MilitantAtheist:Why are graduates of polytechnics so aggressive? Common Bro, when I said I feel your pain, I meant it in the most honest and noble way and I mean no disrespect But from all indications you are all out to fight dirty. I won't do that with you because on my BSC certificate was written " you have graduated both in CHARACTER and in learning".... Go get a BSC bro, Diploma was created to make you a second fiddle.. 1 Like |

Pearl1212: You are 23. You have HND in statistics with distinction. Do you enjoy statistics? If you really enjoy statistics and you're very good at it then your future goals naturally must involve research work. There are many international NGOs that will pay good money for someone with excellent statistical analysis skills. So if you enjoy statistics and you're good at it then your goal should be to work with an international NGO in a research capacity. It is only after you have properly thought about it and reached this level of determination that you can ask should I do PGD in what or BSC in what? Which one will get you to the place you want to go faster? Good luck. |

HND+ Bsc or HND only. They are both meaningless nowadays. Go for professional certification in IT or write ICAN or ACCA( ACCA will even offer u B.sc,M.sc, MBA) if you so desire to hold all those paper degrees. Most HND holders also holds B.sc , employers are no longer looking out for that. |

Hello @ Pearl1212(f), Please, take a bit of time to read through this. First, I would like you to consider the advice of these usernames: @Dettogel, @MilitantAtheist, @Yankee101, and @Corporate2020. You are still very young and your course of study is a hot cake if you could concentrate on any thing like Data Analytics, and also learn useful coding languages. One of the ways this can be achieved is if you plan to study abroad. To be specific, try the USA. please, think 'globally'. These are the steps: (1) Do a credential evaluation. You may use the World Education Services (WES) or any other credential evaluation bodies. However, WES appears to be the most commonly and widely accepted. The result will state that you have an equivalence of a USA degree. (2) You may write the GRE. It helps you get funding faster and easier. It also helps during the visa interview. Without the GRE, people still get fundings and do get their visa as well. What I am saying is that it helps boost the chances. (3) English Language Proficiency may be required. However, most schools in the USA do waive this requirement to Nigerians. With the three conditions above, alongside your stellar GPA(distinction), you can get a full ride tuition free and a monthly stipend package in the USA. Please, check the USA student thread on Nairaland here. I have younger ones I'm mentoring , and do advise them never to try going for a 3-year direct entry or any top-up degree; it's a waste of time. This is the reason: the same three years, you can achieve a lot by traveling to the USA, get a master's degree with Graduate Assistantship position that covers your tuition and living expenses( in form of monthly stipend). In the third year, you are already working on Optional Practical Training(OPT) or on H1-B, thereby contributing meaningfully to your own wellbeing and those of your parents or siblings. You may also have started your doctoral program if you wish to pursue a PhD. You can now see the HUGE difference. I was once in your shoes some years back but could not get this kind of advice I'm offering now. I went ahead to do a B.Sc but later realized it was not really necessary after being in the 'saner climes'. I have seen lot of peeps with HND who came for direct masters degree and now working with top 500 fortune companies in the world. Some are now Assistant Professors in schools with higher rating than any of the best universities in Nigeria. At times, when I read comments here on Nairaland about how HND is a 'useless' certificate, not a degree, or not equivalent to a B.Sc, I feel the ignorance being displayed. To put things straight, a holder of HND going for B.Sc in the same field is just like someone with MENG enroling for M.Sc again. The supposed research component of B.Sc is what makes the difference. A university is given the name because it is a research institution. The purpose for establishing Polytechnics and Monotechnics is different from that of a university. This purpose does not make a B.Sc superior to HND. For those who might want to argue, please, note that I have both certificates from the supposed top Polytecnics and universities in Nigeria, so, it's not a case of 'rubishing' what one does not have. The education system in Nigeria needs a complete overhauling. Now, think of this, if some of the best institutions in the world domicile in the USA have no problem in admitting HND holders directly into their Master's program, while universities in Nigeria with very low world rankings are feeling like 'Superheroes', then you should know something is wrong with the thinking process and our systems. If top organizations in the USA like IBM, Intel,HoneyWell(not the one in Nigeria please), top banks, and other giant coys see no problem in employing individuals with HND holder undergraduate background, then we should understand that all is not well with our priorities, thinking process. Unfortunately, society has been fed with that very wrong notion about HND! Okay, read this story of Ibrahim Waziri: https://www.farooqkperogi.com/2016/09/ibrahim-waziri-from-hnd-in-nigeria-to.html I am sure, if it was in Nigeria, he might still be reminded that he had no B.Sc. So, please, let's have a change of attitude towards this HND degree and think globally! Enough of this epistle! @ Pearl1212(f), if you are interested in advancing your career without wasting any time in the name of going for another three-year B.Sc or one -year PGD, please, follow the steps above. There are lots of Nairalanders in USA Students thread that would be of help and guide you. You can send me a PM if you need mentorship in this area (this is completely optional and not important, as you will get enough information on Nairaland). 7 Likes 1 Share |

Nothing to add, you made a whole lot of sense. Learn data analytics and do conversion programme to earn a degree. In 2-3 years, you can achieve them. Then you will still be around 26 years. koldej: |

Pearl1212:Reason: After reading PGD, you will be howering in the middle of Statistics and Accounting. You will spend about 3 years just for a PGD that is as 'useless' as any thing useless. Rather spend the three years in get a real degree. |

Pearl1212: My candid advice to you bro... Go for HND conversion with private university. University like Ajayi Crowther University or Crawford University does the conversion. I guess 18month or so. As a stat graduate you can be doing other side hustle and upscaling your certificate. Even if you want to jaapa on a peace of mind level, All this certificate make this up. 1 Like |

Localemperor:but I'm rich for my age and growing rich every day, just yesterday how much I made from sales of eggs alone? Sales of animal feeds produced locally? Not to talk if my consultancy services? We talking about success here on Earth! As long as you're still poor and unproductive a stack illiterate roadside orange seller is better than you. by law both are equal but I don't give a damn, by practical I'm superior with my HND, hnd made me what I am today and what I'm growing to become in the nearest future cus I started flexing Agric money from the early days as ND2 I.T student, you're a poor jobless old boy still getting fed by your poor harlot mother browsing with ur stupid techno. Tell that to government that already equated it. Again stop depending on your prostitute mother to feed you and ur uselss bsc paper, you should be ashamed at your age you mother still feeds you from her prostitution. Like I said visit me at the aforementioned locations, you need a job even though a job will never make you rich but only render you a slave for life. But it's unfortunate for you that you've not even gotten to that level where you have to slave for people in the name of a job,, you harlot mom still feeds you. Think of your life, have some shame and dignity. Get out of your mother's house come to me in Delta, I will teach you first then employ you. I will not only get bsc, Msc but my professorship in my so much cherished career. You know why I started doing Bsc Animal Science through D.E? Because I need to do my real calling which is Zoology and Animal Taxonomy. That's when I will be truly fulfilled and not because I'm not proud of my HND and next year I'm rounding up my bsc weekend programme to enable me do Masters and PhD in Zoology and Animal Taxonomy, I can't do them with HND Agriculture, I can only achieve that with a degree in pure Animal Science by God's grace I'm getting done next year June and proceeding for my masters abroad. You can enjoy your useless certificate Mr first fiddle feeding from his harlot mom. Stay cool bro |

Pearl1212: My candid advise is for you to take a top up degree conversion form in one of our Nigerian university. You run 5 semesters and get a bachelor's degree. Otherwise, you'll miss a lot of opportunities if you don't have a bachelor's degree. 1 Like |
