The Management, players, and the entire staff of Akwa United Football Club deeply sympathize with Wikki Tourists Football Club over the fire incident which engulfed their team bus on Thursday 18 February on their way to Uyo for NPFL Matchday 11 game against Dakkada FC.

Tragic as the case maybe, we in Akwa United feel so relieved that no life was lost. No amount of money, valuables or possession can compare to the loss of a human life; hence our thanks to the Almighty God for this.

This incident once more raises the need to put a machinery in place to guarantee the comfort and safety of football teams as they Criss cross this country to meet up their match schedules, week in, week out.

Referee #DarrenDrysdale locked heads with Ipswich midfielder Alan Judge in an extraordinary exchange during their goalless League One draw with #Northampton.

The official moved his head towards the Irishman in the final moments of the match and then briefly appeared to square up to the 32-year-old, before being ushered away by Northampton's Lloyd Jones.

Judge, who had protested after being penalised for simulation, was then shown a yellow card, the fifth booking of the match.

In the third minute of stoppage time, Town's Flynn Downes was sent off for violent conduct in an ugly end to the match.

Lowly Northampton defied the odds to secure a draw, but will be frustrated they only came away with one point instead of all three.

James Norwood, who came on as a 71st-minute replacement for Ipswich, forced Northampton keeper Jonathan Mitchell into his first save of the game and to heap further misery on a woeful Ipswich, Flynn Downes was sent off in stoppage time after getting a second yellow card.

Former Nigerian finance minister and current World Trade Organization soon to be Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala join CNN in a conversation to discuss women’s empowerment.

"For every gendered situation, it's so much [more] so for women of color," says Nigeria's Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, who’s set to become the next head of the WTO.

"Things have improved, both within my continent and also worldwide. But the issue is that the pace of change is too slow."

She goes further to explain the inequality issues women face adding that, “we need to talk to men in order to change things. It’s not good enough to just talk to ourselves as women. So the book is also for men because men can take action to improve things.”

Meanwhile, Three months after the Trump administration rejected her, former Nigerian finance minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is set to receive unanimous backing on Monday to become the first woman and first African director-general of the World Trade Organization.

A self-declared “doer” with a track record of taking on seemingly intractable problems, Okonjo-Iweala will have her work cut out for her at the trade body, even with Donald Trump, who had threatened to pull the United States out of the organisation, no longer in the White House.

As director-general, a position that wields limited formal power, Okonjo-Iweala, 66, will need to broker international trade talks in the face of persistent U.S.-China conflict; respond to pressure to reform trade rules; and counter protectionism heightened by the COVID-19 pandemic.

A 25-year veteran of the World Bank, where she oversaw an $81 billion portfolio, Okonjo-Iweala ran against seven other candidates by espousing a belief in trade’s ability to lift people out of poverty.

She studied development economics at Harvard after experiencing civil war in Nigeria as a teenager. She returned to the country in 2003 to serve as finance minister and backers point to her hard-nose negotiating skills that helped seal a deal to cancel billions of dollars of Nigerian debt with the Paris Club of creditor nations in 2005.

“She brings stature, she brings experience, a network and a temperament of trying to get things done, which is quite a welcome lot in my view,” former WTO chief Pascal Lamy told Reuters. “I think she’s a good choice.”

Key to her success will be her ability to operate in the centre of a “U.S.-EU-China triangle”, he said.

The endorsement of the Biden administration cleared the last obstacle to her appointment.

Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns were full of emotion while embracing in the middle of the Octagon on Saturday night. Burns had blood and tears running down his face. Some of their cornermen behind them were trying not to cry.

Usman stopped Burns, his former teammate, via TKO at 34 seconds in the third round to defend his UFC welterweight title in the main event of UFC 258 in Las Vegas.

Usman landed a right hand as he was switching stances to floor Burns, then slammed Burns with punches on the ground until referee Herb Dean pulled him off.

