Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Is This Not A Form Of Slavery? by Blast1: 3:39pm On Jul 02, 2022

Had job offer... But there's a part of contract that's making me so scared. It says employee should not join any other company doing similar things or selling similar products for the period of one year, after terminating his/her appointment. Is this not a modern form of slavery?

They can sue you to court if you accepted to offer and do otherwise. That's why you must check the terms before accepting the offer.

You gotta give it to the igbo tribe... We have that Chinese productive and commercial spirit.

Nice one

I also see women driving Keke Napep in Lagos. So, what's the big deal if Igbo women are manufacturing Auto parts in Anambra State.

Donvictor2015:

I studied electrical/electronics engineering. Lost my teaching job during the covid-19 scourge. I have been at home since march 2020. I've been trying to get another job but all efforts proved abortive. What can you advise me on? I would have loved starting a business but I don't have the capital at the moment... So, indebted at the moment. Believe me, life is really hard on me

I won't advise you to start a business because you may be frustrated and quit. Electrical Electronics Engineers are hot cake out there but you must understand the trends in the industry. You should start by volunteering in an ICT firm, and don't worry about the money. The experience and hands on training are very important. Then go to YouTube and learn new skills in IT, Telecoms and cloud computing. There are sites that you can learn and get free certificate. Learn, do the test and get the certificates. With this, you can update your CV that you are working in a related field and with good skills. Give yourself 2yrs, you won't look for job again, jobs will be looking for you. Patience is the Key !

I'm posting this to encourage someone out there.

My job hunting days started here on NL, in fact I got my first two (2) jobs here on NL after which recommendations and reputation opened more doors for me. There was one award I won in the job hunting section as the nairalander that crashes every job thread or something like that I can't remember grin

Below are what have been working for me so far.

Choose a career in the right industry
Simply put, "e get some kind work wey I no fit do."

I'm a very calculative person, I was kinda selective during my early days because I knew where the money was. I also understand that you have to start little, but no matter how little please don't settle for the low tier industries.

You will be behind in all facets of life, trust me on this one.

Competence
Nobody in life except your parents will be attracted to you if you don't have anything to bring to the table. Organizations will beg to have you and also dance to your terms when you have the right skill set to get the job done.

Under this point, I'll also add smartwork and personal development.

Networking with the right people
Do not hide under a rock, simply put do not hide behind your desk from January to December.

Go out and meet the people you exchange emails with, put names to faces. Have their whatsApp numbers and connect. They know you're competent, they'll be more than happy to have you on their team or strongly refer you .

You must jump ships
Make I use pidgin talk this one, dem no dey stay one place rise to the top. The people you met there will suppress you.

The people I left in my former places of work cannot lace my shoes right now. Please I am not bragging, I'm just stating the facts.

Jumping ships attract at least 40-60% and sometimes 100%+ salary increase and also position. So you decide where you'll pitch your tent.

The first 2 points will help you jump ships at your own will and terms.

On the other hand, don't jump ships too often.

The BIG God factor
As a Christian, I cannot overemphasize this. You're not the most hardworking or brilliant mind out there, in my career journey I see people with higher qualifications than me that are way behind and I ask myself many questions.

It will pay you to run with the grace of God, believe me on this one. I attend some interviews and I ask myself if this is an interview or a hangout. There was one I attended the top two officers were asking and answering themselves questions that was meant for me grin.

Or how do you explain when you'll put all your life problems in your salary demand (which is higher than the industry standard by 30% or so) and the company will agree 100%. Last I checked you're not the only one in the market.

I'm still on my journey, but I just feel led to share this to encourage someone out there.

From experience, I have seen that the God factor is the ultimate and Christians should use it and make their lives better. You may not be the most qualified or intelligent but the God factor will give you the advantage.

Good, the casualties and the associated malaise is too much to be ignored. Young lives are wasted and cases of rape are statistically getting too high.

We cannot continue to pamper these deadly vices and many more...

Very true
After implementing okada ban. The govt should also ban those guys carrying bags and picking things from waste bins. They should also ban the guys using wheel barrow to pick things in the street.
Career / Re: Academic Advice; as an HND graduate what next? PGD or BSC by Blast1: 3:25pm On May 30, 2022
Pearl1212:
I'm confused.
I'm 23years of age, I have HND in statistics (Distinction), done with NYSC program, I want to further my studies but I'm really confused what to do,

1. I don't know whether to opt in for PGD or BSC(Through Direct Entry).

2. I don't know if I should switch course, from statistics to accounting via Direct Entry and I don't know if HND statistics will be accepted into accounting.
Please I seriously need your opinion and advise on it.

