Billy Vigar dead: Ex-Arsenal star dies aged 21 after suffering brain injury during Chichester match

Former Arsenal academy player Billy Vigar has died aged 21 following an incident at a non-League match.

Vigar, who was playing for Chichester City Football Club, suffered a significant brain injury during last weekend's game at Wingate and Finchley FC.

He was taken to hospital and placed into an induced coma before he had surgery on Tuesday.

But his club, who play in the Isthmian League Premier Division, announced Vigar died this morning.

A statement on social media read: "It is with great sadness that Chichester City Football Club has to confirm the passing of Billy Vigar.

"We request that his family's privacy is respected at this most difficult time. Rest in peace Billy. Forever in the hearts of all at Chichester City Football Club."

The club have postponed Saturday's scheduled match against Lewes.

Vigar's family, in a statement posted by the club, said: "After sustaining a significant brain injury last Saturday, Billy Vigar was put in an induced coma.

"On Tuesday, he needed an operation to aid any chances of recovery. Although this helped, the injury proved too much for him and he passed away on Thursday (25th) morning.

"The responses to the original update show how much Billy was thought of and loved within the sport. His family are devastated that this has happened whilst he was playing the sport that he loved."

Vigar joined the Gunners' academy on schoolboy terms aged 14 before earning a full-time scholarship for the 2020/21 season.

The striker, who also had a loan spell with Derby Under-21s and Eastbourne Borough, left the Premier League side in 2024 after playing once in the EFL Trophy.

He then signed for Hastings before a move to Chichester last month.

Arsenal said in a statement: "Everyone at Arsenal is devastated by the shocking news that former academy graduate Billy Vigar has passed away.

"All our thoughts are with his family and loved ones at this time. Rest in peace, Billy."

A Kenyan man simply identified as Muima, has revealed his plans to marry Thereza, 85.

In a new video by Afrimax English on YouTube, the couple shared their love story and decision to get married.

According to Tuko website, the couple first met while Muima and some of his friends were searching for a house to rent. They ended up renting her house and she would often call Muima, "My husband".

Speaking about his love life, Muima said, "This is my choice. This is my happiness, as anyone else has theirs. Before pleasing others, first, please yourself and decide not based on anyone else's opinions.

"The way she behaved and treated (me) pushed me to love her and though she is an old woman and in reality, she could be my grandmother but I love her."

Thereza says that after introducing Muima to her family, they expressed mixed reactions and only asked him to pay a dowry of 12 cows which he is willing to pay and hopefully do their white wedding.

Some of her children however feel it is quite unconventional and an embarrassment to their family.

The 85-year-old with eight children and 20 grandkids, says she is excited to get married to her lover and can’t wait to don her white gown.

“I have eight children and 20 grandchildren. According to my boyfriend’s age, he could be my fifth grandchild. He loves me and I love him. I am ready to put on the wedding dress and ring, ” she said.

Muima hopes Thereza will live long as he vows not to marry a younger woman saying they are demanding.

He recalled a day when the lady brought him food that she served with so much care before asking for a kiss which he willingly offered.

“The way she behaved and treated (me) pushed me to love her and though she is an old woman and in reality, she could be my grandmother but I love her,” Muima said.

“I’ll never choose any girl over this one. I pray she won’t die before me, “he added.
