Nigerian Senators rejects President Tinubu’s request for Troops deployment to Niger Republic against NigerCoup military junta, PremiumTimes reports.

A FEW HOURS after signing a defense agreement with Niger Republic’s new military government, the head of Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin gave his take on the situation in Niger and the subregion, and said that he sees all these struggles as “liberating,” calling France and the collective west “thieves.” On the major problems that led to the coup in Niger, Prigozin said, “I will answer what the basis for the change of power in Niger is. The basis is the economy. The population of Niger has been driven to poverty for a long time. For example, a French company that mines uranium sold it in the market for $218 while paying Niger only $11 out of every $218 for it.”

Resources are assembled, plans perfected; Niger coup leader will be forced out of power— ECOWAS. ECOWAS says the bloc has assembled all resources & perfected plans to invade Niger Republic to force out the military junta & reinstate its democratically elected leader, President Mohamed Bazoum. “All the elements that would go into any eventual intervention have been brought out here & been refined, including the timing, the resources needed & the how & where & when we are going to deploy such a force,” the ECOWAS commissioner for political affairs, peace & security, Abdel-Fatau Musah, assured at a meeting with other ECOWAS chiefs in Abuja on Friday, August 4, 2023. “We will make them handover to the civilian authorities,” He added. Odunayaw:Well said @-odunayaw, they don't even have the economic wealth to fight a full scale war. On the other side of the coin, I think the people are also tired of French and western dominance on there natural resources. How can a country be blessed in Gold and Uranium which are in high demand be so poor and struggling to fight terrorist. Sometimes i do ask what are the French doing in all these countries and yet JNIM, AQIM and ISWAP are flourishing in these region. |