"Gilbert is a guy that I've known from the start," Usman said in his postfight interview. "I love him. This one was tough for me to deal with."

Usman picked up his 13th straight win, surpassing legend Georges St-Pierre for the most consecutive wins in UFC welterweight history. Only Anderson Silva has won more than 13 straight fights in UFC history, winning 16 in a row from 2006 to 2012. Usman is tied with six other fighters with 13 consecutive wins.

Usman and Burns were teammates in South Florida since 2012, first with the Blackzilians and most recently with Sanford MMA. Usman departed for Colorado to train under coach Trevor Wittman last year after the initial fight with Burns was scheduled for July. But Burns tested positive for COVID-19 and withdrew from that bout. Henri Hooft, the longtime head coach for both Usman and Burns, did not corner either man and said he would not even watch the fight.

Usman said he "almost started bawling" when the two fighters embraced in the Octagon after the fight.

"I know what that loss feels like," he said. "I have a loss on my record. I'm not perfect. I know what that felt like. I knew how bad he wanted this. ... Having to be the one to do that to him, it almost broke me in there."

The bout had major implications outside of the personal story. Coming in, ESPN had Usman ranked No. 5 in the world in its pound-for-pound MMA rankings. In the welterweight division, ESPN has Usman ranked No. 1 and Burns at No. 5.

Burns rocked Usman twice early with huge right hands. But Usman hung in through a tumultuous first round. He then took over in the second, working a beautiful jab and stymieing Burns' power and explosiveness. Usman's striking looked better than ever, as he switched stances and landed with power from each one.

In the second round, Usman dropped Burns twice, the second time with a jab. In the third, it was a right hand that resembled a jab that put Burns on his butt before Usman pounced and finished on the ground.

Usman outlanded Burns 83-45 in significant strikes, per UFC Stats.

"I am the best on the planet for a reason," Usman said in his postfight interview. "Y'all, everybody else, you better put some f---ing respect on my name. ... I'm here to stay."

Burns said he made a "mistake" trying to finish Usman in the opening round.

"I know I can end any one of these guys. But in order to become a champion, I have to be disciplined," Burns said. "I saw he was hurt. I kind of started loading up so much [on my punches]. The key for me was to keep doing what I was doing. Stay light on my feet. ... Me, I was overexcited. He stayed disciplined. That's what happened."

UFC 258 was held with COVID-19 protocols in place at the UFC Apex, a facility across from the UFC's Las Vegas corporate campus. It was the promotion's first domestic pay-per-view card of the year.

Usman (18-1) has been champion since beating Tyron Woodley at UFC 235 in March 2019. He has had three successful title defenses. The Nigeria native, who grew up in Texas, has never lost in the UFC.

"He's the whole package," UFC president Dana White said. "The guy's got the whole thing. It's just, when are people gonna notice?"

White added: "The kid is the real deal, man. For the people that know, for the people that actually know about fighting, they know this win tonight was a big deal."

Usman, 33, was coming off a unanimous-decision win over Jorge Masvidal at UFC 251 last July. Afterward, Usman called out Masvidal, who took that fight on six days' notice. Usman said that "it's not done" with Masvidal.

"He keeps running his mouth," Usman said. "If he's gonna talk, step in here and see me."

White said Usman has "a lot of options," but if Usman and Masvidal want to fight -- and if the fans are interested -- White said the promotion would consider it.

"If you look at all the guys that are lined up that he has to fight next, and he keeps doing what he's doing, we're gonna all pop our heads up one day and we're gonna start talking GOAT," White said. "It's not just how you're fighting and if you're winning, it's who you're fighting, too."

Masvidal's co-manager Malki Kawa wrote Saturday night on Twitter that Masvidal wants to coach opposite Usman on the next season of "The Ultimate Fighter."

VIDEO: GOVERNORS STILL SIDELINED IN THE AFFAIRS OF NDDC SAYS GOVERNOR WIKE

Rivers State governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, says despite the inauguration of the advisory council of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), oil producing state governors are still sidelined in the affairs of the intervention agency.

