Nigerian Nurses and Zero Confidentiality: A Short Ward Drama 😭🏥

We talk about medical ethics, patient privacy, and HIPAA charts in textbooks, but the moment some of our local nurses resume morning shift on the ward, all that grammar just flies out the window. Imagine an early-morning hungry man sitting quietly in a heavily crowded general outpatient reception, already sweating from anxiety. The AC is always on but never chills.

Suddenly, a senior nurse walks out of the treatment room, looks over the entire crowd of patients, and to her colleague at the records desk she asks in what she felt was a low tone: "Nurse Chika! Abeg where is that Syphilis man that came in this morning?" Omo, shame wear me djellaba me wey wan be good citizen to coem do the routine HIV checks. I don die.

The entire waiting room went ice-cold immediately. Everybody slowly turned their heads, scanning the rows of chairs, trying to spot the official owner of the title. The poor patient, face burning with heavy embarrassment, raised his hand slightly and muttered in an igbotic disguest ...politely, as we faked a smile and was standing slowly. Even me come dey pity am.

The nurse didn't even blink. She just flipped her folder, and said: "Oga there are a lot of people waiting. Should we call the next person?"

Highly uncalled for, completely unprofessional, but average daily behavior in a local clinic. Na so oga syphilis even nearly tumble for tiled floor a he missed a foot.

Anyways, back to discussion.

Here are 50 things we mostly do before/after or while visiting a clinic or hospital that may seem right but wrong:

1. Sharing prescription drugs with another patient on the ward because you feel your sickness is exactly the same as theirs. Lol.

2. Adjusting the drip (IV infusion) roller clamp yourself because you feel it is dropping too slowly and you want to go home early.

3. Stopping your prescribed antibiotics halfway because the symptoms have cleared and you claim you are healed by faith. Why didn't you meet your pastor naw

4. Sneaking traditional herbs or agbo inside your bag to drink under the bed sheets while orthodox medications are still running in your system.

5. Lying to the doctor about completing your previous medication dosage out of fear of being shouted at.

6. Taking paracetamol, antimalarials, and antibiotics at home for a week, and then telling the doctor you have not taken any drug at all when you arrive. Hehehe

7. Bringing a whole church group, your complete extended family, or a village meeting to crowd the bedside of a patient in an intensive care or general ward.

8. Sneaking heavy, oily solid food like pounded yam or highly seasoned pepper soup to a patient who is placed on a strict, medically managed diabetic or hypertensive diet.

9. Arguing or trying to bribe the security guard at the gate to let you in outside official visiting hours.

10. Waking up a heavily sedated or sleeping patient just to tap them and ask, "Sorry, how are you feeling now?"

11. Holding loud, aggressive prayer sessions, binding spirits, and screaming in a general ward, thereby disturbing other critically ill patients who desperately need quiet rest. Na these ones I detest the most

12. Allowing toddlers and young children to play on the hospital floor, run around corridors, or touch disposal bins during visits.

13. Sitting comfortably on the patient’s hospital bed instead of using the visitor's chair, introducing outside bacteria straight to their bedding.

14. Spitting phlegm or saliva into the bathroom hand-wash sink or out the window instead of using designated disposal units.

15. Touching or pressing buttons on medical monitors, oxygen concentrators, or adjusting catheters because you feel the tubes look uncomfortable.

16. Throwing used baby diapers, sanitary pads, or bloody cotton wool into the regular waste bin instead of the color-coded biohazard bins meant for clinical waste.

17. Walking straight from the streets into a ward to touch a newborn baby or an incision site without washing your hands or using a sanitizer.

18. Demanding to see the Chief Medical Director or the Doctor-in-Charge immediately because the queue to collect your medical folder is moving slowly.

19. Raining insults on the nurses on duty because the doctor has not arrived, forgetting that nurses do not control the doctors' transit or emergency schedules.

20. Utilizing an internal connection or "who you know" to bypass the emergency room queue when other patients are in far more critical, life-threatening conditions.

