*The magical governor in Kwara State* By Abdulrazaq Hamzat Governance is not magic, so they often say, until the emergence of a magical governor in Kwara State, whose life style, performances and work ethics have been described as magical by the people of the state. The Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has been described as a living machine, who work all day, moving from one part of the state to the other, then stays awake all night, doing some paper reviews ahead of the next day. From a political general, who led the masses to victory during the otoge political revolution, he became a demystifier of bigmanism, usually associated with public office when he took over the state on May 29th, 2019, drove and continue to drive himself to work, never jumping queue in public places, nor even in places of worship, then he became a traveller, who sees the entire state from Baruten to Omuaran, as the government house. While he may be seen at Kosubosu in Kwara North, inspecting dilapidated school buildings in one day, he may also be seen at Igbaja in Kwara South the next day at a water works, figuring out how to provide water to the various homes in the state, then in ilorin the next day, at Sobi specialist hospital, gathering first hand information about health sector, which is also replicated across all sectors and providing timely responses as required. This is the life of Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the magical governor in Kwara State, since may 29, 2019 and till date, there is no sign that anything is about to change. It has been said, that a society will be judged by how it treats the weakest people in that society, and for Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, the weakest people of Kwara with special needs, must have the best of the state's attention. This necessitated the governor's visit to the abandoned social welfare center at okoerin, which has never been visited by any governor in the past 20years, to his other engagements, such as the upliftment of the school of special needs, aswell as the meeting with less privileged of the society, with the view of making life better for them. When I visited koro afoju ( corner of the blind) at Gambari area of Ilorin, where the government is currently doing some rehabilitation works, one of the persons I spoke with said to me, "oga, even the blind can now see that there is a government in Kwara state". Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has completely changed public perception of governance in the state of harmony. Let us look at the facts of his government in 100 days. In 100 days as governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has not spent a kobo of government money on chartered flights, despite making series of local and foreign trips. The era of chartered flights, through which public resources are drained is now officially over. Again, this is a governor without large convoy or entourage, who goes about doing his business with little or no funfare. As we all know, before he came on board as governor, there was no water in the the state. Apart from the fact that workers at water corporation were on strike, many of the state water works are completely damaged with no attention. However, through temporary intervention of the governor, water is now flowing into our various homes, with a permanent solution being worked on, to finally resolve the water problem across the state. Just in 100 days, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has put all pot holes in Kwara to shame, particularly in the state capital. This is in addition to the rehabilitation of over 10 major roads. All abandoned projects in the state are all back to life, including hostels at Kwara State Polytechnics and many others. Even courts in Kwara State are now being rehabilitated. Additionally, while the former administration have a kind of phobia in paying counterpart funds to access greater resources, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq kind of relish pleasure in doing so. In 100 days, he has paid several counterparts funds, ranging from UBEC's N450million, RAAMP N200 million, N50 million Fadama project and several others. While the UBEC funding will allow for the transformation of the education sector with the building of first class facilities across the state, RAAMP will enable the construction of over 600 kilometres of rural roads across the 16 local government areas of Kwara. There's also talks about certain primary health assessment report being worked on, that would enable the state access a minimum of N500million from world bank for primary health improvement. But that's not all the governor has done in 100days, there are many more. Apart from paying all workers 100% of their salaries even before month ending, all state colleges of Education, such as Oro, Lafiagi, Legal Studies etc where their teachers have also been smiling to classes after several months of shutdown, with the release of N250million to clear backlog of salaries. If the award of best performing governor in Nigeria is to be given, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is already a strong contender, but according to the governor, he hasn't started implementing his manifesto yet, all he has done is just to give prompt attention to areas needing immediate intervention and setting up a good foundation for the implementation of his campaign manifesto. *Abdulrazaq Hamzat is the Convener of Kwara Must Change* ![]()