The governor noted that because the governing party dictates what happens in the NDDC, the commission now acts like a state on its own and refusing to interface with the Governors of the oil producing States to strategically develop the Niger Delta region.

He stated this when members of the House of Representatives Committee on NDDC led by its chairman, Hon (Dr.) Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Port Harcourt on Thursday.

Governor Wike explained that contrary to assumption that governors of the Niger Delta are critical stakeholders in the affairs of the NDDC, they are not in the true sense of it.

According to him, since the inauguration of the NDDC advisory council last year, the present federal government has ensured that the governors are sidelined in the affairs of the commission.

“Even when we are inaugurated, we were not involved in anything that happens in NDDC. Which is most unfortunate.”

He further continued: "NDDC is like a state on its own without working with the State government and why is it so. It is so because the states of NDDC are controlled by the opposition party therefore there is no need to consult with them."

The governor explained that in a bid to ensure NDDC does not embark on indiscriminate execution of projects that often distort the state developmental agenda, the Rivers State government recently obtained a court order that prohibits the commission from carrying out projects without the consent of the state government.

Governor Wike urged the National Assembly to be resolute in its oversight function by ensuring that the NDDC stops frittering the resources meant for the development of the Niger Delta region on building roads in Army barracks, police stations and spending Billions of Naira to ensure he did not win election.

The governor stated that NDDC and the Rivers State had once agreed to collaborate on a legacy project, but the commission ended up defrauding the State government

"NDDC fraudulently duped us over the Mother and Child hospital. They duped us. They had an agreement with the State government to build a regional hospital called Mother and Child hospital. They agreed that it will be N1.7 Billion Naira. State government to bring N800million, they will bring N900 million. State government at that time paid their N800million. NDDC mobilised the contractor with N400 million of the N800 million we brought and then abandoned the contractor and the contractor left site. And when we came on board, we said okay, we don't want to partner with you again, give us back our N400 million , it became a problem. Politics came in. "

The governor said he will continually speak out for the interest of the people of Rivers state. According to him, within one year, he has awarded contracts for construction of eight flyovers and on Wednesday approved over N16 billion for the development of critical infrastructure in the Rivers state University.

"I want the best for my people. They have given me everything in life, so I owe them. It is not what I will make, they have already made me. So what do I offer back.”

He urged the National Assembly to ensure that planned amendment of the Electoral Act will usher in a new era of free and fair elections. He insisted that, “there cannot be development without good governance. There cannot be good governance without the rule of law. Good governance without the rule of cannot work.”

Leaders of the delegation and chairman of the committee, Dr. Tunji- Ojo explained that the purpose of the visit is predicated on the fact that Governor Wike is a principal stakeholder in the affairs of NDDC.

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, has challenged players of Rivers United Football Club to make the state proud by doing everything possible in winning the cup of the forthcoming Confederation of African Football (CAF) tournament.

The Governor said if they achieve that feat, their life will change and the state will celebrate them.

Governor Wike made the promise when he presented Yutong buses, ambulances and other vehicles to the Rivers United and the Rivers Angels Football Clubs at Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday.

He said, as players, they have the opportunity to write their names in gold while promoting the image of the state, and they should not compromise it.

"I believe that when you have an opportunity, you shouldn't miss it. This is the time, not only to win laurels for the state, but also to print your name in gold. Let it be known that you're part of the team that brought laurels and trophies to this State.

"Let me assure you that the State Government will not relent to give you all the necessary support that you require to make you bring trophies at the end of this season.

"I hear you have CAF Match ahead of you. Let me say to Rivers United FC, if you win the CAF Cup, your life will change. I will not say now what I will give to you. Just win the trophy first.

"The same applies to Rivers Angels. Win the trophies, be the first to go and play tournament in Africa, then your life will also change."

