Now I see you're either an ignoramus or a half baked literate at best
What do you mean by leave the messenger and deal with the messagewhat do you know about the immunity clause. It's purely suicidal to canvass for a blanket removal of the immunity clause as governors and all other public officials will no longer have time for their job but will rather be in and out of the courts day in,day out.
What we should call for is an amendment of the immunity clause to only cover protection from civil suit, while protection from criminal suits that pertain to murder, embezzlement of funds etc should be discarded

BTW;Begging the question has never been the solution to any problem,so be objective and admit that your lord goofed

Genbuhari3,There is no point in joining issues with people who are intellectually disabled. Can we please focus on the important job at hand which is making sure that come April Change will come to Nigeria.Vote BB2011

yesterday i regretted being a Nigeria! I hid my face in shame to know that I am a Nigeria. This topic being on the front page of nairaland makes me sick. Corruption today in Nigeria has become a norm. it is celebrated by the high and the low. as long as you have money, irrespective of how you got it, you are celebrated. Seeing the event live on AIT yesterday confirmed one thing; this country is doomed. No apologies. Why AIT networks decided to transmit that event live remains a mystery. How on earth can anyone rationalise the fact that thousands of people lined the streets of Lagos chanting and celebrating a man who is forever an ex convint? A man who stole an squandered billions of the nations money. I weep. worse, the church had to organise a thanksgiving for him! What are they thanking God for? My one kobo thought? PDP and all those who participated in that sacrilege of a celebration have demonstrated to the whole world that corruption is synonymous to Nigeria and Nigerians!

I feel your pain and anger too.

You have the opportunity come April to end this sacrilege.Vote and campaign for BB2011.

BB2011,Lets vote for Change.

Again we cannot go on blaming PDP for it utter brigandage and tragedy of the past 12yrs.It is a know fact. The question is,What have we done to change it? It is time to take a stand,It is time to say enough is enough. It is time to bid farewell to PDP.It is time for change.

Let us not waste this opportunity to bring change to Nigeria.Vote BB2011.

Last time I checked, the elections are in April not tomorrow

Team BB start their campaign on Monday the 28th.

All I ask Team BB supporters to do is that they do their bit. Let us all campaign.

Even if its one person you can convince to vote for BB2011 come April, do it!

Even if its one poster of Team BB2011 you can print and paste on your gate at home, do it!

On the bus, in our offices, in school, whereever we find ourselves, let us not stop talking, let us not stop spreading the news.

Spot on.People are tired of the status quo. Some of GEJ supporters are getting desperate and are now trying to position GEJ as agent of change. Why are they so desperate? Why are they running scared now?.They don't seem to understand what is happening in the past few days.Nigerians cannot be hoodwinked anymore. We simply cannot afford another 4yrs of illusions, lies, half truth, deceit chicanery and unbridled corruption.

Nigerians are going to see the biggest mobilization ever for BB2011.Change has come to Nigeria.

GEJ HAS NOTHING GOOD TO OFFER NIGERIA!

GOSH! I HATE PDP LIKE COCKROACH!

That is the point I have been making the whole day.BB2011 is stirring up first time voters, people who ordinary will give the polling station a long berth on election day.

Nigerians let us mobilize massively and vote with our conscience and vote for the future of this country.Seriously GEJ took over power over a year now and what has he got to show for it,Absolutely nothing. It has been more of the same.I am from the south and should be supporting him but In all honesty and sincerity nothing is gonna change with him as president.Just look at the people behind him,eg Anthony Anenih.infact that is enough for any discerning Nigeria to work out that he is not serious and sincere.

Lets end this PDP quagmire once and for all.

Seriously anybody calling this election for GEJ is in for a big surprise come April.I posted a link about BB2011 on my facebook yesterday and when I checked a few minutes ago 75 people liked it and shared it on to their friends. These are people including may that would not have in a million years have anything to do with Buhari or Bakare based on primordial sentiments.

I believe in their ability to bring change ,Change need to come to Nigeria. The most exciting thing about BB 2011 is that they are pulling people like me whom normally would have shown great indifference and contempt to any election in Nigeria

BB2011 Campaign is gathering momentum every minute and its turning into an avalanche,GEJ will not know what hit him come April.Folks nothing has changed in PDP,what's the difference between 6 and half dozen.

BB represents the way forward and the future for Nigeria.

Jarus:

Despite being a die-hard Buharist, I agree with your analysis. I like the fact that despite being a GEJ supporter you admit Buhari is gaining popularity, while you also admit GEJ is losing votes. The most ingenious part was your observation that many people are switching camps from Ribadu to Buhari. The only area I disagree is where you said after being given 1000 the almajiris will vote for GEJ. No, they will collect GEJ's money and vote for Buhari.
In summary I agree with you that if elections are conducted today, GEJ stands a very high chance based on the points you highlighted, but I believe the situation can still be remedied. Hurricane Buhari is spreading at alarming rate. We are hopeful.

