Hello everyone and thanks so much for your interest in the dog. I called the guy this morning to schedule the meet/pick up of the dog but he said someone else had come to buy it yesterday. I guess it was a first come first serve basis. My only hope is whoever bought that dog will take care of it. I just felt so bad seeing the animal in such a sorry state. Thank you so much Yush, art1f3, codeinejunkie and everyone else who was willing to adopt the dog. Also if the person who bought the dog is on nairaland please update us on the dogs wellbeing.

@art1f3 same as I mentioned I don't know much about transporting a dog out of Lagos. If it's within lagos I can easily deliver the dog myself.

He said the dog is up to date will all shots and vaccinations. And that the dog has a good temperament and gets along with other dogs. Like I said I don't mind paying for the dog. I'm trying to make arrangements to get the dog tomorrow. (hopefully if it's not a scam)But honestly I know I can only keep him for a few days at most coz of what I mentioned earlier about having cats. And he would have to be isolated so as not to put my cats in danger. Do you stay in lagos?

Gosh! Kaduna is quite far and I wouldn't even know how to transport such a big dog there. Unless you can make transport arrangements

I saw this ad on olx for an 8 month old doberman going for 20k. The advert explained that the owner can't take care of the dog anymore. I called the number and the person I spoke to said he is the vet who takes care of the dog. He said the dog is up to date on all the vaccinations just that the owner can't afford to care for it anymore. I'd love to buy the dog but I know I'm not going to be able to take care of it as I have Shadow and 5 cats and I don't know how the dog will react to cats since he wasn't raised with cats like Shadow. I'm willing to pay for the dog and even contribute towards the upkeep if someone is willing to take and care for the dog as needed. Please contact me on BBC:55D9E23E

Hahaha yes he's definitely living in the limelight. I did a collage of him from when I got him till now. I just realised how big he's grown in less than 3 months. I miss his black face though. His colour has changed a bit since I got him.

I agree with what you've written. Shadow is my first German Shepherd and it's been an experience. Before I got him I did a lot of research, I wanted a dog fit into family pet plus security dog without being too menacing and the German Shepherd fit what I was looking for. I've had several different breeds in the past but I will admit that the German Shepherd is definitely one of the smartest but also stubborn(at least for me). And boy do they have energy! But it's really a fun experience having Shadow around. Food wise he was a bit picky at first but now he's getting better.

I live in Lagos. Ogudu to be precise. Is there any place the dogs can go to run around and play? Like an open field? Or we could just arrange a play date. That's assuming you live in lagos

I don't think all local dogs are mongrel. The genuine LOCAL dog has distinct features. Although a lot have been mixed with other breeds to become mongrels. I believe these dogs were indigenous to Africa(or at least maybe West Africa) just that obviously they haven't been recognised and registered by the AKC. I was doing some research online and found a breed in south Africa called the africanis, looks similar to our LOCAL dog but I think they are a bit bigger.

Training is going on quite well. A least obedience training has sunk in. She understands, Sit, Come here, Down, No. Another thing she understands very well is my cane

I have a difficult time toilet training her. She poops as if the whole compound is under her acreage . SMH for dogs

Hehehe @ my cane. I don't "discipline" shadow but I wish I did sometimes and now when I try to be tough on him he thinks I'm playing. It's really annoying when I'm trying to be serious and he's just jumping and playing around. He's also good with his obedience training but I also got a trainer to teach him some other things that I can't. Only problem now is he listens to the trainer and not me I've tried yelling in my deepest baritone voice but all it does is excite him even more. About toilet training you should read up on crate training. It's very effective, that's what I basically did for my pup and within a week he was toilet trained. He goes in specific places which makes it a lot easier.

I just give her strictly dry food without mixing anything mon - fri. She gets extra treat on weekends with wet food mix and home made dish.

Hahahaha you are so right. I think I have to be strict I tried before and he didn't eat so I gave in. Yes o! To train a dog isn't easy. I've had a lot of dogs but they were all lap dogs. Having such a huge dog is a big difference. How are you doing with her training?

My Chloe is 5 months now and counting. I have changed her food from Arion to Diamond naturals extreme Athlete. I think i'm noticing some improvement in weight gain and activity. Arion caused her to smell badly with frequent smelling poop soft as a butter. The offensive smell put me off alot.

