BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS ON THE RUN ALONG JEBBRA - FIRGI CROSSING POINT IN BANKI BORNO STATE

In their resolve to dominate their general area of operation as well as to deny the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) freedom of action, the troops of Operation Lafiya Dole, 151 Battalion at about 1921hrs on 16 February 2019 embarked on aggressive fighting patrol and also mounted an ambush along Jebbra - Firgi Banki axis of Borno State, a notable crossing point of the BHTs.

The terrorists in a crafty move bypassed own troops through another route but were however noticed by the ever vigilant and dogged troops who followed in a hot pursuit with fire power on target thereby inflicting heavy casualties on the runaway terrorists, scampered for their lives in disarray. During the operation, troops neutralised 2 BHTs and unconfirmed number of terrorists fled with gunshot wounds.

Items recovered were 2 motorcycles, 7 bicycles charms and other assorted drugs. Further exploitation of the general area was conducted at first light on 17 February 2019.
Troops return to base in high morale.

TROOPS WARDS OFF BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS DESPARATE MOVE TO SCUTTLE 2019 ELECTIONS IN BORNO STATE

In the early hours of today, there was an attack by unconfirmed number of Boko Haram terrorists using Person Borne Improvised Explosive Device (PBIED) at Jidimari community in Jidari Polo area of Jere Local Government Area of Borno State. This is in their highly desperate, orchestrated and collaborative resolve with their cohorts and sponsors to scuttle the 2019 General Elections.

Consequently, troops of 251 Task Force Battalion in conjunction with Civilian JTF immediately repelled the attack, mopped up and cleared the general area.

The encounter led to the elimination of 3 boko haram terrorists and recovery of 2 AK 47 rifles. Unfortunately, 4 innocent civilians lost their lives as a result of terrorists gun fire in addition to lethal explosion arising from PBIED mainly targeted at a mosque at a prime time of early morning prayers.

The carrier of the PBIED and a CJTF who strived to prevent the suicide bomber from accessing the mosque also lost their lives due to the IED explosion.

At the moment, troops have dominated the area, cordon and search as well as exploitation are concurrently ongoing.

Situation in the area is now calm. Normal routine activities are gradually going on. The army wishes to reiterate its resolve to ending the remnant of boko haram criminals thereby bringing an effective and an enduring end to terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria.

Members of the public are please enjoined to be more alert and avail security agencies of any observed or suspicious movement of persons or items. Doing so will indeed assist security agencies to effectively deal with the challenge.

It is possible that the NAF is using Thermobaric/Aerosol bombs? I watched a couple of NAF air strikes on youtube over the last weeks and i saw several times how green trees catched fire after a bombing. I wonder if that could be the result of of high heat generation as an effect of thermobaric blasts.

SHETTIMA'S REACTION TO TUESDAY'S INCIDENT

Governor Kashim Shettima mourns, with the deepest thoughts and heartfelt condolences, the demise of some fellow citizens, brothers, associates and loyal supporters following an unfortunate ambush of some vehicles in his convoy by suspected insurgents on Tuesday evening along the road to Gamboru, headquarters of Ngala local government area.

While the Governor is expecting full security briefing to get accurate information on the incident, preliminary report on Wednesday, confirmed the killing of three persons during the attack, which principally aimed to attract local and global media attention in order to sustain propaganda strategy and to instil fear in citizens and gallant troops.

Governor Shettima who returned at night yesterday, will today (Thursday) meet families of those affected by the attack. The Governor will also meet some security heads to review the incident and more importantly, to continue his determined collaboration with all security agencies and volunteers in remaining committed to the ongoing fight against Boko Haram. The unfortunate incident will not make the Governor have doubt in the capacity of gallant and patriotic personnel of the Nigerian armed forces who have dedicated their lives fighting for peace and the freedom of Borno people. The Governor has absolute confidence in the armed forces and given his access to raw updates, he is aware of the successes being recorded by the armed forces despite Tuesday's and previous attacks by the insurgents. For one success recorded by the insurgents, the armed forces record dozens against them. The Governor remains optimistic and urges citizens to be calm, prayerful and supportive of the Nigerian armed forces and volunteers through means that include (as they have been doing) the sharing of useful information.

