KnightsTemplar: Ma guy no body is measuring deek with you here. i would have ignored ur post, but we all here to learn . Ur suggestion/procedure is quite dumb, if the guy copies and paste the windows installation files to his flash memory, please how does he now make the medium bootable for the BIOS to recognise the flash as a bootable device. U think the BIOS will just pick the the executable file without an instruction to the effect. Ur suggestion is akin to advising somebody to clone his hardisk by coping and pasting all the contents of his hard drive to another, expecting the new hardisk to boot to windows once plugged to the system. If you had even advised him to use the I386 WINNT command from ur procedure, I wouldn't have been bothered. We had the same issue of safe mode with you here, and you assume you know it all.

i am not saying i know it all! mind u, i HAVE DONE THAT BEFORE!!
JUST OPEN THE CD, COPY, PASTE, AND YOU ARE GOOD TO GO!!
this is in no way related to your misconception about my view as to cloning a hard drive!
As per the 'safe mode' issue, let the person in question report whether it worked or not.

you don't need to change it unless f12 doesn't work on urself system. Just press it in bios, then select the flashdrive

This is a good riddance but im sorry to say that you don't need all these!
I thought you were trying to load windows on the flashdrive, but i see you are trying to re-install Windows but lack CD Drive!

Follow these 10 steps!
1. Find another computer,
2. Insert the flashdrive
3. Insert the disc
4. Open My computer
5. Right-Click on the disc
6. Select 'copy'
7. Open the flashdrive,
8. Right'Click, and Paste!!
9. Insert the flashdrive into the system you want to install Windows on..
10. Press F12 or any other key corresponding to selecting boot device, scroll to the flashdrive and press Enter!!

if you are using windows7, xp, vista, the drivers should be automatically installed as soon as the dongle is connected.
Try using the dongle with more systems. It is probably the culprit.

Usb dongles i know always use to be plug and play!
Buy another dongle bro!

Open Computer, and note the label for your flashdrive ( something like E: D: e.t.c.)

in that same command prompt you opened, type 'CD E:' (without quotes, substituting the drive letter of your flashdrive with E, but if the same, leave it.)

then enter the already given commands.

SIMPLIFIED: Guys pls i have a little problem.. The folders in my flash dont appear when i open my flash in most system except very few i tried it.. It shows d folders are there if u scan with antivirus nd d used space on the flash but they are nt visible when d flash is opened

1. insert your flashdrive into the system
2. Open Cmd
3. Change the directory to your flashdrive directory label, e.g. CD F:
4. Enter attrib-s -h /s /d *.*

now your files are back!

try to update from your manufacturer's website.

try updating your drivers. Most especially, the video drivers.

KnightsTemplar: It appears u r oblivious of the usefullness of the safe mode in fixing log in problems, most especially in windows xp, the advice deji gave her is the first step a pro tech will follow.

if she is able to logon to windows in safe mode, i stand to be corrected! But if otherwise.......................

The best option for you is to download compatible softwares. Even if you run some softwares in compatibility mode, they are still bound to fail.

When the machine first starts again it will generally list some
equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc.
At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with
a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode.

click start, run and type in msconfig untick the antivirus u 've just installed and any other programmes
you deemed necessary and click apply and ok then restart later .afterwards

I'd like u to do a system restore. click start , all program mes , accessories, system tools and system restore select
a date when everything was working fine follow the instructions

it is likely your windows files are corrupt. It may be the explorer.exe or winlogon.exe.
Way forward: repair with your windows xp disc!

billtommy: My fellow nairalanders........I need your help pls.........I've a problem using an mtn fastlink modem I just bought on my HP mini 110-4100. The modem interface opens but the modem won't recognize any sim card, not even the primary sim card (this isn't an unlocking issue as I am not after that yet) I found out that there are some drivers missing from my system, and all my efforts to install these drivers proved abortive. I'll appreciate your sincere response(s) to get this problem resolved. It is a Huawei modem E303. Btw, the modem works properly when I installed it on other people's laptops.

try to update the missing drivers! This cane be done through windows update!

With the little i know, i will try to explain some of your laptop's problems accordingly:

Emzybrown: my laptop is now a heck of problems,
1. my dvd rom is not working again,
check for any slack of your dvd player. This is located beside the laptop. If possible, remove it, and re insert properly, making sure that the connectors are not clogged in any way(s).
After re-insertion, if it doesn't recognise it still, you may have a faulty DVD Rom.
The fault may arise from you watching movies with the laptop without copying it first. This weakens the lens easily! Your laptop is not a dvd player!!

2. my laptop showing me to replace batery, remove the battery, wrap in an airtight object like nylon, or polythene bags and put it in the freezer for like five hours. Remove it and let it wait in a cool dry place for another 1 hour. Then insert it into the laptop, charge, and check for any other error.
Of this doesn't work, boot into the bios, and check for the setting to calibrated or check the battery. (i don't know your system config.
If after taking all these steps the computer is still giving the same message, you may need to replace your battery.
A normal computer battery should last for five hours, but we usually overlabour them by gaming with battery power! This is the major cause of weak batteries, beware!

this may be another reason for the battery problem as normal lithium batteries 'love' operating at temperatures lower than 15degree c.
Have you ever wonder why your phone takes longer to charge when hot? That is why!
It is normal for the system to get a little warm while in use for a long period but wanking your system to any hotness around 75 degree c. is pretty uncool!
This can be caused by dirt blocking the vents, using your system on a surface like rug, foam, or any other surface which may block the vent holes should also be avoided.
The system may need to be blown a little bit to clear off the dust, and the thermal glue cleaned off and re-applied. Your laptop is not a vacuum cleaner, keep out of dust, it is allergic to it!!
If these steps fails, viruses may be the cause. This will be explained shortly in the next complaint!

I have seen many occasions of this occurrence. This can cause your system to overheat because the CPU is being forced to be occupied - which may boomerang into a hot p.c which wears the battery with 'hotness'!
The solution to this is to boot into safe mode (quickly press F8 while in bios). Check the computer usage. At this juncture, if it is still near 100%, consider re-installing your O.S.
If the usage is below 13%, then started uninstalling or disabling some startup applications and/or services. If it still can't help the situation, i am out of options because no antuvirus can redeem this. You will have to re-install windows! Im sorry for that though! However, this can be done without losing all of your software, and any of your files provided you know how to re-install windows without formatting the Hard Drive. [/b]
