A very poor man who walked pass a car lot, saw a very big black jeep packed. It was one of the most expensive cars there.

He stopped for a moment and took a closer look at it. He admired the beauty of this car and walked towards it. With his hands, he felt it and imagined himself driving it.

The manager who sighted this man from his office, ran out and shouted at the man for touching the car. He asked why he was touching a car he would not buy.

"Do you have money? Who are you? Do you want to scratch the paint of the car? Get out of this place please. Do not come back here." The manager fired rudely.

The old man felt really ashamed. While he staggered back, the manager called the securities to help throw the man out of the parking lot.

The CEO who watched from his office as the drama went on, called the manager on phone and requested he sends the man into his office.

When the man walked in, the CEO gazed at him. He looked at how unkempt and poor looking the man was.

"What are you doing in a car lot as this when it's obvious you cannot afford any of the cars here?" The manager asked.

"I only admired the car from a distance and wanted to take a closer look at the car." The man explained.

"But you have no money to buy any. Why do you have an eye for things you can never afford?" the CEO asked.

The man looked around the office. Then asked the CEO.

"Is this your company?"

"Yes it is?"

"Do you want it to grow bigger?"

"Yes I do."

"Was this how it was ten years ago?"

"No."

"But it got to this point, and you still want it to grow bigger?"

"Yes I do."

"So why do you have an eye for a bigger company when you cannot afford it?"

The CEO chuckled.

He offered the elderly man a chair and a drink.

"Where are your children?" The CEO asked.

"I had a pregnant wife. But I lost her some years back in a crowd, when the war broke out." The elderly man replied.

"Which war?"

"The war in Nuvindia. The capital of Baribus. Haven't you heard about it? It's been years now. You were still a boy then." The old man said.

"My father is from Baribus too. And my mother grew up in Nuvindia. She spent all her life there and later decided to move out when she lost her husband."

"Is he dead?"

"No. Well, we don't know for certain. He got missing during the war. Seems he was held captive by the enemy nation. It's such a long time. We don't know for certain if he is alive or dead." The CEO explained.

The elderly man and the CEO talked for a longer time about the war and family. In the cause of their conversation, the CEO realised that the elderly man was actually his long lost father.

For he spoke boldly like his father and looked so much alike. They shared so much in common.

The CEO quickly called the manager and ordered the manager to drive his father back home to meet his long lost wife. This time, he ordered that the car his father had touched at the parking lot should be used instead.

It so happened that the manager ended up becoming the driver of the same man he had ordered out of the car lot because he touched a car he couldn't afford.

While driving the elderly man in the car, the manager apologised. He was scared of loosing his Job.

"I am sorry sir. Please do not hold it against me. I never knew."

The old man laughed happily.

"I also didn't know. I hold nothing against you. If you haven't shouted at me and created the scene, I wouldn't have met my son. I would have just walked away and wouldn't be driving in the same car I had touched either. But don't forget, this should teach you a lesson. Be nice to the people you come across in life, you may not know if you will be their drivers someday."

"Does that mean you will make me a driver?"

"Yes."

"But sir…"

"O come on, I am just joking. You are still a manager. But I love the way you drive. You will drive me for some few days, until I am ready to drive this baby myself." The old man said.

Sometimes certain things happens to us for a reason. Not everything is bad luck. Your present condition may be a gate way to your resting place.

I have noticed with disdain that in this part of our world, most Christian couples are not romantic at all. I can say with a heavy heart that romance is virtually dead in many christian marriages.

Many christian couples live like intimate strangers in the name of being spiritual and practicing holiness unto the Lord.

I was at a Christian couples' retreat some years ago where the guest speaker asked all the couples present to kiss each other.

My goodness! You needed to see the look on the faces of most of the couples at that meeting immediately that instruction was given; it was as if they had marched "poopoo". I was a bit irritated by the spirikokoism I saw on display that day.

That day, you will be shocked to see some wives' dodging the lips of their husbands, and some husbands did same to their wives.

