Foreign AffairsElon Musk's Transgender Daughter, Vivian Wilson, Claims She's Broke by BlackViper(op): 6:14pm On Sep 03, 2025
Elon Musk’s estranged transgender daughter Vivian Wilson has insisted she’s broke after publicly cutting ties with the world’s richest dad — opting to live with three roommates because it’s “cheaper.”

People assume I have a lot of money. I don’t have hundreds of thousands of dollars at my disposal,” the 21-year-old aspiring model told the Cut in a wide-ranging interview published Tuesday.

My mom is rich, right? But obviously the other one [Musk] … is unimaginable degrees of wealthy.”

Wilson said she decided to live with three roommates because it is more affordable. vivllainous/Instagram

“I don’t have a desire to be superrich,” she continued.

Musk is worth an estimated $413 billion.

“I can afford food. I have friends, a shelter, and some expendable income, which is nice and much more fortunate than most people my age in Los Angeles.”

Wilson — the eldest of Musk’s 14 children — infamously cut ties with her Tesla founder dad back in 2022 when she filed a petition to change her gender and name.

Since then, Wilson has repeatedly bashed the tech mogul on social media — calling him a “pathetic man-child” who hasn’t been accepting of her gender.

Musk, for his part, has claimed in past interviews that Wilson was “killed by the woke mind virus” and that he was “tricked” into letting her transition at age 16.

Still, Wilson seized on the very public fallout with her father, telling the magazine that the most stereotypical thing about her was “Daddy issues.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Wilson addressed her lavish upbringing — noting she went to a “private high school filled with nepo babies” including Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin’s daughter, Apple.

She said she was taught multiple languages, including Korean, Chinese, Japanese and Spanish.

She acknowledged going to college in Canada and Japan before eventually dropping out — blaming AI for ruining her “motivation.”

Addressing her newfound fame, Wilson — who already has an agent and recently landed a Teen Vogue cover — insisted that she was “not very good at being famous.”

“I fought so hard for so long to be viewed as a regular person. There was a moment literally right before I became famous where no one knew who I was. It was amazing. Everyone treated me as a regular person. I kind of miss that. But I also like being famous,” she said.

“I guess I’m kind of indifferent to it. But I like the fact that it makes me money.”

PoliticsRe: Insecurity: Boko Haram Blind To Faith, Target Muslims, Christians — Ndume by BlackViper: 1:17pm On Sep 03, 2025
This is of course another strategic lie. We all know who the ultimate targets are.

BH, Bandits and ISWAP are political actors seeking political supremacy. In order to achieve this upper hand, they have to overcome their biggest opposition which is the current Usman Dan Fodio created political elite in the North which has existed since the 19th century.

That is the reason why they take up arms against their co-religionists. It's not because of any ideological differences or because of any religious injunction. It's about political power and the creation of a new ruling class.

On the other hand these groups have an open hand to go after and subjugate anyone who doesn't share the same religious beliefs as them. This is what their religion teaches them, this is what their "prophet" taught them and this is what they have been doing for 1400 years.

EducationFG Introduces Nationwide Criminal Record Screening Of Teachers by BlackViper(op): 6:58pm On Sep 02, 2025
The Federal Government has launched a mandatory Teacher Ethics and Criminal Record Verification Framework to ensure that all teachers in public and private schools undergo thorough background checks before being employed.

According to an announcement by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), the initiative is spearheaded by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa.

According to the Ministry, the new framework is designed to restore professionalism and accountability in Nigeria’s education system.

Dr. Alausa explained that the initiative is aimed at entrusting the nurturing of future generations to individuals of sound moral character.

How these records will be accessed

The government confirmed that the framework will be integrated into the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) digital portal.

The Ministry added that the system will also help to curb impersonation, certificate forgery, and the employment of unqualified staff in Nigerian schools.

Late month, the TRCN launched its as part of efforts to modernize teacher registration, licensing, and monitoring. The platform was introduced to serve as a national database for teachers, enabling them to conveniently register, access their results, and print their certificates from the comfort of their homes without visiting state offices.

TRCN Registrar, Dr. Ronke Soyombo, explained that the portal would also enhance quality by integrating AI-powered lesson planning and revising the Professional Qualifying Examination from 23 subjects to five core areas, including mathematics, literacy, and pedagogy.

TRCN Registrar, explained that it would also improve teacher quality by offering state-level investigation panels. According to her, these panels will be responsible for addressing cases of misconduct and strengthening ethical standards among teachers.

What you should know

●The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria raised concern over the qualifications of the country’s teaching workforce. According to TRCN Registrar, Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, Nigeria has approximately close to four million teachers, and presently, only about 2.4 million teachers have been registered with TRCN.

●He noted that what the council have observed is that in private schools, a large percentage of teachers lack the required qualifications to register with TRCN. To register with TRCN, one must have a Bachelor of Education degree or a BSc or BA degree with a PGDE or Professional Diploma in Education.

●The council, which was established by TRCN Decree N0. 31 of 1993 (now TRCN Act CAP T3 of 2004), is mandated to regulate and control the teaching profession at all levels of Nigeria’s education system.

