....dreamer..

PHAYOL81:
The road may be rough but it is leading us right to the beautiful garden of hope and prosperity we all want. Lagos came through such bumpy ride in her early days of rescusitation too only to rebound onto a smooth path to stability. I believe similar fate awaits Nigeria too.
PoliticsRe: The 2019 Tinubu Speech We Ignored Is Biting Back - Farooq Kperogi by Blazetrailer: 9:37pm On May 11, 2024
..i read it, sir. What I'm poiting out to you is that it is not an idea at all. It never works. You should not even judge it to be a good one then or at any other time.

When I heard it, I just assumed he was high on coke or something and the gullible audience did not dare correct him. No half educated person mutters that, talk more of someone labeled as a "first class accounting graduate, with CPA"

SmartyPants:
Is it that you can't read or do you just love to talk? Did i not clearly just say I didn't agree with the policy?

PoliticsRe: The 2019 Tinubu Speech We Ignored Is Biting Back - Farooq Kperogi by Blazetrailer:
..you dont have enough idea about economics either. Theories and actual experiences have shown that fiscal taxes are most ineffective control of inflation. Monetary policies are. Tinubu goofed. He must have overheard one of those his patch patch advisers saying something like that, he just rushed to blurt it out without thinking. Just like he goofed in devaluing the currency by not weighing the total implications. Something managed effectively by an illiterate like Buhari. Now inflation is projected to be near 40% by year end and Nigeria economy contract to the 4th largest in Africa. from 1st position, based on one brazen stupidity.

SmartyPants:
Well, the idea as he said then was to slow down the economy to combat inflation. At the time, I didn't think it was the right way to go (and still don't), because the causes of inflation are not totally related to the spending power of the masses. Farouk doesn't seem to have a great grasp of economics though he is right in pointing out that the masses are getting increasingly disaffected.
PoliticsRe: The 2019 Tinubu Speech We Ignored Is Biting Back - Farooq Kperogi by Blazetrailer: 6:37pm On May 11, 2024
....this shows Nigerians are still truly blind or daft. What Tinubu did are not reforms...they are blunders...not well thought out...he goofed with the devaluation completely. There are countries that dont recover from one stupid misdirection from their leader e.g. Zimbabwe,Lebanon, Colombia, Greece, Cyprus, etc...That singular act Tinubu did would take more than 20 years for Nigeria to recover. He has realised it himself...but its too late now.

Volksfuhrer:
Mr Kperogi Farook, it’s too early for all this. When you restructure an economy, it gets worse before it gets better. Mobility of resources isn’t instantaneous, it takes time: hence the externalities we are witnessing now. A little research on your part would have done you a lot of good even if you had never taken a course in economics! The Freudian slip you inferred was petty; you are a PhD, you should know better!

..its too late..he has already made the blunde...He has taken Nigeria 20 years back by devaluing the currency...its gone!!

[

quote author=Blaze14k post=129890316]

Bro tinubu should take off his ego and listen to those that have a better idea. Everybody want Nigeria to succeed but he can't do it in this manner. All these things going on is what people were complaining, shouting yet it looked as if we were stupid. Instead of solving the problem he is adding more to it. I don't know why he relies so much on CBN
PoliticsRe: Tinubu’s Reinstated Fuel Subsidy Will Drain Almost Half Of Oil Revenue—IMF Warns by Blazetrailer: 1:08am On May 11, 2024
...this post shows someone without any understanding. So as experienced and prepared as he said he was, he waited for small oyinbo new graduates from university at the world bank/IMF to tell him what to do?

The issue is not the subsidy....the biggest mistake he made was accepting to devalue the currency. Now he can't go back. Take that away and he would have been fine with the removal of subsidy.