21. Complaining bitterly and shouting at the pharmacist or lab technician about the high cost of drugs and tests, as if they are the ones who set the hospital tariff.

22. Threatening medical staff with your social status, your uniform, or spiritual curses when procedures do not go exactly the way you imagined.

23. Begging or demanding that the doctor "just give me drip," believing that a treatment is completely useless unless it involves a fluid bag or an injection.

24. Assuming a young doctor is incompetent or clueless just because they opened a medical app or a manual on their phone to crosscheck a drug interaction.

25. Forcing water, herbal mixtures, or glucose into the mouth of an unconscious or convulsing patient to "revive" them, which causes the fluid to enter their lungs and suffocate them.

26. Forcefully discharging a patient "Against Medical Advice" to take them to a prayer house or a native doctor, only to bring them back to the emergency room when the condition becomes irreversible. You will see what you want, no worry...

27. Refusing a specific pill brand and demanding a particular color of drug because "the yellow capsule is what always cures my body."

28. Refusing life-saving blood transfusions for your dying relative based on personal theories that the blood might be spiritually contaminated or alter their destiny.

29. Sneaking out of the ward at night or jumping the hospital fence to abscond and avoid paying your accumulated medical bills. LOL.

30. Bringing out your smartphone to take photos or record videos of patients, accidents, or medical staff performing procedures without explicit permission.

31. Demanding an immediate X-ray or CT scan for a minor, everyday headache because you believe the doctor is playing with your health.

32. Looking directly at a female doctor wearing a stethoscope and calling her "Nurse," while insisting on waiting for a male counterpart whom you assume is the "real doctor."

33. Hiding your history of traditional scarification, spiritual treatments, or previous surgeries when the doctor is taking your medical history.

34. Pouring anointing oil or holy water directly into open surgical wounds or fresh burns on the ward, which introduces severe bacterial infections.

35. Aggressively pressurizing a doctor to write a fake medical report or issue an unearned sick leave certificate so you can skip work or school.

36. Openly blaming a child's obvious genetic or congenital health condition on a spiritual attack from your village elders right in front of the child and the medical team. Idi iberibe makachi

37. Leaving your urine or stool sample bottles uncovered on the laboratory counter, or exposing them to direct sunlight when you were instructed to keep them shaded.

38. Reusing old, disposable plastic water bottles to collect urine samples, or washing out specimen bottles with soap and water before filling them up.

39. Refusing to sign an emergency consent form for a life-saving surgery because you insist you must call your husband's elder brother or a church pastor first.

40. Expecting a doctor to diagnose a complex, long-standing medical issue in less than two minutes without allowing them to run proper laboratory investigations.

41. Giving a newborn baby herbal concoctions or heavy formulas in the maternity ward when the pediatricians have explicitly ordered strict, exclusive breastfeeding.

42. Practical cutting off your hospital identification wristband with a razor blade because you complain that it feels like a handcuff or ruins your outfit.

43. Treating a severe kitchen burn or hot oil scald at home with raw eggs, toothpaste, or palm oil before finally presenting at the hospital when the skin goes septic.

44. Shouting "God forbid!" and becoming deeply offended when a doctor suggests a psychiatric evaluation for a family member showing clear signs of severe mental illness. LOL. E erything, una go dey thin person don kolo

45. Bringing a critically injured patient to the emergency room and refusing to pay for a medical card or basic admission deposits, arguing that "life comes first" means everything must be free until you are ready.

46. Sitting heavily on the floors of the corridors, hallways, or emergency room staircases, effectively blocking the movement of emergency stretchers and crash carts.

47. Purposely hiding a patient's history of heavy smoking, drug abuse, or sexual history from the medical team due to family shame or stigma.

48. Peeling back a sterile surgical dressing with your bare fingers out of pure curiosity just to see if the operation wound is healing properly.