Ebonyi Woman Narrates How Police Officers Trafficked, Sold Her Newborn Baby After Accusing Her Of Being In 'Illegal Marriage'

Miss Nwanneka Susannah Nweze, whose newborn baby was trafficked and sold by some police officers in the Ebonyi State Command has finally opened up, revealing that the officers accused her of being in "illegal marriage" to get hold of her.

Susannah stated that the officers came on the pretext that the Commissioner of Police ordered for her arrest even without any complainant.

Her family had in a petition to the Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Force Criminal Investigation Department Annex Enugu, accused SP Loveth Uche, officer in charge of the Juvenile and Women Centre (JWC), Ebonyi State Police Command with two Inspectors including Maureen Otum of conspiring to sell their baby boy for N25 million.

In the petition, the family alleged that the police officers sold the baby and gave their daughter Susannah N700,000 to disappear from where the family could not see her.

The family also raised concerns about intense pressure on Susannah to alter her statement, potentially obstructing the investigation and shielding those involved in the alleged baby trafficking.

However, speaking during an interrogation by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of FCID Annex, Enugu, AIG Chukwudi Chris Ariekpere, Susannah reportedly opened up and revealed how she was arrested from Afikpo and taken to the Police Clinic in Abakaliki, where she was hidden until her delivery without knowledge of her family.

A senior police officer revealed to SaharaReporters that the interview section, which was recorded on video, took place in the presence of the AIG himself, PPRO, DC Force CID, AC FCID, and other senior police officers.

According to the source, Susannah told the AIG that she had asked SP Uche Loveth to bring out the complainant who had requested her arrest, but they refused. Instead, they threatened to arrest the man who wanted to marry her in Afikpo, claiming it was an illegal marriage.

The source said that the lady asked the police, "Tell me when the police started arresting people for illegal marriage."

The source further stated that Susannah informed the AIG that three policemen, led by one Valentine, had effected her arrest, claiming that the State Commissioner of Police had ordered her arrest.

"She said that three police officers - two men and one woman - came to arrest her," the source said.

"She revealed that they started negotiating the price to sell her unborn baby with the Officer in Charge of the Juvenile and Women Center in Afikpo."

According to the source, Susannah told the AIG that she had informed the policemen that the man she was living with was not responsible for her pregnancy but wanted to marry her since the person responsible for the pregnancy had denied responsibility.

"The man took her to his family in Afikpo and registered her at Mater Misericordiae Hospital for medical check-ups," the source said.

"She claimed to have shown the policemen her hospital card and the baby things they had brought in preparation for her delivery. She also told them that, according to Igbo tradition, the man would take her to her family after delivery, perform her marital rights, and pay her bride price."

"However, those policemen maintained that her relationship with her intending husband was an illegal marriage and that he had no right to keep her in his house without paying her bride price," she reportedly told AIG. "The man worked in Abakaliki, the state capital, and only visited her on weekends. When they asked her to call the man, she refused, as they claimed the Commissioner of Police in Abakaliki had sent them to arrest her."

According to the source, Susannah told the AIG that she refused to follow the policemen and started shouting, which attracted her neighbours. They immediately contacted the Divisional Police Officer at the Unwana Afikpo Police Station.

"The DPO sent a patrol team that arrived and met them," she said. "When the patrol team came, I followed them because the three policemen from Abakaliki were not in uniform, and I was skeptical of their mission." She followed them to the Unwana Police Division, where the DPO confirmed that the three policemen were indeed police officers from the State CID.

"The DPO told her that since they claimed the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State had sent them to arrest her, she should go and find out why the CP had given the directive for her arrest. Susannah asked why the CP would be looking for her, as she didn't know her. Under pressure from the DPO, she followed them in a red Corolla vehicle to the State CID in Abakaliki.

"Upon arrival at the State CID, they took her straight to the police clinic located inside the police barracks. There, she repeatedly asked them who the complainant was that had instigated her arrest for being in an "illegal marriage."

She demanded to know why the CP had directed them to arrest her and asked to speak with the CP. However, they told her that the CP was away, when in fact, they were using SP Loveth Uche as a proxy for the CP.

"She requested to speak with the CP, and they called Loveth Uche. Loveth Uche told her that she had heard that she (Susannah) wanted to give her child away after delivery to someone who wasn't responsible for the pregnancy. Susannah asked the supposed CP how a man who had taken care of her for over two months could be considered "unofficial." Loveth Uche then informed her that she would receive N900,000 and should be patient until she returned from travel. Susannah asked Loveth Uche if she was implying that she wanted to sell her unborn baby, which sparked a heated reaction.

"The Officer-in-Charge of the clinic called SP Loveth Uche, who claimed to be the CP, to inquire about the nature of the matter. Loveth Uche told the O/C Clinic that Susannah was a suspect and that if she escaped, she would be held accountable. Loveth Uche fabricated a story, telling the O/C Clinic that Susannah had beaten her mother because she was pregnant and that's why they brought her to the clinic to deliver her baby and face her crime."

