You did not say "over $8b." And $8.26b is not $8.5b.

Cross-check your figures before posting them or you'll be called out. Very simple.

Dumbito, is this not part of the same post?

And then I asked where did I state GEJ spent nothing, and then you went on a shameful tirade.

Now who has comprehension problems?

Your madness don enter new gear.

GEJ spent over $8b on NIPP in 5 years -- https://www.businessdayonline.com/fg-spends-8-26bn-on-power-sector-inaugurates-nipp-olorunsogo-ogun/

Yar'Adua spent over $5b on NIPP in 2 years -- https://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/08/power-sector-senate-probes-obj-yaradua-jonathan/

OBJ spent over $6b on the same NIPP in 2 years.

Note that they are the same links you provided.

Now let me ask you, if three successive governments spent over $19b on one project (and a fourth one is still spending) and the project isn't complete yet, is that project a good idea? I don't know what your problem is. Why are trying so hard to be s*lly?

Yar'Adua and GEJ had already zeroed their mind to privatize PHCN, but they had to meet the power generation commitments started by OBJ. Buhari is also meeting the same commitments. The NIPP is a white elephant project. So again I ask, who is more wasteful?

Since you have trouble comprehending, the question is why did you have to mention the drop during the handover week, without stating the reason?

Your entire post reeked of "it happened under GEJ, so keep shut about it happening under PMB," but you didn't give any perspective. How hard would it have been for you to explain why the collapse is usual, and use GEJ or Yar'Adua or OBJ's time as an example.

Your post was more about demonizing GEJ and his efforts in the electricity sector than explaining why the collapse under PMB was not unusual.

If you can't be objective abstain from making cynical jabs.

-Lord

Common get off it. GEJ was defeated and he's not coming back. Stop comparing PMB with GEJ . Compare PMB with what standard is supposed to be. Criticise him but stop comparing him with GEJ.

I had to look…

it costs $20,000 to get the oil changed in a Bugatti. They don’t describe the whole procedure, but the general gist I found was they pull the engine, pull the heads and split the block for a thorough internal inspection. In short, they overhaul the engine once a year because you’ve got to have this done every twelve months.

I can only assume it’s $20,000 plus the cost of any damaged parts they find.

LordAdam16:

You have started this nonsense in 2018.

GEJ did not spend $8.5b on the electricity sector. Provide a quote to back that up.

GEJ privatized the sector. That's what he did for most of his tenure. Every money spent was in completing existing power plants, boosting transmission capacity, and rural electrification. The money he realized from selling off the generation and distribution part of PHCN was used to pay gratuity to the workers. Every last kobo of it. It is on record.

OBJ wasted $16b on power, yet you guys were falling at his feet in 2015. If I were to blame him, I wouldn't say it's because of the amount he wasted, because he was our first president in the fourth republic and he at least had to try to make it work under government hands. What I'd condemn him for is how long it took him to realize that he had to privatize the sector. It took him too long.

Why do you think he decided to sell the refineries?

GEJ got elected, saw all the stats and knew throwing money down the pan would not yield anything tangible. He also found that restructuring NEPA to PHCN didn't do much either, so he decided to unbundle it and let the government run only the transmission part. It is that same transmission part that has collapsed an average of 30 times annually since 2014. Including in 2015, 2016, 2017, and yesterday was the first of this year. It would collapse again before this month is over.

All of you politicizing power in Nigeria are completely disgraceful.

And Nigeria was not generating 2000 MW when GEJ handed over. We have a bloody government-established website tracking power generation in Nigeria--https://nsong.org.

It gives daily updates. The peak and lowest generation always varies and it's been between 4000-5000MW peak and 2500-38000MW off-peak since 2014. Occasionally, it drops below 2000MW, like it did in March 2016 when it dropped to 1580MW -- https://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/03/power-generation-drops-to-1580-6mw/.

So, don't be stup*d! If you have nothing tangible to say, sh*t your trap!

-Lord

You may defend GEJ till infinity but we were alive when he ruled. Electricity was not better. He handed over of our electric asset to the most incompetent fools. For 5years the discos can not meter everybody they can not change all the moribund equipment within the system.

Did you really think our grid was expertly developed?

It wasn't, and that's the first inkling to know uninterrupted power supply will not be a thing in Nigeria until well after the 2020's. There's no magic that'd make it happen faster.

