Phones / Re: Microsoft To Dump Nokia And Windows Phone Brands by bimbor(m): 7:01am On Apr 12, 2015
LordAdam:
Nokia did what was best for business! The MS deal was awful because MS was the other party holding the pen not because Nokia didn't make a calculated decision.

Android OS was free to use, meaning hundreds of OEMs to compete with. If instead we choose to go with the top 5 that command the Android sub-smartphone industry, we're still talking tight-end competition with lower per-unit net margins.

Windows mobile OS was captivating (at least the preview sort of opened up that box), and believe it or not AndroidOS (with material design), iOS (7+), BB 10 have all taken inspiration from WinP 8 flat design.

Nokia wanted to make the best of that opportunity and initially made a break for it, throwing Samsung and HTC off balance in WP and cementing their place as the leader. Their only dilemma was that iOS and AndroidOS were still on an upward march. Very different from the Symbian era when they ruled supreme with nothing to worry about from other OSes.

Nokia WP phones have the best cameras in the smartphone world, the build of the high-end devices are impressive and would take Samsung lines of phone from S3-S5 to the cleaners (and stand toe-in with HTC and Sony). Take the Lumia 1020 and 1520 as case studies.

The Windows store is empty no longer, and the OS emphasizes why UX is of prime importance in how pleasurable it is to use.

For those asking why Nokia did not go on the Android track while sticking with Windows like Samsung, it'd interest you to know that Nokia had Android prototypes before they signed on with Microsoft. They did a couple of in-house deliberations and the board ratified that WP was the best option after all pros and cons had been chewed on. Additionally, it is myopic to believe that with Microsoft paying Nokia to use the WP OS, and using them as the face of WP (Microsoft WP ads used Nokia Lumia phones n surface pro tabs) they wouldn't have a clause in the contract that prohibited Nokia from building phones with the Android OS baked in. If I was the one making the deal, I'll add that clause in plain n simple terms. Sure the Nokia X, n XL try to put a lid on this theory, but not really. The OS on both phones were WP styled with an Android kernel, reason why without rooting both phones, run-off-the-mill android apps could not work on it. Another reason is that the timing of the device launch was at when Microsoft n Nokia had called it quits on their previous arrangement, opting for a buy-in/sell-out for Microsoft/Nokia respectively.

Yes, it's a shame that Nokia is slowly dwindling out of the mobile phone industry, we'd miss them, but it doesn't mean we'll stagnate. Businesses don't stay forever, iOS n Android will soon hit the burner, all it takes is for one fella to bring up something we didn't think we had need of until it was brought up, some risk-hog OEM to adopt it, major OSes downplay it, and FTW we're all screwing over our fan-boy flags and switching on either as early-adopters or smoothing off with the wind of change.

And finally, why can't you all Android peeps do BB a whole lot of good by not dragging them into every 'fail' smartphone discussion. BB 10 is as smooth as iOS, with same power in the hood as Android devices (Check out Z30 specs and the upcoming Passport). BB has the enterprise market under her belt (an insurance package), still has a service quality we will never grow tired of--security (Apple with more than half a trillion dollars in valuation couldn't keep some raspy hacker from iCloud photos. And are our memory so short-lived to forget PRISM?). For the app-huggers, take this: 90% of Android apps can be sideloaded on BB 10.2, BB10.3 to increase that count. That's a highly diverse app ecosystem by any measure.

The Blackberry Passport will be my switch from BBOS7 to BB 10, I'd still hold my LG G3 close by (I'm not close-minded). Having four competing OSes is best for all of us, at least we'd be sure our preferred OS will make devices that touch on our complaints (eg Apple making big-sized phones, adding NFC; essentially proving Steve Jobs wrong when he asserted that "no one will ever use big sized phones" himself forgetting that the 3.5" debut iPhone was itself a big sized phone by 2008 standards), and if they don't listen we make our switch (eg Blackberry previously asserting that touch screens were a fad). This is in preference to one or two major OSes dictating the pace and insulting us to our face when we demand for a feature and we're replied with "We don't think you need what you're demanding": Da F***!

Coming from a BB 9860, iPad Air, and LG G3 user...

Phones / Re: Help Me On My Samsung S4 Wifi Problem by bimbor(m): 6:27am On Apr 12, 2015
You failed to tell us everything about this problem. First how long have you been using the phone? When did you start noticing the problem? What app did you download before the problem started?

Anyway, Download wifi Manager from Playstore and try enabling your wifi with it.

If that doesn't work, do a factory reset using your stock recovery.

This plan wouldn't even open opera mini talkless of browse other site. MTN wouldn't be foolish to introduce 4.5g data for N2,500 and this one at same time.

