Celebrities / Nollywood Actresses Of Yester Years With( FOTOS ) by blaze2cool(m): 10:14am On Jan 02, 2016
•What they were and where they are

Long before them, we had Funmilayo Ranco, Ogunde’s wives and the likes, but the emergence of the Nigerian movie industry otherwise known as Nollywood ushered in this new set of actresses who ruled the screen, sold millions of movies with their acts and got us all glued to the TV screen.

They were the stars long before the Omotolas and Genevieves of Nigeria. Some of them have continued to feature in movies since with present days stars and some simply stepped aside. Others took to other interests. Here is Sunday Sun’s 10 Nollywood actresses of yester years.

Barbara Soky
In her days, Barbara was like Omotola and Genevieve rolled into one. She was young, hot, savvy, and had an aura which made her the toast of viewers. She dined with the rich and famous and was always in gossip columns. She started acting in the ‘80s after getting a role in Inside Out and went on to team up with Lola Fani- Kayode in Mirror in the Sun and then much later Zeb Ejiro’s Ripples. Her acting was not the only thing making headlines. Her relationship with Danladi Bako, her daughter Maxine were also subjects of news. She took a break when fame became a burden for several years and sought the limelight again in early 2000 with Amaka Igwe’s Solitaire but by then, her magnetic aura had vanished and the new generation knew no Barbie, the new stars were the in-thing.

Liz Benson
She could best be described as the altar ego of Regina Askia and until they both bowed out of the ambience of stardom , their rivalry was on the front burner of news. Liz Benson made us look forward to movies and her face sold millions of movies. The 44 years old Liz started acting in 1993 featuring in Fortunes and remained the postal girl for many years before stepping aside to answer God’s calling into the vineyard. Yeah, you read it right, Liz Benson is now a pastor based in Port Harcourt. She remarried last year after being a widow for several years. For years to come, those old enough will still continue to talk about her role in Glamour Girls, True Confession and Izaga.

Regina Askia
Regina had many things working for her and the world was practically at her feet. She was beautiful, suave, and brainy. With a degree from University of Lagos (UNILAG) and her crown as Miss UNILAG, Askia had her path charted for her before graduation. She was meant for the showbiz world and that was where she headed. After emerging Miss Nigeria in 1989 (following the resignation of Bianca Onoh, the then queen) Askia followed-up with a role in Mega Fortunes and was the lead act in several movies. She left the world of showbiz and went to America in the early 2000s and settled with her husband, Radolph Rudy Williams and had since given birth to two children. She is currently a practicing nurse in America.

Sandra Achums
Call her the movie bad girl and you won’t be wrong. Sandra had her cup of fun filled to the brim and never give a hoot about what you thought. She was the leader of Team B after the likes of Liz Benson and Regina Askia. Once married, Sandra made the soft sell thrive in her days because many wanted to know what was happening in the life of their star who was set to take over from Liz and Regina. It never happened because Sandra relocated to Germany where she now resides and is raising a family with her husband.

Victoria Inyama
Not particularly the best when it comes to acting, Victoria Inyama made up for it with hard work and off the stage gossips for celebrity writers. She was the alternative for Sandra Achums and sometimes held her own like in Rejected Son. She never made the A-list but she made a lasting impression. She left Nigeria in early 2000 for UK where she now resides with her husband.

Hilda Dokubo
Hilda did not travel out . She isn’t ill , but she just seems tired of Nollywood. She was one of the front runners in the early days of Nollywood, with stellar performance in Evil Passion, Total Desire, and Goodbye Tomorrow and others. Hilda warmed her way into the hearts of many and she has made an enduring impression. She left the scene to take up activism and an unspecified contract job with Rivers State government. Hilda was one of those that made the industry tick but she now prefers life outside the limelight where there is more peace and perhaps more money.

Omoladun Kenkelewu
She was Baba Suwe’s wife and made many laugh with her sharp humour. In her days, no movie was complete without Omoladun’s face adoring the jacket. Her best came to the fore when she acted alongside her husband. She died last year from a complication arising from high blood pressure.

