Politics / Re: We Can't Cancel Rivers And Akwa Ibom Results - INEC by BigBenoski(m): 9:20am On Apr 14, 2015
There is a pattern in all these... the APC and the international community are desperate to claim these two states because of oil. Nobody cares about the violence recorded in abia and Imo, nobody is saying anything about the wanton shootings in ebonyi and nobody gives a rat's ass about the under age voting in the north. These APC guys and the US just want to set this country ablaze. How do they imagine that the Rivers people will vote amaechi's candidate after what happened to GEJ?. All over pH, people are mad at amaechi.. they hold him responsible for GEJ's loss. And akwa ibom? how do they even begin to imagine that the candidate of the best governor in this country will loose an election in his state?? dem no like better thing? the plan if the APC is to use propaganda to cancel these elections and have buhari's govt rig it on their behalf later..it's about the oil. Let me use this opportunity to plead with them to let these states be for peace sake. I'm not a politician but I'm a pH resident and I understand how important peace is in this part of the country. APC, please don't take us back to 2006...learn from GEJ

@op:A good read but when next you write a fictitious story, do some research so your story could have a touch of reality. There are too many holes in the story

1. Maria delis Angeles aired on nta 1998/99 and there was no 3310 in naija then.
2. In this time period.... The time of 3310, you couldn't have bought a SIM card for 200 naira..... The anachronism in the whole story is overpowering. But I enjoyed the humor... You've got a great imagination.

Unfortunately, as there is no grant or supporting scheme in Nigeria, only the comfortable ones attain to this level, a poor person can not get there no matter how educationally smart s/he is or how much desire s/he has

This is not entirely true. There are few funding opportunities here in Nigeria though you'd have to collaborate with your supervisor (assuming you are not a lecturer already) to qualify for most of them. Aside that, who says you can't apply to international organisations for funding as a Nigerian student?

Ikengawo:
So when BBC was showing American jumping from the burning towers 9/11, how many Americans used the footage as an chance to play politics or attack their country and it's president?

The reason APC isn't going anywhere is because it plays the politics of hate. It's ok to be against GEJ but when you HATE him, you're not going to be able to think straight. Meanwhile like him or not he doesn't hate anyone, and this is why he's winning in all political endeavors.

Nigeria is emerging as the undisputed heavyweight in africa and west africa in particular. This isn't in allegiance to western interests. Dangote is pushing the French La Farge out of francophone countries, Nigeria has led the way in the CIV crisis, and more and more africans are buying Nigerian goods, not western.

It's not ironic that when Nigeria hosts the second largest WEF in human history, larger than the one it's own colonial ruler Britain hosts, CNN turned up the volume on Boko Haram.
it's not ironic that when Nigeria goes to Burkina Faso to show leadership in stabilizing that country, CNN turns up the volume on Boko Haram.
It's not ironic that Obama has gone to Ghana and not Nigeria.

It's not about GEJ for them. If Buhari and Shekau were president they would get the same politics because they're not against GEJ they're against NIGERIA and it's raise as a black and free world power.

Unfortunately those that play the politics of hate open the front door to them.
When South Africa steals our money for a government authorized and legal arms purchase against terrorists...those that play the politics of hate use it to attack the one they hate
When terrorist kill Nigerians, the politics of hate make in a GEJ issue and not a Boko Haram issue.

CNN is not going to convince me to be ashamed of my country. They have no right to meddle in our politics. If you're angry at your brother, as APC is angry at GEJ, and someone from another town comes to town to fight your brother, you must aid your brother first and foremost. You can't join outsiders in trying to embarrass and destroy your family name even if you're family is doing something you disagree with. When you're home you can discuss your issues but an attack on your family name is an attack on your family name.

Anywhere you go in the world you're a Nigerian. Never forget that. It is with you like your sir name and won't go anywhere. When you die it will be Nigerians that mourn you..not CNN.

u guys are getting the whole thing twisted. The plant doesnt produce gold. It has the ability to extract/accumulate gold from a soil with gold particles...its called a hyperaccumulator. Phytomining (the use of plants to mine metals) is not a new technology, just that it is not economically viable albeit, its environmentally friendly. The only new thing in this research is the fact that, to the best of my knowledge, there are no known natural hyperaccumulators/phytoextractors of gold because gold does not dissolve in water so, for plants to absorb it, u have to induce its solubility by adding chelating agents like ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid. Kudos to them for finding a natural accumulator. Bros, in a nutshell, if u plant that tree for ur village, u no go see 'kpishikom' gold for the leave because there is no gold in ur village. Lol

There’s a deceptively still body of water in Tanzania with a deadly secret — it turns any animal it touches to stone. The rare phenomenon is caused by the chemical makeup of the lake, but the petrified creatures it leaves behind are straight out of a horror film.

