InvestmentTofro: SEC Warns Nigerians About A New Ponzi Scam by BlackViper(op): 2:25pm On May 01, 2025
The Securities and Exchange Commission has uncovered another suspected illegal investment platform identified as TOFRO.COM (Tofro).

The commission raised the alarm in a notice on Thursday made available to journalists.

The commission warned Nigerians against falling for their tactics to obtain money from them through the promise of unusually high returns.

SEC said that the suspected investment platform holds itself out as a cryptocurrency trading platform, adding the investment scheme was not registered by the commission.

It said that based on its investigations, Tofro’s operations exhibited the typical indicators of a fraudulent Ponzi scheme.

According to the SEC, it promises unusually high returns, heavy reliance on a referral system to sustain payouts, and failure to honour withdrawal requests from subscribers.

SEC, however, strongly advised Nigerians to be wary of investing with Tofro, noting that any person who places such investment with the entity does so at their own risk.

The notice read, “The attention of the Securities and Exchange Commission has been drawn to the activities of an online platform known as TOFRO.COM (Tofro), which holds itself out as a cryptocurrency trading platform. The commission hereby informs the public that the Tofro is not registered by the commission either to solicit investments from the public or operate in any other capacity within the Nigerian capital market.

“Investigations have revealed that Tofro’s operations exhibit the typical indicators of a fraudulent Ponzi scheme, including the promise of unusually high returns, heavy reliance on a referral system to sustain pay-outs and failure to honour withdrawal requests from subscribers. Accordingly, the public is strongly advised to be wary about investing with Tofro, as any person who places such investment with the entity, does so at his/her own risk. The commission similarly reminds potential investors of the need to verify the registration status of investment platforms via the commission’s dedicated portal: www.sec.gov.ng/cmos before transacting with them.”

The SEC Director-General, Emomotimi Agama, said that Nigerians needed to understand the dangers of putting their hard-earned money in ventures not registered or regulated by the commission.

InvestmentElie Bitar: 41 Yr Old Foreigner Wanted By EFCC For CBEX Scam by BlackViper(op): 2:21am On May 01, 2025
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared Elie Bitar, a foreign national, wanted for his alleged involvement in cryptocurrency fraud on the online trading platform Crypto Bridge Exchange, also known as CBEX.

The 41-year-old foreigner is wanted for a suspected fraudulent scheme carried out via CBEX, according to an official bulletin issued by the commission on Wednesday, April 30, 2025.

Hundreds of unsuspecting victims across Nigeria fell victim to the elaborate crypto fraud, which ran into over $1 billion.

“The public is hereby notified that ELIE BITAR, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fraud allegedly perpetrated on an online trading platform called Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX),” the EFCC stated in the wanted notice signed by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale.

The anti-graft agency revealed Bitar's last known address is Eng. George Enemoh Crescent, Lekki Phase 1, Lekki, Lagos State.

The commission urged any member of the public with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact one of its zonal offices in Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, or Abuja.

According to the EFCC, the public can also contact the commission by phone at 08093322644 or via email at info@efcc.gov.ng.

Bitar is the ninth suspect to be declared wanted in connection with the CBEX fraud, which has robbed scores of Nigerians of their investments.

The platform had promised users quick, high returns through crypto trading and investments, but observers raised a red flag over its lack of regulatory compliance and transparency before it eventually crashed.

So far, the EFCC investigation into the scheme has reportedly uncovered a trail of transactions linked to Bitar and individuals, some of whom have been arrested.

PoliticsCourt Upholds Conviction Of Ogban For Manipulating Election To Favour Akpabio by BlackViper(op): 4:15pm On Apr 30, 2025
Appeal Court Upholds Conviction Of Professor Ogban For Manipulating Election To Favour Akpabio

The Court of Appeal sitting in Calabar, Cross River has upheld the conviction and three-year prison sentence of Professor Peter Ogban for manipulating and announcing falsified results in the 2019 Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial District election, which favoured Senator President Godswill Akpabio.

The appellate court, in its ruling on Wednesday, affirmed the earlier judgment of the High Court in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, which found Ogban guilty of electoral fraud.

The court strongly condemned his actions, noting the gravity of his misconduct as a university professor entrusted with the integrity of the electoral process.