The governor also motivated the teams with financial rewards should they secure any away win.

He told them to always show that they are truly Rivers wherever they go for any competition, and be determined to emerge as the best at all times.

"As a motivating factor, if you go and win Enyimba, and come back, we will give you N20 million. Henceforth, for the Rivers United, any match you win away, you'll have a bonus of N10 million. The same amount applies to Rivers Angels.

"Continue to show other teams that you're really Rivers. You don't need to take second. You need to take first all the times."

Governor Wike acknowledged the efforts of the sporting teams under the leadership of the State Commissioner of Sports, for using sports as catalyst for development.

"I believe that this is the right time our people are using sports as catalyst for development. You have provided the state of the art luxury bus for the Rivers United FC. The coaster for the girls is not allowed. Give them luxury bus too. I will not allow that discrimination.

"The two teams, as you're leaving, they will go with two ambulances. To the technical crews, you're also important because you help the teams to succeed. Whatever benefits they get will be extended to you.

Governor Wike further announced donation of a coaster bus to the Supporters Club for always providing moral boost for the teams.

In his address, the Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Boma Iyaye said they are grateful to Governor Wike for providing the clubs with brand new luxury buses and other vehicles.

Giving his remarks, the National President of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN), Honour Sirawo noted that Governor Wike has rehabilitated the training pitch at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium which is in use now, and has also not relented with other levels of supports to sports related activities.

Also speaking, the Chief Coach of Rivers United Football Club, Port Harcourt, Stanley Eguma said Governor Wike made it possible for them to be exposed professionally when they were taken to Madrid in Spain plus other incentives that they have continued to enjoy.

On her part, the General Manager of Rivers Angels Football Clubs, Port Harcourt, Matilda Otuene said Governor Wike is not only gender friendly but a real father who has improved welfare conditions for them. She said the club has been enabled to retain a foreign based player.

In his speech, the Captain of Rivers United Football Club, Port Harcourt, Austin Festus promised that the club is poised to win more trophies for the state, which will also serve to reciprocate the supports that they have enjoyed from Governor Wike.

The #ClubWorldCup bronze-medal clash against Al Ahly SC went to penalties after extra-time finished 0-0 on Thursday.

Three Palmeiras' players missed from 12 yards - but Rony's was far and away the worst of the lot.

He tried to combine techniques used by the likes of #Neymar, Bruno #Fernandes and Paul Pogba.

But the 25-year-old failed miserably before his team eventually lost the shoot-out and missed out on third place at the tournament.

Rony looked full of confidence as he waited a long time before starting his run-up from outside of the box.

He sprinted towards the ball then slowed the right down in a bid to trick the keeper.

Pogba famously used this technique when he scored from the spot against Leicester in 2018.

After eight seconds, his stuttered run-up was complete and he pulled the trigger.

He channelled his inner Fernandes as he jumped just before he struck the ball.

But Al Ahly #goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawi easily saved the shocking strike.

After the match, a clip of Rony's overly ambitious penalty went viral on #Twitter.

One fan said: "Rony for #Palmeiras has just taken one of the worst penalties I've seen in a long time. Looked like he was drunk."

Another added: "Palmeiras can you teach your players how to kick a penalty? What is this?"

We Had S3x For Over Two Hours – Homosexual Mobbed By Vigilantes With Partner In Delta

Two alleged homosexuals in a yet-to-be-ascertained area of Delta State have said they had sexual intercourse for more than two hours while pleading with some vigilantes who sprang on them.

The two men in a viral video, which surfaced on Wednesday, were believed to have been caught by the vigilantes, as they appeared half-naked in the clip recorded at night and looked rough, suggesting they had received some form of beating.

While being questioned and harassed by the angry vigilantes, the two men struggled to find their voices and convince the vigilantes to let them go.

They spoke in Pidgin English.

One of them, who identified himself as Ogheneruno, said, “I bleeped him three times. He asked me to use a condom also. I warned him that I was not doing but he controlled me that I must come to his place.

