Politics / Re: Peaceful Protest: Injustice And Mistreatment Of Chevron EGTL Workers. 2023 by blaze2cool(m): 9:25am On Jan 15, 2023 |
This article highlights the ongoing struggle of the Chevron EGTL workers in Nigeria to receive fair treatment and benefits from their employer and contractors. The workers have been protesting and demanding a uniform contract with benefits and allowances that are in line with local and international labor laws. The fact that some contractors have raised wages while others have not, and that other benefits promised by Chevron Nigeria management have yet to be implemented, is deeply concerning. It is important that Chevron and its contractors take the demands of the workers seriously and take immediate action to rectify the situation. The workers have been employed at the facility for over a decade and deserve to be treated with respect and fairness. The fact that they had to resort to protests to have their voices heard is a clear indication that their concerns have not been adequately addressed. It is also important to note that the workers are appealing to traditional rulers, the President of Nigeria, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, the Governor of Delta State, and the member of the House of Assembly Warri federal constituency, to intervene and demand that Chevron and its contractors fulfill their promises. This is a clear indication that the workers have exhausted all internal channels of communication and have not received a resolution. Overall, this article shines a light on the ongoing struggle of workers in the oil and gas industry to receive fair treatment and benefits, and the need for companies to ensure that they are in compliance with local and international labor laws. The workers deserve to be treated with respect and dignity and should be provided with fair contracts and benefits. |
Politics / Peaceful Protest: Injustice And Mistreatment Of Chevron EGTL Workers. 2023 by blaze2cool(m): 9:17am On Jan 15, 2023 |
In the third quarter of 2022, the workers of Chevron's Escravos Gas to Liquid (EGTL) facility in Nigeria staged protests against the poor treatment and lack of benefits they had received from their employer and contractors. The workers, many of whom had been employed at the facility for over a decade, reported that they had been working without signed contracts or fair conditions of service, and that inflation had greatly reduced their daily pay without any increase. In response, Chevron and the workers engaged in a round table talk and agreed to meet all worker demands by the end of December 2022. However, as of now, while some contractors have raised the wages of their workers, others have not and have claimed that their contracts are separate from those of other contractors. Additionally, other benefits promised by Chevron Nigeria management for December 2022 have yet to be implemented. The EGTL workers are now calling on traditional rulers, the President of Nigeria, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, the Governor of Delta State, and the member of the House of Assembly Warri federal constituency to intervene and demand that Chevron and its contractors fulfill their promises. The workers are requesting a uniform contract with benefits and allowances that are in line with local and international labor laws, including: Harmonization of renumeration for all contractors and joint venture partners Pension plans Medical allowances Abolition of the "no work no pay" policy and implementation of time off rate End of year and Christmas bonuses Housing allowances Transportation allowances Production bonuses Maternity and sick leave Life insurance Safety allowances Night shift allowances for night workers Annual salary increments Child educational support Payoff/end of contract settlement COVID-19 inconvenience allowances The workers are also appealing to the traditional rulers, Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse III, Pere of Gbaramatu, President of Nigeria, the Minister of Petroleum Resources, the Governor of Delta State and the member House of Assembly Warri federal constituency to call on Chevron and their contractors to immediately implement these demands. Nairaland / General / Peaceful Protest: Slavery A Reality In Chevron-egtl Escravos, Nigeria by blaze2cool(m): 10:13am On Mar 15, 2022 |
SLAVERY A REALITY IN CHEVRON-EGTL ESCRAVOS, NIGERIA We, the junior workers in Chevron-EGTL, Escravos. Nigeria, we have so far been treated as slaves with no regards to our Health and Welfare, this has been our greatest concern for far too long and we can no longer bear it. Despite the reality that we are exposed to various types of dangerous Chemicals and Gases on a daily basis, there is no medical retainership arrangement for our treatment. When we fall sick at work we don’t have sick leave they will only book us out of the site to sort ourselves without official hospital to take care of us, we have to borrow money to treat ourselves and to make matters worse for the days we are away treating ourselves, we will not be paid because there is no sick leave or compensation for us the workers. “We are demanding for Medical Retainership care for us giving the hazardous environment in which we work” “We are also demanding sick leave and Compassionate leave that will help us when the need arises” A situation where our female workers put to birth and they will not be paid for the period they are away for child birth is highly regrettable because there is no maternity leave “We are demanding Maternity leave for our Female workers” A system where there is disparity in the remuneration of workers of the same Craft all in the name of Terminal-Inhouse and EGTL, regardless of both been the same Chevron and more so in the same Escravos where the Terminal-Inhouse contract is far better than that of EGTL despite the known fact that work activities and hazards are higher in EGTL than Terminal. “We demand Harmonized rate between Terminal-Inhouse and EGTL workers - for “One Escravos” to be beyond mere words” A situation whereby workers are kept at home without pay or any form of compensation, leaving workers with nothing to take care of their family, putting workers in a vulnerable state causing them to beg and borrow money, is unacceptable. “We are demanding a Time-off rate to be applicable for all workers” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCs0k6jQm6c

