Troops Eliminate Scores of Terrorists, Recover Weapons in Major Offensive Along AKK Pipeline in Niger

Troops of the Nigerian Army have eliminated scores of terrorists and recovered a large cache of weapons, ammunition and communication equipment during coordinated fighting patrols and follow-up exploitation operations along the AKK Pipeline corridor near Kafin Koro in Niger State.

The sources said the operation commenced on May 10 during a fighting patrol towards Sarkin Power axis along the AKK Pipeline route.

According to the sources, troops came in contact with heavily armed terrorists at about 4:30 p.m. and engaged them in a fierce firefight.

“The terrorists were overwhelmed by superior firepower and suffered heavy casualties during the encounter,” the source said.

The sources disclosed that the terrorists initially withdrew from the area but later regrouped and launched a counterattack on the troops’ location.

However, the troops successfully repelled the renewed attack, forcing the terrorists to flee into nearby forests with gunshot wounds.

Military authorities confirmed that one terrorist was neutralised during the initial encounter, while several others were believed to have been killed or wounded during the prolonged exchange of fire.

Items initially recovered from the scene included 246 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, four motorcycles, one Baofeng radio set and two mobile handsets abandoned by the fleeing terrorists.

The sources further disclosed that troops conducted detailed exploitation operations at about 6:30 a.m. on May 11 around the general area and made additional recoveries.

Additional items recovered included one PKM machine gun, one AK-47 rifle, 400 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, 200 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, one motorcycle, another Baofeng radio set and one additional handset.

The sources said there were no casualties among the troops and no equipment was lost during the operations.

According to military authorities, the operations formed part of ongoing offensives aimed at securing critical national infrastructure, particularly the AKK Pipeline corridor, and denying terrorists and bandits freedom of action across vulnerable communities in Niger State.

The military added that troops had remained on maximum alert while clearance, fighting patrols and area domination operations continued within the general area.

Military sources further stated that troops’ morale and fighting efficiency remained high as sustained pressure was being mounted on terrorists and criminal elements operating within the North-Central region.

OPERATION HADIN KAI TROOPS DEFEAT ISWAP ATTEMPT ON GONORI, DECIMATE TERRORISTS IN DEVASTATING AIR-LAND ONSLAUGHT

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have dealt a crushing blow to ISWAP terrorists, decisively defeating a lnight attack on 120 Task Force Battalion Gonori under Sector 2 in the late hours of Saturday, 9 May 2026 up till the early morning of Sunday 10 May 2026. The terrorists, advancing from the Mandunari axis at around midnight were detected early by an ambush team. Troops immediately executed a well-coordinated spoiling attack which caught the terrorists in a devastating killing zone. No part of the camp was breached and no equipment was lost. Platforms from the Air Component of OPHK and the Nigerian Army Aviation earlier scrambled subsequently completed a well synchronised air-land assault that decimated the retreating insurgents and sealed the totality of their defeat.

Exploitation of the general area revealed extensive blood trails, body parts and battle damage consistent with scores of terrorist casualties, in addition to terrorist corpses recovered within the immediate vicinity. Items recovered include one x General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), 2 x PKT, 5 x AK-47 rifles, several belts of assorted ammunition, and other personal effects, further confirming the scale of the failed assault. Wounded soldiers are stable and receiving appropriate medical attention. Exploitation operations are still ongoing within the general area to consolidate gains and track fleeing terrorists. This latest failed attack reinforces the unrelenting operational dominance of OPHK and the futility of terrorist aggression against well-fortified and battle-ready troops across the Theatre.

TROOPS OF OPERATION HADIN KAI CRUSH ISWAP ASSAULT ON BUNI GARI, NEUTRALISE NO FEWER THAN 50 TERRORISTS, RECOVER LARGE CACHE OF ARMS AND AMMUNITION

Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have once again demonstrated overwhelming combat superiority, decisively crushing a large-scale, coordinated attack by ISWAP terrorists on Headquarters 27 Brigade at Buni Gari and the Buni Gari Checkpoint in the early hours of Thursday, 8 May 2026. The assault, launched at approximately 0200 hours under the cover of darkness by a large number of terrorists from multiple axes, was met with devastating firepower, tactical brilliance and resolute determination by troops who held their ground and inflicted catastrophic losses on the attackers. No fewer than 50 terrorists were neutralised, while a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the fleeing remnants.