“We had sex in the sitting room. I had sex with him for more than two hours. It was a business we had together. He was to pay me N3, 000 and he lured me to come and collect the money in his house.”

The other alleged homosexual was quieter in most of the video.

“He said I would go to Europe and enjoy a better life. He said we would run to Morocco and from Morocco enter Europe,” Ogheneruno continued.

It was not clear whether the vigilantes let them go or handed them over to the police.

On February 9, United States President Joe Biden had issued a presidential memorandum aimed at expanding protection of the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer, and intersex people worldwide, including potentially through the use of financial sanctions.

Despite international pressure, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan signed the Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act in January 2014, prescribing between 10 and 14 years in prison for cohabitation between same-sex sexual partners, public show of same-sex relationship, registration, operation, or participation in gay clubs, societies, and organisation, amongst others.

However, the Biden Presidency has threatened “swift and meaningful” responses, including financial sanctions against countries found guilty of human rights abuses of LGBTQI+ persons.

This is not the first time homosexuals were caught and mobbed in parts of Nigeria, going by the public resentment against such folks.
On April 21, 2020, two homosexuals were caught red-handed and paraded in Umueze, Orlu in Imo State, by residents.

The two gays also recorded in a video were caught in a popular college in the state and two condoms were recovered from them.

Also in May 2020, two homosexuals were caught in Enugu State, with one of them confessing to belong to the music group of a church.

The governor of #KogiState, Yahaya Bello, has announced that a controversial politician and former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

On Wednesday the Nation published the video of the governor addressing a crowd, saying Mr Fani-Kayode, who is a foundation member of APC, has rejoined the party.

Mr Fani-Kayode was the director of publicity in 2015 Peoples Democratic Party, #PDP, campaign council.

He is one of the most consistent and acerbic critic of the ruling party.

On Monday, Mr Fani-Kayode’s pictures with the governor of Kogi State, #YahayaBello and subsequently with the governor of Yobe State and chairman of the APC caretaker committee, Mai Mala Buni, sparked speculations that the controversial politician was planning to defect to the APC.

Although Mr Fani-Kayode said the visit to the two key politicians was to build bridges for the stability of the country, sources said the visit was to prepare ground for his imminent defection.

Video: Akwa United Thump Katsina United in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State

#AkwaUnited put up a superlative performance to record an emphatic 3-0 victory over Katsina United on match-day nine of the 2020/2021 #NigeriaProfessionalFootballLeague at the #GodswillAkpabioInternationalStadium - #NestofChampions - #Uyo on Sunday.

Top striker Ndifreke Effiong opened the floodgate of goals in the 29th minute. Strike partner Charles Atshimene doubled Akwa United's advantage in the 61st minute before Ndifreke added his second of the game and his team's third from the penalty spot in the 76th minute as coach Boboye's men strolled to a comfortable win in a match that was broadcast live on #NPFL. TV.

The #PromiseKeepers went into the game on the back of two straight victories over #KanoPillars and #AdamawaUnited and needed a win to move into the top five on the log.

Coach Kennedy Boboye made three changes to the starting line up that defeated Adamawa United in Gombe in mid-week. He handed left-back David Philip and striker Charles Atshimene their first starts of the season while Amadi Samuel was recalled into the first 11 after all three players made impressive substitute appearances against Adamawa United on match-day 8.

Akwa United announced their intentions inside the opening three minutes. Morice Chukwu fed Mfon Udoh with a long pass, the striker got his shot on target but goalkeeper Yusuf Mohammad punched it out for a corner kick. David Philip delivered a delightful cross into the box and Sampson Gbadebo rose highest but headed it over the bar.

The first real chance of the game went the way of Charles Atshimene in the eighth minute. Defender Olisa Ndah launched a long ball into Katsina United's; Ndifreke Effiong brought it under control and laid it for Charles Atshimene. The striker created a space for himself and released a fierce shot but it narrowly missed the target.