Faiththatworks:
I think this imperialist and mad neocolonialist are the biggest problem of Asiwaju.
These Mad people told Asiwaju to remove Fuel Subsidy he obeyed, the country went into immeasurable hardship,if the President decides to allegedly reintroduce subsidy on a lower scale to stop the total decimation of the masses, why are these made neocolonialist complaining again.
I totally disbelieve this allegations of subsidy, and these are my reasons.
I say this with a reasonable level of factuality that as of Today,Dangote is selling a litre of Diesel for 850 naira, without any form of Subsidy.
I know people who are loading the product directly from the Refinery and he's selling at 850 naira.
For the sake of argument, let us agree he's selling at 900,I can say factually again if there's any level of Subsidy it should never be in the range of 5 billion Usd.
There's no way Nigeria should pay 5 billion Usd as subsidy this year unless The NNPCL wants to continue stealing all the oil revenue.
My advice to Asiwaju is to instruct the NNPCL to stop the payment of this dubious subsidy and funnel all the money on crude oil sales to the CBN,and instead of paying subsidies to European Refineries, the crude oil should be given to Dangote to Refine.
It doesn't make any sense,I repeat any sense for This country to extract crude oil and sell it overseas, then Use almost half of the proceeds to pay Subsidy.
It's the most foolish Economic principle I have seen in all my life, enough of this stupidity and merry go round stealing.
Asiwaju should man up and stop this Economic sabotage in the name of Subsidy.
God bless Nigeria.

...honestly, this thread alone, has shown to me how half educated a lot of Nigerians are about the economy. How could any one be celebrating Businesses having unfettered access to foreign exchange to pay for foreing obligations which includes dividends, interests and management fees...in an economy with nearly 40% inflation and 309% devalued local currency and in dire need of such forex to prevent recession?? That is capital flight, man!!! Even a blind man shoukd see this.

The problem with these supporters of Tinubu government is that they have very little to defend the failures of the overhyped man to the extent that latch on to any headline that appears to be positive without even understand the content and context..because they are in dire need of any thing positive to defend this failure with

There were so many things I never believed would happen in my lifetime , such as Buhari regime being better at managing the economy that the so called "brilliant first class accountant's administrstion"

This is a negative news. Most countries will prevent this as much as possible, to engender productivity in their economy

Olodo, I don't know where your " here" is. I asked you a straightforward question. Since you referenced Nigeria, how many people pay that as rent in Nigeria. Remember I said I was being modest. Perhaps you don't know what that means but that is ok.
Just tell me the percentage of Nigerians who pay 15 million naira annually as rent. Can you do that?
I will appreciate a straightforward answer.

Now you are going to an area far beyond your thinking capacity.

The difference? None of those countries had a power drunk leader who announced economic policies out of brazen stupidity. If they experienced, it was not self inflicted, it was out of congruence or otherwise, of economic forces working together. Have you seen the President of the US, the Prime Ministers of Britain, Canada, France or even India or South Africa to bring it closer home deciding monetary policies?? That is the exclusive preserve of the MPCs. When such happens, because it is usually not self inflicted damage, those economic forces work back to create an equilibrium to restore the situation in little time. To cap it up, the visionless Nigerian Govt. released an expansionary budget for 2024 to corrects its error, that it could not fund with changes to fiscal policies, relying of further borrowings, thereby increasing the pressure on inflation while the CBN of the same govt. is trying to fight inflation using redundant monetary polices...all futile efforts after the damage had been done....where is that done?? Contradictory economic policies using instruments that should be aligned towards same objectives..... that's what those other countries that suffered recession did not do and will not do.....especially when inflation is projected to be closer to 40% by early 2025 in Nigeria. You are in big shit in that country.
I know you cant understand how all of these work, it is too complex for your dense gray matter to comprehend. Oponu agbalagba!

ElSudani:
Tell me which country on this planet that never experienced a contracting economy?

...again, the limitation of your reasoning capacity. how many Nigerians collect N11,600/hour($8.00 X N1460), with security, good roads, access to great medical care and responsive emergency system, full public power, easy access to potable water, noiseless and sane environment, lawful society, reasonably just judicial system, etc.... go on social media and ask how many of the 200million people you mentioned were praying for Nigeria would want to swap their current situation in your Nigeria(zero power supply, insecurity, wanton kidnapping, brazen corruption, lawlessness, chaotic living, filthy and polluted environment) for that wage and lets see whether your country wont be half empty in a week. For your information, that amount you typed down there(N1,856,000) is more than what the VC of a Federal University collects on a monthly basis in that same dilapidated environment. if Profs were getting that much, they would never bother going on strike.