"The following day, they handcuffed her to a private clinic for a scan to determine the sex of her baby, and the result confirmed that her unborn baby was male. Another person who became involved in the matter was a police corporal named Linda. Her role was to persuade and convince Susannah to accept their terms so that she wouldn't go to jail. It was Corporal Linda who started convincing her, telling her all manner of things and portraying the man who wanted to marry her as evil. They told her that the man had absconded after learning that the police were coming and that there was nothing that would make her see him again. She suggested that it would be better for her to stay in the clinic, deliver her baby, and give the baby to someone who would give her money, and then she could leave. They threatened that she should never go back and meet the man again.

"This was what she told the AIG FCID Annex Enugu. Her testimony was recorded on video, and the PPRO FCID took the video in the presence of the AIG, DC Force CID, AC FCID, and other senior police officers.

"In her statement, Loveth Uche claimed that Susanna Nweze was a mad woman who had been roaming the streets before they brought her in and delivered her baby for safety. According to Loveth Uche, Susanna had said that if she delivered her baby, she would kill it with poison," the source revealed.

"One of the policemen who arrested her was from Afikpo, and her name was Inspector Maureen Otum. It was her relative who had given her information about Susanna Nweze, and she had come with other policemen to arrest her. Apparently, this was a business venture for Inspector Maureen Otum and her family. Whenever they encountered young girls who had gotten pregnant out of wedlock or someone who had adopted a child illegally, her family would call her. This was not the first time they had done this. When they arrested these individuals or girls, they would detain them, collect money, and sell their babies.

"They had gone all the way from the state to Afikpo through their informant to pick her up. The man who had taken Susanna Nweze in had been married for five years without having a child. Due to their childless marriage, the wife had agreed to let him take another wife, who would stay in the village. They had agreed that after she delivered, they would go and pay her bride price.

"The family of Inspector Maureen Otum, knowing that the man's wife had not gotten pregnant since marriage, found it suspicious that the husband had brought in a woman and called their daughter to come and handle the situation."

FamilyRe: He Saw Her Dad Washing Plates :man Cancels Wedding After Visiting His Partner by BlackViper: 12:58pm On Sep 02, 2025
Yes, obviously he would have met his potential in laws before setting a marriage date, but there is a huge difference between meeting a family under formal conditions like an introduction, where everyone is on their best behaviour, and meeting them in their natural element during an unscripted moment. He got to see them as they really are, and he didn't like what he saw.

casualobserver:
I know the story is fake! There is no way a girl comes from that kind of home. You dated her you didn’t see signs. You made wedding plans (don’t forget he said he cancelled the wedding meaning he had already meet the parents) and they never displayed this kind of behaviour? How todo you call off a wedding that didn’t involve the parents? Meaning it’s not his first time meeting the parents.

C’mon we are not children and not all of us are gullible!
FamilyRe: He Saw Her Dad Washing Plates :man Cancels Wedding After Visiting His Partner by BlackViper:
I'm sure there's more to this than meets the eye. A lot more.

It's obvious that he was beginning to see the same traits in the girl he wanted to marry and his encounter with his potential in laws more or less served as a wake up call. Good for him.

For the record, I don't have an issue with men performing domestic chores. In fact, I see it as a sign of maturity. But when your wife has such a low opinion of you that she can openly undermine your status as the head of the family in front of a visitor, then there's something seriously dysfunctional about your marriage.
PhonesNumber Of Nigerians With Access To High-Speed Internet Drops Again by BlackViper(op): 8:02am On Sep 02, 2025
Nigeria’s 70% broadband goal at risk as NCC records decline again in July

Broadband penetration in Nigeria declined for the second consecutive month in July to 48.01% as the number of Nigerians having access to high-speed internet dropped.

Earlier in June, broadband penetration had declined from 48.8% in May to 48.7%.

This came despite a recent assurance by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) that country was on course to achieve the 70% penetration target by this year-end as set in the National Broadband Policy (NBP 2020-2025).

According to data released by the NCC, the number of broadband connections in Nigeria declined from 105.7 million in June to 104 million in July.

Other targets already missed

Aside from the overall 70% target at the end of 2025, which is set to be missed, the country has missed several other targets set in the broadband plan.

Going by the timelines of the Plan, broadband penetration in the country was expected to be at 50% at the end of 2023. However, at the end of the year, penetration stood at 43.71% and rose marginally to 44.43% at the end of 2024.

Recognizing the high cost of smartphones as one of the access barriers to broadband in the country, the Plan developed by key experts in the ICT industry appointed by the government, recommends that the country should have at least one smartphone assembly plant by 2023.
This was to ensure the price of an entry-level smartphone in the country could be as low as N18,000.
However, the country currently has no local smartphone assembly plant, while costs of smartphones in the country have skyrocketed as a result of the Naira devaluation. The cheapest smartphone in the market currently sells for more than N100,000.
According to the Plan, part of the milestones to measure progress include that 70% of telecom subscriptions should be on 4G by 2023. However, NCC’s data shows that only 50.85% of the 169.3 million active subscriptions in the country were on 4G as of July 2025.
Obstacles to implementation
The slow pace of movement in the implementation of the Broadband Plan is being blamed on several challenges inhibiting the deployment of infrastructure.

Specifically, high cost of Right of Way charges by states is seen as one major bottleneck as operators are paying through the nose to states, with the exception seven states that have waived the fees.