Life is a miracle By Abdulrazaq Hamzat Somebody's miracle, is another person's engineering - Sadhguru 100 years ago, anyone who can bring events in different parts of the world to you in your room will be worshipped as a god. There's no debate about this, but today, we all watch the world via our television and mobile devices without much ado. Isn't that a miracle? Many are looking for miracles all around. They move from one spiritualist to the other in search for this so called miracles. When a pastor speaks in tongue and did his hands like this during service, a thousand men might fall down. According to some Christians, that's a miracle. When an alfa or babalawo pulls out something from his pocket and turn it to a bird, we say to ourselves, this is a miracle. Isn't it so? But i see life from another lens Nothing really matters, unless you say it matters. Nothing really is a miracle, unless you say it is a miracle. Imagine, there are videos on YouTube with over 1billion views. I mean, a video that over 1 billion people around the world have watched. Isn't that a miracle? That's unimaginable just 50years ago. Anyone who can create such device in ancient times will be worshipped as a god, but today, many do not even know who created it, we do not pay attention to it. In today's world , what we regard as miracle is the shenanigans of our spiritual leaders such as the Islamic clerics and the Christian pastors But in truth, can you really tell us a single thing that is not a miracle in this world? A couple had sex, you came out. Isn't that a miracle? You cut your hair last month, but another had grown from the same spot. Have you ever wondered where the hair are coming from? You planted a seed of crop and thousands of such came out from that single seed, isn't that a miracle? Today, you can freely pick something from your pocket (phone) and speak with your mum in the village, it doesn't matter that you are not the manufacturer. If you try that 100years ago, many may say you are their lord and saviour. How can you not see that entering something (airplane) that flew you straight to Mecca and Jerusalem is a miracle? I mean, you spoke into one small item in your hand (microphone) and the voice is heard all across the street. Isn't that a miracle? Come to think of it, you put food in your mouth and the next moment it becomes shit in your anus. One moment ago, a chicken is standing before you and the next moment, it is in your stomach, not as chicken, but as part of you. What could be more miraculous than that? Tell me, what miracle can be greater than the earth surface we are walking on? Have you ever wondered how it was made? How can you not see that the air we are breathing is a miracle or that the sky above us is full of amazement? Believe me, i find it strange that nobody seems surprised that we have skin, meat, vain, water, blood and bones all wired through our body. How can that strong teeth come out from such a soft spot? This is still a miracle to me. Believe me. But until we say it matters, it would never matter. When i look at myself and the workings of my world, i have no doubt in my mind that i am indeed, a miracle. Abdulrazaq Hamzat can be reached on discus4now@gmail.com

*Deploy special security to protect Nigerians against further Xenophobic attacks, NGO urges SA govt* _Caution Nigerians against retaliation_ An independent Non Governmental Organisation, Foundation for Peace Professionals (FPP) has called on the South African government to provide special security for Nigerians and their businesses in South Africa to prevent further attacks. The organization also called on the Nigerian government to initiate aggressive diplomatic approaches and show more seriousness in protecting lives of Nigerians across the world. In a statement issued by the Executive Director, Abdulrazaq Hamzat, FPP expressed it's sadness, over the reoccurring xenophobic attacks in South Africa, particularly against Nigerians and other African brothers and sisters, saying that such attacks is highly intolerable. According to Hamzat, "The recent xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa is highly condemnable and can only be carried out by a people who think very lowly of themselves ". "While we understand that majority of South African people are peace lovers who despise such inhuman actions, we regret that the action of these few destructive elements have reduced South Africa to the country of xenophobia, where human lives are treated as nothing of value, FPP said. Hamzat explained that, human lives are too precious to be wasted in senseless violence, adding that, those who deprived fellow humans of their God given lives are the worst of human beings. According to Hamzat, the South African government should immediately deploy special security forces to areas dominated by Nigerians and other Africans to contain the crisis aswell as initiate more proactive methods of preventing future occurrences. FPP also plead with Nigerians to act better than their South African brothers, urging them to refuse taking the path of destruction, as destroying innocent and harmless South Africans and their businesses in Nigeria can never be a justification for the unfortunate incident in South Africa. *Before the FBI, Nigeria's anti graft agency, EFCC has shown cyber criminals hell* Within the last one year, more than 40 convictions has been secured against cyber criminals in Nigeria, but many seems not to know. This is why i find it strange that most people are speaking ill of Nigeria because of the recent report about some cyber criminals. Before the U.S based Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) ever talked about arresting cyber criminals, Nigeria's anti graft agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had already launched a crackdown on them, securing over 40 convictions and still prosecuting many more. As Nigerians, this is what we should be telling the world, rather than feeling guilty for the crimes of the few. We should be promoting the efforts of EFCC through our media and online engagements, rather than focus on spreading the negative. It is important to note that, when we put the efforts of EFCC on the global map, by showing the world that Nigeria is actually leading the crack down on cyber criminals, not abetting it or waiting for foreign security agencies to lead the way, that's what the world would take away from this episode. They will understand that though, there are cyber criminals in the world, amongst which are Nigerians, but the Nigerian people are strongly such, as demonstrated by the efforts of EFCC to bring them to justice. We must understand the power in our narratives. Rather than focus our energy in analysis the negative effect of the exposes, we should focus on telling the world about the positive accomplishment of Nigeria in dealing with internet scammers. This is the best way to tell the Nigerian story, in the context of global narratives. Abdulrazaq Hamzat

