FSA hits Nigerian mortgage broker with £100,000 fine A mortgage broker who hid a criminal record and asked that regulators travel to Nigeria to interview him has been barred from practising and fined more than £100,000 by the City watchdog in a sign of its renewed determination to use hefty fines to deter wrongdoing. The Financial Services Authority said Gabriel Aramide, director of 1st Point, a company based in Romford, Essex, obtained a false mortgage for himself by overstating his income. He also failed to tell the regulator of his criminal record for fraud, the FSA said. http://www.propertyweek.com/story.asp?sectioncode=297&storycode=3140270&c=1 |

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to hold an emergency meeting today to resolve the alleged N250 million bribe said to have been given to some of its staff who participated in the last governorship rerun in Ekiti state. Sources in Abuja confirmed to the Nigerian Tribune that the Commission will hold a meeting of its National Commissioners and the management which will be presided over by the Chairman, Prof. Maurice Iwu. Media reports had indicated last week that some staff of the commission were being questioned by the Police over allegations that some of them had the sum of N250 million earmarked for them as gift by one of the political parties that participated in the election. The Police unit in INEC office in Abuja headed by DCP J B Awelewa, had interrogated some members of staff of INEC over the allegation, which blew into the open shortly after the rerun on April 25. http://www.tribune.com.ng/12052009/news/news4.html |
The Anglican Church rose from its seventh synod at the St Peters Anglican Church, Minna, Niger State, on Sunday, concluding that the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has failed the nation. The synod noted that “Nigerians are still hungry, poor, malnourished, unemployed, diseased, insecure, illiterate and underemployed”. In a three-page communique released at the end of the first session of the synod, the church noted that “the prices of rice and other essential commodities have continued to rise, electricity supply has become even more epileptic and the long queues at fuel stations have reappeared and are persisting in spite of government’s assurances to the contrary.” The synod, according to the communique, therefore, called on the ruling party members “to judge how well they are performing.” It also reminded the party that “it is only two years away to seek a fresh mandate from these suffering poverty-stricken Nigerians.” The synod also observed that the rerun elections in the country had continued to be bedevilled by “brazen frauds and political intolerance.” It, therefore, concluded that if government was serious about conducting credible elections and carrying out electoral reforms, “corrupt officials at Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must first be flushed out while the laws should be amended to make all electoral malpractices and misconducts punishable at a minimum by life imprisonment.” http://www.tribune.com.ng/12052009/news/news21.html |

enohj2ee:Let me stop right there - God is not angry . The holy scriptures says " God has made peace with all men" . The same God also says " You will reap whatever you sow" . In Nigeria we are constantly sowing corruption thus the harvest, |

simiad:did you lose money because you gave it somebody ? Your information is so vital. |
We got the labour - but we lack the enabling environment for large scale outsourcing. Until infrastructure, infrastructure ,infrastructure, somehow happens in Nigeria - Forget it. The simply fact of the matter " Business are in it for profit". |
Lax75:I dont you agree that you can use this the context to define a failed state. Is Zimbawe or somali not failed states. Your argument is clearly flawed because population still exists in these two countries. Anybody saying Nigeria is failed state is technically wrong but slightly closer to the truth. What i know - Nigeria is clearly showing trends of failed states if things are not reversed then maybe in another 10 or 15 years we will surely arrive at the status of a failed state. |
please can we advocate for oworonshoki state. |