Tuesday's incident happened while the Governor was on his way to Gamboru in continuation of campaigns for the Presidential and national assembly elections coming up on Saturday. The Governor had left Maiduguri on Tuesday morning and stopped for campaigns in Mafa and Dikwa local government areas before heading to Gamboru where he passed the night and returned to Maiduguri on Wednesday. He had on Monday traveled to Damasak, headquarters of Mobbar local government area in northern Borno. Before then, he had previously held campaigns in most parts of northern Borno including Monguno where he spent the night. He had also been to all the nine local government areas of southern Borno including Chibok, Gwoza, Askira-Uba and Biu where he spent days.

The Governor extends his deepest gratitude to friends, associates and other well meaning Nigerians that shown concern over the incident.

Special Adviser on communications and strategy.

Following the successful neutralising of scores of the Boko Haram Terrorists (BHTs) and recovery of cache of assorted arms and ammunition by the dogged troops of 143 Battalion(Bn), 28 Task Force Brigade, Sector 1 Operation Lafiya Dole recently at Madagali Adamawa State, the battalion has recorded yet another great feat. In this regard, the gallant troops once again devastated and clipped the wings of the terrorists group in a fierce encounter which occurred at about 1810hrs on Tuesday, 12 February 2019.

The terrorists came in 5 Gun Trucks, Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) and Vehicle - Borne IED but met superior fire power by own troops.
During the encounter, the troops successfully repelled the attack and went on hot pursuit with heavy fire and momentum. 5 BHTs were neutralised, others withdrew with gunshot wounds while several equipment were captured and others destroyed.

Troops captured 1 gun truck mounted with Anti Aircraft (AA) Gun, 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tube, 8 AK 47 Rifles and 60 rounds of 12.77 mm ammunition. Others include 4 X 36 Hand Grenades, 6 AK 47 Rifle Magazines, 1 FN Rifle and 1 Techno Phone. Also, 1 Gun Truck, 1 AA Gun, 1 Vehicle - Borne IED belonging to the BHTs were all destroyed. However, 1 soldier was wounded in action and receiving prompt medical attention while, regrettably a Civilian JTF was killed in action.

Further exploitation of initial success was conducted at the early hours of Wednesday, 13 February 2019. Troops discovered 6 additional neutralised bodies of the BHTs and recovered 4 AK47 Rifles, 1 FN Rifle and empty magazine, 1 x 36 Hand Grenade and 1 Unexploded Ordnance RPG Bomb.

The Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1, Operation Lafiya Dole, Brigadier General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu while applauding their effort, conveyed the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai's special commendation for a job well done and urged them to maintain the momentum until the total defeat of the BHTs. The COAS also promises to continue to accord greater attention to the welfare of troops and also commiserates with the family of the fallen Civilian JTF.

Thanks for the clarification, Bidexiii.
Do you have any idea if DICON got the nod to start producing them locally? Bad idea, I know, but just checking.

I noticed some AFSF guys also carry AK103 as seen on this thread.
Maybe they were issued by NAF since most of the guys in the picture I saw are NAF guys.
Our main issue has been; working with tight military budget and order-of-priority. The DICON factory in Kaduna is still undergoing some upgrades and they have to work with the little budget allocated to th sector. It migh take along time/years befor these modern riffle production line comes to lime-light.

The Army authorities on there own part too does not place its priorities right. The recent military factory commissioned to build & repiar ATV/BRT and other armored vehicles in Kaduna is a repetition of what we have in Bauchi. The Bauchi SPV should have just be upgraded to meet the current challenges instead of creating another plant in Kaduna. Such funds would av been diverted to DICON or othe important sectors.

Those AK Variants used by AFSF are issued by the defense HQ and are only used by the AFSF.

The NA issues the beryl riffle to its SF; 72MSF/army strike force etc.

Bidexii, the buttstock of that guy's rifle looks different.
What rifle is that and what unit do they belong to?
Its the common beryl riffle used by the AFSF; expand the picture you will see its the same riffle buttstock, only there is a kind of military sticker badge/decals on the buttstock.