*Not sharing public funds is in line with public expectations - Kwara Must Change declares* _Urges Governor Abdulrahman to remain firm_ Leading Pro-democracy group in Kwara state, Kwara Must Change has urged the Kwara State government under the able leadership of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to stick to its mission of departing from the past in the allocation of public resources. The group also hailed the governor for his decision to use public funds strictly for public development, adding that such progressive decision has the support of all progressive forces in Kwara state. In a statement issued by Kwara Must Change convener, Abdulrazaq Hamzat on Tuesday, the group stated that the decision of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to depart from the past, where sharing public funds among few elites was the order of the day is highly commendable. According to Hamzat, the people of Kwara State didn't vote for Abdulrahman to share money like it was obtainable in the past, this government was voted in so that it can depart from the past and the governor must resist every attempt to return kwara state to the past. Hamzat maintained that, the governor's decision not to share public funds is in line with public expectations and majority of the people have nothing but praise for the government, adding that if Abdulrahman had departed from this sacred mission, the people would have been very disappointed. Recall that the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq had on Monday, during Durban celebration at the emir's palace stated that, he will not use public funds for self gratification. He maintained that public funds will only be used for developmental projects and provisions of public services. Kwara Must Change also explained that, if available resources are distributed among the political class, nothing would be left for development in the state thereby leaving Kwara permanently underdeveloped and such situation must never be allowed. Hamzat therefore urges the people of Kwara, particularly the progressive forces to support the governor's effort to create sustainable development in the state for the benefits of all. End |

Grass is not greener on the other side By Abdulrazaq Hamzat In recent time, we have seen and heard women, particularly African women calling on the world to rescue them from what they described as slavery in Middle East. Middle East comprises of countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Qatar etc In some of these audio and video alarms being raised by the victims, these women, who are mostly domestic workers, maids etc often accused their employers of rape, sexual abuse, assault, exploitation, slave labour and so on. While the narrative usually assumes that this is only happening to the victims because they are immigrants from developing countries, the reality is that, that may not necessarily be the case. Available evidences show that, women generally are being subjected to various acts of oppression, abuse and subjugation in the Middle East. Using Dubai as an example. In year 2000, precisely 19 years ago, 18 year-old Shamzah Almaktoum, daughter of Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Muhammed Almaktoum escaped from Dubai to UK, over what she described as extreme oppression of women, by her father and his government. Even though she is the daughter of ruler of Dubai and the Prime Minister of UAE, 18 years old Shamzah at the time, seems to have had enough of the mistreatment of herself as a woman in a country, where her father is the ruler, leading to her escape to UK. Unfortunately, the father eventually sent kidnappers to abduct her from UK and return her to Dubai, which they did, kept her in isolation and has remained there till date under extreme emotional torture. 8 years later, precisely in 2008, Shamzat's kid sister, Latifah Almoktoum also attempted to escape from UAE. She was caught at Dubai's border and returned to the country. Like her older sister, Latifat was also kept in solitary confinement for 3years, 4 months, before being allowed to relate with her mother and other family members. However, Latifat didn't want to give up her quest for freedom against mistreatment of women in her father's country. Last year, she executed her planned escape for the second time and she partially succeeded. However, even though she successfully left UAE, her greatest mistake was massaging her family back home while still on the Indian shore. Before getting to her destination in India before crossing over, she was located through air and sea surveillance and abducted by a naval military team sent by her father. Fortunately for her, she did an exclusive video before embarking on this mission, explaining everything about her father and his many atrocities. Her whereabout till date remains unknown, but her recorded video is being used by her friends to advocate for her. As if that wasn't enough, another major escape happened just last month. In July 2019, Haya Almoktoum, the wife of Muhammad Almaktoum, Prime Minister of UAE also fled Dubai to UK, where she's currently hiding. She already filed for divorce in UK. The point here is that, if the wife and female children of Dubai and UAE ruler are facing such an extreme situation, requiring them to seek escape from a country, where they are immediate members of the first family, just imagine what ordinary women in such country would be going through, not to talk of mere female immigrants? So, while the alarm being raised by immigrant women, particularly those from Nigeria should be taken very seriously by our government, we must understand that the general status of women, in that part of the world, is far from being what it should. This is why i am compelled to advise women, particularly young ladies to resist temptation of being lured to travel out of this country, particularly to Middle East. The grass is not usually greener on the other, but many didn't know until they become victims of their own circumstances. Please, stay and work where you have legitimate rights to work with dignity. Stay where you can access family and social support. The world is cruel, don't be it's victim #WomenOppression Abdulrazaq O Hamzat can be reached on discus4now@gmail.com |