The terrorists initially launched their assault from the western flank before pushing additional forces from the southern flank along the Ganinga Junction axis and later from the south-western flank in a desperate attempt to encircle own troops. However, troops held their ground with exceptional discipline and tactical composure, employing indirect fires to attrit the enemy while executing an offensive-defensive battle that systematically degraded and dismantled the assault from all axes. The terrorists were met with such devastating resistance that they retreated in confusion, evacuating some of their killed and wounded as evidenced by trails of blood along their escape routes. At no point was any part of the camp breached, as the integrity of the location remained fully intact throughout the engagement. Exploitation of the general area confirmed the recovery of 10 terrorist corpses within the immediate vicinity, while human intelligence reports indicate that over 20 additional bodies were scattered across bushes around Gashua, Azare, and Kamuya along the terrorists' withdrawal routes.

The Air Component Command of OPHK played a decisive and complementary role in the engagement, providing persistent Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) coverage that enabled real-time situational awareness and accurate target acquisition. In a synchronised air–land operation, precision air interdiction strikes were conducted on confirmed terrorist positions and fleeing elements, accounting for an additional 20 terrorists neutralised as aircrafts pursued retreating insurgents along their escape corridors. Subsequent human intelligence confirmed scores of additional dead bodies along the withdrawal routes, further underscoring the magnitude of the defeat inflicted on the terrorists.

Items recovered from the engagement include 8 x AK-47 rifles, 2 x General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMG), 2 x Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, 5 x RPG bombs, 3 x RPG chargers, 2 x boxes of 7.62mm ammunition, 2 x fully loaded magazines, 9 x bandoliers of 7.62mm ammunition, and 3 x Improvised Explosive Device (IED) canisters. The volume and variety of weapons and ordnance recovered further expose the scale of the terrorists' offensive intent and the totality of their failure.

Troops, in conjunction with volunteer forces, are currently conducting aggressive exploitation operations across the general area to consolidate gains, track fleeing terrorists, and deny any attempt at regrouping. Some equipment, including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and Gun-Trucks, sustained minimal damage during the engagement. All wounded personnel are stable and receiving appropriate medical attention.

Regrettably, 2 gallant soldiers paid the supreme price in the course of the engagement. Their sacrifice embodies the highest traditions of service, courage, and unwavering commitment to the defence of the nation. Operation HADIN KAI honours their heroism and the bravery of all personnel who stood firm in the face of a determined but ultimately futile enemy assault. These failed attacks further underscore the growing desperation of terrorist elements who continue to suffer devastating losses under sustained operational pressure. OPHK remains resolute and battle-ready, maintaining operational dominance across the Theatre and ensuring that terrorists are denied freedom of action in any part of the North East region.

The event, themed “Building Troops’ Resilience through Counter Terrorism Campaigns,” featured presentations by seasoned resource persons and retired generals. Discussions centred on emerging threats, contemporary warfare dynamics and the need to build resilient, highly skilled forces capable of operating effectively in complex combat environments.

The COAS charged troops to remain resilient, cohesive and combat-ready in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities. He emphasised that while modern equipment remains essential, success in today’s battlespace depends largely on well-trained, disciplined and adaptive personnel.

Lieutenant General Shaibu further highlighted the integration of drone warfare, combat aviation and advanced training methodologies as critical force multipliers for future operations, noting that the Nigerian Army will continue to leverage technology to enhance operational effectiveness.

In his remarks, the Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, commended the COAS for his purposeful leadership, which he noted has significantly improved troop welfare and strengthened operational efficiency across the Nigerian Army.

The training week featured the demonstration of live firepower of the Combat arms of the Nigerian Army featuring various calibres of weapons, armoured vehicles, and advanced combat platforms, as well as a combined Infantry and Armour manoeuvre simulation in a realistic combat environment. The event also featured a symbolic Pulling Out Ceremony in honour of distinguished retired Infantry generals.

PRESS RELEASE

NAF STRIKES TERRORISTS, RAZES ABASU AIKI HIDEOUT IN KATSINA

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), through the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 2, has delivered a decisive blow to terrorist elements in the North-West, destroying a notorious hideout linked to kingpin Abasu Aiki during a precision air strike in Katsina State. The operation, conducted on 1 May 2026, targeted a terrorist enclave within the Dan-Aji Forest in Faskari Local Government Area, following sustained and credible intelligence reports indicating renewed terrorist activity in the area.