Five minutes later, Samuel Amadi was fouled outside the box, Morice Chukwu delivered a superb cross inside the box, Charles Atshimene couldn't direct his effort at goal although the offside flag was up against him.

Akwa United continued to mount pressure on their visitors and in the 15th minute, Mfon Udoh's goal-bound shot was blocked and cleared by Adekunle Adeniyi.

In the 23rd minute, midfielder Seth Mayi lifted a clever ball over Katsina United's defenders, Ndifreke Effiong recieved it but his shot came off Yusuf Mohammad. Mfon Udoh thought he had scored the opener when he headed in the rebound but the offside flag was up.

The Promise Keepers took the lead in the 29th minute through striker Ndifreke Effiong. David Philip whipped in a dangerous ball inside the box, Ndifreke Effiong recieved it and calmly beat goalkeeper Yusuf Mohammad to score his team's first of the game.

In the 39th minute, Samuel Amadi made a good run forward and got into the box but his low strike was saved by Yusuf Mohammad.

Deep into first half's stoppage time, Amadi Samuel tried a long range shot that was flying towards the top corner but Yusuf Mohammad pulled up a fantastic save to keep the scoreline at 1-0 into half time.

Coach Boboye's men continued their dominance in the second stanza but couldn't add to their advantage in the opening few minutes. In the 51st minute, Ndifreke Effiong latched on to Charles Atshimene's low cross but Yusuf Mohammad punched it out for a corner kick.

After a nice link up play from the back, Samuel Amadi released Charles Atshimene on the right flank but the striker dragged his shot wide off the far post from a promising position.

Charles Atshimene finally got his name on the scoresheet in the 61st minute to increase his team's advantage. The striker composed himself inside the box to send a powerful drive beyond Yusuf Mohammad after a beautiful work by #NdifrekeEffiong.

With the Promise Keepers in firm control, Coach Boboye introduced Dare Ojo and also handed a debut to youngster Godswill Nicholas, both players replaced Mfon Udoh and Amadi Samuel in the 68th minute.

Akwa United's goalkeeper Adewale Adeyinka was called into action in the 70th minute following a rare counter attack by Katsina United. The goalkeeper stood his ground to bring down Boubacar Massaly's strike before gathering it at a second attempt.

In an attempt to score more, the Promise Keepers poured forward and forced their visitors back into their own half of the pitch. In the 74th minute, Ndifreke Effiong interchanged nicely with Seth Mayi and fed Charles Atshimene but the striker couldn't direct his effort at goal as his attempt went inches wide.

Ndifreke Effiong then had two wonderful attempts at goal within the space of three minutes but both efforts were unsuccessful as Yusuf Mohammad was at his best to save both attempts.

Fourteen minutes from time, the Promise Keepers put the game beyond Katsina United when Ndifreke Effiong was fouled in the box and the referee rightly awarded a penalty. Ndifreke Effiong took up the task and scored

Governor Nyesom Wike: Nigerians will vote out APC in 2023

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says the inability of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to tackle insurgency, banditry and corruption will compel Nigerians to vote out the party in 2023.

Governor Wike noted with the current economic woe of the country and escalating banditry, it was obvious that Nigerians have realised they made a terrible mistake to have voted for the APC.

The Rivers State governor stated this on Thursday shortly after inspecting the Greater Interchange and Underpass being constructed by Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in Yola.

VIDEO: Herdsmen crisis:Wole Soyinka urges President Buhari to address Nigerians

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has urged the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to address Nigerians and make it known publicly that he does not support the criminal activities of some herdsmen in parts of the country.

Soyinka spoke in an interview with BBC News Pidgin.

He warned against another civil war if nothing was quickly done to address the herdsmen crisis rocking the nation.

Soyinka said, “We may enter a phase of serial skirmishes which may get more and more violent and develop – I hate to use the word – may develop into a civil war and a very untidy and messy one at that. That is my biggest fear.”

