30-year-old woman in Ikot Usekong, Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is now in Police for allegedly conniving with three others to murder her 19-year-old stepson.

The Minister of #Aviation, Hadi Sirika has announced that a military aircraft King Air 350 has crashed on the runway in Abuja.

He disclosed this in a tweet on Sunday, saying the accident appears fatal.

The Government of Akwa Ibom State in its bid to promote food sufficiency, has distributed over 2,000 Goats to livestock farmers in the State.

The distribution which was done at the open field of the Ministry of Agriculture on Thursday, February 18, 2021, had key agricultural stakeholders in the State in attendance.

According to the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Glory Edet, the distribution was in fulfilment of Governor Udom Emmanuel's avowed promise to ensure the sufficiency of food and consumables cultivated and reared in the State.

Dr. Glory who lauded the State Chief Executive's ingenuity and commitment to fulfilling his promise, described Governor Emmanuel's disposition towards agriculture as positive and worthy of emulation.

"Our Governor's passion for agriculture stems from his consciousness that it is only through agriculture that poverty and unemployment can be reduced", she said. She added that "it is only in Akwa Ibom State that farmers are given inputs, seedlings and livestock free of charge".

She noted that the African Dwarf Goats presented to the farmers are the best in terms of taste and quality, but lamented that they were almost going into extinction at the local goods markets.

This she said, was the reason the Ministry embarked on a fact-finding mission to know what could be done to up the supply of locally bred goats in the market.

The farmers responded that "if the government can help them acquire the young goats for reproduction, they would be able to supply more to the market." "This is the reason we are giving out 1 buck (male) and 2 Does (female) to the goat farmers today to enhance reproduction and multiplication", Dr Edet explained.

The Commissioner further explained that the presentation done was a symbolic representation of what would be done by the Ministry subsequently.

"We have selected local governments across the three senatorial districts for this first distribution. The few local governments remaining will be captured in the second phase which will be done few weeks from now", she notified.

While calling on Poultry farmers in the state to be on the alert for their soon-to-come empowerment, the Commissioner strictly warned against the sales or diversion of the goats given for personal use.

" We have gone round to ensure that the recipients of the goats are real farmers. This is to ensure that the project reaches the intended target. Our team will also go round routinely to ensure that the necessary guidelines on breeding are followed strictly", she said.

Earlier in her remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Mary U. Bassey, eulogized the State Governor for assenting to the materialization of the Goat Farmers Empowerment Programme.

While applauding the Commissioner's sincerity to the course of empowering farmers in the State, she stated that the empowerment of goat farmers was intended at multiplying local breed of goats, reducing capital flights in goat trading and creating employment opportunities for youths and women in the State.

She also advised the goat farmers to utilize the opportunity given them properly and by so doing, promote the course of agriculture in the State.

During the Talk on Goat Farming, the Assistant Director in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Mr, Ema Ebeute taught the farmers on principles of Crossbreeding, setting up the Goat House and Feed/Feeding. He adviced the farmers never to buy Goats meant to be bred at the market but from fellow Goat breeders. This he said, is to avoid casualties, unknown diseases and mortality.

In his goodwill message, the Country Technical Lead for Solidaridad, and International organization, Dr. Sam Ogala extolled the virtues of the Akwa Government.

"For us as an international organization, what we want to see is a transformation in the lives of the rural people and seeing this happening here today shows us this government is very responsible. We will continue as an organization to partner the state government especially the Ministry of Agriculture to see how the sector can be transformed for the good of Akwa Ibom people", he pledged.

Highpoint of event was the presentation of the goats to the excited livestock farmers as well as the donation of cash to startup the rearing business by the Commissioner for Agriculture.

Among the recipients of the goats were farmers from Ibom Selected Youths for Food Sufficiency, Nka Uto Inwang, National Sheep/Goat Development Association of Nigeria, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, National Women in Agriculture, among others.

Goodbye Kimye: Kim Kardashian files to divorce Kanye West ( VIDEO)


Reality star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian on Friday filed for divorce from her rapper husband Kanye West after almost seven years of marriage and months of rumors that their relationship had broken down.

Representatives for Los Angeles Superior Court and for Kardashian, 40, said she had filed the divorce papers.

Celebrity website #TMZ cited unidentified sources as saying the split was amicable and that Kardashian had asked for joint custody of the couple’s four children. The grounds for the divorce were not immediately known.

Representatives for West did not immediately return a request for comment.

The filing follows months of leaks and reports that the marriage between the two celebrities was on the rocks.

Kardashian, who made her name in the reality TV series “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” married West, 43, in May 2014, making them one of the most talked about celebrity couples in Hollywood and popularly known as “Kimye”.

Kardashian has some 206 million Instagram followers, while West has 30 million followers on his @ye Twitter account.

The couple’s already unconventional relationship became strained last year when West, who suffers from bipolar disorder, ran an unsuccessful campaign marked by erratic statements to be elected U.S. president under his self-styled Birthday Party.

Kardashian in July released a statement urging compassion for West’s mental heath struggles after he swiftly deleted a tweet in which he said he had been trying to divorce her for months.

The couple appeared to grow further apart with the 21-time Grammy winner spending most of his time at his ranch in Wyoming and Kardashian remaining in their Calabasas mansion outside Los Angeles

Both Kardashian and West are reported to be billionaires. West made his money through his music as well as his Yeezy fashion and sneaker line.

TMZ reported that the couple had a prenuptial agreement and that discussions on a property settlement were well advanced.

The divorce papers were filed a month before the March 18 premiere of the final season of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” which is expected to chronicle the recent rift in the couple’s relationship.

Streaming service Hulu said in December that it had signed a deal with Kim, Khloe and Kourtney #Kardashian, their mother Kris Jenner and half sisters #Kylie and #Kendall Jenner, in which they will create new content for a venture that is expected to debut late this year.

The Honourable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio on Friday attended the funeral of the late cultural music icon, Chief (Dr) #UkoAkpan at Afaha Obong, Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. The legendary musician died at 93.

According to #Senator Akpabio in his message to the family, "The loss of a legend like the late #ChiefUkoAkpan could be agonizing but take solace in the fact that till death your father was a foremost cultural music icon who dedicated his life to putting smiles on the faces of humanity through his genre of music.

"It is also to his credit that he expanded the frontiers of cultural music beyond the shores of Nigeria. Notably, the late culture icon had put up an outstanding performance in the National Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC) in 1977. It was in recognition of his talent that although he had no formal education, the University of Uyo awarded him the highest academic honour with the award of Doctor of Music (Honoris Causa.)

The legacies he has left behind are mementoes that will remain evergreen in the memories of those who knew him or listened to his music. The late Chief Uko Akpan will be sorely missed but he will continue to live in our hearts through his evergreen music.

"We know that this is a difficult time for the entire Uko Akpan family, and the people that he mentored and inspired but remember that death is only the end of the physical life and the beginning of eternal glory."

Senator Akpabio prayed God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss."