Professor Ogban, a professor of Soil Physics at the University of Calabar, served as the returning officer in the said election.

He was prosecuted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after investigations revealed he altered election results to favour the former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio.

Ogban was convicted of manipulating results to boost Akpabio’s votes against his opponent, Christopher Ekpenyong of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Akpabio has since denied any involvement in the electoral fraud.

It will be recalled that the then Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of INEC in Akwa Ibom State, Barrister Mike Igini, spearheaded the investigation and prosecution of two university professors—Peter Ogban and Ignatius Uduk—over their roles in manipulating and announcing fraudulent election results. The conviction of Professor Ogban by the High Court was one of the landmark outcomes of those efforts, now affirmed by the Court of Appeal.

Similarly, in February, A State High Court in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, sentenced Uduk to three years in prison for perjury and publishing false election results during the 2019 general elections.

Professor Uduk of the University of Uyo was found guilty of announcing and publishing fabricated results in the Essien Udim State Constituency election, where he served as the returning officer.

In addition to the prison term, the court imposed a N100,000 fine.

The case marked the second high-profile conviction of a Nigerian professor for electoral fraud.

Uduk was first arraigned in December 2020 after a warrant was issued for his arrest the previous month due to his repeated failure to appear in court for the start of his trial.

The professor pleaded not guilty to the three charges brought against him by Nigeria’s election commission.

However, the case faced multiple delays for various reasons, including a change of defence lawyer and an incident where the defendant collapsed in the dock during cross-examination.

At one point, Uduk accused the presiding judge of bias and requested his recusal—a request that was granted.

The state’s chief judge then reassigned the case, but ironically, it was returned to the same judge for continuation.

SportsLiverpool's Cody Gakpo To Be Punished For: "I Belong To Jesus" Vest by BlackViper(op): 3:20am On Apr 30, 2025
Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo is set to be reminded of the Football Association's rules after his goal celebration in their 5-1 win over Tottenham.

The 25-year-old scored the Reds' third of the afternoon at Anfield as they sealed the Premier League title.

Upon scoring, the Netherlands international took off his shirt to reveal a vest that bore the message 'I belong to Jesus'. He also displayed it at full-time amid the jubilant title-winning scenes
.

The vest's message and its font resembled that of AC Milan legend Kaka when he celebrated the Italian giant's triumph over Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League final.

Gakpo was booked for removing his jersey and will now be warned by the FA too.

As per the International Football Association Board (IFAB) laws of the game - which the FA follows - one rule states: 'Equipment must not have any political, religious or personal slogans, statements or images.

'Players must not reveal undergarments that show political, religious, personal slogans, statements or images, or advertising other than the manufacturer's logo.

'For any offence the player and/or the team will be sanctioned by the competition organiser, national football association or by FIFA.'

The warning comes five months after Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi faced no formal action from the Football Association despite wearing an adapted rainbow armband for the second time.

The player and the club had been reminded of FA kit regulations after he wore an armband saying 'I love Jesus' against Newcastle on November 30.

He then wore one stating 'Jesus loves you' against Ipswich on Tuesday night, but the FA will still not take action on December 3.

The club and the player were again reminded of kit regulations, which state that the appearance on, or incorporation in, any item of clothing, football boots or other equipment, of any religious message is prohibited under Rule A4.

Captains had been wearing rainbow armbands in those two rounds of Premier League matches as part of the Rainbow Laces campaign, which offers support to the LGBTQ+ community in football and beyond.

The Portman Road clash was also notable for the decision of Ipswich Town skipper Sam Morsy to refuse to wear the rainbow armband altogether - who had done the same the previous weekend too.

Foreign AffairsRigathi Gachagua: Kenya Is The Only Country With Drug Barons In Presidency by BlackViper(op): 5:12pm On Apr 29, 2025
Kenya’s President William Ruto has been accused of having ties with powerful drug barons in the country.

Mr Ruto’s estranged ally, impeached Vice-President Rigathi Gachagua, on Sunday, alleged that the Kenyan president was running the country with the help of drug barons.

Mr Gachagua, who was impeached last October, accused Mr Ruto of appointing “two drug barons” into his cabinet after he was ousted.

