All this SMN insults, There is a difference, on SMN there are mostly long term investors, here we have mostly traders, In a sustained bear market, People here would loose far more money than those on SMN because the stocks with fundamentals and reputation would be less affected than the flying stocks with no substance behind them, I've seen a bit of all, this is my 8th year in the market. There are stocks I bought 2006 that are still in profit, no matter what happened in 2008 and co, The stocks where I lost money where all speculative plays. I do a bit of both today, I still have my long term portfolio I hardly sell fromm, I get dividends which I re-invest from that, I have my trading portfolio with another broker, I've made some quick money with that but I usually transfer money from there to long term. There's no point. Being sentimental and abusive here, it doesn't help with the way you guys are perceived here, There is a big lot of wisdom on SMN, try and be open and listen to both sides of every story, You'd be thankful when the bears come. I've noticed in Nigeria (where I know) the average member of staff wants to do the least work for the most reward. I've had people I hired to do projects who would only work hard on salary week, the rest of the month is for facebook and giving a million excuses why they can't work. You sack them they call you wicked and tell God to punish you. There are the hardworking ones, the ones who always go the extra mile and don't make salary their focus, they either leave for better jobs or to start their own thing or have guaranteed job security. Back to topic, hiring staff is expensive, especially for a big business with the severance payments you have to make, pensions, allowances and all that. It's smarter hiring contractors to fill specific roles as needed so it is easy to shut down departments when they are unproductive or no longer required. It is not wickedness it is being practical. People want to stay on a job till they die. I don't think that's what jobs where made for. On the other hand, even as a capitalist, I believe the socio-economic needs of the society have to be met. Rep's should focus on pressuring FG to provide steady light, roads and make doing business in the country easier. When that is done, more employers of labour would emerge, less jobless graduates would roam the streets and I don't think the issue of contract and no contract would be an issue. Contract staffing makes jobs available to graduates who won't have an opportunity otherwise. Rather than praise Politicians who only want to do things to make people praise them, why don't we look at things objectively? As usual they are fighting the symptoms and not the root of the unemployment isssue! If it's 2 years so what? Would it reduce unemployment? No! 5 Likes |
