I swear I dont know why we didnt get a more recent version of the lynx.....we depreciated with the a109
But the Aw109 as proven itself in terms of operational flights and very cheap to maintain. The recent lynx choppers are very very expensive to maintain and to operate, as for me I say let's stick with the Aw109 for now !

OPERATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS: NAF COMMISSIONS NEWLY ESTABLISHED GEOSPATIAL INTELLIGENCE DATA CENTRE IN ABUJA

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 19 March 2019, commissioned a new, state-of-the-art Geospatial Intelligence Data Centre (GIDC) at the Headquarters NAF Abuja. The GIDC is to further enhance the ongoing Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) efforts in the North East and other parts of Nigeria. The Centre, which is equipped with high-tech computer hardware and software, would‪ improve NAF capacity for acquisition, exploitation, analysis and interpretation of imagery and geospatial information to provide actionable intelligence for the Armed Forces and other security agencies. ‬

In his remarks, the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Abayomi Olonisakin, who was the Guest of Honour at the commissioning ceremony, commended the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, for the laudable initiative. He stated that the new Centre would undoubtedly add value to the efforts of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) in better securing the Country and making it a safer place for all. He also expressed delight with the readiness of the NAF to make the products of the Centre available not only to the AFN but also to other security agencies like the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) and the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), who could use it to determine old and new border crossing points used by illegal immigrants or smugglers. The CDS also noted that the Centre could not have come into being at a more auspicious time than now with various areas of disturbance in the Country, while adding that it was indeed a testimony of prudent management of resources by the leadership of the NAF.

While making his remarks, the CAS, Air Marshal Abubakar, stated that the establishment of the NAF GIDC was as a result of the resolve of the Service to continue to build capacity across the spectrum of operations so as to bring the fight against terrorism and other forms of criminality in the Country to an end as soon as possible. He reiterated that the Centre would employ and deploy satellite and other cutting edge technologies, including sophisticated and high-value computer software, to gather and analyse data to produce intelligence in support of NAF and joint operations across the Country. The CAS added that, in its effort to operate at par with militaries all over the world, the NAF embarked on the worthwhile endeavor by leapfrogging from traditional means of intelligence gathering to the use of space-borne platforms in the production of actionable intelligence for operational effectiveness. The CAS, who used the opportunity to express his profound gratitude to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his continued support and encouragement to the NAF, also thanked the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, the CDS as well as local and foreign partners, for their collaboration through which the project became a reality.

‪The CDS, CAS and other dignitaries, including the Comptroller-General (CG) of the NCS, Colonel Hameed Ali (retired), were conducted on a guided tour of facilities in the GIDC. One of the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of one of the products of the Centre, printed satellite images of specific areas of interest, to the CDS and CG NCS. ‬

20 Su-30MKI grounded due to servicing issue.

Recent report published by Indian Express citing govt sources says that 20 Su-30MKI aircraft, the backbone of the Indian Air Force, are lying with Hindustan Aeronautics for overhaul and are not available for combat.

While HAL has 15 overhauling lines, it could service only 10 aircraft last year. MoD sources highlighted the problem and said that “assuming the massive effect of the problem, remedial measures have been taken.”

The delay is of three years. While the HAL had 15 overhauling/serving lines and it was not able to complete the task, Air Force’s Base Repair Depots have set up 10 additional lines to make up for the loss of time. HAL sources said the aim is to bring the time period for overhauling/servicing to 22 months in the next two years and then the BRD will assist in bringing it down to 15 months.

Every IAF fighter aircraft goes to HAL for major overhauling and servicing. In case of Sukhois, they are due for overhauling after completing 1,200 hours of flying time. The minor overhauling of the IAF aircraft and helicopters is done at the unit level.

Initially, the schedule to complete the overhauling was 14 months but HAL wanted the time raised to 22 months. However, HAL has not been able to meet even this target as it takes around 27 months to overhaul/service one Su-30 MKI. This delay has caused a number of Sukhois to be non-operational.

The matter assumes significance in the light of losses of fighters in recent months. This year, the number of fighter squadrons is down to 30 against the authorised strength of 42.

IADN Note - Major reforms are required in govt PSUs handling such critical assets of national security. Bureaucracy and no accountability of work is the main problem such critical things go unnoticed for long time.

A high level United Nations and European Union delegation comprising the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General to Central Africa, Francois Fall, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary General to West Africa and Sahel, Mohammed Ibn Chambas and the Special Representative of the European Union to the Sahel, Angel Losada have visited the Headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force in N'Djamena, Chad.

Speaking during the visit Special Representative Francois Fall thanked the Force Commander, Major General Chikezie Ude for the successes recorded in the ongoing Operation YANCIN TAFKI, noting that the progress made so far is encouraging. He observed that the Boko Haram problem requires more than a military solution, stressing that there is a need to also examine and address the socioeconomic underpinnings of the crisis.

Also speaking, Mr Angel Losada conveyed the support and solidarity of the European Union to the MNJTF, noting that the Union will remain in partnership with the MNJTF, particularly, in the areas of political strategy and intelligence sharing.

In his response, the Force Commander commended members of the delegation for the visit. Other members of the delegation were the UN Resident Coordinator in Chad, Mr Stephen Tull and the Executive Manager of the Committee against Terrorism, Michelle Coninsk.

Troops Repel BHT Attack on Michika in Adamawa State. BHTs met their Waterloo and suffered heavy casualties yesterday evening 18 March 2019 when they attempted to infiltrate Michika in Adamawa State.

At about 7.20 pm, gallant troops of 115 Task Force Battalion deployed at Lassa in Borno State received a distress call from vigilantes at Maikadiri village on movement of suspected BHTs along Road Maikadiri – Shuwari enroute Michika.
The troops immediately organized blocking positions and swooped on the terrorists which led to exchange of fire. The terrorists attempted to escape but were intercepted and suppressed with heavy volume of fire.

Consequently, the gallant troops with reinforcement from 143 Battalion Gulak engaged the terrorists on Two Front Coordinated Attacks. The BHTs were completely routed by the troops, neutralizing many of them while others fled in disarray due to superior firepower.

As a result, they hastily evacuated most of their corpses under the cover of darkness. The entire area has been dominated by own troops and the situation is completely under control. Items captured from the terrorists include One Ford vehicle, two Toyota Starlet vehicles loaded with foodstuffs, one motorcycle and one tyre inflating machine.