Right now she's lost most of her puppy tooth except one which is stuck and refusing to fall off. It has started affecting the gum. I'm going to try pull it out or loosen it to allow it fall off. I hope she doesn't bite me in the process. She has bitten me before and I'm kinda careful these days with her.

You are so right about the arion food making their poo smell I haven't used diamond naturals before but I'm sure it will be good. Initially I was feeding my pup diamond puppy but when I went online to research on it I found out diamond brand dog food has had a lot of product recalls in the past. And a lot of negative reviews on people's pets getting sick and all so that's why I decided to change to arion. She is a beauty. I really love the brindle colour(I have a feeling I said that before). And she's really growing. Shadow had a little problem when he was teething as well but he's better now. Do you give her just dry food or you mix it with wet food. My Shadow is so spoilt now. He won't eat only dry food unless I mix it with fish or chicken

Yeah definitely, Shadow hasn't seen another dog since I got him. Only humans and cats. I'd really like to see how he interacts with other dogs.

A client's dog was sick and didn't eat. After treatment little 'layla' started eating and in excitement client gave her 12 boiled eggs. I mean twelve.

That was how they welcomed another sickness.

Yay!!!! He's finally eating. Took him to the vet. Said nothings wrong probably he's teething and his gums are hurting so they gave him some pain killers and roborant injection. I decided to give him fish with his kibble and he ate the whole thing up. Was even tempted to give him some more to make up for what he didn't eat yesterday. Thanks Prodeegee, wunmi590, and kuzee

Yes I will definitely be taking him to the vet tomorrow. He's on multivitamins (pet tab forte). I was reading online that it could be because he's teething so his gums are kinda sore so he may not want to eat much.

I'm getting worried, my 4 month old german shepherd is suddenly not eating. He hasn't eaten anything all day today. I feed him 3 times at set times and he would normally clean out his plate but he hasn't touched any of his food since morning. He is dewormed every 2 weeks and has all his vaccination up to date. He's still playing and drinking water but no food. I wasn't so worried in the morning but now I've thrown out all his uneaten food since morning and I'm getting worried. I was checking online to see if I would find any solutions but mostly just people asking the same question. I feed him a mix of dry puppy food and wet food or fish or chicken. I try to mix things up because he gets bored with the same food but nothing is working. If anyone has experienced something similar please let me know and possible solutions. Thanks

Thanks, someone also mentioned that he's big for his age but I don't know. This is my first German Shepherd so I don't know how big they are supposed to be at this age. I've always had lhasa apso's before now. Yes I'm an animal lover. Always been. I really hope shadow and ginger meet one day. She is really cute.

Sooooo cute, makes me want to get a turtle too. Maybe get him/her a mate to play with. (don't know if they actually play) but it's really cute

Shadow is a little over 4 months. I got him when he was 8 weeks. I've attached some pics from when I got him till now. Hope he's handsome enough for your girl

Hehehe, I don't think he's gigantic. According to all the research I've done he's just the ideal weight for his age. And the vet said I'm to feed him 4 times a day as a puppy but I don't have the time so I split it to 3 times instead.

Thank you, I feed him a mix of dry puppy food(Arion) and can wet food(chicken soup for the dog lovers soul) I feed him 3 times a day, 6am, midday and 6pm.

I don't think you should bother about his ears. My pup also has big ears which look funny as well. They never really stay straight. your pup is cute, how old is he? They grow really fast. I'm amazed at my pups growth rate. Been with me for just 2 months and he's tripled in size. If he's socialised well he won't be aggressive but people will still be scared if they don't like dogs. Shadow( my pup) loves to jump and play with everyone but some people see it as he trying to bite and attack them. I've attached pics of him when I just got him and a recent pic

So sorry about your loss. It's really painful to come home to something like that. Could it be because they were both female? I had two male lhasa apso's and had similar problem of them always fighting. It used to get bloody. In the end I had to give them out to separate people because it was becoming too much. I still see them and I know they are both happier now.

She's really cute, I think she's about the same age as Shadow(my pup and her suitor). You're right about the energy level. I call my dog shadow the destroyer because he's destroyed the garden plus ripped most of my clothes when he's trying to play tug with me. But he's just a big baby.
