Good morning guys,

Going through the discussions on this forum, it seems IT, accounting, medicine pathways are more frequently discussed.

Lawyers in the house (landed PRs and hopefuls), can we be forthcoming with more detailed info like, the nature of legal practice in certain provinces, how to combine courses with similar course outline for ease of examination ...? The list is inexhaustible honestly.

Is there any learned colleague that is writing Canadian Constitutional Law this year? I need people of interest on this issue of getting the required textbook by Peter Hogg, Constitutional Law of Canada, 2017 Student Edition (pdf version).

Alternatively, please i would like to be added to the group of FTL lawyers currently preparing for NCA exams, if any, so that i don't bore or derail this thread.

Happy Sunday everyone!

Hello.. please, how much would it cost me to process everything (visa, ticket and other money involved). Thanks.

How much it would cost you from start to finish would depend on one's personal circumstance. Kindly visit the below links, read up and fully digest the info there. You'd be better informed.

Cheers

Guys,

I'm currently looking at flying with BA because price is cheap. There would be a 9-hour layover @ Heathrow airport UK. I read somewhere that one needs a transit visa if passing through UK . As for me, i intend to stay put inside that airport for the 9hrs since the connecting flight is still in Heathrow.

Do you still think I need the transit visa?

Your PR gives you the right to enter and leave Canada at will, it's nobody's business if you want to do short landing.

You can't be penalized for that.

Thanks for your reply.

Happy new month guys!

I recently got COPR but not landed yet. I wish to do a short-landing in September i.e stay for 2months in Calgary before coming back to Nigeria to tidy up my affairs. I'm using the short stay to test the waters, write a couple of NCA exams for FTL ( foreign-trained lawyers),and most importantly, get my PR card before leaving.

However, i have some concerns, maybe unfounded, about the following;
1. Does an officer at POE have access to one's itinerary to know if i intend going back?
2. what if in the event that I'm asked if I'm going back to Nigeria, how do i tactically maneuver ?
3. Will the officer refuse to process my PR card seeing that i plan to do short-landing?
4. Can I go ahead in paying for return flight ticket, or should I purchase one-way flight ticket? Prices are relatively cheap at the moment, but gradually increasing. Paying a one-way ticket isn't quite economical.

Veterans in short-landing/landed seniors, biko help me out . Just a young dude trying to use one stone to kill 3 birds in the most economical way. First time experience.

Apologies if this issue has been thrashed previously.

Please my people, help me attempt the above questions. I need to make an informed decision and pay for my flight ticket as soon as possible.

Thanks

Guys see this:

https://www.canadavisa.com/news/ircc-will-require-biometrics-for-most-applicants-starting-july-31.html

I guess their reasons are valid but honestly, this would add more pressure to the designated centres and PR applicants. So far, there are only two biometric collection points ( Abuja and Lagos vfs) in Nigeria. How can they effectively contain people trooping en mass just for biometrics ? And to think this includes people applying for visitor visa, study or work permit shocked ( though for them it's once in 10 years ).

While it's clear that biometrics is needed as a PR applicant effective July 31, 2018, what is however not clear is if one's application is refused initially, and the person decides to re-apply. Does that mean biometrics will be re-conducted (for a PR applicant) ? The new law is silent on that question.

If the answer is Yes in the affirmative, that means "osetigo". Everybody should buckle up and be in the race against July 31 PR submission because Oyinbo talk say, na who dem use do lab rat, go remember to warn us for nairaland. Taink you.

Hi Everyone, we received a request yesterday to submit our passport for COPR. We have 15 days from yesterday to forward the passports to ACCRA and our medicals will expire April 5th and we are require to be in Canada before that date. We submitted our application on the 18th of April, 2017.

Our worry now is that we are not sure our passports will be processed within this very short period and besides we are honestly not prepared to leave within this short notice. Truth be told, we had given up because it was taking forever for them to conclude the process and we committed ourselves to a whole lot of other things. My spouse is very engage with work at the moment and by virtue of his position at work, he will have to give at least 6 months notice prior resignation.