49. Making active phone calls or browsing directly next to sensitive life-support machines and ventilators where "No Mobile Phones" signs are clearly posted.

50. Believing that if a patient unfortunately passes away in the hospital, it is automatically the fault of the medical team, leading to the physical assault of doctors and the destruction of expensive hospital equipment.

Ok o. Which one una dey do??

FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

29TH AUGUST 2025

PRESS RELEASE

CLARIFICATION ON MINISTER'S STATEMENT REGARDING FGN-ASUU AGREEMENTS

The Honourable Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, wishes to clarify his statement made during an interaction with the press on August 28, 2025, regarding agreements between the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
For the avoidance of doubt, the FGN-ASUU Agreement was last signed in 2009. That agreement remains the most recent signed and binding agreement between the Federal Government and ASUU.
Subsequently, in 2017, the then Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, inaugurated a renegotiation committee to review the 2009 agreement. The outcome of that process was the draft Nimi Briggs Agreement produced in May 2021. However, it is important to stress that this 2021 draft agreement was not signed by the Federal Government.

When the Honourable Minister stated yesterday that there had been “no new signed agreement” with ASUU, he was referring specifically to the 2021 draft Nimi Briggs document, which has not been formally executed.

The Ministry therefore reaffirms that, The 2009 FGN-ASUU Agreement remains the last formally signed agreement, The 2021 Nimi Briggs draft agreement was not signed but serves as the latest framework for discussions. The Federal Government remains committed to ending the 16-year stalemate with ASUU in a sustainable and constitutionally backed manner, ensuring our universities remain open for teaching and research.

The Ministry of Education urges the public and all stakeholders to disregard any misinterpretations and to note that the Federal Government’s commitment to resolving issues with ASUU remains firm under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Good evening and happy new year to you all.
After months of ruminating over this idea, I am glad to manage the time to create a tread like this.
This tread is to further open Nigerians and foreigners alike who have the same passion of wealth creation via investing in the United States stock markets.
As you may know, the market in the US is mirrored by the indices such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA), The Standard & Purse (S&P) and the NASDAQ.
The whole essence is to have a pool of both inexperienced but interested would-be investors, and experienced resource persons who are willing to give back to the society by making informed analysis and opinions on the developments in the world markets and how members of this forum can make informed investment decisions accordingly.
I have tasted a bit of this market and can confirm that the world is a global village and that anyone can trade in the US market and make real US dollars from profits made.
For instance, I took a good look at the newly listed company called Virgin Galactic with thicker symbol (SPCE) and bought some shares at $8.20 on the 9th of December 2019. After watching it for a while and doing some more due diligence, I bought much more on the 10th of December 2019 at $9.23 as it kept rising.
As I type this piece to create this tread today the 4th of February 2020, it is trading at $19.56 per share! And am not a genius.

Gentle men and ladies, we can make a lot of money if we pool our wealth of knowledge and turn it into tangible financial cash cow.
This is not a get rich quick scheme, never a ponzi scheme, neither is this intended for any sort of internet fraud.
Wealth requires hard work (mental and intellectual) mixed with a good dose of patience.
I believe we are very many out there looking for legitimate source of building wealth.
This is just one more avenue we can utilize to team up together to accelerate our financial freedom.
Knowledge they say is power, but until acquired knowledge is applied, there can never be power.

Therefore I humbly declare this forum open to all chartists, fundamentalists, and freshers alike.
Lets keep it simple, no fighting or bullying grin, be of matured conduct, engage intelligently, add some humour, have lots of fun and of course make money together in the process.
Wow...the Dow has already jumped 500 points today shocked, rebounding from the slide caused by the coronavirus in China!