Ayomideayo: You have a point, but how many girls dem don ask about what they will like to study or how they will further their education? Even if a guy ask them the same question and they tell you what they want to study what will you do about it? People have been asking us what we want to be come when we grow up and may will say doctor, lawyers and Engineer..... But will later end up being a fashionister or an online Fashion liners lol. Well Girls of this days have no better way of spending their time but with a male companion they feel comfortable around and before you know it broda go shift Her pant. My advice better not start what you can't finish, in other words lose what you can tight and tight what you can lose. Brothers and sisters use your sense |

Family / Re: Sex Is Causing Problems In My Marriage, Help Me Save My Marriage by blaze2cool(m): 11:11am On Jun 29, 2019 |
I know a lot of people might have said so much that will probably help the OP Let me tell you something about women..... They like it sexy and rosy. Start your relationship all over again, take her out, make her happy, change her wardrobe do things that will get you attracted to her again and after that work on yourself, focus on looking good for your woman if possible Change your wardrobe as well.....smell nice get that charm again and I believe it will help you trust me. I know all the things I mentioned above might not come easily because you'll need financial support but all the same it is at the expense of your marriage as you claim you love your wife( family) so do anything to save it if that will be the cost. Thanks. 2 Likes |
Education / How To Overcome MENTAL FATIGUE by blaze2cool(m): 4:44pm On Jun 28, 2019 |
Do you often feel like the day have too few hours for all that you have to do? Do you constantly feel exhausted even when you have been sitting all day? Are you getting irritated and angry at the slightest provocation? These are all signs of mental fatigue, or your brain begging you to stop and take a break. Mental fatigue is a condition caused by over-taxation of your cognitive abilities, when your brain reaches its capacity limits and goes into continuous stress mode. Long term mental fatigue can cause serious harm through increased stress, diminished brain performance, and even serious conditions like insomnia, Depression, Eating and Anxiety disorders. Most common symptoms of mental fatigue include: Mental block Irritability Emotional eating Lack of sleep Confusion and faltering executive functioning Overwhelming sense of exhaustion What causes mental fatigue? Any kind of mental activity, if driven to its tipping point, can cause brain exhaustion. But some mental activities can be especially enhausting for your brain if not allowed proper rest and rejuvenation period. Decision-making Jobs that require almost constant decision-making are more prone to cause mental fatigue. Decision making particularly engages your executive functioning capabilities and it is one of the busiest areas of your brain. This doesn’t even have to be big decisions, just signing legal documents all day, and even having to choose between options constantly can have the same effect. Procrastination Whatever our brain may tell at the moment, putting off a job endlessly is a far more stressful experience than actually doing the job. The anxiety about whether or not we will be able to finish the job eats up our mental energy, thereby exhausting us far more quickly. Lack of sleep Sleep is essential for almost all your bodily functions, but most visibly for your brain. A lot of important mental processes happen during our sleep, apart from providing the crucial period of rest and rejuvenation. Lack of sufficient sleep over a long period of time adds to our body’s sleep debt and that is one of the biggest causes of mental fatigue. Multi-tasking Taking up more tasks than you can comfortably complete in a given period of time is a surefire formula for mental fatigue to set in. Our brain does not work well when it has to constantly shift between different tasks; it divides our mental energy and as a result none of the tasks receive enough attention. Multi-tasking is likely to end up in fast depletion of mental energy, exhaustion of executive functioning, and heightened anxiety – all causes of mental fatigue. How to overcome mental fatigue Have more green spaces Greenery and natural environments have been scientifically proven to have an almost magical effect on stressed-out brains. Just 10 minutes in a park can increase productivity by almost 50% by soothing and healing an overworked brain. Schedule times during the day to have a walk in the neighbourhood park, or if you have any woods lying about your home or workplace, nothing like it! If you don’t have access to outside green spaces, surround your workspace with potted plants. Keep your life boring Decision making is one of the biggest depletors of mental energy, and having a simple and repetitive routine is a good way to minimize choice and decision-making in day-to-day life. Have the same meal five days a week. Meal prep for the week ahead on the weekend. Wear the same kind of clothes every day. Clean your dishes as soon as you finish eating so things don’t pile up later. Wake up and go to sleep at the same time every day You’d be amazed how much energy can conserve just by switching to the ‘boring’ life. Schedule several breaks through the day Every 35-45 minutes, get up from your workspace and take a 5-10 minutes break. Just flex your legs, grab a coffee, look away from all the screens, go out to the balcony. Keep the breaks short, but have many of them throughout the day. These little rest and rejuvenation periods go a long way in replenishing your energy capacity throughout the day. Be realistic about tasks Be realistic about your capacity each day and take on tasks accordingly. At the start of each day, draw-up a to-do list with high to low priority ranking. Also note down short-term and long-term priorities. Assign an estimate of time needed to complete each with enough resting periods. If your task list exceeds your timeline, shift some on the next day or delegate responsibilities when possible. Taking on more than you can chew is only going to shoot up your anxiety levels, further depleting your mental energy and interfering with your ability to complete the task. Conclusion Our lives are busy, and responsibilities keep piling up as we age. In all the humdrum we tend to forget the one organ that bears the biggest brunt of all our tasks – our brain. Remember, nobody can toil endlessly; there’s a tipping point for everyone’s brain. So listen to your brain when it seems overwhelmed and wants to stop. There are bigger problems at store if you don’t. https://kwiklearning.com/kwik-tips/what-is-mental-fatigue-and-how-to-overcome-it/ 1 Like |
