A Nigerian Man was involved in an argument with officials of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Port Harcourt, capital of Rivers State, on Friday over his refusal to pay them bribes to renew his international passport.

In the video, the woman could be heard telling the man, "You're very silly".

“I just left the immigration office in Port Harcourt where I went to renew my international passport (32 pages) and I was asked to pay N28,000 for three-week collection or N35,000 for one-week collection instead of the N17,000 specified on their website,” he told SaharaReporters.

“I refused to pay extra and while arguing with the officer who attended to me, his superior female officer who overhead our conversation ordered me out of the office and insulted me for demanding that the right thing be done. When she noticed I had the incident recorded on my phone, she ordered her men to seize my phone.”

He expressed disappointment in the condict of the passport officials and called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the NIS management to investigate the matter.

Bribery in exchange for speedy preparation of passport for collection or renewal is a common feature of immigration offices across Nigeria.

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed an officer, Inspector Ogunyemi Olalekan, after he was found guilty of killing Kolade Johnson.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State, Mr Bala Elkana, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

“At the conclusion of the trial, the first defaulter, Inspector Ogunyemi Olalekan, was found guilty of discreditable conduct by acting in a manner prejudicial to discipline and unbecoming of members of the force by shooting and killing Kolade Johnson; Unlawful and Unnecessary exercise of authority by using unnecessary violence, by using AK 47 rifle on the deceased in total neglect to the provisions of Force Order 237 on the use of Firearms.”

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Sen. Thompson Sekibo of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as winner of the Rivers East Senatorial Election.

Mr. Edwin Enabor, INEC Head, Voters Education and Publicity in the state disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

Enabor said Sekibo won the election held on Feb. 23 after polling 283,759 votes.

He said Mr Apiafi Jocelyn of the PDP also won the Rivers West Senatorial poll with 159,215 votes.

Enabor also declared Mr. Dagogo Fara of the PDP, winner of Degema/ Bonny federal constituency election with 30,422 votes.

Others are Mrs. Nwankwo Promise of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who won the Oyibo state constituency seat with 26,675 votes.

Mr. Anthony Soberekon of PDP who won the Degema constituency seat with 10,976 votes, Mr Bariene Deleyah of PDP who won in Khana 1 seat with 64,269 votes and Mr. Prince Ngbor of the PDP who won the Khana 11 seat with 39,681 votes.

He said the state House of Assembly outstanding supplementary election would hold on the April 13.

He said the election would hold in 20 polling units in Opobo/ Nkoro, 47 polling units in Ahoada West among others.