We intend to request for extension of our medicals validity or perhaps go for another medicals but we are not sure if it is possible and how to go about it. Our thought when we applied was that the visa will be approved within six months and that will give my spouse enough time to notify his employer.

Experts in the house, your guidance on how to handle the situation will be most appreciated.

Raise a CSE and request that the validity of your medicals be extended and state the reason(s) for the request.

Hello guys I am drawing up a check list of the requirements for a single applicant as I am aware ITA will soon rain on me.
Please go thru my list and tell me if this is all I would need. Suggestions both constructive and destructive are very well welcome . grin
GlitteringStar and the rest of the gang I need your inputs.

Include payslips and bank statement (6 months) evidencing salary payments . Do well to highlight the payments in the statement

Reason: if you eventually land at LVO, it's likely you'd get ADR for those documents, if you didn't include them initially.

Cheers!

Please, any reason for this your assertion?

I thought he should be concerned with the account that has his POF.

Just to show extra proof of source of lodgements. Nothing major. You could do without it unless your VO is overzealous.

Number 2 is the safest and less complicated option IMO. Consolidate the funds in your savings account and print the statement. You can ask your sis for a print out of her own statement or get the transfer evidence used for the transaction. All these in addition to your bank reference letter if you can.

In addition, buy t-bills for 3/6months. You'll earn money while waiting on CIC.

P.S Hope you don't have numerous transfers between your savings and current accounts within the last 6 months ? If yes, best to declare both account statements. More-so, if the current account is your salary account.

Cheers!

Thank you for your input. I am not very confident if I could get a PhD opening in Canada easily with a Supervisor that will be willing to take a PR on. Aside that I am also weary of the cost implication (Even as PR the money fit no be rice and beans I guess when compared to 9ja own). But as you rightly said, the education system is terrible here as evident from the current NASU strike. I just feel it could have been a walk in the park doing it in a familiar terrain since it will be like a continuation from my MPhil. A friend also with MPhil, wrapped hers up in two years and is just waiting for the administrative works to complete 3years before getting her result. I just 'tired o' 9ja no try. Is not that I like book too much but what can one do when that dream job refuse to come if not to dey kill time with studies and books.

Bro, the earlier you adapt in Canada, the better for you. In Canada, foreign certificates don't matter much . Even after completion of PHD in Nigeria, you'll still hustle in Canada as a learner because there is no Canadian experience. You can always earn money while pursuing your PHD in Canada (where education better pass Naija sef), not to talk of school loans you can access as well. Tbh, this is a no-brainer for me.

Cheers

PLS MY GOOD PEOPLE AM HERE AGAIN OH!

Please I have an option to send my documents to either CVAC (which they specified is a preferred option in the mail) OR Embassy of Canada in Dubai.

I need your advice pls;

1) with me using Canadian Visa Application Center-CVAC i would have to pay service charge by raising bank draft in CAD dollars which my bank in Nigeria might not be processing. CVAC uses Aramex courier service.

2) I discovered Aramex courier service is in Lagos and so I could send the package to Embassy of Canada in Dubai with no extra fees attached.

Which of these offices will facilitate the smooth and fastest processing of my application? Cos i read that CVAC forwards the documents to the VO. So I was wondering the advantage of using CVAC over directly sending it to Embassy of Canada in Dubai seeing that the embassy noted that using CVAC is a preferred option in the PPR mail.

Go with option 1. Par-adventure your bank can't issue bank draft in CAD dollars, let them issue in US dollars then .

To put your mind at ease, you may seek further clarification on the issue of inability in raising bank draft in CAD dollars either by tweeting at them, writing them a mail asking if US dollars can be used in the alternative OR asking Aramex courier service ( Lagos, Nigeria) how people usually do it.

Congrats!

My dear lady was telling then as if it was my right. The amount was not easily payable then and now too. If i have that amount now my POF would almost be ready for whole family. I would just declare it and explain as much as possible when filling my application and trust God for favour and success.

An excerpt from one of your posts ... " my visa was revoked cos I used B1/B2 visa for child birth and made use of some insurance during child birth" .

Two issues I've identified. (1) Use of B1/B2 visa for childbirth (2) insurance debt

For No. 1, well, it might not be much of an issue ( could be an emergency delivery for all i care smiley) if No.2 is dealt with.

