PoliticsOlawepo-hashim Faults PDP Zoning, Says Move Aids Tinubu’s 2027 Bid by blamingthedevil(op): 5:52am On Aug 26, 2025
Former presidential candidate and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has faulted the party’s decision to zone the presidency, warning that it amounts to an endorsement of President Bola Tinubu’s reelection bid.

‎Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, shortly after the PDP National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja, Olawepo-Hashim described the move as “unprecedented” in the history of the party.

‎“Zoning the presidency to the south is a default campaign for the return of President Bola Tinubu. Because those who are mounting this campaign of zoning to the south are the same people who are saying we are in PDP, but we work for President Tinubu,” he said.

‎He argued that the decision effectively weakens the PDP’s chances of producing a viable presidential candidate.

He added, “It’s a default campaign for the PDP not to have a viable candidate by those people. So this is a subtle campaign for an easy ride of Bola Tinubu’s re-election.”

‎The PDP chieftain stressed that the party had never barred any region from contesting the presidency, citing past conventions as examples.

‎“The PDP has never zoned the presidency before. In 1999, President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was then General Obasanjo, contested against Alhaji Rimi from Northern Nigeria and some other candidates, Dr Alex Ekwueme, etc.

“In 2003, as a sitting president in the villa, President Obasanjo had to contest again with Chief Barnabas Gemade from Benue, Alhaji Rimi from Kano. The party never shut the door against any zone,” he recalled.

‎He maintained that the NEC of the PDP made a “big error” by adopting the zoning decision.

“I’m not saying that they didn’t do it by majority. They did it by a majority. It was quite democratic. All the organs of the party decided. But it made a big error,” he said.

AMINDA:
No gubernatorial candidate was on the ballot during the buy-election. Realistically, why should Obidients bother about senate/house of reps election when virtually all the candidates that got elected under the LP as a result of the Obi-wave have decamped to the APC because of juicy senate committees? If anything, APC has proven that all house of assembly members are willing to decamp to the ruling party in power if the motivation is right. Even governors elected under the platform of other parties now openly endorse Tinubu simply because he has taxed Nigerians and put more monies in their coffers for them to embezzle.
You are back from incommunicado. Welcome back. The humiliation from the by-election loss did you guys dirty.

By-Election Humiliation: Obi Changes Direction ,Praises Tinubu, Security Agencies over recent successes

Sustaining the Gains Against Terrorism and Banditry

I commend the Nigerian security agencies for their recent achievements in the fight against terrorism, kidnappings, and banditry. This is indeed a remarkable feat and a step in the right direction in our collective struggle against insecurity and in restoring peace to our dear country.

Our gallant officers and men in uniform have shown courage, often under very difficult conditions. Their sacrifices remind us that Nigeria can—and must—be safe for all its citizens. I salute their professionalism and urge that they be better equipped, trained, and motivated to sustain these gains.

However, beyond arrests, we must remain vigilant. Terrorism and violent criminality thrive when justice is not served, when those arrested are recycled back into society without accountability. Justice must take its full course so that impunity is not encouraged.

Let this victory remind us that security is the foundation of every meaningful development. A secure Nigeria is possible, and together we must support our security agencies with the right leadership, resources, and political will to end the reign of terror in our land.

A New Nigeria is Possible.

Twenty Reasons Nigerians Voted For President Tinubu and the APC During the By-Election, And Why They Will Reelect Him In 2027

1. According to the Director General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, President Tinubu has "stabilised" Nigeria's economy

2. Nigeria notched a 3.84% fourth-quarter GDP growth in 2024, our highest in three years. For the full year, we secured a 3.4% GDP Growth rate, up from the 2.7% growth rate inherited from the Buhari administration in 2023. The opposition says, 'Na GDP growth rate we go chop?' Yet, when GDP growth nosedived under Buhari, they complained.

3. On July 29, 2024, President Tinubu signed the New Minimum Wage Bill into law and now Nigerian workers earn a ₦70,000 minimum wage, more than double the previous minimum wage.

4. Nigeria has met and exceeded its OPEC quota for the third month running. Something that has not happened for over a decade

5. On Thursday, June 26, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the Nigeria Tax Act, 2025, and its three associated Bills, including the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service (Establishment) Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board (Establishment) Bill, collectively known as the Tax Reform Bills, into law, thereby ushering in a period of prosperity, equity, and social security that Nigeria has not seen since Majors Emmanuel Ifeajuna and Chukwuma Nzeogwu ended the First Republic via the January 15, 1966 coup.

6. On Friday, March 4, 2025, at exactly 21:15, Nigeria broke its power generation record with a peak generation of 5,801.84MW and maximum daily energy output of 128,370.75 megawatt-hours (MWh). It is the highest ever attained in Nigeria's electricity industry history.

7. Nigeria added $67 billion to its GDP, moving from ₦269.29 trillion on May 29, 2023, when Asiwaju Tinubu became President, to ₦372.8 trillion today.

8. We achieved a record-breaking ₦16.89 trillion trade surplus, or $14 billion, as we have become less import-dependent

9. Due to the floating of the naira, our foreign reserve hit a year-to-date high of $40.877 billion. That is up from the $3.7 billion inherited from General Buhari.

10. Our national debt has reduced from $108.2 billion on May 29, 2023, to $94.2 billion today. In Nigeria's history, only two civilian governments have been able to reduce the nation's indebtedness: the Obasanjo administration and now the Tinubu government.

11. Local Government autonomy is now a reality, and LGAs are gradually becoming independent of state Governors

12. Over 600,000 students have benefited from President Tinubu's Student Loan initiative, with approximately half of that being in Northern Nigeria

13. Universities have been open for the two years of the Tinubu administration, which has never happened in the last thirty years. There has been no ASUU strike.

14. Fuel scarcity has become a thing of the past as Nigeria, once the biggest importer of fuel in Africa, is now self-sufficient in petrol refining and has now become the largest exporter of refined petroleum products in West Africa

15. The Abuja-Kano road was once the national headquarters for roadside kidnapping. But the road is now tamed under the watchful eye of Malam Nuhu Ribadu as NSA. Any kidnapper who attempts anything on that route will meet their Maker the same day.

16. Passport scarcity is now a thing of the past as Nigerians now get their passports in two weeks or less

17. Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport is now perhaps the most modern airport in Sub-Saharan Africa, and you do not need to have a human contact from the time your plane lands to when you leave the airport. Everything is electronic

18. The Niger Delta is no longer restive. Oil theft is down to 2%. For the first time in almost thirty years, peace, progress, and prosperity are returning to Ogoniland as the Tinubu administration is building a new polytechnic in Ogoni, while the cleanup is in progress

By-election: Peter Obi, El-Rufai hiding over loss, yet to wish IBB happy birthday – Omokri

A former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has mocked former Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi and ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai over the loss of their parties during the Saturday’s bye-elections in their states.

Omokri said neither Obi nor El-Rufai has recovered from the defeat to wish former military Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida a happy 80th birthday.

Posting on X, he warned that Nigerians should expect rigging claims from the duo.

He wrote: “Neither Obi nor el-Rufai has recovered enough to wish General Babangida a happy birthday as he turns 84 today.

“These are people who previously marked IBB’s birthday. Today, they lost their voices. This loss really hit Tom and Jerry hard.

“Peter Obi has still not tweeted today. Nasir el-Rufai is still in hiding. This loss really hit Tom and Jerry hard.

“By tomorrow, after they must have recovered, expect claims of rigging from Peter Obi and his new sidekick, Nasir el-Rufai, the duo, also known as Tom and Jerry.”