“When I left the government, Ruto brought two drug barons into his cabinet as cabinet secretaries,” Mr Gachagua claimed during a church service in Ol Jorook, Nyandarua County.

He added, “How do you expect the fight against drugs to be won? It cannot. Our youth are left in God’s protection.”

Mr Gachagua dismissed Mr Ruto’s government’s fight against drugs.

“I knew very well the government was not interested in the fight. Now, Kenya is the only country in the world where drug barons selling drugs sit in the cabinet,” Mr Gachagua alleged. “Parliament has been captured by the Executive, so the church, speak loudly. If not, Kenya is gone.”

The Kenyan government did not immediately respond to a request for comments on Monday.

PoliticsArmy Chief: Harrassment Of Civilians In Khaki Or Camouflage Is Wrong by BlackViper(op): 1:49am On Apr 28, 2025
The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs (Army), Major General Gold Chibuisi, has condemned the harassment and assault of civilians unlawfully wearing military uniforms, stressing that while such acts are illegal, the Nigerian Army does not support violence against offenders.

Speaking during a media chat with Defence correspondents on Saturday night in Abuja, Maj. Gen. Chibuisi said that although it is against Nigerian law for non-military personnel to wear military uniforms, soldiers must act professionally and lawfully when handling such cases.

“I’m surprised that in most briefs we give in our programmes, we always talk about this uniform issue because it keeps recurring. It’s against the law of the land. If you are not in the armed forces, please don’t use our uniform, whether you love it or not.

“But that’s one part of it. Let people stop it. The other part is what we do, what our troops do when they see somebody dressed in a military uniform. You’re supposed to just get the person to remove it, arrest, and hand it over to the police, basically for persecution. All these other things that come with it are not right. And we are doing sensitisation on them.”

He said many soldiers had been sanctioned for assaulting Nigerians who wore military camouflage.

” Those that we find and there is evidence that they did that, we always sanction them sternly. And we’ll continue to do that, ” Chibuisi said.

He appealed to citizens to avoid wearing military uniforms illegally, noting that respecting the uniform is an important part of strengthening national security and building trust between the military and the public.

Chibuisi noted that criminals increasingly exploit military uniforms to commit crimes, making it harder for civilians and security agencies to identify genuine soldiers.

“Currently, there are a lot of criminals using military garb to perpetrate crime. If people keep dressing like that, how do you differentiate between a criminal and a genuine soldier?”

He urged families and communities to help with sensitization at the home level.

“If somebody you know is not in the military comes out in the morning, and he wants to jog or drive somewhere wearing our uniform, you should tell him not to, “he said.

Chibuisi also reminded the public that the Army belongs to the people and should be seen as part of their families, not as distant or fearsome figures.

“There is no army that doesn’t want itself to be seen as working for the people. We are the Nigerian Army. The Nigerian people own us.”

As part of efforts to foster better understanding, the Army, he said, is strengthening its sensitisation campaigns both internally among troops and externally to the wider public.

“We are fine-tuning the conduct of our personnel.
“And I believe as we keep interacting, the relationship will continue to improve, ” he said.

Christianity Etc8 Leading Contenders To Be The Next Pope by BlackViper(op): 6:47am On Apr 27, 2025
FOLLOWING the death of Pope Francis on the morning of Easter Monday, attention turns to the question of his successor.

Francis led the Catholic church for 12 years, right up until his death at 88 - as is tradition.

The Vatican paid tribute to their former leader with a statement that hailed his "faithfulness, courage, and universal love, especially for the poorest and most marginalised".

It continued: “With immense gratitude for his example as a true disciple of the Lord Jesus, we commend the soul of Pope Francis to the infinite, merciful love of God, One and Tribune.″

After the nine days of mourning have been observed - during which time Francis will be buried - the papal conclave will begin in order to select a successor.

All 252 cardinals from around the world will travel to Rome for the secret ballot, in which a maximum of 115 can vote.

When a candidate has two thirds of the vote, they will be appointed Pope through a pontifical coronation.

Here are the 8 front-runners:

CARDINAL LUIS TAGLE

https://www.hostpic.org/images/2504270523520110.jpg

Tagle, 67, has been dubbed the "Asian Pope Francis", because his views largely align with the late Pontiff.

