Gbawe:
As a diasporan I can remember very well how bad Nigeria was Circa 1988 before I left. I think things are better now because I can compare Nigeria of the past to Nigeria of present. I very much appreciate that Nigerians who have seen no significant improvements in their lives from 1988 till date will argue that nothing has changed but that would not be accurate because progress has been made  . The slow pace of progress and the fact that it is still not widespread enough simply means that more efficient work must be done .

Even as I am still extremely dissapointed with Infrastructural development , I see that there has been encouraging progress in the private sector . What we must learn from this is that we need to remove the incompetent and corrupt hands of the FG from areas that can improve or deter our national progress significantly.

I have no doubt that power generation , perhaps the most important pivot required for our national development, would be much improved today if the past democratic goverments of OBJ and Yar Adua had placed selfish interests aside to involve and engage the private sector in an Energy partnership .

Yes , IMO , we are a developing nation because , strictly speaking , developmental changes have been witnessed in Nigeria under democratic rule. The next mountain to climb will be that of free and fair elections that will enable Nigerians to choose selfless and driven leaders who will develop Nigeria far quicker than we are seeing currently.
Thank you and God bless you.

Pennywise:
@OP
That will be putting us in the league of Brazil, China, Indonesia etc. The question is are we truly worth of that categorization?
Maybe we should categorize them like; "FAST developing and SLOW developing nations".

But anyhow, development is development.
PoliticsRe: Is Nigeria A Developing Nation? by binaflexia(op): 2:03pm On Jun 14, 2010
GenBuhari:
Do you see any development?

We seem to be  going backwards if anything.

We once had   N1 =$1

We Once had a National Airline now we do not.

We once had a basic Train network all over the country  - now we do not have as much

Our life expectancy was higher 20years ago.

We used to be relatively safe from robbery and kidnapping - now we are no longer safe.

We used to have a stronger agricultural industry now we do not.

in 1984 corruption was being seriously tackled and corrupt people were being jailed - Now it is out of control and biggest corrupt theives like OBj and IBB are walking around freely flaunting their looted wealth.

What part of Nigeria is developing ? huh
Yes we are developing, slowly.

Read my reply to @seanet02 post, then start your argument from there
PoliticsRe: Is Nigeria A Developing Nation? by binaflexia(op): 11:23am On Jun 14, 2010
seanet02:
Nigeria is backward nation. What points to us as a developing nation? Our illiteracy level is increasing, our industries are collapsing, our roads are going worse, our leaders are going more insane with corruption, our universities are on strike almost every year, our religious fanatism continue to increase as in jos and boko haram, our airports do witness power outage, our railway system is virtually dead. Then what tells you we are developing
That was exactly what my friends saw. But what will you say about our (Democracy, Technological Advancement, Our temporary seat at the UN).

Secondly, when I was growing up, it was easy to see poverty showing on the faces of the people around me. Then you will see a family of 9 living in a room in a facility starved house.

Eating was a problem. You will often hear complain of people stealing cooking pots with food from the kitchen.

Paying a 350 naira secondary school fees was a problem, but today, the opposite is the case. Parents taking their wards to private schools and paying huge some of money every term.

I feel the long era of military dictatorship is to be blame. But since OBJ took over in 1999, I have been some changes.

No doubt, we are not where we were supposed to be, but that didn't take away the fact that there is a slight development.

To me development is development, even if it is a 1% improvement.
PoliticsIs Nigeria A Developing Nation? by binaflexia(op): 10:22am On Jun 14, 2010
Similar question might have been asked before, but I'm just too lazy to search.

I had an argument with my friends some days back in regard to the question; " IS NIGERIA A DEVELOPING NATION?"

I tried very hard to make them understand that the country was developing but at a very slow pace. All of my friends nearly eat off my head for saying that, they even warned me not to say it outside.

All the points I made was regarded as useless and unreasonable by my friends, after some time, I gave up and walked away, because there was no one to support my argument.

Now, judging by my understanding of "DEVELOPMENT" which is a movement towards an improvement, I still hold strong to the fact that Nigeria is a developing nation, seeing the minor positive changes will have undergone for the past 11yrs (Democracy, Technological development, Our temporary seat at the UN and few others).

Let's hear your opinion.

Are we developing or under-developing?

I will appreciate criticism that are constructive and helpful. Thanks
If you have the quality of Messi, Tevez, Higuain in your team, you will keep possession.
Letz give Lagerback the Argentina team and let Maradona manage the Eagles and think for once what the results would be. . . . .