Oyo and Ondo states have been in the eye of the storm lately over security challenges and the moves to check the activities of killer herdsmen.

A popular Yoruba rights activist, Sunday Adeyemo, well known as Sunday Igboho, had issued a seven-day notice to quit to herdsmen accused of crimes in the Ibarapa area of Oyo and enforced same.

Governor Rotimi Akerdolu of Ondo State also said herdsmen must register with the state government or vacate the state forest reserves.

Commenting on the herdsmen crisis, Soyinka said there should be civil mobilisation now that the herdsmen crisis is at the doorstep of the people of the South-West region.

He said, “If we keep waiting for this to be centrally handled, we are all going to become, if not already, slaves in our land. That for me is intolerable and unacceptable.”

“We are here to live in dignity (but) right now, our dignity is being rubbished,” he lamented.

On what should constitute the speech of the President to the nation on the herdsmen crisis, the Nobel Laureate said Buhari should “address the nation in very stern, unambiguous terms”.

He said the President should say openly:

“Yes, I know I am the patron of the cattlerearers association etc. I’m a cattle rancher myself, it is a business and I run my business on business terms. I do not run my business by raping, by displacing, by torturing.

“I do not run my business by occupying lands that does not belong to me and I am warning all business people in the food commodity, all you cattlerearers, whatever comes to you for illegal occupation or trespassing on other people’s property is your business.

“And I am ordering the army, all the security forces to back citizens’ efforts in flushing you out. I expect nothing less, even at this stage, it is very late but this is what I expect from President Buhari and as long as that language does not come, I must consider him quite complicit in what is going on because the buck stops at his desk.”

There was a mild drama at the Fulfilling World Foundation Church, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Saturday as the senior pastor, Essay Oggory, refused to wed a couple after they arrived 5 minutes late to the venue of their wedding.

In a viral video, the pastor can be seen walking out on the couple.

Families, friends, and well-wishers of the couple, who were at the church for the occasion, were left in shock.

The bride cried uncontrollably as she could not believe what was happening.

However, the pastor was said to have returned to wed the couple after much pressure on the condition that the wedding will happen in his office and not the church auditorium.

The couple rejected the condition and were seen leaving the church compound in their cars.

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council has resolved that the new Ring Road 3 dual carriage way be named after the state's first indigenous Military Governor, Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga.

At a special valedictory session held in honour of the departed former Governor at the Exco Chambers Government House, Uyo Friday, Governor Emmanuel described the late Military Governor as a close friend, confidante and brother.

He said Nkanga remained a reference point for patriotism and statesmanship and that his departure has left a vacuum difficult to be filled.

Describing Nkanga as a reference point for patriotism, statesmanship and forthrightness, Mr Emmanuel said, "Air Commodore Idongesit Nkanga, Rtd, was a gentleman, an officer, a nationalist, a good Christian, my political Director-General, my personal friend, leader of Ibibio nation goodnight”.

Bemoaning his sudden passage, the Governor said Nkanga was a coordinating force in Akwa Ibom State and the entire South-South region.

“Words will fail me to describe how we grieved when we lost this Idongesit of our time, it took time for the void and disbelief to be filled with the acknowledgement that our icon now belongs to the ages and not with us anymore.

"That was when we realized how much he meant to us, how much we identified with him, how much he had become part of the Akwa Ibom dream, we feel a collective sense of deprivation because he still had a lot to contribute”.

The ceremony featured tributes from the Deputy Governor, Mr. Moses Ekpo, Speaker, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt.(Hon) Aniekan Bassey, Senator Helen Esuene as well as former State Chief Judge, Rtd.Justice Idongesit Ntem-Isua and Chief Obot Etukafia who both had served as commissioners under the deceased.

The occasion climaxed with the adorning of the casket of the late Military Governor with the national and state flags and observation of a minute of silence in his honour.