In fact, the scene reminded me of that toothpaste advert in the 80s with the song we recomposed as , "Gbenu e soun, o foyin, o foyin, enu e n run"

Dear Husband, when last have you hugged your wife as you were going out or coming in? Do you even hug your wife at all? Or you think your body is the temple of God and must not be used for hugging?

Dear Wife, when last did you grab your husband's head and plant a kiss on his lips?

When last did you dance together? When last did you crack jokes together? When last did you leave the kids with grandma and travel on a fun vacation together? When last did you do pillow fight?

The only time some Christian men hold their wives' hands is when they want to pray together. Se ogun laye ni?

I charge all Christian couples, don't only PRAY together, PLAY together as well.

Husband, feel free to play the keyboard on your wife's body. You paid dowry over the owner of that body.

You see those twins on her chest! Whether they are Extra large, large, medium or small; size does not matter; It could be Water melon or agbalumo, believe me, size does not matter. Play with them regularly and skillfully. Squeeze them often. You think they are mere decorations? You think they are meant for the babies alone? No, sir! Use your hands and mouth skillfully on those things. It does not reduce your anointing.

Smack her playfully on her backyard once in a while! It's not a crime.

Wife, feel free to trouble that man in the other room. Fight like children doing ere ipa! It is allowed. Mummy, It does not reduce your spirituality. It even makes you to bond together. Mummy, do you even sit on Daddy's lap often? We know you are born again. We know you are Spirit filled. So are we too!

I remember how an older pastor advised me some time ago, "Pastor, I have seen how God's power has been flowing in your ministry and it's commendable. If you want to operate in more power, you have to limit how you meet your wife, too much sex with one's wife reduces the anointing." The reason I did not laugh right there before him was because of my respect for his age.

To be candid, Sex does not begin in the bedroom but outside it.

Husband, in the other room, don't just lay your wife on the bed and go straight into action. Haba! Kilode? Who is chasing you? What's the rush? Are you a "Russian?" Who is hurrying you up? Try to go downstairs and work some magic there with your hands.

Wife, don't just lie down on the bed like a log of wood showing no emotions or feelings while the man does all the action. What are your hands for? Kilode? Se Ogun laye ni? Let the man hear your ringtone. It's not a sin for ringtones to be playing in the other room.

"Haaa! Yee! Chimo o! Oooos! aaaas!" sounding in the other room is not a sin o. It doesn't mean you are not a virtuous woman. Infact any "other room" where there is no ringtone during fellowship is a cold room.

Many Christian homes are just too cold and most couples are too formal. Many Christian marriages are just too boring. No intimacy! No display of affection either openly or secretly. This shouldn't be. Christianity is not against romance.

Wife, Please don't listen to those women that are saying a man will still cheat no matter what you do to satisfy him during sex. Don't listen to such women and allow what they say to kill your enthusiasm and action in the other room.

I agree that a man that will cheat will still cheat but that is no excuse for you to be boring in the other room; because I have also seen men that were pushed out because of that. Though that's not a genuine excuse.

Uncle, Daddy, please wake up, be a Lion for aunty/mummy. Aunty, mummy, please wake up, be a Tigress for Uncle/Daddy in the other room.

I believe this will help many Christian marriages....

12. Complain less, appreciate more. It is difficult to enjoy the company of someone who is constantly negative

13. Pray more as a couple. Prayers brings you two closer

14. Do activities together. Find something you both can do together such as cooking, playing a game, watching a movie, dancing; love is built on activity

Akwa United: The Nest That Made The Champions

On August 1st, 2021, a sporting history was made in Akwa Ibom State before the watchful eyes of over thirty thousand football fans at the prestigious Godswill Akpabio International Stadium aka 'The Nest of Champions' when Akwa United FC of Uyo won the Nigeria Professional Football League title in style, the first time in it's 24years history after beating MFM FC 5-2 in a thrilling encounter.

In the history book of the state that will be something to remember.