I have made this point this morning in another post and I will repeat it here.I am based outside Nigeria and was in Nigeria to register during the last voters registration with the intention of voting for Ribadu but changed my mind a few days ago and I will be in my village a week before election day canvassing  for votes for BB( THE CHOICE OF REGISTERING IN MY VILLAGE IS STRATEGIC)No police or INEC officials will try any rubbish.I did say that I have never voted in an election before based on i don't care ,am not bothered,am well off,but things need to change in Nigeria,We need to move this country forward.Nigeria has got so much potential and PDP has being nothing but an unmitigated disaster for Nigeria in every aspect.

I strongly believe that BB has so much potential to move this country forward. That is why am spending my own money doing this,BB does not need to come to my village to campaign, with me they have got my vote with the other 17 votes of my family and Dependants plus the other people I exert influence on in my village. These are votes that GEJ can never buy or steal and I am strongly urging other people of the same conviction whether your in Nigeria or Abroad to do the same, that will surely go a long way to mitigate the so perceived lack of adequate campaign of BB.Make sure you vote on election day and make sure your vote counts.

When I go through post and articles on NL or elsewhere,am so amazed at the level of intelligence  and sophistication shown  and possessed by Nigerian youths, the quality of discussions etc.Now we need to extend that to this election,Elections could be won on NL  grin,I got on the BB bandwagon a few days ago after reading his campaign manifesto some one posted on NL and listening to Bakare via a link somebody posted on NL,thats 17 votes plus for BB from me via NL,and I believe many  more from others on NL,So go figure.

This election  to me is not about who is more popular,Who has got more money,Who has campaigned in every village and hamlet in Nigeria, rather it is about our earnest desire as Nigerians for a better future,Desire to maximize and  fulfill our potentials as human beings,Our desire to root out corruption in our country, our desire to secure the future of our children and our desire for change. The time is now,Lets make the change.BB 2011 Change we can believe in.

Guy you are doing a wonderful work. I am exited because more people seem to have come to the true realization of whom our enemies are in this country. PDP and every of its elements must be put to shame. All good people should come out of the party. All the corrupt elements that made mess of the party I supported by 1999 must be punished one day. They cannot go free after wasting 12 years out of our life.

As for Buhari and Bakare, I will work with all my strength for them. Not because I love them but because I love my country Nigeria and also because I want a future for my generation and those after us.

UP BB

Brilliant. This will be the first election that I will be participating in,After looking at all the candidates i believe with all honest and sincerity that BB has what it takes to move this country forward.Another thing i must reiterate here just like somebody highlighted earlier on his post,i have one vote plus about 17 other votes that i am controlling as per my Dependants whom I know that i can positively influence, that is 18 votes for BB.This should be where we can focus on,those who can not be in Nigeria on election day and have positive influence over your families should make sure that all these votes are channeled towards BB.I will be canvasing votes for BB and voting for them in my Village, and after voting I will stay around to make sure that my vote counts.Nigerian youths it is time for fundamental soul searching and self introspection on how we can move this country that has got massive potential forward. It is time for change and this is a change that i believe in.BB2011.

Sagamite:

Sorry, I couldn't resist. This is an extract of the exchanges of email when I replied him. grin grin grin

Yes, demand is outstripping supply.

Hence property owners (suppliers) are maximising on how much they are requesting as they have a wide option of buyers (demanders).

So let Handsome Clever my nickname with friends cheesy break it down like it is hot.

High Demand
This is spurred by the following:
-Availability of capital to purchase properties, almost always supplied by mortgage companies Has disappeared now, hence lower demand
-Attractiveness of Capital Gains from house pricesHas disappeared now, hence lower demand
-Low interest rates
-Growing population
-Debt tolerance Is disappearing now, hence lower demand

Low Supply
This is spurred by the following:
-Favourable legislation
-Low volumes of properties
-Family formations Changing as people are now moving back with parents or staying longer b4 moving out, hence more houses to satisfy demand

As we might all know, house prices are rising fast and are almost reaching 6 times multiples of average salary. As Ola Skymy friend economist will tell you, there is some certain curve which I can't remember the name that demonstrates the threshold that you can price an item before you overprice to the point that your customer numbers would start dropping. I think house prices are reaching this levels that fewer people can afford them hence demand would stall or decrease at a point in time. If you buy just before that point, you might not gain much after you pay all the transactional costs or you might lose.

