, at about 5pm on 16 July 2018, the NAF was verbally informed that there was a need to change the aircraft for which permission had already been issued, reportedly because the aircraft had developed snags. The NAF, therefore, asked for another written request, in line with the established procedure. As at date, the NAF Headquarters is yet to receive a written request for the replacement aircraft with Registration Number 5N-IZY to land at its Base in Makurdi.

For the avoidance of doubts, the NAF does not concern itself with political or religious affiliations of individuals/organizations in granting landing rights at its airfields. The issue of security and safety remains uppermost particularly while noting that the ongoing Operation WHIRL STROKE is largely being coordinated from NAF Base Makurdi, with fighter aircraft flying in and out of the Base. The NAF remains a highly professional and apolitical organization that would rather focus on its military duties. Consequently, the NAF wishes to implore all concerned to desist from dragging the name of the NAF into partisan politics.
