Assalamu alaikum.
I strongly advise you not to take the Job. Working in an organisation dealing with interest is forbidden in islam. The prophet (SWA) Has said that snakes and scorpion will be created in the stomach of whoever is feeding from Riba in the day of judment.
May Allah forgive me for working in a bank for 3years. 6 years after leaving the bank job because of better job elsewhere, i am still regreting my decision. I am still praying for forgiveness from God.
Many muslim may be working in a bank, but that does not mean is Halal. Just see it as a trial and God will provide you with even better Job.

Foreign AffairsPoorest President’ Donates 90% Of His Salary- President Of Uruguay by bigbish(op): 12:21pm On Sep 21, 2012
...........How's this as a man of the people: The president of Uruguay, José Mujica, has earned a nickname, "el presidente mas pobre" (translation: "poorest president"wink.

The 77-year-old recently admitted to the Spanish newspaper El Mundo that he donates almost all of his presidential salary, making him the poorest, or, as Univision pointed out, most generous president, in the world.

El presidente explained he receives $12,500 a month but keeps only $1,250. The public servant told the newspaper, "I do fine with that amount; I have to do fine because there are many Uruguayans who live with much less."

He and his wife—a senator who also donates part of her salary—live in a farmhouse in Montevideo. His biggest expense is his Volkswagen Beetle, valued at $1,945.

Perhaps not surprisingly, under the former guerrilla fighter, who was elected in 2010 as a member of the left-wing coalition, the Broad Front, the country has become known for being one of the least corrupt on the continent.

Mujica has no bank accounts and no debt, and he enjoys one thing money can't buy: the companionship of his dog, Manuela.

The Uruguayan is not the first president to donate his salary. U.S. President John F. Kennedy, who came from wealth, donated his salary when in office, as did President Herbert Hoover. Hoover, who grew up poor, decided to never accept money for public service, so he could not be accused of corruption.

PoliticsNigerian Leaders Most Corrupt In The World -jega by bigbish(op): 12:23pm On Sep 24, 2010
Those in various leadership positions in the country are the most corrupt in the world, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, has said. Delivering a paper on credible leadership at a public lecture organised by the ECKANKAR yesterday, Jega said: “There is perhaps no other country in the world where power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely as in Nigeria. Our consistent or persistent ranking on the global corruption index testifies to this.”
He also said: “If the truth is to be told, with very few exceptions, our crop of leaders have essentially been self-serving rulers, some even despots and not leaders in the true sense of the word.

“They have generally lacked vision, focus and selflessness and even enlightened self-interest. Many in leadership positions are unimaginably corrupt, they are greedy, they are vindictive, they are reckless and in many fundamental respects, senseless. Virtually whoever has access to power attempts to abuse it, ”

Jega said there is absence of transparency in the manner which leaders govern the country.

“Many Nigerian public officials, whether elected or appointed, have tended to exude not only power, but also corruption, with impunity. This is manifest in the way they walk, talk, dress and generally conduct themselves.”

He tasked Nigerians on the need to ease corrupt leaders out of the system to evolve credible leadership for development of the country.

He said: “All of our country’s ills, trials and tribulations, both politically and socio-economically, can be squarely attributed to lack of transparency and accountability and the corruption that these have engendered.”

But reacting to Jega’s presentation, Minister of Women Affairs, Iyom Josephine Anenih, said the poor leadership in the country is a reflection of bad citizenry.

According to her, “there is no leader in Nigeria today that is not under pressure to steal to satisfy greedy relatives and friends. How can we have credible leaders without credible citizenry? The only way we can have credible leaders is to have credible followers who will not collect money to vote for bad leaders.”

Jega disagreed with the minister’s position saying, “to me the challenge of leadership is to do the right thing even if it is unpopular. I cannot see the basis for a leader to steal money to satisfy the followers. It is not right to succumb to such pressure. You may become unpopular, you may not be elected again, but you must ensure that the right things are done.”

He said there is need for faith- based organisations to remain neutral on political issues and to sustain inter-faith dialogue in the society.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Hitv Loses English Premier League Right by bigbish(op): 8:36am On Jul 23, 2010
Nigeria’s pay TV company, HiTV, has controversially lost the lucrative English Premier League (EPL) broadcast rights in Nigeria to Multichoice/DSTV beginning from the 2010-2011 season kicking off next month.

THISDAY sources said despite paying $40 million for the content value of the first of the three seasons which it won last year, EPL insisted on bank guarantees for the remaining two seasons.

HiTV was given a deadline of last Monday, but, according to an inside source, “the new processes put in place because of the banking reform meant we could not get the guarantees ready by the Monday, July 19 deadline, but we had letters from Nigerian banks which said the guarantees would be ready by Friday (today)”.

However, DSTV announced yesterday that it had acquired the Nigerian broadcast right to the Premiership for the next three seasons.  It held the right until three seasons ago when HiTV arrived on the scene.

Adewunmi Ogunsanya, chairman of MultiChoice Nigeria, SuperSport’s parent company, said he was delighted to have the premium content back on his platform, but said the focus would still remain the growing of the domestic league, a project his company embarked upon two years ago after they lost the Barclay right to their local rival.

“We are happy to welcome back the English Premier League onto the DStv platform in Nigeria, to stand alongside the other exciting international soccer coverage we already provide to our subscribers here.