More rises might lead to:
-Mortgage capital providers refusing to back a large populace's application because their salary can not fund the mortgage (remember, salary rises is well below property rises) Damn, I was right. Now we hear of "responsible lending"

Already happening:
-Gordon Brown has already commisioned the increase in volume of properties
-Interest rates is being increased Oops! grin
-Debt levels are already being highlighted as too high, hence government might rain down on irresponsible lending (including mortgage lenders) Damn, I was right. Now we hear of "responsible lending"
-Pressure on government to act, hence we might see some policy changes that might mirror the close regulation we see in countries like France where property is not seen as much of a good investment despite the fact that they are just across the sea

All these might lead to a lower level of people demanding and a higher level of supplies hence some prices would have to come down (called bubble bursting) or stagnate. For those that have invested too heavily, there might be only marginal gain on investment at best or loss at worseDamn, I was right.. It all depends on if someone is lucky to buy at the right time and right price. This I think is not the case for most properties on sale now because due to high publicity on house prices they are already overvalued, it is due for a correctionDamn, I was right..

Also let us not forget that London being the World's financial centre is what is attracting hodes of people here. This might not be the case forever as long as the Al Qs and Osams are around or if the government get tough on financial regulation like the former World's financial centre (New York) did after 9/11. If this title moves the rise would not be as astronomical as now. But agreed that is a remote "if" for now but what I am saying is that prices can not only go up. If you are buying to live in it, it is always a good idea.

Everly,

Handsome Clever.

Your are absolutely right in all your analysis on this topic.I wouldn't even buy the house for N20 million even today.Because it is just not worth it.It is just simple ridiculous the amount some properties are be marketed in Lagos.

Guys, this news is old news -2009! Why are we discussing it now?
Though the issue (abandoned property) remains, I really don't think that now is the time to handle it. If we must handle it now, lets take it to GEJ as one of our requests from him.
The Federal Govt can solve this problem today because there is money to pay the original property owners.

Having said this, I will like to remind my Igbo brothers about facts of life.

If you must buy land outside Igboland, be sure that you will NOT leave it to ANYONE under ANY circumstance.
If you cannot make that judgment, then, DON'T BUY. This history is powerful enough.

Politics / Police Dismiss Officers For Month-long despoil Of 16-year-old by BigPhil(m): 7:00am On Dec 27, 2010
http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/News/Metro/Politics/5658165-146/police_dismiss_officers_for_month-long_rape.csp

The Kano State Police Command has dismissed two constables who abducted and raped a 16-year-old girl for one month, and demoted the police inspector who connived in the crime.

The state's Police Commissioner, Muhammad Tambari Yabo said the dismissed policemen, Yusuf Ibrahim and Salisu Mahmud were found to be the prime suspects in the rape case, while Mohammed Dantalle, the inspector, was demoted for his complicity.

Mr Yabo said the three policemen were tried and found guilty at orderly room level. He said that he personally reviewed the outcome of the orderly room trial and handed them the punishment.

He also said plans are afoot to send the case diary to the state's Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for professional advice in prosecuting the three men.

On the civilian collaborators said to be linked with the crime, the commissioner said information available to the police showed that they have fled to Lagos and Ibadan. He said the command had already declared them wanted and circulated their photographs in those areas for easy apprehension.

Mr Yabo said the three civilians actively took part in the alleged crime alongside the policemen, and there will be no hiding place for them because soon the law will catch up with them.

"We will continue to do our work with the fear of God," he said. "We hope that the measures taken against the cops will help address the concern being raised by members of the public since the matter came to limelight last month."

The 16-year-old girl, name withheld, was abducted by some policemen who were on night patrol in Kano city. She was subsequently kept in captivity for 28 days inside a room at Kwali Police Station where she was serially raped.

And people experience this everyday. Some universities have been on strike for months now,its it power supply or security of lives and property, that is readily available.

Politics / Confirmed.mend Is Responsible For The Abuja Bombing. by BigPhil(m): 3:29pm On Oct 06, 2010
This is a report from STRATFOR,on the Abuja Bombing.

Summary
More information has emerged on the Oct. 1 Independence Day bombings in Nigeria that killed at least 10 people. British and possibly U.S. intelligence agencies had reportedly warned the Nigerian State Security Service that militants may target the event and advised them to take several tactical countermeasures to secure the areas surrounding the Independence Day parade. While some of the advice was heeded, a lack of preparation by security forces likely contributed to the death toll. The attack was the work of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, but President Goodluck Jonathan (who hails from the Delta) is seeking to blame the attack on his northern opponents in the upcoming presidential election while at the same time trying to prove he can maintain control over militants from the restive region.

Analysis
Additional information has surfaced about the Oct. 1 bombings that killed 10 at least people and wounded 36 in the Nigerian capital of Abuja during a ceremony marking 50 years of Nigerian independence. British intelligence agencies reportedly warned Nigeria’s State Security Service (SSS) that an attack during the ceremony was likely, and according to a report in Nigerian newspaper The Guardian, U.S. intelligence advised Nigeria against holding the event at all. The United States also reportedly advised the SSS to use several tactical countermeasures, such as increasing the stand-off distance between the road and where dignitaries would be seated.