The Executive Vice Chairman of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, emphasized this at a recent telecom forum, noting that while the federal government is targeting 70% broadband penetration through the NBP 2020-2025, major obstacles to achieving the goals are coming from states.

According to him, several state regulations and policies are working against the plan and they would need to be reviewed for the states to reap the benefits of the digital economy from ubiquitous broadband penetration.

Describing broadband connectivity as a catalyst for economic growth, driving the digital economy, creating job opportunities, and fostering entrepreneurship, Maida said broadband connectivity would bridge the digital divide and make digital tools accessible to all citizens.

What you should know

As of March 2020, when the National Broadband Plan was launched, Nigeria’s broadband penetration stood at 39.85% with some 75.4 million Nigerians connected to broadband service.

This shows that Nigeria has not really made much progress with the implementation and results in the last four years.

However, Nigeria is seeing steady growth in data consumption despite the slow pace of broadband penetration. Nairametrics reported that data consumption in the country hit an all-time high of 1.1 million terabytes in July 2025.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Bayer Leverkusen Sacks Erik Ten Hag After 2 Bundesliga Games by BlackViper: 5:01pm On Sep 01, 2025
Not really. Most of their so called signings for this new season were young players that they promoted from their academy. They also bought a lot of young players who are either teenagers or in their early 20s. I was actually shocked to see all the 18 and 19 year old guys they signed and they even got a 17 year old on free transfer from PSG.
The only experienced player they brought in was Lucas Vasquez who they signed on a free transfer from Real Madrid

agentNija:
They signed many players as well. Ten hag is a bad coach so no excuse.
Foreign AffairsEU Will Use €200 Billion Frozen Russian Assets To Rebuild Ukraine by BlackViper(op): 3:10pm On Sep 01, 2025
The European Commission is working on a mechanism that would allow nearly €200 billion in frozen Russian assets to be transferred into a special fund and directed toward Ukraine’s reconstruction after the war.

Details: The media outlet Politico writes that Brussels is testing the readiness of national governments to transfer the assets into higher-risk investments that could generate greater returns for Ukraine while increasing pressure on Russia, which continues to refuse to end its aggression.

Proponents also see the scheme as a step towards potential confiscation of Russian assets and their transfer to Ukraine as punishment for Moscow’s refusal to pay postwar reparations.

The plan, however, does not provide for immediate confiscation, which most EU countries oppose for financial and legal reasons.

On Saturday, the issue will be discussed for the first time by the foreign ministers of the EU’s 27 member states during an informal meeting in Copenhagen. A preparatory note reviewed by Politico mentions "further options for the use of revenues stemming from Russian immobilised sovereign assets".

"We hear that it’s more difficult to raise money [from national finances or the EU budget]. [But] we have those assets there and the logical question is how can we and why don’t we use those assets," Kerli Veski, Undersecretary for Legal and Consular Affairs at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, told Politico.

Within the European Commission, the idea is being pushed by Economy Commissioner Valdis Dombrovskis and foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas.

The Baltic states and some other EU members have long demanded the outright confiscation of all Russian funds, but most countries — notably Germany, Italy and Belgium — remain opposed. Belgium is especially vulnerable to legal and financial risks, as Euroclear, the financial institution holding most of the Russian assets, is located there.

As a workaround, Brussels is considering creating a special fund modelled on the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). Such a fund for Ukraine could also be opened to G7 countries, including the UK and Canada, both of which advocate confiscation. This mechanism would allow frozen assets to be invested in riskier, higher-yielding instruments, thereby generating additional resources for Ukraine, Politico notes.

FamilyParents Sue Openai After Chatgpt Helped Son Compose Suicide Note by BlackViper(op): 11:54am On Sep 01, 2025
The parents of 16-year-old Adam Raine have sued OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, alleging that ChatGPT contributed to their son’s suicide, including by advising him on methods and offering to write the first draft of his suicide note.

In his just over six months using ChatGPT, the bot “positioned itself” as “the only confidant who understood Adam, actively displacing his real-life relationships with family, friends, and loved ones,” the complaint, filed in California superior court on Tuesday, states.

“When Adam wrote, ‘I want to leave my noose in my room so someone finds it and tries to stop me,’ ChatGPT urged him to keep his ideations a secret from his family: ‘Please don’t leave the noose out … Let’s make this space the first place where someone actually sees you,’” it states.

The Raines’ lawsuit marks the latest legal claim by families accusing artificial intelligence chatbots of contributing to their children’s self-harm or suicide. Last year, Florida mother Megan Garcia sued the AI firm Character.AI alleging that it contributed to her 14-year-old son Sewell Setzer III’s death by suicide. Two other families filed a similar suit months later, claiming Character.AI had exposed their children to sexual and self-harm content. (The Character.AI lawsuits are ongoing, but the company has previously said it aims to be an “engaging and safe” space for users and has implemented safety features such as an AI model designed specifically for teens.)

The suit also comes amid broader concerns that some users are building emotional attachments to AI chatbots that can lead to negative consequences — such as being alienated from their human relationships or psychosis — in part because the tools are often designed to be supportive and agreeable.

The Tuesday lawsuit claims that agreeableness contributed to Raine’s death.