He has criticised the Church's "severe" stance on gay people, divorcees and single mothers.

Tagle is the seventh cardinal ever from the Philippines and, if picked, would become the first Asian Pope.

CARDINAL FRIDOLIN AMBONGO BESUNGU

https://www.hostpic.org/images/2504270525350101.jpeg

Besungu, 65, is a Congolese cardinal who has publicly clashed with Francis in the past.

He rejected a decree from Francis that the church should give its blessing to homosexual couples, arguing it "cannot be carried out in Africa without [Christians] exposing themselves to scandals".

He effectively declared the doctrine, called Fiducia supplicans, null and void on the African continent.

If Besungu - the youngest of the front-runners - was elected as Pope, his leadership would likely force a U-turn on much of Francis's work.

CARDINAL PIETRO PAROLIN

https://www.hostpic.org/images/2504270530300111.jpeg

Italian Parolin, 70, is currently the Vatican's Secretary of State, and has been a bookies' favourite to don the robe since last November.

He treads the middle ground on most political questions facing the Church, and has spent years abroad in Nigeria and Mexico as a diplomat.

Parolin would be seen as an extension of Francis's legacy.

CARDINAL WIM EIJK
https://www.hostpic.org/images/2504270527050107.jpeg

Eijk, 71, is a former doctor and one of the most conservative cardinals with their hat in the ring.

The Dutchman once wrote that remarrying is "a form of structured and institutionalised adultery", and has sharply criticised Francis's view on the matter.

The cardinal also slammed the late Pope's decision to allow Protestants to receive bread and wine in Catholic churches as "completely incomprehensible".

CARDINAL RAYMOND BURKE

https://www.hostpic.org/images/2504270534590103.jpg

Cardinal Raymond BurkeCredit: The College of Cardinals Report

Burke, 76, is another unwavering conservative, who believes strongly in the traditions of Latin Mass.

Hailing from Wisconsin, USA, Burke doesn't believe that people who have divorced and remarried should be allowed to receive Holy Communion.

He also branded as "objectionable" the Church's reformed approach to gay people, civil marriages and contraception.

CARDINAL PETER ERDO

https://www.hostpic.org/images/2504270539020107.jpg

Erdo, 72, is a former President of the Council of Bishops Conferences of Europe - a group of 33 leading Bishops from the continent.

The Hungarian is a devout Marian, which means he directs his religious practices towards Mary, mother of Jesus.

He is known for being a Conservative voice within the Church, and is against divorced or remarried Catholics partaking in Holy Communion.

He has made some controversial claims in his time, including likening taking in refugees to human trafficking.

The distinguished cardinal is fluent in Hungarian, English, Italian, French and Latin.

CARDINAL MATTEO ZUPPI

https://www.hostpic.org/images/2504270543570126.jpeg

Italian Cardinal Zuppi, 69, is known to be a favourite of the current Pope Francis, who in 2023 asked him to carry out a mission to bring peace in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Zuppi met with Zelenksy, but not Putin - and later in the year flew to the US to meet President Biden.

He has been the president of the Episcopal Conference of Italy since May 2022.

The cardinal holds much more progressive views than many of his peers, writing in book in 2018 that the Church should seek dialogue and understanding with "our LGBT brothers and sisters".

CARDINAL MARIO GRECH

https://www.hostpic.org/images/2504270537090103.jpeg

Grech, 67, from Malta, is considered a moderate voice within the Church.

He has spoken about the importance of reaching out to communities that feel rejected by the Church due to the sexuality or marriage status.

He was elevated to cardinal by Pope Francis in 2020.

How will the next Pope be chosen?

THE next Pope is chosen through a process called a papal conclave, which takes place after the current Pope dies or resigns.

Here's how it works:

The College of Cardinals is summoned to the Vatican

The cardinals meet in the Sistine Chapel and vote by a secret ballot

They will prepare for the upcoming papal elections - called a conclave

These Catholic leaders will vote once on the first days and four times a day on each additional day

This vote will continue until one candidate gets two-thirds of the vote

The nominee must then accept the offer and choose their new papal name

This outcome will be confirmed to the public when white smoke burns out of the Sistine Chapel chimney.