Simple metering we've been unable to resolve since 2014. Because everyone and their grandma is passing the buck around.

The major issue really are politicians who'd always rise up with fluffy promises and populist statements when all the experts know none of that is feasible.

As at July last year, the national grid had collapsed 14 times in the first 6 months -- http://punchng.com/power-grid-has-collapsed-14-times-this-year/

In 2016, it collapsed 21 times in the first 6 months -- http://www.informationng.com/2016/07/nigerias-power-grid-collapsed-21-times-in-first-six-months-of-2016.html

Usually tho', there was a same-day or at most 2-day (typically only a few hours) wait before partial restoration. It's been that way since the 2000s, but you can already see the political jobbers making a big deal about this particular instance.

This is also not the first time the Ministry of Power is giving updates on total grid collapse, but because 2019 is around the corner and its the festive season, they're playing to the gallery. It started with Nebo, and is required by law. Even pre-privatization, these updates were made but it was usually retrospective.

Before this month runs out there'd be another grid collapse. It's a structural issue and is inevitable until we revitalize the transmission segment (no one is ready to do that tho', since everyone simply wants to be remembered for how many wattage of capacity they added).

And you and I know Fashola would not use the Twitter handle to give updates in subsequent times, instead he'd revert to the TCN updates which are required by law.

It's all politics.

Our strategic vulnerability will remain for the next 10 years at least. It would only be addressed until we've achieved stable (not yet steady) power supply. And including more players should quicken things, but only after resolving most of the issues plaguing the sector currently. Unfortunately, no one is being honest right now. And the bickering continues.

Agreements are not honored on both sides (government and institutional players), payments are delayed or held on both sides, there are still disagreements on many rules and arrangements. It's a f*king madhouse.

I have posted facts there.

Now can you rebut anything I stated above with facts?

No wonder you were deceived to vote for Buhari in 2015. Facts are there, freely available, yet you wouldn't do yourself and your descendants a favor to read them.

And if you say we have nothing to show for almost 20 years of democracy, then you should migrate to North Korea. Clearly, you were either born in the 2000s or you've been living under a rock. In virtually all indices, we were better off in 2015 than we were in 1999. ALL INDICES.

If that's the definition of NOTHING to you, you should tear up your PVC. You're doing great disservice to the nation by casting a vote.

Keep waiting for that Messiah that would transform Nigeria to Singapore in one tenure. Or that would magically end corruption in one fell swoop under this current system.

Since 1999, we've been having better leaders in continued succession. OBJ was better than all the previous dictators joined together, even tho' he had his faults. Yar'Adua was better than OBJ, despite his faults. GEJ was better than Yar'Adua and OBJ, despite his faults. Then people like you who are intellectually handicapped decided to reverse the trend and go pick a dinosaur.

For example, OBJ declared that election was a do-or-die affair. Yar'Adua came and acknowledged that the election that brought him in was not free and fair. GEJ declared that his ambition was not worth the blood of any Nigerian. Then you guys went to vote someone who said he'd soak dogs and baboons in blood.

And you think you're normal upstairs. Clap for yourself!

-Lord

Ok. I have heard you GEJ was the best president. OK HE was even flawless.
He met a reserve of $67B but left $29B even with Oil selling at more than $110 bbl.
Crude oil theft was at its highest in his regime.
GEJ was mistake that should have never happened.
PMB is also mistake that's should not happen.

We cant become Singapore in a term but we are not on track at all.
We can never get it right till the end of this world.

A. Ethno-religious reasons. The bulk of his antagonists fell in this group. Over 60%.
B. Overblown issues with his administration.

Sanusi said $20b was stolen. He later reduced it to $10b. Later to $2-5b. Till date, and with an opposition government in place, they've not been able to trace the money.

The opposition claimed he was promulgating subsidy fraud. Yet, when in his wisdom he decided to remove it in 2012, they said over their dead bodies. Later when the same marketers held the nation to ransom for fear of not receiving payments, they quickly passed the blame to him.

Buhari is on record for saying they've got nothing on Diezani. Yet she was so villified. After over half a dozen independent audits since 2015, no one can say this is the exact amount Diezani stole.

The same people who decried the launch of the offensive against Boko Haram and establishing emergency rule in Northern states were the same people saying GEJ was lacking in will to fight the group.