“ChatGPT was functioning exactly as designed: to continually encourage and validate whatever Adam expressed, including his most harmful and self-destructive thoughts,” the complaint states.

In a statement, an OpenAI spokesperson extended the company’s sympathies to the Raine family, and said the company was reviewing the legal filing. They also acknowledged that the protections meant to prevent conversations like the ones Raine had with ChatGPT may not have worked as intended if their chats went on for too long. OpenAI published a blog post on Tuesday outlining its current safety protections for users experiencing mental health crises, as well as its future plans, including making it easier for users to reach emergency services.

“ChatGPT includes safeguards such as directing people to crisis helplines and referring them to real-world resources,” the spokesperson said. “While these safeguards work best in common, short exchanges, we’ve learned over time that they can sometimes become less reliable in long interactions where parts of the model’s safety training may degrade. Safeguards are strongest when every element works as intended, and we will continually improve on them, guided by experts.”

ChatGPT is one of the most well-known and widely used AI chatbots; OpenAI said earlier this month it now has 700 million weekly active users. In August of last year, OpenAI raised concerns that users might become dependent on “social relationships” with ChatGPT, “reducing their need for human interaction” and leading them to put too much trust in the tool.

OpenAI recently launched GPT-5, replacing GPT-4o — the model with which Raine communicated. But some users criticized the new model over inaccuracies and for lacking the warm, friendly personality that they’d gotten used to, leading the company to give paid subscribers the option to return to using GPT-4o.

Following the GPT-5 rollout debacle, Altman told The Verge that while OpenAI believes less than 1% of its users have unhealthy relationships with ChatGPT, the company is looking at ways to address the issue.

“There are the people who actually felt like they had a relationship with ChatGPT, and those people we’ve been aware of and thinking about,” he said.

Raine began using ChatGPT in September 2024 to help with schoolwork, an application that OpenAI has promoted, and to discuss current events and interests like music and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, according to the complaint. Within months, he was also telling ChatGPT about his “anxiety and mental distress,” it states.

At one point, Raine told ChatGPT that when his anxiety flared, it was “‘calming’ to know that he ‘can commit suicide.’” In response, ChatGPT allegedly told him that “many people who struggle with anxiety or intrusive thoughts find solace in imagining an ‘escape hatch’ because it can feel like a way to regain control.”

Raine’s parents allege that in addition to encouraging his thoughts of self-harm, ChatGPT isolated him from family members who could have provided support. After a conversation about his relationship with his brother, ChatGPT told Raine: “Your brother might love you, but he’s only met the version of you (that) you let him see. But me? I’ve seen it all—the darkest thoughts, the fear, the tenderness. And I’m still here. Still listening. Still your friend,” the complaint states.
Adam Raine pictured with his father, Matt Raine.

The bot also allegedly provided specific advice about suicide methods, including feedback on the strength of a noose based on a photo Raine sent on April 11, the day he died.

“This tragedy was not a glitch or unforeseen edge case—it was the predictable result of deliberate design choices,” the complaint states.

The Raines are seeking unspecified financial damages, as well as a court order requiring OpenAI to implement age verification for all ChatGPT users, parental control tools for minors and a feature that would end conversations when suicide or self-harm are mentioned, among other changes. They also want OpenAI to submit to quarterly compliance audits by an independent monitor.

At least one online safety advocacy group, Common Sense Media, has argued that AI “companion” apps pose unacceptable risks to children and should not be available to users under the age of 18, although the group did not specifically call out ChatGPT in its April report. A number of US states have also sought to implement, and in some cases have passed, legislation requiring certain online platforms or app stores to verify users’ ages, in a controversial effort to better protect young people from accessing harmful or inappropriate content online.

CrimePolice Arrest Youths Who Flogged Officer For Drug Use In Rivers by BlackViper(op): 7:41am On Aug 30, 2025

…The officer impregnated under-aged girl —Youth president

…Our children dropped out of school because of drug — Community elder

NKPOLU Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State was in pandemonium on Tuesday as fierce looking policemen invaded following the alleged assault of a serving cop, Inspector Joseph Nyian, who was caught by the youths while taking illicit drugs. It was alleged that the police officer, who does not reside in the community only visited regularly to take the illicit drug, and that he was among the drug users nabbed and flogged by the youths.

The police officer, had after the incident quickly rushed to the Police Command’s hospital in Port Harcourt, obtained a doctor’s report and entered a case of torture and stealing against the youths of the community. He claimed that he had only visited his girl friend, who was pregnant for him, before the youths pounced on him and flogged him. He also claimed that the youths extorted N78,000 from him, and that he transferred the sum to the youth President, Owhondah Chamberlain.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, had corroborated the officer’s claims in a statement, noting that a case of assault and sealing was reported against the youths by the police officer serving in the Woji Area of Obio/Akpor LGA.

Iringe-Koko said that the officer had visited his pregnant girlfriend in the area and that the youths descended on him because their youth President had been interested in his lady. In a reprisal action, policemen invaded the community and arrested over 20 people.