Photographed by Nick Brandt in his new book, Across the Ravaged Land, petrified creatures pepper the area around the lake due to its constant pH of 9 to 10.5 — an extremely basic alkalinity that preserves these creatures for eternity.

According to Brandt:

I unexpectedly found the creatures — all manner of birds and bats — washed up along the shoreline of Lake Natron in Northern Tanzania. No-one knows for certain exactly how they die, but it appears that the extreme reflective nature of the lake’s surface confuses them, and like birds crashing into plate glass windows, they crash into the lake. The water has an extremely high soda and salt content, so high that it would strip the ink off my Kodak film boxes within a few seconds. The soda and salt causes the creatures to calcify, perfectly preserved, as they dry.

I took these creatures as I found them on the shoreline, and then placed them in ‘living’ positions, bringing them back to ‘life’, as it were. Reanimated, alive again in death.

Howz a pH range of 9-10.5 'an extremely basic alkalinity that preserves creatures for eternity'?? OP, i know so many microbes that would dance etighi in such pH media

Religion / Sacrilege: Robbers Invade Anambra Churches, Cart Away Valuables by BigBenoski(m): 6:57am On Sep 29, 2013
Archbishop declares prayer warfare
■Return your loot or face the consequences, cleric warns hoodlums

From ALOYSIUS ATTAH, Onitsha

This is not the best of times for churches and clergymen in Anambra State. Call it signs of the end tme and one is not far from the truth. Hitherto, sacred places often dreaded even by the insane are now targets of daredevil robbers. There is a slogan right now in the state which says “one Sunday, one church robbery”.
In the last two weeks in Anambra State, armed robbers have invaded about three churches at odd hours leaving sorrow and tears in their trail. The Catholic Archbishop of Onitsha, Most Rev. Valerian Okeke, worried over the unusual development, has initiated a prayer programme in the archdiocese for the repentance of criminals who are harassing and attacking churches in Onitsha and beyond. The Archbishop has enjoined the faithful to say the prayers with dedication and commitment so that robbery attacks in the parishes will end.
First to host the unwanted visitors was St. John of the Cross Catholic Church, Egbo, Uruagu, Nnewi. The robbers had stormed the parish rectory about 1 am on Sunday night and held the priest and other residents hostage for over one hour. At the end of the invasion, they made away with an unspecified amount of cash and a bus belonging to the parish choir.
According to sources, the robbers numbering about 10 gained access to the main building by cutting the burglary proof bars on one of the windows in the parlour. They had earlier tied the hands of the security men before they went to the place where drivers and seminarians were sleeping, meted the same treatment to them and went further to collect the car keys and proceeded to the area where the parish priest and other priests were staying.
When they entered they saw a priest and ordered him to show them the parish priest’s flat and he complied immediately. Finding it difficult to enter through the door, they gained access through the ceiling. The robbers immediately pointed their guns at the parish priest, barking orders at him to bring all the money in the house including the Sunday offering. The priest surrendered everything to them.
Sunday Sun learnt that while the robbers were carrying on with their evil operations, two of the drivers succeeded in untying themselves and escaped. They were said to have informed one of the parishioners around who quickly phoned the police at the Nnewi Central Police Station but the police never responded till the robbers finished and left the scene.
The Parish Priest , Very Rev. Fr. Peter Ezeani, while narrating his ordeal, confirmed that seven of the armed robbers entered his room armed with AK47 and pump action rifles. He said they collected all the valuables in the house including cash.
While the Nnewi incident was still fresh, another robbery incident was reported at Holy Trinity Parish, Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The robbers were said to have stormed the church compound at 3:00 am ransacking all the rooms for about one and half hours.
Though some of the priests residing in the parish were away on ministerial engagements when the bandits struck, the robbers reportedly had ample time to cart away laptops, ipads and an undisclosed amount of money.
The same night, the marauders swooped on the clergymen at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nnokwa in Idemili South Local Government. Their style of operation was almost similar to the siege at Ogidi thereby fueling suspicion that it was the same gang that operated in the two parishes.

