Boko Haram Attacks Community On Newly Reopened Maiduguri-Bama Road

Some suspected Boko Haram gunmen on Sunday night attacked a Borno community located along the Maiduguri-Bama road.
The road was on Saturday reopened by the Nigerian military four years after it was taken by Boko Haram.
The gunmen stormed the village in their dozens at about 10 p.m.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE AIRLIFTS DAPCHI GIRLS BACK TO MAIDUGURI

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) C-130 Hercules Aircraft today, 25 March 2018, airlifted the Dapchi girls back to Maiduguri from where they would be transported to Dapchi, under armed air escort, to reunite with their families. The return of the girls to their community took place after President Muhammadu Buhari and other top Government officials had received them at the Government House in Abuja on 23 March 2018. All the girls, including a boy and 3 teachers from the girls’ school were seen boarding the aircraft.

It would be recalled that after their release by the Boko Haram Terrorists on Wednesday, 21 March 2018, personnel of the Air Task Force of Operation LAFIYA DOLE as well as other officers of the Theatre Command received the girls at the NAF Base Maiduguri. At the NAF Base, personnel of the Air Task Force were already waiting to give refreshments to the girls. After the refreshments, the girls were airlifted aboard a NAF C-130 Hercules Aircraft to Abuja, where senior Government officials received them.

LEAH SHARIBU WILL NOT BE ABANDONED- PRESIDENT BUHARI

President Muhammadu Buhari is as committed to the freedom of the only Dapchi schoolgirl still in captivity as he was to the girls' freedom when all 110 were in the captivity of Boko Haram terrorists.

The Buhari administration will not relent in efforts to bring Leah Sharibu safely back home to her parents as it has done for the other girls after she was held back by the terrorists over her decision, as reported, not to convert from Christianity to Islam.

President Buhari is fully conscious of his duty under the constitution to protect all Nigerians, irrespective of faith, ethnic background or geopolitical location and will not shirk in this responsibility.

The President is equally mindful of the fact that true followers of Islam all over the world respect the injunction that there is no compulsion in religion.

* To this effect, no one or group can impose its religion on another.

His heart goes out to the isolated parents who must watch others rejoice while their own daughter is still away.

The lone Dapchi girl, Leah, will not be abandoned.

President Buhari assures the Sharibu family that he will continue to do all he can to ensure that they also have cause to rejoice with their daughter soon.

NAF COMMENCES ISSUANCE OF NEW IDENTITY CARD WITH ENHANCED SECURITY FEATURES

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), yesterday, 21 March 2018, at the Headquarters NAF, Abuja, commenced the issuance of a new improved Identity (ID) Card to its personnel. The new ID card comes with enhanced security features, designed to help reduce the rate at which NAF ID Cards are falsified by impersonators. The introduction of the new card was considered necessary in view of contemporary challenges of terrorism, insurgency and other associated security threats. Besides, global best practices demand that such security documents be periodically reviewed.

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, shortly after he was registered and presented with his new NAF ID Card, expressed satisfaction with the enhanced security features available on the new ID card. He noted that there could not have been a better time to introduce the new ID Card, with its advanced security measures, considering the rate at which military personnel were being impersonated in recent times. He added that the improved security measures would no doubt aid speedy and positive identification of NAF personnel while at the same time ensuring operational security. He then directed all NAF personnel to immediately take necessary steps to replace their current NAF ID Cards.

The new NAF ID Card, which comes with enhanced security features, also features an expiry date, an improvement on the former one that had no expiry date.