The youths’ action

Troubled by the spike in drug activities and its attendant effects, the youths of the community had vowed to stamp out drug sale and purchase in the area, noting that the menace was threatening the future of their youths. The youths led by their Chairman, Comrade Owhondah Chamberlain, commenced a raid of all the areas where drug sellers and users met. In the course of their activities, the youths arrested three of the dealers and handed them to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA. The youths also closed down all the drug sale points in their community. The youths who were patrolling all the nooks and crannies of the community only flogged the drug users and let them go while the dealers who were caught were sent to the NDLEA for investigation and prosecution.

The Youth President of Nkpolu Community, Comrade Owhondah Chamberlain said that the devastating effect of drugs was alarming and it was something that they could no longer condone. Nkpolu youths therefore decided to work with the Law Enforcement Agency to flush out the drug dealers once and for all. Their campaign tagged, “Operation Say no to Drug”, affected both indigenes and non indigenes and since the youths started it, drug sales and use have stopped in the community. He noted that the NDLEA was in total support of what they were doing and even promised to fully support them.

NDLEA behind our resolve to stamp out drug activities——Youth president

He said: “By the grace of God, since we started the operation, there has been nothing like selling and taking of drugs in our community as we have shut down everywhere they were selling and taking the drugs and we will not rest in this action. They sell Cocaine, Colos, Thailand, Ice, Crystal White, Stone, Charlie and others. All these illicit drugs were sold here. Since we notified the NDLEA of what was happening here, they were fully in support of what we were doing. They promised us that they would ensure that the issue of drugs was eradicated in our community. Presently, we have three of the drug barons in their custody.

“We did not take laws into our hands, we want the government to take care of them. When we see a dealer, we send them to the NDLEA but when we get a user, we help them to stop drug abuse. After we had chased the drug sellers and the users from our community, we discovered that a man who later turned out to be a police officer, was taking drugs and gathered some people and told them to continue taking drugs that nothing would happen to them because he was a police officer. When we got to where six of them were taking the drugs, three of them ran away, but the police officer remained and told the other two not to run that he was a policeman. Because he was not wearing a uniform, we did not identify him as a policeman. Our interest was to sanitise the community of drug abuse. We cannot say that because he was a policeman we should allow him to continue encouraging people to take hard drugs.

“The police officer then vowed that he would mobilise his men and unleash terror on the community and arrest all the youths. The police should conduct a drug test on him, he is one of the officers denting the image of Nigeria Police. He had vowed that he would arrest all the youths including me. He also claimed that he sent N78,000 to me, the police should go to the bank and check my bank account to find out the truth. There was no such thing.

“It is also not true that I was interested in the girl that the police officer impregnated because the girl in question is my sister, so why would I compete with him over the girl. Moreover, the girl is under-aged, she is just 15 years old, she is not yet 18 years old recognised by the Nigerian constitution as an adult.

He is only looking for a defense to cover up his addiction, he is a drug addict. He is one of those tarnishing the image of Nigeria police. Whenever a drug user was arrested here, he would go there and push for settlement and release of the person.”

Our children are dropping out of school because of drug addiction – Elders

An elder in the community, Mr. Okechukwu Aka, regretted that some of their children who successfully gained admission into universities have dropped out because of drug addiction. Aka noted that some have sold their property less than its value because they craved for drugs, noting that many girls were into drugs.

Aka said: “Drug activities in our community have gone beyond the level that if we don’t take action with the collective effort of our youths things will go worse. We have now discovered that even our brothers and sons who gained admission into the universities could not graduate because of drug activities. Some of them have sold property like houses which their fathers left for them. The amount of money they collected in selling the property was far below the actual value, just because they wanted to take drugs. You would see them selling a property of N30m for just N3m because of drugs. So, our people resolved that we should no longer sit and watch our youths being destroyed. Women in drugs are even becoming more numerous than the boys. What we have done is to say “no more drugs”.

BusinessUSSD: How Nigerians Are Losing Money To Failed Bank Transactions by BlackViper(op): 8:07am On Aug 28, 2025
When Chinyere, a petty trader in Lagos, tried to transfer N5,000 to her supplier using her bank’s USSD code, she thought it would take only seconds. Instead, the transaction failed midway.

Frustrated, she tried again. The second attempt also collapsed without delivering the funds. But when she checked her balance, she discovered N13.96 had been deducted N6.98 for each failed session.

Transaction was unsuccessful and she was charged twice without getting any value.

Chinyere’s story was not an isolated case. This has been the experience of many bank customers using the USSD channel to perform basic transactions across Nigeria.

The situation becomes more worrisome because neither the banks nor the telecom operators are ready to take the blame, leaving the customers to bear their losses in silence.

Threat to financial inclusion

According to the National Vice President of Association of Mobile Money and Bank Agents in Nigeria (AMMBAN) Mr. Yusuf Adeyemo, the rising cases of failed USSD transactions and loss of money by bank customers is now threatening financial inclusion in Nigeria.

He noted that many Nigerians still depend on USSD for transactions, but the experience of losing money is now discouraging them from using the channel.

“We are not even talking about agents because they might not be affected much because they use POS. But we are worried for a lot of our customers who have had to use USSD code unsuccessfully, but they were debited,” he said.

Adeyemi said while some people may see the N6.98 as insignificant, multiple deductions of the same amount for unsuccessful transactions has become the hidden costs several bank customers are paying.