Ameze Imariagbe
Many still believe that Ameze should not have left the scene when she did because that was when her star was just blossoming. She left in the ‘90s when her career was just taking off. She later granted an interview saying she had other priorities in her life. Now residing in Europe, pretty Ameze was known then as the teary Ameze because she cried so easily in movies.

Ego Boyo
From Checkmate, Violated to Keeping Fate, Ego Boyo rocked our world. She was the fine girl with sexy eyes that made most husbands receive knocks from their wives whenever she is on TV. Her performance was so timeless that we thought she would be on forever but Ego had other thoughts. She wanted a world where she would be the one to call the shots. She is doing that right now with Temple Production , the production company that has been doing great producing movies, documentaries and commercials for corporate bodies.

Funmi Martins
Funmi Martins was the rave of the Yoruba genre of the movie industry. Without her , your movies might flop in the market. With her, you are sure of a sell-out as Funmi acted so well that she became a standard for good acting. She died in the late 90s but her daughter Made had since taken over from where she stopped.

Romance / My Girlfriend’s Mother Is Pregnant For Me; But It’s Not My Fault! by blaze2cool(m): 4:17pm On Nov 20, 2015
My Fellow Nairalanders, Pls Help Me out Here ooooo,

I actually Stumbled on this Confession on facebook so pls kindly answer the writer,
Though Wonders shall Never ends, at least we can learn from Our Mistakes.....

Dear reader, My name is Elvis, pls I you to look at this situation that I’ve found myself and tell me if I’m wrong:

I got a house for my girlfriend out of my parent’s house just because I wanted us to have our privacy before we get married. I am always going there to spend the night most times and she did not tell me that her mother is very young and beautiful; a single woman.
But one day I went to “our house” and she introduced me to her mum, the woman really liked me. But I didnt know that it’s not just like, but love. One day my girl was on night shift in the hospital where she works and her mum called me around 7:30 that I should come to the house that she wants to see before she goes back.
I went and she told me the house is bored, that I should spend the night with her and stay till my girl is back in the morning so we can both take her to the park to return to Asaba.
I agreed and in the night she woke me up from the chair and asked me to join in her bed…
My heart skipped but she said no problem she just don’t want me to have neck pain by sleeping on the chair till morning. I followed her to the bed and in less than five minutes she has taken off her wrapper and was with me under the blanket. I understand what she wanted and by looking at her bare body I was already in the mood, so I slept with her, like 3 times before morning and I even enjoyed her more than her daughter.
When she left, my girlfriend was angry that I spend the night in “our house” with her mum without telling her but I told her it was her mum’s idea and that I did not complain since her mum told me that I would stay till she got back from work. I lied to her that nothing happened, that’s my mistake.
The mum called me after last Christmas and told me that she was pregnant for me and that we should tell my girl so that her daughter can “cry small and then look for another man”. The woman wants to marry me.
My girlfriend is aware now and she is cursing me, threatening my life.

But is it my fault? Pls I’m confused!

Politics / Boko Haram Overtakes ISIS As World’s Deadliest Terror Organisation-IndependentUK by blaze2cool(m): 3:16pm On Nov 20, 2015
Boko Haram operates in mainly Nigeria but has also launched attacks in Chad and Cameroon

Boko Haram has overtaken Isis as the world’s most deadly terrorist organisation, according to a new report.

The Nigerian-based terror group, also known as Islamic State’s West’s Africa province (ISWAP), was responsible for 6,644 deaths in 2014.

In comparison, Isis is believed to have killed 6,073 people in the same period. Boko Haram pledged allegiance to the group, also known as the Islamic State, in March of this year.

Isis has certainly sought - and achieved - global notoriety since it announced its creation of a caliphate across Syria and Iraq in June 2014.

Isis threatens New York in 'new video'

It has its own media arm which pumps out propaganda videos and messages to either inspire supporters or strike fear into those it regards as enemies with graphic footage glorifying executions and torture. It has also claimed responsibility for the most recent terror attacks in Paris and Egypt, where a plane containing 229 was downed.