Forget that 4.5gb for N2,500 plan, it's not worth it at all! Once your 1.5GB day data finishes you can no longer browse during the day and you are restricted to 9pm -6am browsing. So its as if you are buying 1.5GB for 2,500. This new BetterMe plan is better.
Music/Radio / Olamide Is Better Than Dagrin by bimbor(m): 3:53pm On Apr 11, 2015
RIP Dagrin......

But from what I've observed so far.....even if Dagrin was alive today Olamide will be rated above him. Olamide is just a god of rap today. His flows so easy like he has an archive of lyrics. Olamide is an enigma....a living Legend in the rap industry.....Any upcoming rapper in Nigeria should go and take his blessing. Olamide is the best thing to happen to Nigerian Hip Hop. No matter how whack a song is....give it to Olamide he will resuscitate it!! No wonder he rose so fast!! His humility speaks volumes. My love for Olamide grows e'erday!! Atimes I ask myself, where does this dude get his flows from!!!

Another upcoming rapper is Posly TD. The kid is hot too plus his dance steps will sweep away Psquare's! Check his "Rap it up" video....That guy is the future of Naija hip hop.

Olamide is king and will always rule!!

Long live King Baddoo!!! Long Live Baba Miliano!

voltron:
Since 2012 I used a couple of expensive methods to purchase goods off Amazon not limited to the following
1: Buy and Ship to American Address of a Friend arriving Nigeria in a week or two
2: Use Nigerian Shops who buy on your behalf and ship at exorbitant prices and +5% Black Market USD$
3: Use American re-shipping and forwarding agents such as MyUs.com

all the above did not exactly satisfy my hunger for original/premium quality goods. Rather than fight with Nigerian shops selling knock-offs or out-dated and on-sale goods for more than 5 times the price on Amazon. I decided to try Amazon today and viola!! they do ship to Nigeria using my GTBank MasterCard. I quickly placed an order for some items and checked-out my cart. goods should arrive this April 17 at most.

My Question is.. How are Nigerian Entrepreneurs going to match Amazon in pricing and quality. Jumia and Konga have only raised the hunger for online shopping without the capacity to meet it appropriately. but with Amazon in the picture.. won't Nigerians move their purchases elsewhere.. what happens to the affiliate marketing schemes and other online retailers like SLOT etc.

Aaaah!! E don be for Konga and Jumia be dat oh!!!

A new anti-theft feature will make stolen phones less valuable

Google’s latest update to its Android operating system makes your smartphone less desirable—to thieves, that is.

Android 5.1 was rolled out on Monday with a new anti-theft technology called Device Protection, according to Google’s Official Android Blog. The system will keep your stolen or lost phone locked until you sign in with your Google account, even if someone restores your phone to factory settings.

Device Protection will be available on smartphones shipped with Android 5.1, and also the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.

Other features on Android 5.1 include support for multiple SIM cards and HD voice calling between compatible devices.

GREAT!!!!!!!

Finally Apple can shut up forever! We always say it, Google is the future!! They ain't seen nothing yet!!

Phones / Android Users: Share Your Android 5.0 Experience Here! by bimbor(m): 3:19pm On Mar 12, 2015
Android 5.0 Lollipop is Google's latest release to its OS platform. Although it has not yet been released to the International market for backward compatible phone models except the Nexus series, I can tell you guys that right now I'm rocking the new Android 5.0.1 on my Samsung Galaxy S4 and it's so sweet I must confess.

I took the bold step yesterday by flashing a Russian release of the OS onto my phone through Odin, and I can say here that I never regret doing that because I'm loving every bit of the new experience.

Android 5.0 is whatsup right now! For those of you that are yet to receive the official update, wait for your carrier to push it to your device, just that I cannot wait for official release. And for those that are already rocking the new OS please share your experiences here.

Bimbor change your spark plugs first and inspect the spark plug wires, as they are common causes of cylinder misfire. Then you can proceed to the other issues.

The mechanics don't understand the other fault codes,I guess those ones can only be deciphered by the real Auto engineers!

DECOtech:

It would not affect your engine if you act fast.

Since you have scanned your car, I can see all the codes but I would advice you first fix the misfire cos sometimes one code could be the reason for some other codes.

So, ask your mech to check to see if you need a plug change or a coil change (it could be something more though) so he should be capable of carrying out proper trouble shooting to know what to do to fix your car.

Cheers.

The other codes were there before now because I scanned the car last month when I saw the Check Engine Light and I saw those other codes "P24xx" but because I did not observe any mechanical changes in the car I did not particularly take any step. So yesterday afternoon when I noticed that the car was stuttering I had to perform another scan and that was when the new fault code propped up "P0304".

The problem now is that I don't really trust some of these mechanics.