It is contradictory to be indebted and claim you have the required POF. It would be better to pay up your debt because POF is such a crucial requirement in this process . CIC also requires that you state any outstanding debt.

Where you explicitly state what you owe US gov't in insurance in your application without redeeming such, it counters your POF and when slashed against POF (assuming reviewing officer is lenient enough to do so) , you're short of POF requirement. On the other hand, being coy about the debt, may land you into misrepresentation because they'd definitely know.

To be honest, take your time and pay the debt no matter how painstaking it might be . Failure of which, might raise the issue of insolvency (and credibility, if I may add) of PA.

Cheers!

Something weird is happening on CIC Accounts. If you already have AOR and MEP do check your CIC Application account and share your observation. Seems they are moving people en mass to IP2.

Yes, files at LVO just started moving. Mostly July, August, Sept., October AOR files stuck at NA2.

Ha bros calm down now! You are even pre ITA and you are asking for medicals? calm down now, step by step biko. You can do medicals now but it will be counterproductive, as you would have done it earlier for nothing. It is required after AOR (after you have been given ITA and have officially applied for PR).

Just to correct, medicals is required at the point of submission after ITA . Not after AOR. You're given AOR after submission of the required documents, your medical report inclusive.

If one submits a certificate of fixed deposit as a POF, is one required to still submit a reference letter from the bank and/or an SOA?

You're not required to but most people prefer to add their reference letter and/or SOA to show flow of money transaction. it all depends on your risk level . Choose what makes you comfortable. Over documentation is not bad but let it be tidy smiley

Did mine at vgc branch, Lagos. My bro did his in another state, entirely different. A surer way though, is by asking your account officer to process it ( assuming you have a good rapport with him/her). If you don't, just look for any person with good rapport with his/her account officer to speak on your behalf .

Hello sweethearts,

Please I have 2 questions:

1) I didn’t realise I needed a US PCC cos I’ve never lived there only visited (but cumulatively over 6 months). I’ve submitted my application and they’ve asked me to fill an additional travel history form, they didn’t ask for the PCC but I’m working on it and it should be ready by tomorrow (Amen). Question is can I merge it into my travel history document as there’s only travel history placeholder open on my app atm?

2) my deadline to submit travel history is 16/02/2018. No time. Does this mean I have till the end of the 16th, UTC time?

Thank you very much for your responses in advance.

Answer.
1)I'd suggest you submit your PCC (as it'll be ready tomorrow being feb. 14) alongside the additional travel history form. Don't forget to include a detailed LOE as the cover page. In the event PCC gets delayed before deadline, submit the additional travel history form with LOE stating the omission to include PCC in your application and steps you've taken in getting one ( you have to include receipts/stuff as evidence of steps taken)

2) I don't like to bother myself with such nuances. I'll simply submit on the 15th . whether PCC is available or not ( revert to answer 1). You don't even know if there might be a system glitch that period you want to beat deadline. Biko avoid stories that touch.

Good morning everyone,

Please if my POF is 4.5M and I got a deposit of 500k about 4 months before submitting my application, do I need to do LOE for it or that is not considered a bulk deposit?

For me, fire down. You're good to go without LOE . However, if it'll make you sleep well at night, then attach LOE.

Top of the morning to you guys.

As I await my excellent IELTS results, am thinking of post ITA related matters already. Hence, I need the below clarification.

Regarding Gift Deed, for instance, if I my sister is gifting me some funds, do I have to submit her bank statement or just the receipt of the transfer of the funds she's giving me? Then, do I have to show that we are siblings (by submitting her Birth Certificate) cos she uses her married name now as against the surname we share?

Also, does IRCC investigate the capacity of the person gifting the funds to confirm if that person has the capacity to do so or not?

Lastly, can anyone other than my family execute a gift deed in my favour. Let's say, colleagues, friends, boss, etc?

Thanks

Anybody can gift you . All you need to submit is the gift deed and receipt of transfer of the funds. Nothing more . There's nothing like investigation of the person's capacity or his/her relationship to you