‘Return your loot or face the consequences’
Apparently irked by the unusual boldness of the robbers who struck sacred places, one of the resident priests at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ogidi, Very Rev. Fr. Basil Gbuzue has called on the gang of robbers who stormed the church premises to return the stolen items or be ready to face the wrath of God.
Fr. Gbuzue who is the Spiritual Director, Mountain of Solution Catholic Adoration Ministry, Nkpor, Anambra State said the robbers were lucky that he was not around the night they broke into the rectory.
“Those hungry criminals were lucky that I was not around. Had it been that they met me, they won’t have any option than to surrender and confess their past escapades. I would have loved to be there when the criminals arrived so that they will experience the efficacy of prayers and the word of God. You cannot steal my property and get away with it just like that since the consequences of perpetuating such evil will last for eternity,” he said.
The cleric, popularly known as Man pass Man also disclosed his readiness to pardon the hoodlums provided they return their loot. He commended the Archbishop for initiating the prayer programme and called on other parishes that have experienced the same trauma to take heart, remain steadfast and be vigilant.
Fr. Gbuzue also said Governor Peter Obi should in collaboration with the security agencies initiate more strategies to checkmate the activities of criminals attacking churches.
Commenting on the ugly development, a Knight of the Catholic Church, Sir Fidel Onuekwusi described the situation as the manifestations of the country’s eroded value system. He noted that even insane people respected sacred places but today people commit all sorts of sacrilegious acts in the society without minding the repercussions. He reminded evildoers that nemesis and retribution are coming and they should also be mindful of the biblical injunction saying “Touch not my anointed and do my prophets no harm.”

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Emeka Chukwuemeka in a chat with Sunday Sun confirmed that the command was aware of the latest tactics robbers were deploying in the state but assured that security of lives and property remained the priority of the police. He said the command had recorded several breakthroughs in crime prevention and detection and would never relent.

Politics / Anambra: Crisis As Ngige Emerges APC Consensus Candidate by BigBenoski(m): 7:46am On Aug 23, 2013
By EYA WILLY, Lagos and FRED ITUA, Abuja

As the clock ticks toward the November 16 governorship race in Anambra State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is mired in confusion over who picks its ticket.

The development came following the presentation of Senator Chris Ngige as the consensus candidate of the party in the forthcoming election by leaders of the party in Abuja, yesterday.

The adoption of Ngige came about as the South-East interim Deputy Chairman, Senator Annie Okonkwo, who was in the race for the governorship ticket, stepped down for Ngige.

Announcing the withdrawal of Senator Okonkwo, during a meeting of leaders of APC, Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State revealed that his decision to step down for Ngige was borne out of the spirit of brotherhood geared towards moving the party forward.

Okorocha also revealed that Senator Okonkwo would lead the campaign of Senator Ngige as they prepare to take over Anambra State.

Okorocha said: “We have the masses and I can assure you that victory is guaranteed for APC in Anambra State. Today, I want to present to you one of the people who is the initiators of this merger. His name is Annie Okonkwo. He will go down in history as that man who rose up from the East and ensured that the Igbo are part of this merger.

“We have resolved and agreed that there will be primaries in Anambra, in accordance with our party regulations and constitution. In his magnanimity, Senator Annie Okonkwo will lead the governorship campaign of Senator Chris Ngige. Our party is a party of unity. Our mission is one. Our mission is to save the lives of numerous Nigerians while saving the lives of the poor Nigerians.”

Okorocha warned that the party must put its house in order and use Anambra governorship poll as a litmus test towards future elections in the country.

“For the South-East and for Anambra elections, there is no cause for alarm. Anambra election will be the test case for APC. It will be the first stage for APC. Therefore, this party must do all it can to deliver Anambra for APC,” Okorocha warned.

The Imo governor further warned the party to de-emphasise religion and ethnicity that have been associated with APC to garner the support of Nigerians.

“Our victory in 2015 has been signed, sealed and delivered,” Okorocha said, adding: “To do so, we must unite. To unite, we must de-emphasise ethnicity and religion in APC.

“We must ensure that our presidential candidate, governors and local government chairmen are men of integrity and not based on where they are from. Let him who is competent rule this country irrespective of where the person comes from.

“Leaders must not be chosen on the basis of their religion, but on what they can do. For so many years, we have celebrated failure and ignorance in Nigeria. APC is a child of circumstance. Nigerians are waiting anxiously for this party. We must not fail them,” he added.

Meanwhile, Daily Sun can authoritatively reveal that Governor Okorocha was instrumental to the presentation of Ngige as the consensus candidate of APC in Anambra.

It was gathered that Okorocha, in what seemed a political masterstroke, had single-handedly taken it upon himself to ensure that there’s not only primaries to pick the governorship candidate for APC in Anambra but also to have Ngige as the sole aspirant.

Sources revealed that Okorocha had met with the aspirants in the party, who were campaigning to be the candidate on Tuesday night and persuaded them to step down for Ngige. It was learnt that the aspirants refused, insisting that there should be primaries to pick the candidate and that if Ngige won they would accept the result.