Boko Haram carries out most of its atrocities in north Africa. Over the past year, Nigeria witnessed a 300 per cent rise in fatalities from terror acts to 7,512. This is the largest increase in terrorist-caused deaths ever recorded by any country, and is predominantly down to Boko Haram’s expansion.

In 2013, Nigeria ranked fifth in terms of the highest levels of deaths, but moved to second last year.

Boko Haram is not limited to Nigeria: in 2014 the group doubled its attack and expanded into Chad and Cameroon, in 2014 staging 46 attacks and claiming 520 lives.

While increased use of explosives and bombs – thanks to training from other terrorist outfits – has characterised more recent Boko Haram attacks, the majority of attacks remain armed assaults using machine guns.

The data, published in the third edition of the Global Terrorism Index, was produced by the Institute for Economic and Peace, and drawn from data collected by the Global Terrorism Database (GTD), collated by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism.

Politics / Muslims Slaughtered Thirty Two People In Nigeria! by blaze2cool(m): 5:10pm On Nov 19, 2015
The suicide bomber exploded as truckers were tucking into dinner at the bustling marketplace where vendors urged them to buy sugar cane. At least 34 people were killed and another 80 wounded here in Yola, a town packed with refugees from Nigeria’s conflict, emergency officials said Wednesday.

Then two more suicide bombers killed at least three people in the northern city of Kano Wednesday, according to police.

The blasts, with a combined death toll of 37, are the latest by Boko Haram, Nigeria’s Islamic extremists whose 6-year insurgency has killed 20,000 and caused 2.3 million to flee their homes.

The explosions came as President Muhammadu Buhari pressed his campaign against Nigeria’s endemic corruption blamed for hampering the fight against the extremists. Buhari accused a former national security adviser of stealing billions of dollars meant to buy weapons to fight Boko Haram, when soldiers had just a few bullets and the Islamic extremists were rampaging across northeast Nigeria.

Critics long have blamed corruption for the military’s failures, asking how the insurgents can be better armed than Nigerian soldiers despite an annual defence budget of more than $5 billion, supplemented last year by a loan of $1 billion.

Buhari ordered the arrests of several former high-ranking officials allegedly linked to fraudulent and fictitious arms contracts totalling $5.4 billion, one of his advisers, Femi Adesina, said in a statement.

“Thousands of needless Nigerian deaths would have been avoided” if the money had been properly spent, Adesina said.

Boko Haram was named Wednesday as the world’s most deadly extremist group in the Global Terrorism Index. Deaths attributed to Boko Haram increased by 317 per cent in 2014 to 6,644 compared to 6,073 blamed on the Islamic State group. Boko Haram pledged allegiance to IS in March and calls itself that group’s West Africa Province.

The unending violence has torn apart Nigeria’s northeast. In the city of Yola, hit by a suicide bombing for the third time in as many months, relatives searching for missing loved ones converged on the two main hospitals.

“I couldn’t find them at the hospital so I had to come to the mortuary,” said a distraught Musa Adamu. He said his brother, Kamal, was selling sugar cane to truckers and his uncle had gone to look for him.

Adamu found both bodies at the morgue.

Eight children were among the dead, said Yola Specialist Hospital director Dr. Bala Sa’id.

Nigerians ask why the government has been unable to bring an end to Boko Haram’s violence. Many blame corruption and welcome the order for the arrest of Sambo Dasuki, the former security adviser accused of diverting billions that should have equipped the army.

“Beyond corruption, Dasuki should be charged for high treason: Men, women and children died because their armed forces could not defend them,” one angry Nigerian, D. Olusegun, tweeted.

Buhari ordered the arrest of Dasuki, a key adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan from 2012, and other unnamed high-ranking officials identified in an interim report by a presidential committee investigating arms procurement since 2007. The investigation is part of the fight against endemic corruption that Buhari has waged since taking office in May.

Dasuki is accused of awarding “phantom contracts” to buy 12 helicopters, four fighter jets and munitions worth $2.9 billion that never were supplied, Adesina said. Buhari fired him in July.