A fabricated person? I'm afraid that doesn't make any sense.
To fabricate a new identity means creating someone who NEVER existed to begin with.

It means fabrication of an alternate identity like what secret service agents and spies do.

Merely lying about yourself by concealing material evidence is not the same thing as creating a fake identity. It just means you have lied under oath and you cannot be trusted.

QuinQ:
Because the naturalization was NOT actually given to you. It was given to the person you fabricated. So it makes perfect sense that it be taken away from the fabricated person!
Foreign AffairsRe: Trump Confirms He’s Open To Deporting Naturalized US Citizens! by BlackViper: 2:03pm On Apr 16, 2025
If you have a criminal record and you concealed it from US immigration authorities, then the fact that you successfully went through the naturalization process and obtained a legitimate American citizenship will not stop US immigration from stripping you of that fraudulently obtained citizenship and deporting you

QuinQ:
Well, that is if the person shouldn't have been naturalized in the first place. That is the ONLY exception. Which of course makes sense - if you totally lied about who you are, which means it was given to the another person, not you
Foreign AffairsRe: Trump Confirms He’s Open To Deporting Naturalized US Citizens! by BlackViper: 11:36am On Apr 16, 2025
Read law reports. There are legal precedents for naturalised citizens being stripped of their citizenship.

There is even a legal term for it. It is called Denaturalisation.

Here is one example:

United States v. Sokolov (1986):

A naturalized citizen was denaturalized after convictions for fraud and other crimes. The court found that Sokolov had misrepresented his criminal history and affiliations during naturalization, which justified revocation.

This case established that felonies exposing false statements or ineligibility (e.g., lack of "good moral character"wink during the naturalization process could lead to denaturalization.

QuinQ:
Well, I turned to Google and couldn't find a single instance where a naturalized US citizen was deported. Try it and see for yourself

Foreign AffairsRe: Trump Confirms He’s Open To Deporting Naturalized US Citizens! by BlackViper: 12:05pm On Apr 15, 2025
A naturalized citizen is not the same as a birth citizen. A naturalised citizen is someone who for most of their lives was not a US citizen but acquired it documentary qualification.
They had a residential permit and a work permit, then they applied for citizenship and passed the citizenship test. If such a person goes ahead to commit a serious crime (a felony) they should not be allowed to keep their document acquired citizenship.

This is a similar case with the Shamima Begum case in the UK

QuinQ:
Naturalized citizen is exactly same as citizen. In fact US constitution requires that you renounce your citizenship of any other country - meaning there's nowhere to deport you!

Jesus often visited and cared for the poor, marginalized, and outcast. His ministry emphasized compassion, humility, and love for all people, especially those in need. In the Gospels, He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and spent time with lepers, tax collectors, and others whom society often rejected.

One notable passage is from 1.Luke 4:18, where Jesus says:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.”

2. Matthew 11:4-5

When John the Baptist’s disciples ask if Jesus is the Messiah, He replies:

“Go and tell John what you hear and see: the blind receive their sight and the lame walk, lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, and the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.”

3. Luke 14:13-14

Jesus encourages including the poor:

“But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you.”

4. Luke 7:22

Similar to Matthew 11:5, confirming Jesus’ mission includes the poor:

“...the poor have the gospel preached to them.”

5. Luke 19:1–10 – The Story of Zacchaeus

Though Zacchaeus was rich, this story shows how Jesus visited outcasts and sinners. After Jesus comes to Zacchaeus’s house, he pledges to give to the poor:

Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor…” (Luke 19:8 )

The actions of Christ show that God's love is inclusive and that spiritual upliftment of the poor is an integral part of the Gospel Message

Anyone who preaches otherwise is a liar from the pit of hellfire.

He wasn't "cleared." He paid what is called restitution and the criminal charges against him were withdrawn. Note that the criminal charges were not dismissed, they were simply withdrawn.
If the criminal charges had been dismissed that would mean that the case went to trial and the evidence against him was considered by the court and the court pronounced a verdict of innocent on him.
But he was never declared innocent by the US Federal Court

What will be the consequences of this

I thought he was cleared of the Chicago drúg stuff?