In 2011/2012 season Akwa United having been relegated for two seasons to the lower division made a return to the elite division of Nigerian football. Fast forward 10 years and the club is the Champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League with two Federation's Cup (Aiteo Cup) in it's title cabinet having won those in 2015 and 2017 seasons.

The records are a testament that a club formed 24 years ago, relegated 12 years ago and back to the top division 10 years ago has today become part of Nigeria's elite clubs with three major trophies in six years.

Success is a long-term journey. There is no quick fix. You will make mistakes. You will face challenges. But for you to succeed, you must be disciplined, resilient and make sacrifices. This sums up the long walk to victory by Akwa United who after hurdles have kept the promise by winning the NPFL title.

Others have won the NPFL title, but none have won it like Akwa United from a slow start to a record-breaking finish that includes; 18-matches unbeaten, which is now the new league record, losing just 5 games out of 38, for the third time in the history of the club producing the highest goal scorer with 19 goals from Charles Atshimene and becoming the first club in Nigeria to have three Golden Boot winners in Akarandut Orok, Mfon Udoh (2) and Charles Atshimene playing in the same team at the same time. Akwa United last home game against MFM also had in attendance over 30,000 spectators and arguably stands as a match record attendance in the NPFL. Indeed, the title was won without blemish.

In his first full season in-charge, Coach Kennedy Boboye has fulfilled the promise he made during his unveiling in December 2019, “I am pleased to be joining Akwa United, a team with great talents and ambition to succeed. Hopefully, I will use my wealth of experience to help the team achieve its set goals and ambitions.”

He started his NPFL coaching career in the West with Sunshine Stars, then moved to the East with Abia Warriors, went up North to Plateau United where he won a league title, a brief stop in the West again with Remo Stars before coming down South to Akwa United where he has also won another NPFL title.

In a twinkle of an eye, Akwa United has moved from a team that battled relegation seasonally to a team that guns for a top finish seasonally. It has become the brightest spot of the NPFL where foreign clubs monitor weekly to get the best legs. A new character, spirit and ambition has been instilled into the team that only the best is good enough. There is a competition for a starting berth which brings out the best in the players. So you either give the best or watch the best from the bench.

While the players, coaches and backroom staff deserve commendation for working as a unit in the attainment of this feat, the man whose effort as one of the founding fathers who planned and saw the formation of the club in 1996 and who through divine providence is currently heading the management team of Akwa United, Elder Paul Bassey deserves much respect. He had a dream and has lived to make the dream come true.

Like he used to say, "Journalism prepares you for everything in life." Here is a five-star Journalist who has become a five-star Sports Administrator both at home and in the diaspora. Having a round peg in a round hole produces great results, take it or leave it, "Paul 'Humble' Bassey" according to the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko is that shoulder Akwa United needed to fly to the top and he did that with great panache.

The role of the state government cannot be overemphasized, timely release of funds for payment of salaries, match bonuses and allowances have greatly motivated the players to break their bodies for the success of the team. Governor Udom Emmanuel remains the most successful sports governor in the history of the state, having two Federation's Cup and an NPFL title won during his administration.

The Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Sir Monday Ebong Uko is a tireless man, so when you wonder why the governor keeps trusting him with the role it's because he delivers, interprets the vision of the governor and surpasses expectation. His middleman role, cordial relationship and desire to succeed has been instrumental not just to Akwa United but all other success stories in sports development in the state. According to Elder Paul Bassey "he is a perfectionist and wants things to be done right."

Akwa United returns to the continent of Africa, not to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup which it has done twice, but to compete in the CAF Champions League with the very best in Africa as the Nigerian Champions. This tag comes with great responsibility. Early preparation and planning, improved budgetary allocation, focus and commitment will work the magic. There is no luck in football, it's garbage in, garbage out and the time to start planning is now.

Congratulations Akwa United, Champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League. The Champions have finally been made from the Nest. From next season, the NPFL Champions play the CAF Champions League at the Nest of Champions. The stadium now fits with all intent and qualification your new status in Nigerian football.