My candid advise is for you to take a top up degree conversion form in one of our Nigerian university. You run 5 semesters and get a bachelor's degree. Otherwise, you'll miss a lot of opportunities if you don't have a bachelor's degree.

Politics / Re: With Peter Obi, We’re Confident Of Winning 2023 Presidential Election – LP by Blast1: 8:33am On May 29, 2022
BosseJ:
Is this a joke or something? Peter Obi should have stayed in PDP and used his trending popularity as leverage to negotiate for VP slot with Atiku. But his political I.Q is too low to make him see the wisdom in that. He stood the best chance of getting Igbo into Aso rock within 8-yrs minimum (in the event that Atiku wins the presidency), but his ego got the best of him.

The earlier you discourage vote buying, the better it becomes. Peter Obi made a good move to leave PDP, a party with highly corrupt politicians. Remember that Atiku will recover all the dollars he's spending right now. Don't complain when he becomes the president. No one ever knew that Obama will one day rule America but it happened. So shall LP change the narrative come 2023.

Soon, it will shock everyone of you. People are tired and they want something new. The earlier you realize that, the better for you.

He will be a great addition to your party...atleast, you will move from 5000+ votes to around 300,000+ votes pan Nigeria.

..will that be enough to win the Presidential seat of the Federal Republic of Nigeria

Make una stop the jokes.

grin grin grin grin

Modified:
This is not about the person of Peter Obi...it's about party structures and the dominant of "election illiterates" that are the major voters.

It takes a while for Nigeria's major electorates to recognise party logos...their brains have been wired to know APGA, PDP and to some extent APC in SouthEast, SouthSouth....APC, PDP in Southwest and the North.

The major headache of any politician that defects few months to general elections to a platform that is not so popular is how the electorates will recognise and identify his new party.

Trust me...Many can leave home with the aim of voting Labour party..and still forget to THUMB PRINT Umbrella logo of PDP grin grin grin.

Sadly, it's the reality that will work against Peter Obi[/quote]

We should all pray for all these to pass. It won't be funny owing to the type of weapons of mass destruction in the hands of evil leaders of today.

The prophetic landscape has never been as clear as it has been right now!

Global events are reaching a great crescendo and the perfect prophetic storm is about to break out!

Wars and rumors of wars are out of this world..
More virulent pandemics of both known and unknown diseases.
Increasingly more devastating earthquake activity.
Unprecedented and escalating volcanic eruptions, Abnormal weather patterns, global drought, Worldwide famine.
Round the clock total surveillance of every person on earth
Loss of all personal freedoms, personal property, and all civil liberties
Increased violence, breakdown of law and order
So-called “alien” disclosure and “contact”.
Nuclear conflict.:
It’s all coming, and it’s all converging right now in real time.

The next prophetic event to occur will be the sudden snatching away of the Remnant Church “when the impossible to believe becomes impossible to ignore.”

Be Ready Folks! Be Ready! Make Peace with JESUS Christ by Surrendering the totality of your life to JESUS Christ and Live in Preparation of HIS imminent Coming.

On the day the trumpets sounds, a lot of people are gonna wish they listened to this Crazy JESUS/ Endtimes preacher.

To avoid stories that touch, don't say anything derogatory about another person's religion. Worship your God in your own way and keep quiet.

How can you avoid a sect that sees people of other faith as infidel. Whereas, they can confront you and argue that your Jesus is a myth and just a prophet. The northern Muslims should learn from the Yoruba Muslims in the West.

Politics / Re: State Policing, Restructuring: Obasanjo Had Opportunity But Did Nothing- Adesina by Blast1: 12:35pm On Apr 24, 2022
God1000:
Obasanjo did a lot for Nigeria, he never divided Nigeria along ethnic and religious lines, he was a president for all and sundry, the reason nobody agitated for restructuring under him.

The same cannot be said about this government that keeps dividing Nigeria everyday.

Buhari's body language has so much emboldened killer herdsmen and bandits to continue their heinous acts particularly in my state benue, they kill innocent people everyday and get away with it, no punishment.

He also made Nigeria the poverty capital of the world.

He's not a good and patriotic president, history won't be kind to him

My biggest mistake was voting for him in 2015 thinking he was the Messiah we've been waiting for

It pains me so much what Nigerian has been reduced to, I'm stained by the ugliness of this place

Obasanjo is one of the best thing that happened to Nigeria but most people will never accept it. He did a lot without too many media publicity.

Most people voted in 2015 based on sentiments to the extent of falsely castigating Good luck Jonathan.

My prayer is that God should give us the right leader with godly wisdom.