Further intelligence confirmed that the location served as a logistics hub and transit point for fighters loyal to Abasu Aiki, who have been implicated in repeated attacks on communities and security forces across the Faskari, Kankara, and Funtua axis of Katsina State. Acting on this intelligence, NAF air assets identified armed terrorists on motorcycles alongside other fighters within the enclave and executed a swift and coordinated strike on both the terrorists and their support structures.

Battle Damage Assessment confirmed that several terrorists were neutralised, while the logistics hub and associated structures were destroyed, triggering explosions and widespread fires. The successful operation significantly disrupts terrorist movement and resupply within the area and underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s sustained resolve to deny terrorists safe havens, dismantle their operational networks, and support ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the region.

NAF INTENSIFIES AIR ONSLAUGHT, PUMMELS AND NEUTRALISES TERRORISTS IN SAMBISA AND TUMBUNS HIDEOUTS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), under the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI, has intensified the tempo of its air campaign in the North-East, unleashing sustained and aggressive precision strikes that are systematically dismantling terrorist networks across Sambisa and the Tumbuns. Acting on credible intelligence, NAF aircraft struck decisively at insurgent enclaves, obliterating hideouts, crippling logistics hubs, and neutralising scores of fighters in relentless, coordinated attack runs. On 30 April 2026, air assets executed a high-impact Air Interdiction mission at Alafa in the Sambisa axis, where confirmed terrorist infrastructure and supply nodes were swiftly engaged and destroyed in successive strikes.

Sustaining the momentum, NAF forces followed up on 1 May 2026 with another decisive assault on terrorist positions at Metele in the Tumbuns. Intelligence and surveillance exposed a fortified island stronghold with entrenched fighters, storage facilities, and defensive trench systems. With scores of insurgents confirmed within the target area, NAF aircraft delivered precise and overwhelming firepower, striking and decimating the location. The sustained intensity of these operations reflects a deliberate strategy of continuous pressure, denying terrorists any space to regroup or operate.

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, commended the professionalism and combat effectiveness of NAF personnel. He reaffirmed the Service’s unyielding resolve to dominate the battlespace, stressing that operations will persist with increased intensity until all terrorist capabilities are dismantled and threats to national security fully neutralised.

NASI COMMANDANT CHARGES NEWLY GRADUATED SPECIAL WARFARE OPERATIVES TO UPHOLD DISCIPLINE AND COURAGE FOR OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE…Inaugurates Airborne Trainees

In line with its core mandate as the Nigerian Army’s premier institution for infantry training, the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI) on Thursday, 30 April 2026, graduated students of Special Warfare Instructors Course 18 (Rangers) and Special Warfare Course 73 (Trackers). The event was held at Mock Village Camp Buratai, Jaji Military Cantonment, further reinforcing NASI’s role in producing highly skilled, combat-ready personnel for deployment across diverse theatres of operation nationwide.

In his remarks, the Commandant NASI, Major General Frank Sunday Etim, emphasized that the training package was deliberately designed to expose students to evolving global security threats, practical combat applications and the complexities of modern warfare within a dynamic operational environment. He charged the graduands to effectively deploy the competencies acquired in addressing operational challenges with unwavering bravery, discipline, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

Major General Etim commended the Chief Instructor, Special Warfare Wing (SWW), Colonel Mohammed Marwa, alongside his instructional staff, for their resilience, dedication, and exceptional training standards. He congratulated the graduands on the successful completion of their courses and urged them to remain steadfast in upholding regimental ethos.

Similarly, the Commandant oversaw the graduation of One Thousand, One Hundred and Fifteen (1,115) personnel rotated from Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) following the completion of their operational tour. Addressing the troops, he urged them to maximize the De-Induction training received, which covered critical areas such as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), family reintegration, unit regimentation, responsible use of social media, and prevention of drug and substance abuse amongst others, all aimed at ensuring seamless reabsorption into unit life.

In a related development, the Commandant earlier inaugurated students of Basic Rigger Course 48 and Basic Airborne Course 61. In his inaugural address, Major General Etim stressed the imperative of strict discipline, total commitment, and professionalism throughout the training period, warning that there would be zero tolerance for indiscipline, particularly given the high-risk nature of airborne and parachute rigging operations where errors could result in fatal casualties.

Highlight of the events was hostage rescue demonstration executed by the students, formal decoration of students with their badges and group photographs.
