The Imo State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly killing a 26-year-old student of Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Kingsley Okwudiri.

While parading the suspects before newsmen at the command's headquarters in Owerri, the state capital yesterday April 25th, the state Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, said that Damian Ugonna, 26, and Ikechukwu Chukwuemeka, 27, were responsible for the gruesome murder of the undergraduate on April.

“Following the murder of Kingsley Okwudiri, 26, a student of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, on April 17, near Villa Castle hostel, Umuerim Okwu extension, Nekede, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Squad arrested two suspects, Damian Ugonna, 26, and Ikechukwu Chukwuemeka, 27, in connection with the gruesome murder of the victim.

“The suspects have made useful statements to the police and are cooperating in the investigation. Under my reign in this state, no criminal will be allowed to walk the streets as a free man. We will pursue the matter to its logical conclusion.” he said

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, a National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), on Thursday cleared the air on his absence during President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Lagos State.

Tunde Rahman, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media on Thursday said the APC leader did not deliberately stay away from Lagos during Buhari’s visit.

He told Daily Independent, “Tinubu missed the event because he is currently out of the country.

“Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is not in town. He is currently out of the country. That was why he was not present at the occasion, not otherwise.”

Recall: Buhari had on Wednesday commissioned projects in Lagos. However, Tinubu was conspicuously absent, a development, which raised eyebrows among Nigerians

A 57-year-old Nigerian man who spent 27 years in prison for an offence he did not commit, has been released and is now calling for the reform of the judicial system in the country.

According to Rivers State Television, Clinton Kanu was arrested at the age of 30, convicted of murder in 1992 and remanded in Port Harcourt Maximum Prisons.

His appeal against the lower court judgement dragged on slowly, but eventually he got to the Supreme Court of Nigeria. There, he got acquitted of the murder charge on the 5th April, 2019.

Now freed, Kanu is seeking a reform of the nation’s justice system and the prisons.

A man identified as Felix was last week brutalized by some newly recruited officers of the Nigerian Legion Corps, for trying to protect a lady being assaulted by one of them.

The incident happened at Atekong drive in #Calabar, Cross River State. The said officer had gone to buy a drink and paid with a torn N100 which the girl rejected.

Instead of changing the money, he threw N50 on the ground for the girl, who then said “my sweat will judge you.” The statement infuriated the officer and he started assaulting her.

On seeing what was happening, Felix intervened, only for the NL boss to order the remaining trainees on parade to descend on him.