Daily Sun learnt that yesterday morning, before the commencement of APC meeting, Okorocha also tried to get the aspirants to accept his proposal for them to step down for Ngige. Again, the aspirants refused.

At the meeting, it was gathered, he seized the opportunity of addressing the gathering to announce that other candidates had stepped down. Reports stated that the governor spoke after Senator Okonkwo agreed to step down. The announcement had created confusion in the meeting, which was attended by only a few leaders of the party.

Reacting to the emergence of Senator Ngige as the consensus candidate, one of the aspirants on the platform of the APC, Godwin Ezeemo, described it as the wishful thinking of Okorocha.

He said the Imo governor would not be allowed to become an overlord in an election that concerns people of Anambra State.

His words: “Governor Rochas Okorocha is not from Anambra State and he would not be allowed to become an overlord in an exercise that is for the people of Anambra State.

“As far as I am concerned, the announcement of Senator Ngige as the consensus candidate of the APC in Anambra is complete falsehood. It is merely the wishful thinking of one man in the person of Rochas Okorocha,” he said.

Ezeemo said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not recognise consensus arrangements, insisting that there must be primaries for the aspirants running on the platform of the APC in Anambra State.

He said before now, leaders of the party had all agreed that there must be a level playing field for all the aspirants and maintained that nothing short of primaries would be accepted by his teeming supporters.

He stated: “When did Rochas Okorocha become a native of Anambra State and somebody that would now dictate what happens to people of the state. We are going to resist any imposition in the coming election because that is not what the constitution says.”

Efforts made to get Senator Okonkwo’s reaction proved abortive. Calls to his mobile phone were not picked. Also a text message sent to him was not replied.

When the interim spokesperson of APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed was contacted to clear the air over the emergence of Senator Ngige as the consensus candidate, he declined comments, saying Daily Sun reporter was at the Abuja meeting.

But in his text message to Daily Sun, Senator Ngige said: “I thank our party’s leadership and party men, my co-aspirants, especially Senator Annie Okonkwo for the honour, and for finding me a fit person to fly our new party’s flag for the upcoming Anambra governorship election, while Senator Annie Okonkwo will lead the campaign to victory.”

Religion / Gay Activists Forces Donnie Mcclurkin To Withdraw From Martin Luther's Concert by BigBenoski(m): 9:00am On Aug 17, 2013
Donnie McClurkin Withdraws from MLK Gig at Mayor’s Request

Donnie McClurkin*At the request of D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray, gospel singer Donnie McClurkin, who has said God delivered him from “the curse” of homosexuality, withdrew as a performer at a city-sponsored concert on Saturday night, Aug. 10, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

McClurkin’s withdrawal from the event, which is being organized by the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities, came one day after local gay activist and longtime civil rights advocate Phil Pannell called the gospel singer’s public statements on homosexuality “vile.”

Pannell and other LGBT activists said McClurkin’s participation in the event would be at odds with King’s call for ending discrimination and injustice against all people.

“The Mayor directed the D.C. Commission on the Arts and Humanities to ask Donnie McClurkin to withdraw,” Gray spokesperson Doxie McCoy told the Washington Blade in an email. “No disrespect to Mr. McClurkin, but Mayor Gray thought it best that he withdraw from the concert in the name of not having his appearance to be a distraction at an event about peace, love and justice for all,” McCoy said.

In a separate statement, Commission Executive Director Lionell Thomas said, “So that Donnie’s participation did not become a distraction from the goals of the program, a mutual decision was reached between the DCCAH and his management team that it was best for him to withdraw from the event.”

In statements in press interviews and at his concerts throughout the country, McClurkin, a Grammy Award winning musician, emerged as one of the lead figures in the so-called “ex-gay” movement beginning in 2007. On at least one appearance he compared being gay to a drug addiction and said it was God’s plan that gays should change their sexual orientation.

When challenged by gay activists and others who dispute claims that someone can change their sexual orientation, McClurkin fired back at his critics.

“Don’t tell me that I stand up and say vile words against the gay community because I don’t,” CNN quoted him as saying at an October 2007 concert for then-U.S. Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. “I don’t speak against homosexuality. I tell you that God delivered me from homosexuality.”

The concert at the King Memorial at 8 p.m. Saturday was entitled “Reflections on Peace: From Gandhi to King.” It’s the first in a series of events scheduled to take place in D.C. over the next two weeks to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1963 March on Washington for civil rights at which King delivered his famous “I Have A Dream” speech.
