Just a week ago this story about reversing the sale of the bank was cooked up simply because president-elect knows the new bank's chairman, Abiru. Statistics from the opinion poll sponsored by an acclaimed 'godfather' of Lagos politics and a certain Benin billionaire, has shown that the APC cannot get beyond 23% of total vote cast in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State, due to the putrid and ragged political reputation of the APC candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, amongst the Edo populace, which no amount of image laundering and reputation managers can launder. Even more worrisome to the Ize-Iyamu camp are the concluding results of their campaign call centre which pegs their number of positive responses at 21%, that is if the figure was not inflated by them; as they have been known in the not too distant past to rig a primary election that had no opponents. These preelection results have sent electrifying shiver and panick down the spines of the Oshiomhole-ze-Iyamu camp. With the reality of an impending and inevitable defeat staring them in the face, and with the ghosts of their atrocities haunting their inactive conscience, they decided to hatch this last failed plan to illegally inaugurate another House of Assembly, with an imported Mace from Imo State, in a desperate attempt to impeach the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly alongside the Governor, with the backing of the alleged or so-called Abuja police, and thus install Victor Edoro as New Speaker and acting Governor of Edo State. Chris Ojeikere Edo people have proven once again that they will defend to the last man an attempt by the Edo State EPM faction of the APC, led by Adams Oshiomole and a Benin billionaire, to destroy the hard earned Democracy they engendered by voting Governor Godwin Obaseki in 2016. As we write, Edo people have all relocated to the premises of Edo House of Assembly, EDHA, to defend democracy, because Oshiomole and the said billionaire had planned today to take over the Assembly Complex forcefully and throw Edo State into political anarchy by bringing in some strangers to announce a purported impeachment of the Governor. An impeachment that exist only in the figment of their lawless imaginations. The plan was hatched in the Aiguobasimi house of a Benin billionaire, and presided over by Oshiomole. It had in attendance: Oshiomole, Ganduje, Tinubu 's aide and the billionaire. The plan was a frenetic and desperate reaction to the opinion poll carried out by these people to assess the chances of their factional candidate for the September election. The opinion poll was sponsored by Bola Tinubu, a lover of opinion polls. But this time they found out to their shock and embarrassment that their candidate could not score beyond 21%. So they panicked, especially as pictures and reports from Edo North showed that the Governor was raking in all the support from would be voters there. So as a last ditch effort, they hatched the plan. Their only option was to resort to lawlessness and violence. They invaded the hallowed chambers of EDHA to cause all sorts of violence and mayhem. They had already contracted, Governor Uzodinma of IMO State to bring a fake Mace down to Benin, which they thought they could smuggle in to hold a kangaroo sitting with their lions and tigers keeping watch, and then go ahead to say they have impeached Obaseki. It must be noted that the EDHA is under renovation right now, but that did not matter to Adams Oshiomole, whose desperation has reached feverish pitch and, who, like a thief in the night sneaked in, when the Governor was away campaigning to strengthen our Democratic process, to truncate that same democracy. It's a shame. But happily, Edo people are there now defending democracy. The question they are asking is why is Oshiomole importing strangers , like Tinubu and Uzodinma to come and cause chaos in Edo State? Why is it that everywhere Edo EPM and its factional candidate go, violence and anarchy are on their trail? First, it was the Oba's palace and now,, it is the EDHA. Today the 17th of July, Executives of the Ibidun Ighodalo Foundation launched the 40at40 project which is geared towards providing an opportunity for couples who are facing infertility challenges to be able to have babies of their own through alternative methods of conceiving such as In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF), artificial insemination, etc. Founder of IIF, Ibidunni Ighodalo recently pass on but had planned to help 40 couples embattled with infertility in Nigeria to become parents through her foundation as a celebration for her 40th birthday. StarTimes Refreshes Content Offerings, Reaffirms Affordability Through Pay-As-You-Go Model Friday, July 10, 2020: StarTimes has refreshed its content offerings, bringing more sought-after content to its subscribers at the most affordable rate in the market. This is even as a new blockbuster Hollywood movie channel and two premium sports rights are coming on the platform. To bring these exciting offerings within the reach of every Nigerian, the pay-TV entertainment provider said it pioneered and remains the only player in the Nigerian market offering flexible subscription options â daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly, allowing Nigerians to subscribe according to their needs and means. Disclosing this during a virtual conference meeting with journalists, on Friday, in Lagos, Viki Liu, Marketing Manager of StarTimes said that due to StarTimes' giant stride to make digital TV affordable to all families, the price of pay-TV has been greatly lowered, from average $50 per month to 3 or 5 dollars per month. She noted that the pay-as-you-go options are available for all bouquets; and whether a customer subscribes daily, weekly or monthly to a bouquet, he will have access to the same channels and services, adding that flexible billing systems are reasonable for people who do not spend reasonable time watching television after subscription. Viki said that although the sharp drop in naira has forced the brand to adjust some of its bouquet prices upwards from August 1, subscribers will get more value for what they are paying, without compromising affordability. Her words, "Over the last couple of months, StarTimes has been adding new and exciting channels, great local and international channels for the viewing pleasure of our teeming subscribers without an additional charge. These channels, including other existing flagship channels and content, were acquired at a cost which StarTimes has continued to bear to cushion the economic pressure on subscribers." âFor sports lovers, StarTimes offers varieties of international football tournaments for the entertainment of our teeming subscribers. Europa League, Bundesliga and Coppa Italia are exclusive on StarTimes. We also air English FA Cup, Copa Del Rey among others. âWe also brought back FOX; FOX LIFE; National Geographic; Nat Geo Wild; ESPN; ESPN 2 and BABY TV. We will very soon also be including a new Hollywood blockbuster movie channel on our list of entertainment content,â she also noted. Speaking on the challenges that the company is facing in its quest to provide cable TV entertainment to subscribers, the StarTimes marketing manager said that earlier this year, the Federal Government increased the rate of the Value Added Tax (VAT) from 5% to 7.5%. âThis increase did have an effect on our cost but in consideration of our customersâ plight, we continued to bear that extra cost. "More recently, the impact of the foreign exchange rate has had an overwhelming adverse effect on our business. Our business is not exempted from the effect of the naira depreciation affecting all businesses in the country. âAll of our foreign content is bought in dollars and to continually serve our subscribers the best content, we have been constrained to make some slight review on our subscription rates. The decision to make this review is based on compelling external factors beyond our control. âBy this review which will take effect from August 1st, for our DTT (antenna) users: basic bouquet subscribers will now pay N1,700 as against N1300 monthly to enjoy close to 80 exciting channels; Classic Bouquet subscribers will pay N2,500 as against N1,900 monthly to keep enjoying close to 100 channels. While Nova bouquet remains unchanged at N900 with over 43 exciting channels. âFor DTH (Dish) users: Smart bouquet subscribers will pay N2,200 as against N1,900 monthly; Super Bouquet subscribers will pay N4,200 as against N3,800 monthly. While Nova bouquet remains unchanged at N900. DTH has close to 200 exciting channels. âWe hope our customers understand as we are not known for incessant price increase. Rather, StarTimesâ subscription prices had on different occasions been reduced in order to make digital TV affordable for every Nigerian.â Responding to enquiries from the media, Liu assured subscribers that as a business, the brand will continue to make it a priority to broaden its content offerings to meet a variety of their interests without compromising affordability. âDespite the price adjustment, we shall continue to delight our subscribers with more value at the best cost in the Pay-TV market. Consumerâs interests are duly taken care of with these flexible subscription options which give them access to pay for what they watch as low as N90 daily.â she said.
