ARMED FORCES OF NIGERIA CONDEMNS ILL-TREATMENT OF ARRESTED SUSPECTS IN TRENDING VIDEO The attention of the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has been drawn to a video footage trending in the social media, visually displaying the maltreatment of some suspected armed bandits and kidnappers who were arrested along Road Abuja - Kaduna during a recent operation. Apparently the troops had in their overzealousness tied one of the suspects to a stake in a desperate attempt to extract information from him. The DHQ wishes to unambigously state that the act exhibited by the troops in the video footage is very unprofessional and an outright violation of the code of conduct handed down to guide the conduct and behaviour of troops of the AFN during operations. The DHQ therefore, in very strong terms condemn this act of ineptitude and exhibition of lawlessness. The DHQ considers the conduct of the troops highly regrettable. In order to promptly address the anomally, the Chief of Defence Staff has ordered a thorough investigation into the incident to bring to book all those found culpable in accordance with the military justice system. We seize this opportunity to urge members of the public to please report any such misdemeanor to security agencies whenever they are observed. Please disseminate this information to the general public through your medium. Thank you for your usual cooperation. HUMAN CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT: NAF TRAINS K-9 UNIT FOR SPECIAL OPERATIONS Twenty personnel and 20 dogs of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Canine (K-9) Unit are currently undergoing advanced training in South Africa to enhance their capacity in the areas of Explosives Ordinance Detection (EOD), Narcotics Detection and Special Operations. The Special Operations training covers tracking, rappelling, waterman-ship and other special terrain training aimed at equipping members of the Unit with requisite skills to operate with NAF Special Forces (SF) personnel in Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) situations where they would be required to rescue downed aircrew, especially in denied environments. The special operations dogs would also be employed to support emergency responders in times of disasters to locate survivors. At the end of the training, some of the personnel would be deployed as instructors at the newly established Air Police Training Centre (APTC) Kerang, Plateau State. The APTC’s location in Kerang is expected to enhance coordination of CSAR activities and training with the 205 CSAR Group, which is also based in Kerang. The NAF K-9 Unit was established in 2016 by the incumbent Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar. Under his leadership the Unit has grown steadily over the last 4 years to a total of 39 well-trained dogs deployed at major Nigerian Airports, NAF Units and Theatres of Operation across the Country.

EID-EL-FITR MESSAGE FROM THE CAS It is with great pleasure, and gratitude to the Almighty, that I heartily wish all officers, airmen/airwomen and civilian staff of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) a Happy Eid-El-Fitr! I also wish to congratulate our Muslim faithful on the successful completion of the Ramadan fasting and pray that Almighty Allah accepts our worship and sacrifices whilst guiding us in our future endeavours as we strive to ensure the peace, security and development of our Great Nation. I wish to particularly thank all NAF personnel for their patriotism, dedication and countless sacrifices made in the various Theatres of Operation. Your valuable contributions have ensured that aircraft and ancillary equipment are available, logistics requirements are in place, administrative necessities are met and personnel are combat-ready to tackle the challenges confronting the Nation. The commitment of Commanders and Supervisors at all levels has also facilitated higher standards of professionalism in the Service through robust, job-focused training; commitment to improving personnel welfare as well as result-oriented Research and Development (R& ), which have all had a marked positive impact on our operational effectiveness. I must also appreciate our dear families for their unquantifiable support and encouragement, which have enabled us carry on with our constitutional responsibilities more effectively. It is gratifying to note also that our gallant fighter and helicopter gunship pilots as well as our Regiment and Special Forces personnel are adapting creditably to the threats facing our nation and are making good progress. This is critical to the NAF's increasing capacity for projection as well as protection of Air Power, which are the core functions for which the Service is uniquely positioned. I therefore enjoin you all to redouble your efforts and engage the security challenges with rugged optimism and renewed determination, while remaining professional in the discharge of your constitutional duty of ensuring the security of our Beloved Nation and its Good People. You must be courageous, take the battle to all the adversaries of our Great Nation, be they terrorists, insurgents, bandits or any other criminal elements, in synergy with our Sister Services and other security agencies. Fight them to the finish, not minding the malicious propaganda of the terrorists and their sympathisers. You must also remember, in the course of your duties, to always operate within the ambits of extant local and international laws, while showing compassion and respect for all law-abiding citizens. Importantly, in our celebration of this festive season, let us also take time to remember our colleagues who have paid the supreme price in service to our fatherland. We remember them today as always and restate our commitment to cater for the needs of their loved ones and those they left behind. Let their memories and deeds spur us on to a higher level of dedication that would ensure that their sacrifices were not in vain. Finally, I once again wish you all and your families a Happy Eid-El-Fitr! SB ABUBAKAR Air Marshal Chief of the Air Staff

The embattled leader of Jama'atu Ahlil-Sunnah Lid-Da'awati Wal-Jihad, otherwise known as Boko Haram appeared in a video robed in flowing white apparels whilst clutching an AK47 rifle ... appeared to have impaired eyesight as he struggled to read his group's ideology in Arabic, while intermittently reciting Nigeria's National pledge in English, which he repeatedly said was an act of Shirk. The 35 minute long speech in Arabic, according to analyst may be targeted to the international jihadi community, and not the local audience in the #LakeChad region because #BokoHaram have been made a pariah terror group, following feuds between Shekau and several warlords ... |
