DO YOU HAVE AN OVERBEARING BOSS? Now, you are excited about your new job. The pay is good; the people are nice but the boss, a pain in the neck. You don’t even feel like going to work the next day but then, what can you do when you do not have immediate alternative(s) or the job is all you have been dreaming of. You love your job and colleagues. It provides a nice environment for growth and development. What can I do you ask? What can you do when u are confronted with a nagging and overbearing boss? In this article, you will be provided with tools needed to manage your MEAN BOSS as best as you can. 1 – Self Analysis The first and most important tool is an honest self-analysis. How have you been carrying out your duties? Do you submit your reports as and when due? How about gossiping and backstabbing your colleagues? Are you always logged on to the internet when you are supposed to be working? If you can’t answer yes to any of these questions then your boss is probably the good guy. But if he is not, try re-focusing on the projects at hand; do your jobs diligently and to the best of your abilities and see if there are any changes in the boss’s behavior. 2 - Bad Boss Behavior Analysis The second tool is as vital as the first. You should make a list of all the things that your boss does that drives you crazy. If possible rank them from most annoying to the least annoying. Then find a way to let him know about it in a polite way. 3 – Talk to the Boss Now, you have listed the bosses annoying behaviors, its time to let him know what he may not be aware of. Try to schedule a meeting with your boss to discuss the issues you have listed. Prepare yourself for whatever reaction your boss may have. Truth is, most times the boss does not know he is being bad. He might be comfortable with his leadership style and would not see anything wrong with it until someone speaks up. The boss may be the type that does not give enough feedback or simply gives too much. A boss may feel that he is allowing you to be independent by not providing enough feedback. On the other hand, he may be giving too much feedback and too much time micro-managing you because they are insecure about their own jobs, and not realizing the adverse effects it has on you the employee. When you as an employee voice your concerns, this can make the situation better. In this situation, a lack of communication would cause more problems than it would solve. Realize also that your boss is not infallible. Bosses are humans. 4 – Find a Mentor If your job means so much to but your boss is making your experience a hellish one then you can have a mentor in your company. Such a mentor can be a senior officer who can or may be able to intervene in your troubles with your boss. He or she can be your voice if nobody else cares to listen to you. 5 – Report the Boss I know this sounds almost unthinkable; for a staff to report his/her superior. But as a last resort report the boss to his/her supervisor or someone in human resources. Under normal circumstances, the boss would be queried and made to change his behavior, but the reality is that you are labeled a trouble-maker or complainer and your days at the company numbered. As a follow up to this step I would suggest a quiet search for a new job. 6 – Be Proactive While you are still there at your present office start making contacts and building a network with clients, industry leaders and senior colleagues by collecting references etc. Do not let your boss’s behavior distract you. Focus on activities that position you to lead and produce measurable results. The experience you will have gathered will enhance your credibility when the next job opportunity comes. 7 - Don’t Lose Your Sleep When you do nothing, the problem won’t be solved. Your boss won’t drop dead just because you wished he did. Instead of lose your sleep, which would be detrimental to your health and in turn your self-esteem, move on if you think you’ve had enough. This is a very good time to start working your network and begin looking for a new job - within or outside the organization. However, be careful not to quit before you find a new job, unless it has become really unbearable. |
I got wind of something interesting some weeks back. I went to an office to do some business and as i was there a lady walk in with a HP Laptop in a bag. She opened and announced, "I have Gotten My Laptop". Still in the carton and every thing. So i asked her how much she paid for it and guess what she said. U can't guess right? Ok. "20k, she said" She said 20k. Yes 20k. I was shocked. She should be in her fifties, so i tot and blive she won't just joke with a thing like that. I was surprised she bought a laptop for that amount - 20k other in the office confirmed it and I immediately asked to see the man behind the cheap laptop thing. I saw him exchanged contacts, knew his office (needed 2 c formyself u knw). Man, no long thing. U can get urs too if u want. U don't need to refer nobody or anything. its dat good a deal. Don't read again jor. go now to http://tinyurl dot com/lpvduv now to get the full gist |

When u are dowloading and d message 'file unknown' displays, wait a while. It happens to me most times and from experience, it is due a delay in loading or download time ussaully due to server issues. The download server location, file size, file type has to be identified before you click on save button. So give it time to load. When u have seen d file type, Name, location or source (e.g url source) and other things dat prpoerly describes what u r downloading then u click save, and do all other neccessary things. remeber in vista, ur permission is always needed to carry on with whatever u doin. So give it. Try dat first. Good Luck |
There are various courses he can do to upgrade. For instance, like some one has suggested, he should first and foremeost go get a PGD and go ahead to do a masters if he wants (I think he should). Most importantly though, i want to ask, does he have any relevant IT skills. he should get training in either of these as an engineer. MSCE, CCNA, ORACLE, A+, N+. There are others but consider these. He should meet an expert or someone wit good IT knowledge to guide him. Last words. He should not see himself as a failure or not fitting into the workforce. I am sure he is better than lots of pple out there. He has to develop a winning, positive attitude. Good luck |

9ja graduates wetin. Look inward pls, not every one shud be employed, some have to be employers. U should take all Iranoladun has highlighted seriously especially wen she sed "To avoid exploitation please head hunt your target companies directly do not go through agencies. In fact, you may limit your search to the net, network and direct contact". Most of ur CVs are very poorly written even wen u have smarshing grades. U need to groom urselves well. Know how to prepare for interviews, package ur CVs, network for jobs and most importantly research ur industry or the company u r about jooinning. KNow some thingds about them b4 interview date. Dat way u get to make a good impressionof urself. If u think u can't take the unemplyement thing any more, create a job for urself. Good luck, |
In my own opinion, u stick to hat works 4 u. I have used lots of anti-viruses that did well at one time and went dea at other times. Kaspersky, Gosh, Aint dat a virus on its own Like mr. Benz said whta works for A might not work for B. I would however reccommend constant updates (daily if possible) of whichever one u use. My ratings #1. Avast Home Edition - Easy to update and latest version comes with root kit remover. #2. Nod 32 - Also very easy to update #3. Avg Free. this one can drive u crazy sometimes as it detects some softwares as viruses. #4. Norton #5. Bull gaurd and odas Don't take my word for it tho.U might get a differnt result when u try any of these. |
@ Mactao The starcomms EVDO is their desktop data card/modem. Dats what most cyber cafe's use. I can vouch for the MTN 3.5g fastlink data service. It quite nice. Fast, reliable with great download speed too. But note that sometimes the network in the area where u live would be a major factor. I use it in Benin without stress, but when i visit lagos with it, i can't always get connected untill i come to the balcony. Ucan also try starcomms and multilinks. they are quite okay. |