The same people who lampooned all governmental efforts to negotiate the release of Chibok girls are the same people celebrating the release today.

He said stealing was not corruption. Illiterates took that as a smoking gun to mean his endorsement of corruption. Yet the ICPC chief, officer in charge one of the leading anti-corruption LEA, reiterated the same thing. It is on record.

For every Morro that was given a clean bill of health, there was a Stella Odua, Yakubu, and the invisible saint Maina that were deposed. And everyone seems to forget that the Immigration Recruitment Exercise was contracted out to a private firm. And that after the incident, GEJ ordered automatic employment for affected families. He also ordered immediate return of all the funds collected from the applicants. It is all on record.

For every Alams, there was an Ibori.

They said he gave the oil pipelines to criminals and they didn't suggest a viable alternative. NSCDC has had minimal effect on vandalism. And they say he courted criminals, yet Henry Okah is still in a SA jail, MEND is still a shadow of its former self, and he hunted and killed John Togo.

I could keep it flowing like I was writing a novel. The bottom line is that those who hated him in 2015 had already started hating him in 2011. Everything was fair to use against him, from unsubstantiated allegations to pure conjectures. And it became a mortal crime to say anything about his achievements. They were not noteworthy and nonexistent. He was simply a reincarnation of the DEVIL himself.

Yes, and the same people who supported him in 2011, in less than 9 months after he was sworn in (January 2012) decided to Occupy Nigeria because he removed fuel subsidy.

What sort of stup*d support is that?

Curiously, it was after Occupy Nigeria, that subsidy payments ballooned to 25-50% our budget annually.

The same people who claimed to have supported him in 2011 were blind to the improvements that were happening under him. They called it paper achievements. Today, they are clamoring for those same paper achievements.

Things like the containment of Ebola that seemed so easy under the man were all dismissed because they claimed they wanted a Singapore.

A person who voted for GEJ in 2011 and voted for Buhari in 2015 is worse than someone who voted Buhari in 2011 and voted for Buhari in 2015. The former has a damaged cerebrum. The latter doesn't have one.

An example of someone who supported GEJ in 2011 and didn't in 2015 is Ameachi. Yet in 2015, it is on record that Ameachi confessed to not knowing that trains operated in Nigeria. It is on record.

This is the meaning of incompetence:

"not having or showing the necessary skills to do something successfully."

That cannot be said of GEJ. GEJ was not incompetent. You could argue that he didn't do enough, but anyone with a shroud of decency and objectivity can actually point to reasons why.

Nigeria's budget in each of GEJ's 5 years was N4 trillion. We used an average of N1.2 trillion for subsidy. He used N1.8 trillion plus for ONLY salaries. He was left to use N1 trillion for the fight against Boko Haram (using dispirited troops, a defense hierarchy inundated with saboteurs, and a ravaged region that didn't support the war); infrastructure; boost the economy; pay other recurrent overheads, such as funding the universities, hospitals, research institutes and the likes; as well as other expenditures too numerous to mention.

Yet he was able to build more universities, expand the transmission and generating electrical capacity, rehabilitate tens of thousands of kilometers of road, revitalize the rail sector, rapidly increase our food sufficiency capability thanks to the agricultural revolutions, grow our economy by an average of 6% and reduce inflation rate; amongst several other achievements.

Anyone who says GEJ is incompetent is M*D! Very M*D!

-Lord

It was a mistake to argue with you. You are deluded and not in tune with reality. In your words nothing is wrong with Jonathan and was the best thing that could have happened to Nigeria.
GEJ was a disaster. That's why he was booted out of office.
Buhari... He is a disaster and he will be booted out of office too.

Stop using Buhari's failure to measure GEJ performance. Against good standard both of them are failures.

Governance is about us,Nigerians, and not about GEJ and PMB.
For almost 20years after democracy, what do we have to show for it.NOTHING

What changed in 2014/2015 was unbridled hate for GEJ.

As most Buhari supporters turned critics often say, 2015 was all about removing GEJ, not electing Buhari. You can't call that a mistake. That is premeditated wickedness.

For the hate of GEJ, millions lined up to elect:

Let me ask you these questions.

Why did they hate GEJ in 2014?
Those who hated him in 2014 didn't they support in 2011?
Why did they hate him?
Agreed PMB is incompetent? But Was GEJ not incompetent?
