NAF DECORATES RECENTLY PROMOTED SENIOR OFFICERS, HONOURS LATE INSTRUCTOR PILOT

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has decorated 22 Air Vice Marshals (AVMs) and 28 Air Commodores who were recently promoted by the Air Council. This was the first time such a large number of senior officers would be promoted and decorated by the Service. Also, decorated posthumously was Late Air Commodore Gabriel Ochai who died in an air crash on 24 August 2017 in Kaduna. His wife, Mrs Rita Ochai was in attendance to receive the rank insignia on behalf of her late husband. This was done in an effort to sustain the morale of NAF personnel who fight day and night to keep the country together.
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who decorated the senior officers alongside other dignitaries and their spouses stated that the promotion of the senior officers was premised on their past excellent performances and the resolve of the Service to constantly reward excellence. “Promotion is not a right but a privilege given to selected deserving officers to enable them undertake higher responsibilities,” the CAS added. The CAS reminded the newly promoted senior officers to be always guided by the Service’s social contract with the Nigerian people. According to him, “Nigerian tax payers would expect the new generals to work harder to ensure that their communities are stable, safe and secured”. Air Marshal Abubakar congratulated the newly decorated senior officers and their families while advising them to show commitment to their responsibilities and uphold the core value of excellence for which the NAF is renowned. The CAS charged the newly decorated senior officers to rededicate themselves to the service of the nation and brace up for the challenges ahead.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Administration (COA), Air Vice Marshal Lawal Alao, noted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria annually undertake promotion exercise to motivate its officers towards rededicating themselves to assigned duties and service to the nation. He pointed out that the NAF has done well and made history by promoting 22 Air Vice Marshals and 28 Air Commodores. This, he said, was a demonstration of pragmatism, visionary leadership and commitment by the CAS and the Air Council to sustaining the morale of NAF personnel.
The CAS and selected dignitaries, all of who were assisted by the spouses/relatives of those being decorated, decorated the newly promoted senior officers.

NAF COMMISSIONS RESIDENTIAL ACCOMMODATION BLOCK IN LAGOS, IMMORTALIZES LATE C-130H AIRCRAFT PILOT

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday, 23 November 2017, commissioned a block of 6 x 3-bedroom flats for officers’ accommodation at the Sam Ethnan Air Force Base in Lagos. The residential block was named after late Squadron Leader Promise Gbenekannu, a C-130H aircraft pilot, who died on board a NAF C-130H aircraft while on a logistics resupply mission to troops fighting insurgency and terrorism in the North East. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, represented by the Air Officer Commanding Logistics Commanding (AOC LC), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Ibrahim Yahaya, stated that it was appropriate for the Base to receive commensurate attention in the provision of facilities for the general well being of the personnel. This was necessitated by the fact that majority of the families of personnel working in different operational areas across reside within the Base.
According to the CAS, “We have embarked on the construction of new quarters as well as renovation and rehabilitation of dilapidated buildings to address the infrastructural decay of the past. Arrangements are in top gear to address many other areas of infrastructural deficit, including the renovation of more accommodation facilities as well as rehabilitation of roads and drainage systems in the Base”. “It is hoped that this would create an enabling environment and motivation for personnel to discharge their duties effectively and efficiently”, he said. The CAS said the NAF would continue to do its best to discharge its statutory responsibility of defending the territorial integrity of the nation. While charging the beneficiaries to properly maintain the accommodation, the CAS expressed appreciation to the Federal Government for the continued support to the military, especially the NAF. He therefore enjoined personnel to sustain the efforts at repositioning the NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force for effective, efficient and timely employment of air power.

Earlier, the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) Logistics Command, AVM Ibukun Ojeyemi, who delivered the welcome address on behalf of the AOC LC, noted that the project was part of the value additions that were continuously being made by the current NAF administration in line with the mantra of the CAS that “There is no finishing line in the race to add value to the society”. He added that 3 other projects were ongoing to further meet the growing accommodation need occasioned by the expansion of the Service in response to national security imperatives.

In recent times, the morale of NAF personnel has been increasingly getting higher as the perennial accommodation challenge within the NAF gets gradually resolved, all thanks to the timely provision of funds by the Federal Government Administration and the focused leadership of the CAS. Present at the commissioning ceremony were the family of the late C-130H aircraft pilot as well as senior officers, both serving and retired.

First pic, why is that guy wearing an odd coloured shirt? Last pic, why is that guy wearing a fedora like hat? I thought that was for the army alone. Never seen an air man wear that.
- the first pic with a guy with odd T-shirt, his a NN camo T-shirt. I sense the guy is an instructor borrowed from the Navy for that particular exercise. just gussing but the T-shirt is definately Navy.

for the Fedora; the Nigeria Navy and Airforce uses it also.

NIGERIAN AIR FORCE ENGAGES IN COMMUNITY SERVICE IN LAGOS

The Logistics Command of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) on, 18 November 2017, organized an environmental sanitation exercise for residents of Mafoluku, Shogunle and Ladipo in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State, as part of its Quarterly Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) outreach programme. The CIMIC Programme, which was aimed at improving the cordial relationship between the NAF and members of the host communities, attracted a large turnout of NAF personnel. Residents of Mafoluku, Shogunle and Ladipo, who were the direct beneficiaries of the Exercise, expressed profound appreciation to NAF personnel for cleaning their environment. The residents, who were very glad at seeing the men in uniform cleaning their communities, expressed their willingness to continue to cooperate and support the NAF in all its activities whenever the need arises. According to the residents, the proximity of the NAF Base to the communities has remained a source of blessing to the host communities. They, therefore, seized the opportunity to commend the NAF for its quick response to distress calls whenever there is a breach of peace in their communities.

The Commander 651 Base Services Group Ikeja, Air Commodore Musibau Olatunji, who was represented by Wing Commander Alfred Ogbonda during the Exercise, stated that the concept of community relations is a crucial departmental activity in the NAF. He noted that engagements with the civil populace enhance relationship between the military and civilians while also encouraging mutual cooperation. According to him, “civilians see the military as unapproachable. We need to interact with them in a manner to show them that we are part of them,” he said. The Base Commander also noted that the Quarterly Exercise would reinforce the confidence and trust of civilians and create the mutual understanding, cooperation and support necessary for the Nigerian Armed Forces to succeed in their operations.

The NAF, under the leadership of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has continued to place a lot of premium on respect for the human rights of members of the general populace and the maintenance of cordial civil-military relations at all NAF bases across the country. About 200 NAF personnel keenly participated in the sanitation exercise.