It appears that the SSS followed through on at least some of this advice, towing away 60-70 unattended vehicles in the area in the early morning hours before the event. It is also not unusual that the United States would advise this kind of action, as stand-off distance is a key security tool used to mitigate damage from attacks. However, Nigerian security forces were slow to establish a secure perimeter around the area where the first blast — which caused no casualties — took place. When the second device detonated in a nearby car about 10 minutes later, the majority of the casualties were curious onlookers and emergency response teams attending to the first blast.

While this lack of preparation for such a high-profile event is no doubt damaging to Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan’s reputation, more concerning to him is the fact that the attack is the work of a faction of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) loyal to Henry Okah. Okah, unlike several of MEND’s top commanders, did not buy into the federal government’s amnesty program championed by Jonathan as the way to end militancy in his home region of the Niger Delta and represents a direct challenge to the notion that Jonathan has the ability to bring peace to Nigeria’s main oil-producing region. Jonathan has thus become increasingly vocal in denying that MEND had anything to do with the attack, and on Oct. 2 accused “foreign-based terrorists” with help from people inside of Nigeria. The problem for Jonathan, however, is that MEND spokesman Jomo Gbomo issued a warning prior to the bombing and claimed responsibility afterward, and no one aside from Jonathan and his inner circle of ministers have denied MEND’s involvement.

MEND has claimed that the bombings were not intended to kill anyone and has blamed the deaths on the SSS for failing to take proper action after receiving its warning. This claim is a political statement; detonating explosives near crowds of people carries the inherent risk of killing people. Gbomo did point out in a letter that no projectiles were packed into the IEDs, but by putting the explosives in vehicles, the glass and metal from the car’s body provided plenty of shrapnel that caused injuries and fatalities. Also, the staggered detonation of the devices indicates that the perpetrators may have had a lethal intent by drawing people closer before setting the second device off — although it is possible that this staggered detonation was a mistake caused by faulty detonators or timers.

While Jonathan has claimed MEND was not responsible for the attack, Okah had his home in South Africa searched just prior to the attack, perhaps indicating that the Nigerian government had requested South African authorities look for information on the pending attack. Okah, who was arrested a day after the raid and is currently in a South African prison awaiting a court hearing on charges of terrorism, said in an Oct. 5 interview that he was contacted the morning of Oct. 2 by an aide to Jonathan. Okah claims he was asked to urge MEND to retract its claim of responsibility so Jonathan could blame his northern political opponents (namely former military leader and presidential candidate Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida). Okah claims he was promised that he would have no legal problems in connection with the attacks if he were to comply and was arrested after he refused. This occurred on the same day that Jonathan blamed “foreign-based terrorists” operating with the support of Nigerian citizens for the attack, rather than MEND. However, it is impossible to confirm that Jonathan or his aide actually made this offer.

The allegation has undermined the already tense relationship between northerners and southerners in Nigeria’s ruling People’s Democratic Party. On Oct. 4, Babangida’s campaign manager, Raymond Dokpesi, was questioned in connection with the attack. Nigerian authorities said Dokpesi was contacted several times via text messages (asking whether or not he had “paid the balance” and coordinating meeting times) by one of the nine militants arrested in connection to the attack, but he was released late Oct. 4 without charges.

The volatile political situation in Nigeria has Jonathan on the defensive. MEND’s announcement that it would restart its militant campaign at a later date following the Abuja bombings indicates that the faction with links to Okah is either trying to manipulate the political climate on its own or is being paid to do so by a political patron. If MEND chooses to conduct similar bombings, it should be noted that the devices used Oct. 1 were not very large, which means that they could be deployed a number of other ways besides in a vehicle — including on the back of motorcycles or by hand. The Oct.1 warning from MEND preceding the attacks instructed people to stay away from trash bins as well as vehicles. MEND has proven capable of this kind of attack going back to 2005 and conducted an almost identical attack in the Delta city of Warri last March, but this is the first bombing that caused civilian casualties.

Jonathan, in coordination with the SSS, is looking to prove he can control security in the capital and beyond, which will likely mean more aggressive police action ahead of the elections under the guise of thwarting terrorist attacks. The arrest of Dokpesi likely served as a warning to Jonathan’s opponents that he still maintains control over the security apparatus.

"I think you do a great job with what you produce. Keep up the great writing and analysis, it's as good or better than a great deal of the classified intel briefings I used to get."

"As a subscriber paid up for the next few years, I find your thinking very refreshing and very rewarding for me personally. I have always thought the mainstream news media were a day late and a dollar short on most subtle issues. And of course elected political leaders were only interested in discussing issues in a way that would help their re-election chances."