Let me give you a brotherly advice, and I hope you work on it...
First of all I counsel people and I have done that on nairaland for a while... I have met great and good guys...
I dropped a story about my experience teaching in two schools as a corper and would not mind partnering with schools in abuja, but some accused me of looking for teaching job... Never ever mind what people say...
Back to the matter...
As a graduate, teaching and earning 15k, e no bad... But once you have a good (android) phone, go to any car stand of your choice around your area... Listen well, any good car stand and ask to see the manager... Tell him you want to help him market his cars and get good buyers... 90% of car stand managers will sign u on... Tel him you will be paid a small commission after sales...
Pick up your phone, snap as many cars as your phone memory can take, open a dedicated twitter ac, IG ac, Facebook ac, WhatsApp ac, ac etc... Take out time to post this cars, make sure you have the actual prices of this cars... You can add as much as #250k on it... Bring down the negotiations to as low as making #50k if need be just so I can sell. Set your monthly target... I assure you, if you get I client in a month, u make around #100,000k once you start growing, you can get as much as 5-10 client from all over the country and that hits you over #1m for just helping others sell their cars, Note all you invested was your time, energy, phone and data... No big financial capital...
Do not restrict yourself to cars, go for industrial machines as well, caterpillars, mikano gens, any thing, then you look for those big companies that need them and try to call their attention to it or market it to them... You may not sell in 3 months but when you manage to get a client to buy just 1 caterpillars, my brother you will instantly forget that u suffered before...
A friend of mine was marketing a silo for a local wielder, he received a call all the way from kebbi state, the purchase was made in Ilorin, he made #1.8 mil from buyers and #400k from seller... He still got a referral from that deal. Wake up bro...
Within a month or two, come and pay (tite).
I drive uber/bolt in abuja, market cars, sell commodities such as beans, maize, wheat, ginger, onions, name it... In bags and tonnes
And I make nothing less than half a mil monthly...
You made my day. This is the best response on this platform in recent times.

There's no justification whatsoever for this kind of beating.

But please i urge everybody to try and hear from the guy also before making comments. It will help us all.

Ifenyinwa just gave her own side of the story, how about the guy's side.

Six years ago when the wedding came up, we were so sure a day as this will come.

This girl shouldn't for any reason bring this to social.media. there's a family to report and families will handle this.

If we start saying things about her on social media, days will not be enough for her Chronicles.

Where do we even start? Do we start from her toxic mother getting pregnant for another man and pining it down on her father, later she will openly tell the whole Irette community that her husband is.impotent and that Ifenyinwa's father is different from her husband?

Do we start from her toxic mother terrorising the peaceful Irette community that earned her the popular name " TRANSFORMER," meaning when ever a transformer blows, everywhere will be calm. That name came about when her mother fought a mobile policeman and injured him seriously in the ear.

Do we start from her father grabbing the properties of her late elder sister till date claiming it's his ?

Do we talk about her mother travelling to Ijebu Ode for some stupid juju, only to have a terrible accident at St. Helen's Catholic Church Irette few minutes to her home?

Do we even talk about her mother confessing to terrible things she did , before her death?

Do we start talking about her early days in Bishop Lasbrey Girls Secondary School? Where when her father gives her school fees, she will put it in am envelope , and tell her classmates that her father from Abuja just sent her money, meanwhile her father is a driver in Owerri.

Do we talk about her promiscuity at early stage. In life? Let her kindly explain the circumstances that brought about " DADDY TAKE IT EASY IT IS PAINING ME". Her sexual escapades abound as a student in Bishop Lasbrey, her school mates can attest to this.

Do.we even talk about the illicit affair she was having with a certain prominent man from Irette who was also spraying her money during their wedding that people who knew what's up were laughing at the husband?

Do we talk about her wayward way of dressing even after her wedding?

There's a reason why Igbos around did not marry her, because when they ask questions and make enquires, they know she's just a girlfriend and not a wife.

It's unfortunate this guy used a girlfriend for a wife.

For anybody that cares to know more about this girl, please visit Onwu's compound in Irette, Owerri , Imo state and ask about her, you will understand better the kind of toxic personality she is.

NB : I am not holding brief for the husband. I am just seeing his picture for the first time now.
Thank you . You have said it all.