“However, our focus remains firmly on showcasing home-grown talent from the Nigerian Premier League and we will continue our investments in this regard.

“As a Nigerian business that is committed to providing our growing subscriber community across Nigeria with the world’s best channels and programming, we are pleased that SuperSport are able to take up the opportunity when it presented itself, to ensure that fans of this league will not miss any action from it.”

A dependable source at HiTV confirmed the development, saying that it was as a result of the failure to secure a bank facility to pay for the right.

Meanwhile, SuperSport is promising even better packaging for the return of the bouquet to the MultiChoice fold. According to Ogunsanya, apart from the return coming with all 380 Barclays Premier League matches, there will be a Premier League 24-hour, seven-day-a-week content service in high definition, which will launch on August 13.

The Chief Executive Officer of SuperSport, Imtiaz Patel, added on the issue of the extra packages to accompany the return of the Barclays League content: “Nigeria will be one of the very first countries to receive the 24-hour content service and we are delighted to lead the way with our partners at the Premier League, and associates in Nigeria.”

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Scudamore added: “We are pleased to extend our partnership with SuperSport into Nigeria and are confident they will continue to deliver a premium product that will showcase the Barclays Premier League to our many fans in the territory.”

The Barclays Premier League is the biggest continuous annual sporting event in the world; followed by more than 2.5 billion fans in the world and broadcast to more than 500 million home

Nairaland GeneralHitv Wins 100% English League Rights For Three Seasons (2010-2013) by bigbish(op): 3:25pm On Nov 19, 2009
Nigeria’s pay TV company, HiTV, has won the exclusive broadcast rights for the Barclays Premier league for 2010-2013 seasons. The company won the rights for the Nigerian territory in a highly competitive bid Thursday last week. The company, which has in the past two seasons held the majority broadcast rights to the league, did not however disclose the amount it paid for the new deal. It currently screens eight out of 10 matches every week, leaving one as free-to-air while Multichoice screens one or two matches via DStv. This development, however, means HiTV will now have exclusive pay TV rights to broadcast the championship in the country. This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Football Association Premier League, Mr Richard Scudamore. Chief Executive Officer of the Hi Media Group, Mr. Toyin Subair, said: “We have been awarded the television, mobile and Internet rights for another three seasons – 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13. The Premier League did not break up the rights into two separate packages like the previous seasons but bundled all the matches into one package which we won. As such, HiTV now owns 100 per cent of the rights.” Explaining further, he said: “Over the last two years, we have been broadcasting the Premier League live to Nigerians in the comfort of their homes at a price they can afford. Nigerians can now look forward to another four years of continued qualitative enjoyment of premium soccer. HiTV can also now consolidate on its achievements, grow its subscriber base further and build an even more sustainable business. HiTV is also now better positioned to help brands, advertisers and marketing agencies who want to take a long-term perspective towards using soccer as a launch pad and/or platform for their brands.” Aside from conventional contractual obligations especially related to payment of rights fees, THISDAY learnt that there are no unusual conditions attached to the rights. Also speaking, the Chief Operating Officer of the Hi Media Group, Mr. Olumide Amure, stated that HiTV subscribers “should be on the lookout for more value-added services such as mobile downloads, opportunities to watch the matches on the Internet, travel to watch their teams play live in stadiums, visit their teams dressing rooms and even have interviews with their favourite players.” HiTV won the rights to broadcast the world’s most popular football league in 2006 beginning from the 2007-08 session, dislodging Multichoice which had held the broadcast rights for the African continent.

PoliticsOnly Military Can Conduct Free And Fair Polls In Nigeria -iwu by bigbish(op): 11:59am On Aug 14, 2009
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Maurice Iwu, has said only the military can conduct free and fair elections in the country.
The INEC boss spoke Thursday at a public hearing on a bill to establish a Commission to register political parties in Nigeria .
“If we had dictatorship, we would have a free and fair elections; the elections that Nigerians have endorsed and craved for, were organised under the military. The fact that it was organised by the military makes it undemocratic.
“Democratic elections are never flawless. They have problems. And we have to be able to know that the whole process of democratisation includes the noise. Includes all that we are here for, and we should bear that in mind”, he said.
The Chairman of the National Conscience Party, NCP and the President of West Africa Bar Association (WABA), Mr. Femi Falana, said unless the Constitution and the INEC is “completely” independent of political manipulations, there would never be free and fair elections in the country.
He regretted that Nigeria has continued to be a byword for fraudulent elections in Africa and the world.
“Elections in Nigeria have become a perennial source of colossal embarrassment for the country. Nigeria has become a reference point in the world, when it comes to bad elections. I, therefore, appeal to you, to put sentiments apart, and save the country, so that democracy can be strengthened, because if what happened in 2007 is repeated in 2011, we pray that we do not go into war.
“If the electoral body so structured cannot conduct election in 1/3 of a state like Ekiti, you can imagine what will happen in 2011. Ten thousand soldiers were deployed, not to talk of percentage of soldiers deployed. Imagine doing that in 36 states at the same time, we are asking that this amendment we are proposing be accepted,”he added.
Falana, who used Ghana as an example of credibility in the electoral process, recalled that the country’s ex-President, Mr. John Kuffor, could not manipulate the process to sponsor his candidate even when he was leading by 47.3 per cent (just a little short of the 50 per cent requirement) as against his opponent’s 43 per cent, the president didn’t summon INEC “to help” with the results.
