Politics › Boko Haram Kidnap Lecturer Of Nigerian Army University by BlackViper(op): 3:30am On Mar 04, 2025 |
Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have abducted a professor from the Nigerian Army University, Biu, along with other passengers traveling on the Damaturu-Biu Road near Kamuya village in Yobe State.
Sources within the university confirmed that the abduction occurred around noon on Monday.
A university official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to comment, disclosed that the professor was returning from Maiduguri, where he had visited his family, when the attack took place.
“I am not in a position to disclose this officially, but the news is all over campus. I believe the university’s communication office will issue a statement in due time,” the source said.
It was also revealed that the abducted professor was among 30 candidates who had applied for the position of vice-chancellor at the university.
Efforts to reach the spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command for comments were unsuccessful, as calls went unanswered.
The abduction comes amid a resurgence of terrorist activities in Nigeria’s northeastern region
In January, at least six soldiers were killed when suspected Boko Haram militants ambushed troops in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
That same month, 20 fishermen were massacred in the Gadan Gari community of Bama LGA, while 40 farmers were killed in Dumba village, Kukawa LGA. Dozens of others were kidnapped across the state.
February also witnessed increased violence, with seven people killed in two separate attacks in Damboa LGA.
The deteriorating security situation has raised concerns about the safety of residents and travelers in the region, as Boko Haram and its factions continue to launch deadly assaults despite ongoing military operations. https://punchng.com/bharam-abducts-professor-others-in-fresh-borno-attack/?fbclid=IwY2xjawIzRUlleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHVCwni30TaNAIqkBgKpK7dnLJ573XNVWQugf2Lfq9G452qK1kJ9lp9SJAw_aem_4IKnd4Er2eelnePCz6PvVw#google_vignette

So wait, did this "thing" really say that massively increasing tariffs of Airtime and data will "improve access?"Like, did I actually read this right? When you massively hiked Electricity bills, did access to electricity supply improve? At the end of the day, what happened in the Petroleum sector will happen in Telcom. Fuel queues did not disappear because Nigerians now have access to Petroleum products. It disappeared because most Nigerians simply can't afford it anymore, and that is EXACTLY what will happen with Airtime and data. Fewer people, especially young people ( who use the Internet more than any other age group in Nigeria) will not be able to afford the hike and they will have to cut their budget to adjust. Maybe that's what they wanted all along. After all, we know the role that the Internet plays in organizing young people to fight for their rights. Anyway, It's too early in the morning to talk wetin dey my mind otherwise dem go call me tribalist or religious bigot. Make I go chop my breakfast😛 https://imguh.com/images/2025/02/26/GIF_20250220_011809_2071c84034804a7e7d8.gif |
Politics › Increase Of Airtime, Data Tariffs Will Improve Access - Minister, Bosun Tijani by BlackViper(op): 3:41am On Feb 28, 2025 |
Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, says the 50 per cent tariff increase for telecom companies will guarantee meaningful access to telecoms services for Nigerians.
The minister said this while briefing State House Correspondents on Thursday.
The minister had led Mr. Sunil Mittal, Chairman, Bharti Airtel and other members of the executive of the company, to a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“We have to ensure that when they invest, we can keep them afloat.
” This is a sector that employs close to half a million people in this country, including the value chain.
“Also, it was quite a difficult decision, balancing the need to allow these businesses to be sustainable, to stay afloat, but at the same time ensuring that each and every citizen can have access to telecommunication services,” said Tijani.
He stated that the Federal Government engaged KPMG to conduct a study to determine the optimal tariff allowance which led to the 50 per cent increase.
“If we chose not to allow the increase in tariff, we also were at risk of losing jobs, and some of the companies packing up.
“When you weigh that, it’s also not the best thing for the economy.
” The priority for this government is actually meaningful access.
“We don’t want our people to just have access to telecommunication services.
” We want it to be meaningful; the quality that you get is extremely important,” the minister said.
He said the Federal Government had invested in 90,000 kilometres of fiber to ensure the entire country was covered.
The minister added that the Federal Executive Council had also approved investment in additional 7,000 telecoms towers in rural areas.
He said quality access and connectivity required significant investment.
The minister added that the Federal Government must encourage the private sector to continue to make such investment.
Mittal, on his part, said Nigeria was the soul of Barthi Airtel’s operations in Africa, with the potential to match India’s advancements in digital innovation, connectivity and financial inclusion.
He said Airtel’s success in Nigeria was crucial to its overall success in Africa.
Mittal said Nigeria’s strategic importance underscored Airtel’s objective of driving growth and transformation across the African continent.
“Nigeria is the most important part of our Africa strategy.
” In fact, the entire Africa rests on the back of Nigeria for Airtel,” he said. https://guardian.ng/news/tariff-increase-will-guarantee-quality-telecom-services-minister/?fbclid=IwY2xjawIuAcNleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHdFUf89XLifAUYPqvldn0-bEMuMpw1VtAAejKZkgmi41mmC4vgXLWxTHVg_aem_IRCS4LuUmV5r7cdLi8FvAw

They were never useful to begin with Truvelisback: Good day, fellas. I don't really understand our Nollywood movies anymore. Is it that they are now clueless on what movie they should produce? Selection of characters= Zero. Story, title= zero. What are they even acting for God sake? Their movies are so predictable. No suspense, poor action, poor passion, unnecessary delay in a scene etc, unlike movies of those days. Na so, so copy, copy. Lol, i see their movies like a mere children drama. You rarely watch a Nollywood movie that is interesting. It's very rare. I prefer Telemundo movies than to theirs. |

Surah 9:29 of the koran actually tells muslims that is is their duty to oppress and slaughter Christians and Jews until they convert to Islam You're either a liar or an ignoramus. Agbaka1997: I'm a Christian clearly from my background, however I grew up in Lagos amongst Muslims who were devout to the core. Their lifestyle has left an indelible mark. Even their holy quran itself, addresses peace in so many dimensions. I know of a particular Quranic verse that states the importance of repentance, daily prayers and charity or alms giving and how Allah their ultimate God is a forgiving father. Even when our enemies are inclined towards peace, we are directed to make peace with them. |

Politics › Re: Royal Fraud: U.S. Court Releases Yoruba King On Bail After Surrendering Passport by BlackViper: 9:32pm On Feb 18, 2025 |
A Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio, has ordered the release of Oba Joseph Olugbenga Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu, on a bail of $20,000, following his indictment and arrest for swindling the U.S. government of $4.2 million COVID 19 fraud.
The judge confiscated Mr Oloyede’s U.S. and Nigerian passports as part of the bail conditions pending the outcome of his trial, which might take several months. Mr Oloyede’s U.S. passport bore his full name, Joseph Olugbenga Oloyede, with number 56 24 4, was due to expire June 18, 2027.
His Nigerian passport A0897 was also seized.
The Oshun monarch’s continued absence had stirred worries among the community members of Ipetumodu, especially given that he had missed traditional festivals and rituals believed to be necessary for the spiritual fortification of the land.
Mr Oloyede, 62, conspired with certain persons to scam the American authorities who provided COVID 19 relief to businesses at the brink of collapse during the 2020 pandemic.
Not only did Mr Oloyede falsify documents required to obtain loans, he also assisted his co-conspirators to perpetrate fraud and charged them a percentage of the disbursed loans.
The traditional ruler who is an experienced accountant, bypassed the loan requirements with the fake documents and did the same for his co-conspirators, to perfect the multimillion-dollar fraud.
Even though the loan was specifically earmarked to pay off fixed debts, payroll and other “permissible” bills for struggling businesses, the FBI found that the royal king squandered the loans on personal expenses. |