Never once have I seen any of these hashtag warriors put a “pray for Nigeria” meme. I guess the French are considered more important than Nigerians.

Romance / 5 Things That Happen When You Stop Having Regular S EX by blaze2cool(m): 4:15pm On Nov 13, 2015
Breakups, work, travel, work-related travel: There are a lot of reasons your S£X life may be stalled. And surprisingly, your dry spell in the sack can affect more than the number of times you wash your sheets.

Here are five things that can happen when you go on a s’εxy-time hiatμs:

1. You’ll Feel More Anxious

Fact: S’εx helps people blow off steam. Scottish researchers found that people who abstained from s’εx struggled to cope with stressful situations like public speaking—more than those who had intεrcoμrse at least once over a two-week period. Weird, right? Here’s how it works: During s’εx, the brain releases feel-good chemicals, such as endorphins and oxytocin, which help you feel more at ease. Try to make up for that relaxing roll in the hay by rolling out your yoga mat.

2. You’re More Susceptible to Colds and Flu

Less s’εx may reduce your exposure to germs, and unfortunately, you’ll also miss out on the immune-boosting benefits of a weekly bump and grind.

Researchers at Wilkes-Barre University in Pennsylvania found that people who had s’εx once or twice a week enjoyed a 30 percent boost in an antibody that serves as the body’s first line of defence against viruses, compared with those who had s’εx rarely or never, according to the study.

3. Your Risk for a UTI Drops

Nearly 80 percent of urinary tract infections occur within 24 hours of intεrcoμrse, according to a study published in the journal American Family Physician. During s’εx, bacteria in the vag!na can end up pushed into the urethra, where it causes an infection. So on the bright side, when you stop having s’εx, your risk for the painful peeing condition plummets, which is a huge bonus.

4. If You’re in a Relationship, It Might Get Weird

Not having s’εx can take a toll on your relationship security, say experts. “Going without s’εx in a relationship can impact your self-esteem and decrease levels of oxytocin or other bonding hormones,” says Les Parrott, Ph.D., a psychologist and author of Saving Your Marriage Before It Starts. It can also increase fears that one of you will look to others for your s’εxμal needs.

However, Parrott points out that a s’εx-free period in a relationship doesn’t mean you can’t be happy. Since s’εx is just one expression of int!macy for couples, kissing, handholding, and giving compliments can help you feel connected with your partner emotionally even if you’re not spending time connecting physically.

5. You May Feel Down in the Dumps, But Not for the Reason You Think

According to a study in the journal Archives of Sεxμal Behaviour, women feel more depressed the longer they go without having s’εx. But it may not be the lack of s’εx that got them down. The study team found that women whose partners wore C0ND0MS felt just as blue. The researchers say some compounds found in sεmεn including melatonin, sεrotonin, and oxytocin may have mood-boosting benefits for women who have unprotected intεrcoμrse. Of course, there are plenty of drawbacks to unprotected s’εx, too. (Call it a double-edged manhood?)

Jokes Etc / My Experience In Enugu......(No be Joke ooo) by blaze2cool(m): 7:54pm On Oct 28, 2015
A friend asked me to wait 4 him in Xtastee fast food an eatery here in Enugu... So I ordered for something to eat while waiting, I noticed a rich well dressed man in Agbada.
About 50secs later, a man went to this rich man & told him he lost his wife & needed money.
Immediately the rich man gave him a Million naira cheque out of pity.
Wow! I was shocked and excited at the same time.
Another man went in crying that he lost his father and needed money for burial.
This good rich man gave him a million naira cheque too.
As 042 boy wey I be I no fit carry last na, I told myself that "I CAN'T BE LEFT OUT".
For a few minutes I was cooking in my mind, the type of pitiful lie I will also tell to receive my own 1 million...
I summoned courage and went to d rich man. I told him I lost my grandfather and I need money.
I was crying, shedding hot tears & rolled on the ground expecting this man to open his briefcase & give me a cheque too.
Suddenly I heard a noise behind me: "CUT!!! CUT!!! CUT!! Mr. Man, You Can't interrupt Our Film. We Are Shooting A Movie Here! ...
