Balkis Adeniyi, a student at the Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan, has died in an accident that occurred on Mokola-Oyo Road in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday. Eyewitnesses said the accident also left two other victims seriously injured as a tricycle popularly called Keke Napep, rammed into a waste disposal truck at Leventis area of Sango in the metropolis. The accident occurred around 9:30am while the student was returning from a bank where she had gone to pay her school fees. The police gave the number plate of the tricycle as RU 152 UP and described the truck as ‘MARC LAMMERTYN’. An eyewitness, Bamgbose Omobola, blamed the crash on speeding on the part of the tricycle driver, adding that the victim (Adeniyi) died immediately after the accident. The eyewitness said, “the lady was coming from a bank at Ajibade where she had gone to pay her school fees. “Her phone and bag were recovered. When the bag was searched, her school identity card was found there. She was a student of UI. We contacted her parents. The two other victims who had injuries in the heads and legs had been taken to a hospital for treatment.” Confirming the tragedy, the Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Olugbenga Fadeyi, said, “Yes, it was true. “The Divisional Police Officer, Mokola Police Station, confirmed it to me and we have commenced investigation into the matter.” https://all-gists..com/2019/04/Truck-kills-undergraduate-moments-after-she-paid-her-school-fees-in-a-bank.html?m=1

The presidential candidate of the Young Progressive Party (YPP), Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has taken a swipe at Nigerian youths for the role they played during the recently held general elections. “The biggest disappointment was with the youths. The youth vote was absent. They make a lot of noise, they rant and rail but you will not see them on the voting day. And when they vote, they don’t vote in line with their rhetoric,” he said. When asked if the polls witnessed improvement when compared to 2015, Moghalu noted that chaos marred some polling centres coupled with an alleged organisational efficiency and effectiveness shortly before the commencement of voting. “The organisational efficiency and effectiveness of the election was generally weak. We saw it. First, it was postponed at the last minute and in many parts of the country, there was chaos at the polling booths especially in rural areas.” Reacting to President Muhammadu Buhari’s victory at the polls, he advised the current administration to justify the votes and work hard to restore Nigerians have reposed on the President. In doing that, he wants the Federal Government to focus on three cores areas bordering on national unity, building a vibrant economy and the nation’s security. He decried the poor funding of the police, calling on the government to properly equip its personnel with the modern tools to properly secure lives and properties. Moghalu, who is also an economist and former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) however wants the complete removal of subsidy. He also wants the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to be privatised because it “is not a very profitable corporation, it is not a transparent corporation.” Asked if he would still throw in the hat for the 2023 presidential race, his response was “it’s too early to make that kind of decision.” Ahead of the 2023 general elections, the YPP candidate wants the presidency to be zoned to the south-east. https://all-gists..com/2019/04/Nigerian-Youths-Are-The-Biggest-Disappointment-Kingsley-Moghalu.html?m=1 |

As we take the oath of office into the chambers as members of the 9th @nassnigeria we shouldn't deceive ourselves that we are getting inducted into an exclusive club of elites in this, but merely ambassadors of our different constituencies, by extension, the nation #Nigeria. https://all-gists..com/2019/04/Ekweremadu-Dogara-Hosts-INEC-Chairman-Yakubu-Others-Meet-Together.html?m=1

Abubakar Malami, attorney general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice, has accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of “taking the freedom of speech too far”. Malami was reacting to the allegations that he was involved in a plot to cause constitutional crisis in Rivers state. The PDP had alleged that Malami and Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, were pressuring the supreme court to reverse the nullification of the primaries of Rivers chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC). The court had upheld the verdict of the trial court that excluded the APC from participating in the general election that held in the state, ruling that the APC did not conduct credible primary elections. But fielding questions from state house correspondents on the outcome of the federal executive council (FEC) meeting on Wednesday Malami said “the PDP has taken freedom of speech too far.” He said unless otherwise proven in court that he is involved in the act, the allegation will remain an accusation. “Regarding what was leveled against me by PDP, I think it remains an accusation. It has to remain so until proven through a judicial process,” he said. “But for me I think it is freedom of speech that has been taken too far.” |

Don't Mind Babachir Lawal, |
Ahmed Lawal, organising secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Adamawa state, says power must shift to the southern part of Nigeria in 2023. Lawal made the call in an interview with NAN in Yola, Adamawa capital, on Sunday. He said there is need to demonstrate fairness in the polity, adding that the southern part of Nigeria supported the northern part to retain power for eight years. He advised the APC to ensure power rotation in 2023 to enhance national cohesion. Lawal rejected comments from those he called “some selfish northern politicians” intent on shortchanging the south in the scheme of power play. The organising secretary said the proponents of power retention in the north are selfish as they cannot claim to be speaking for the entire north. “We must rotate power to southern Nigeria for the spirit of equity, fairness and harmony,” he said. “As far as Nigerian unity is concerned, power shift must become a stabilising principle so that no region will feel relegated and oppressed politically. “It was instructive that our political leaders sought support from southerners while APC was mobilising during 2015 election. “It is glaring that they cooperated well as no southern APC politician contested the primary election during 2015 and even in 2019. “If we want to be fair to them, let’s allow them to have a feel of power come 2023. It is also instructive that those singing northern power retention cannot speak for the north because they are not authorised. “As you can see, some of them who claim to be members of the APC, worked against the party in the just concluded governorship election to build up PDP to be able to achieve their sinister agenda.” Babachir Lawal, former secretary to the government of the federation and Junaid Mohammed, a politician from Kano, had said rotation of the presidency to the south in 2023 is not automatic. https://all-gists..com/2019/04/2023-presidential-election-power-shift.html?m=1 |