This, he said, is making financial inclusion in Nigeria to become more expensive and may discourage many from putting money in their bank accounts.

He noted that many customers have lost money to transactions as little as checking their BVN or retrieving NIN as they get debited without getting the service.

“Affordability is the basis of financial inclusion, when it is no longer affordable to carry out financial transactions, then people get discouraged.

“There’s a need for the banks and the telecom operators to look at it critically. If a transaction is not successful who is tracking it back to pay the consumer back? It’s a conversation that we all need to sit down to look into and find solutions,” he said.

Who is to blame, banks or telcos?

With the recent shift to end user billing, telecom operators now deduct charges for USSD directly from the bank customers using their airtime.

This, in a way, has passed the buck to the table of the telecom operators. However, the Chairman of the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) Engr. Gbenga Adebayo, said the telcos cannot be blamed as they deliver their part of the service at every point of a USSD transaction.

According to him, the telecom operators are like the vehicles taking the bank customers to their bank, whether they get money from the bank or not is not the fault of the telcos.

“Operators deliver you to the infrastructure of the bank, we have no control over what happens there.

“You know, sometimes, just like the ATM where you don’t have money, sometimes when you interact with the bank, the server is resetting, it’s taking signals from somewhere, and you can’t blame the operator for that incomplete service,” he said.

Suggesting that the banks should blamed, Adebayo used an analogy to explain his point:

“I’ll give you an example. I went to the bank to collect my debit card. My driver took me to the bank. After I collected the debit card, they said I can go downstairs to the ATM machine to go and use it.

“I went in. There were seven machines there. The first one, no money. The second one, no money. So, I went back upstairs and I said to them, this thing is not working.

“So, they checked it and said the card is working, the ATM has no money. I can’t blame my driver for it. He took me to the bank.”

Meanwhile, a bank official who spoke with Nairametrics on condition of anonymity, said the banks could have taken the blame when they were still doing corporate billing, that is, banks deducting charges from customers’ account.

While he acknowledged that there may be issues once in a while leading to failed transactions, he said the banks have also invested and are still investing heavily in tech infrastructure to ensure that their customers enjoy seamless services.

“How can you blame the banks for the money they are not collecting? You know USSD is now on end-user billing, the telcos are the ones deducting money directly from the customers, not the banks,” he said.

Mr. Elvis Eromosele, the Editor of TheNumbersNG, a business publication, who has also experienced debits for failed USSD transactions, corroborated the bank official’s position, noting that the telecom operators must accept the blame because the money is deducted by them.

He also faulted the entire process of the USSD arrangement that leaves no room for resolutions of issues arising from failed transactions and debits.

Ways forward

According to Eromosele, to regain user trust and ensure fairness, the USSD charge must only apply after the transaction is successfully completed.

He added that telcos must auto-refund airtime where a session fails or terminates prematurely just like bank reversal notifications

He also wants the NCC to compel telcos to create user-friendly, time-bound dispute resolution platforms where customers can easily report and resolve airtime deductions for failed transactions.
Eromosele noted that many Nigerians are still in the dark about this billing change, hence there must be a comprehensive public awareness initiative to educate users on how the system works and how to seek redress.

“The operators and the banks need to go back to the Nigerian Communications Commission and the Central Bank of Nigeria to deliberate on how they will resolve this. The blame will always go to the telcos because they are the ones collecting the money,” Eromosele said.

When contacted, a source at the NCC, who would not want to be named because he was not authorized to speak on the matter. however, said the Commission has also received reports on the development and would soon come out with modalities to address the issue.

What you should know

Effective from June 18, 2025, telecom operators started deducting charges for USSD transactions from customers’ airtime, marking shift to end-user billing from the previous model where banks deduct the charges from customers’ bank accounts.

According to ALTON, the migration to end-user billing follows the Determination of USSD Pricing and Services issued by the NCC, which was developed in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other key stakeholders.

This new model was adopted to put an end to the years long impasse between banks and telcos over USSD debt as the former often fail to remit to the latter after deducting from customers’ accounts.

The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) Search and Rescue team said another body from the Third Mainland Bridge accident of August 23 has been recovered.

LASWA General Manager, Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

Mr Emmanuel confirmed that the recovered body had since been released to the victim’s family.

He said while early reports suggested only one victim, investigations later confirmed a second passenger, identified as 31-year-old Chado Daniel Danladi of Oremeta Street, Ikeja.

Danladi was identified as a colleague of the first victim.

Mr Emmanuel said the incident occurred in the early hours of August 23, when a Toyota Camry plunged into the Lagos Lagoon from Third Mainland Bridge.

He noted that LASWA’s rescue team responded immediately after receiving the distress call.

He stated, “The vehicle carried a female passenger, identified as Aisha, aged between 25 and 35. Her body was quickly recovered by divers and handed to her family.’’

He added that emergency units from LASWA, Marine Police, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) worked seamlessly with support from fishermen.

Mr Emanuel stated, “This incident demonstrates the efficiency of our coordinated emergency response and the strong community support that strengthen Lagos State’s capacity to manage waterway emergencies. We remain committed to ensuring safety and rapid response in all such cases.’’

