GHANA STAFF COLLEGE COMMENDS NIGERIA LEADERSHIP ROLE IN PEACE SUPPORT OPERATIONS

The Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) has lauded the leadership role being played by Nigeria in peace support operations in Africa. The GAFCSC Course 39 gave this commendation on Monday during a study tour to the Nigeria Defence Headquarters Abuja.

The visit of the GAFCSC students to Nigeria was part of deliberate efforts aimed at strengthening existing bilateral and military cooperation between both countries.

The GAFCSC students visit to Nigeria is also part of their study tour to strategic organizations including military institutions to broaden their knowledge on the operational activities of these institutions.

Speaking during their visit to Defence Headquarters, the head of the GAFCSC delegation and the Deputy Commandant of the Institution, Brigadier General Augustine Komla Boimah stated that the study tour was to foster the existing military cooperation between the Ghanaian Armed Forces and its Nigerian counterpart.

Commenting on the theme for the Africa tour, which is “Enhancing Africa Unity through Social Economic, Culture and Military Cooperation,”

Brigadier General Boimah, said aside strengthening the long standing relationship between both countries, the students are expected to gain more knowledge on the roles and operational activities of the Nigerian Armed Forces in regional, sub-regional and global military operations.

Addressing the GAFCSC delegation and students, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, who was represented by the Chief of Defence Policy and Plans, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Emmanuel Anebi said the visit by the GAFCSC to Defence Headquarters will further promote the already established closer ties between both countries Armed Forces.

AVM Anebi, who thanked the authority of the GAFCSC for selecting Nigeria in its African study tour this year, wished the delegation and students safe trip as they travel to Kaduna tomorrow and consequently back to Ghana.

Highpoint of the interactive session was the emphasis on the need for the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain committed to its leadership role in peace support operations in sub-regional, regional and global scene.

Beside the tour to Nigeria, another set of the GAFCSC students are equally touring four African countries. These countries are Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Tanzania, and Zambia.

TROOPS OF OPERATION LAFIYA DOLE REPEL BOKO INCURSION INTO JIDARI

Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE have in the late hours of today, Thursday 26 April 2018 successful repelled Boko Haram Terrorist incursion in the outskirt of Jidari Polo area of Maiduguri.

Troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE with the support of the Air Task Force, Nigerian Police Force, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and other security agencies including the Civilian Joint Task Force quickly mobilised to the area and cleared the terrorists incursion.

The troops of Operation LAFIYA DOLE are currently in pursuit of the Boko Haram Terrorists and have dominated the area while also patrolling the general area of Jidari. Therefore, the general public and residents of the area that have earlier flee are enjoined to return to their residence. They are further encourage to report any suspicious persons to security agencies currently patrolling the area.

NIGERIAN ARMY SETS UP MEDIA OPERATION CENTRE FOR OPERATION LAST HOLD

1. The Nigerian Army has set up a Media Operation Centre for the ongoing Operation LAST HOLD in the North East. The Centre is established to coordinate all matters relating to media activities as well as dissemination of useful and timely information to the general public. The operation is expected to last 4 months commencing from 1st May 2018 and it entails deployment of additional 4 maneouvre brigades. The end state of Operation LAST HOLD is the total defeat of Boko Haram Terrorists to facilitate the restoration of fishing, farming and other economic activities in the Lake Chad Basin.

2. The Media Centre will coordinate all information emanating from the theatre in both traditional and social media platforms for prompt and adequate dissemination of information to ensure the successful conduct of the operation. The Centre will be coordinated by the Chief of Civil Military Affairs, Major General Nuhu Angbazo, on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Buratai.