Argentina did what typical Argentine teams do at this level.
The USA94 team were played off the park by the Argentines - same thingy happened in Japan/Korea 2002.

This is a simple logic - Argentina ARE superior. . . .but i have no doubt in ma mind Amodu would have made us look LESS INFERIOR with his shambolic tactical nous and his moronic LATE substitutions.
Thank you very much.

montelik:
This match was just like our match against Argentina at the WC in 2002, where Ike Shorunmu saved us from conceding a basket of goals. Today it was Enyeama who saved us from a total embarrassment. Let us not lie to ourselves, we were poor against Argentina. Because we only conceded one goal thanks to Enyeama's heroics and the profligacy of Higuain in front of goal doesn't mean we played well. Besides the fact we only took in one goal, what did we play that should give us confidence that if we were to repeat this sort of performance we would go far in this tournament. I see this result as more of product of Argentina's under-performance than any supposed improvement or good pattern play by our team. We might be able to beat Greece based what I saw in glimpses during the 2nd half, but I don't know about our chances against Korea. But first Greece where we will need to make a significant improvement.
I bet you will swallow your comment when the Argentine will put 10 pass Skorean and Greece.

NOTE: The presence of Lionel Messi alone is a combined presences of 3 defenders in SE

I'm happy for the super eagles. I pray they could win their remaining 2 matches.

For those of you who are saying, Siasia team was able to hold their own against Argentina in Olympics are missing something. Olympics was 2 years back and all the Argentina players that was involve in that match has improved tremendously over the years.

No real good individual player in the SE eagles, yet we were able to concede that normal 1 goal against the Argentine.

Abeg the coach try.

Still Super Eagles!

Take it or leave it, Mikel is a good player. You must be good to play at the level he plays now or did you want to say that he was fortunate to get their and as well fortunate to get a playing time. The fact that some dump Nigeria football supporters say negative things about him doesn't change the player he his. You guys want him to take up Okocha's boot and play like okocha. He is Mikel and he will continue to play like Mikel.
Just as chidichris said, the earlier you stop hating him, the better he will be for all you haters of Mikel.

I have heard about "Heart Burn" but i'm not sure I understand what it means. Recently I feel some burn in my heart/throat after eating beans. Some people complain about this to me before, but i told them that I eat any food without any kind of side effect. Recently I have started feeling the heart/throat burn after eating beans. What could be responsible for this? Doc. in the house any idea?

SportsRe: English Premier League Has Destroyed African Football by binaflexia: 1:31pm On Feb 03, 2010
Though the poster made a good analysis of the present day Nigeria football, but I don't support the idea that the EPL has damaged Africa football. Taking Nigeria football has a critical example, we need to ask ourselves one simple question; are we actually developing football and other sports in Nigeria. If you blame the influence of EPL on Nigeria football, who will you blame for the failure of other sports in Nigeria. I hope you remember the last Olympic game and the number of gold and silver medals the Nigeria athlete won.
What we experience today in Nigeria football is a reflection of failure in the entire system. It is high time we stand up and face our problems and stop blaming others. We need to shun corruption and stop playing politics. Let competent hands be given the jobs to do. Let's look inward.
Let's develop our league and the people will support the local league. The EPL gained international recognition due to the level of development. Every genuine football lover will love to watch the EPL.

The easiest thing is to prescribe a drug that can constrict or dilate your pupils, but that's not recommended without a clinical exam. I would suggest going back over and over untill you see the right person in that department of ophthalmology. Just tell them you still don't fell better---- many doctors would be obliged to investigate or even research your case.
Or try another hospital, if you can afford it.
Thanks sir for you advice, input and time. I will following it up. I'm really grateful. Once again, thank you!

You seem to have a problem adjusting the focus of your eye-lens from the near-sighted reading aperture to the far sighted aperture you need to navigate your everyday environment. This problem could be related to the 6 small muscles that move and rotate the eye, lenses, and the lid as needed. These mucles and their nerves could be dysfunctional or the nervous pathway could be dysfunctional. If you have seen an optometrist a couple of times and without much result, I would suggest that you go see an ophthamologist. Don't give up.
Thanks for the prompt reply. When i went to the teaching hospital in my town, i was directed to an ophthamologist center. I think they were the one that recommended the second lens. The surprising part of it is that none of them has even prescribe a drug for me. I hope you can help.