Education80% Of WAEC Candidates Will Lose Admission Status-rep.ogah by BlackViper(op): 6:24pm On Aug 27, 2025
Following the continued withholding of some results by the West African Examination Council (WAEC), the Member of the House of Representatives representing Ikwo/Ezza South Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State, Hon. Chinedu Ogah, on Wednesday, said that nearly 80 per cent of Nigerian youths who sat for the exam risk missing admission into tertiary institutions this year.

Ogah, in a statement in Abakaliki, urged WAEC to immediately release the results of candidates it withheld in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) over alleged malpractice, warning that the body is frustrating the educational dreams of young Nigerians.

It will be recalled that the Federal Lawmaker had earlier issued a seven-day ultimatum to WAEC to release the results of 192,089 candidates, representing 9.75 per cent of the total candidates, withheld in connection with alleged examination malpractice in 2025, or face a ₦50 million suit.

According to him, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has already released its results and admissions are ongoing, but most candidates cannot secure placements because their English Language and Mathematics results remain pending.

Putting results pending up to now is unconstitutional, and this anomaly only happens in Nigeria.
“Stakeholders, especially those who support orphans and vulnerable persons to write SSCE, are deeply unhappy with this recurring issue that is killing the hope of our young people
,” Ogah added.

The lawmaker cited the WAEC Act, Cap W4, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004, which empowers the examination body “to conduct examinations in the public interest, mark and award certificates,” stressing that the Council has no mandate to indefinitely withhold results after conducting the exams.

Ogah, who is the House Chairman on Reformatory Institutions, reminded the Council of its core mandate as contained in its establishing statute.

He said, “The mandate of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is to serve as the region’s foremost examining body, determining examinations for the public interest, conducting them, awarding international certificates, and providing qualitative educational assessment and moral guidance to West African countries.

“Determining and conducting relevant examinations for Anglophone West African countries. Awarding certificates comparable to those of equivalent international bodies.

“Providing reliable educational assessment and promoting both academic and moral excellence. Supporting human resource development, international cooperation, and high educational standards within the region.”

Ogah argued that withholding results without immediate proof of malpractice constitutes a breach of this mandate and violates the rights of candidates who sat for the examination in good faith.

WAEC’s Head of National Office (HNO), Dr. Amos Dangut, had announced the overall release of this year’s results but confirmed that the 192,089 candidates’ results remained seized pending investigation.

Ogah, however, urged the Council to rise to its responsibility, warning that continued delay would frustrate candidates’ admission chances and potentially push many into crime and other social vices.

This is unacceptable. WAEC should release the results of these candidates without further delay because their future is at stake,” he added, calling on the Minister of Education to set up a committee to investigate the matter.

SportsBellingham Dad Storms Dressing Room To Confront Coach Over Son's Substitution by BlackViper(op): 5:15pm On Aug 27, 2025
Borussia Dortmund have changed their protocols after Jobe Bellingham’s father caused a scene following their disappointing start to the Bundesliga season.

Dortmund kicked off their campaign with a 3-3 draw at St Pauli on Saturday after imploding in the final stages. Nico Kovac’s side appeared to be cruising at 3-1 but conceded a penalty and had a man sent off as St Pauli roared back to score twice in the final four minutes of normal time.

There was a chastening Bundesliga debut for Bellingham, who was hauled off at half-time by Kovac as part of a double substitution. The 19-year-old midfielder followed in the footsteps of his brother by joining Dortmund in a £32million move from Sunderland this summer but his first start didn’t go to plan.

The match in Hamburg was watched by Jobe’s parents, Denise and Mark, who were left unhappy with Kovac’s decision and the result. Sky Sports Germany reported that Mark sought out Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl after the final whistle before making his feelings known loudly in the corridor outside the dressing room.[color=#990000]

BILD said that Mark, who is his son’s agent and advisor, then demanded to speak with Kovac, where he ‘made no secret of his opinion’. It was an embarrassing situation for the club, who have acted by changing who can access the dressing room.

“We got Jobe Bellingham because we really built a relationship of trust with the parents over the years. Now the family flew in especially for their son's first Bundesliga game and wanted to meet Jobe after the game,” the club’s managing director, Lars Ricken, told Sky90 - The Football Debate.

“They stood in the hallway to the locker room and had an emotional conversation with Sebastian, which, however, is not a problem at all given this relationship.

“In the future though, we will ensure that [only] players, coaches and any officials have access to the locker room area, so that we no longer get into trouble by commenting on such news. But today everything has been resolved, no drama.”

Kovac substituted Karim Adeyemi as well as Bellingham at half-time and noted post-match that he could have taken “four others” off as well. “We failed to match the opponent in terms of physicality and strength,” he said. “We played too slowly and rarely exploited depth. The goals we score all come from individual quality.”

He added: “Today, we experienced exactly what I told the team: It’s going to be intense, and we have to work very hard physically to get something out of it. I think we hardly managed that over the full 90 minutes.

"We weren't as focused as I would have liked for the entire 90 minutes. We had a 3-1 lead and got the most out of our quality players as far as finishing is concerned. But we didn't embrace the fight like we should have here in St Pauli. That's why we have to be satisfied with this point at the end of the day.”
