The lawmaker however noted that states like Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa and Ondo States embarked on the highway projects execution as far back as 2005 to date. They are getting refund in 2020 by only this administration. Time will come when many people will be ashamed of themselves because all the lies and propaganda they have been promoting against Buhari will not fly again. |
RuudVanNisteroy:SORAZ is a joined venture by Niger Republic government and China. Niger Republic is an independent and sovereign nation Even China being the major investor cannot claim the ownership of the refinery.talkless of private individuals.. Whichever way Nigeria has been importing PMS from far foreign countries. What is wrong if the country buys it from a neighbor country which will reduce the landing cost? I am amazed at how people reasons this issue. |

Zikaziken:By GWG Staff Supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari have dismissed Senate Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe’s claim that only one Igbo person, a photographer is working with the president. The supporters speaking under the aegis of the Buhari Media Organisation, BMO in a statement made available to GWG listed 11 persons appointed by the Buhari administration as special assistants by the Buhari administration. The rebuff from the supporters came on the heels of the claim by Abaribe that only one Igbo, working as a photographer is working as an aide of the president. The group in rebuffing Abaribe challenged the Senate Minority leader’s representation in the Senate saying that the Buhari administration has done more for Ndigbo more than any of its predecessors. According to the Buhari Media Organisation (BMO), the Senator’s claim that there is only one personal aide of the President from the South-East is quite mischievous. “His further attempt to give the impression that President Muhammadu Buhari has not done anything for that region is quite laughable and ridiculous, given the realities on ground”. The group said in a statement signed by its Chairman Niyi Akinsiju and Secretary Cassidy Madueke that Senator Abaribe ended up making himself look silly by suggesting that the only personal aide of the President from the region is ‘only’ a photographer. “It beggars belief that an opposition Senator who has been in the corridors of powers since 1999 could knowingly seek to hoodwink Nigerians with a false narrative in a bid to portray President Buhari in a bad light. “Aside from being wide off the mark on the multiple award-winning former ‘This Day’ editor, Sunday Aghaeze who was headhunted by the President for the role he is playing in the Presidency, Abaribe out of mischief, or perhaps ignorance, left out Oge Modie, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Strategic Communications and Uche Ozurumba, Special Assistant to the President on Strategic Communications. |
It is obvious some people are not happy with this resolution. They're now singing praise for ASUU instead of celebrating the good news. Nigeria will be great again! More good news to come despite the naysayers. |

Nigerian family who used teen as sex slave in Russia jailed https://www.iol.co.za/news/africa/nigerian-family-who-used-teen-as-sex-slave-in-russia-jailed-716fb3b2-6de2-5eb6-ba02-7179604320b6 By Nellie Peyton Dakar - Nigeria has jailed three family members for forcing a teenager into prostitution in Russia, the country's anti-trafficking agency said on Tuesday, as officials and prosecutors hailed a rare prison sentence for human traffickers. Two siblings - Vivian Omoyemwen Ehiozee, 31, and Endurance Ehiozee, 37 - were jailed for 14 years and their mother - Helen Ehiozee, 54 - was given a 10-year sentence, said the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). For decades, scores of Nigerian women and girls have been targeted by traffickers, sent to Europe with promises of work, then trapped in debt bondage and forced to sell sex. While Nigeria's anti-trafficking legislation stipulates both prison sentences and fines, convicted traffickers are often spared jail, said Julie Okah-Donli, director-general of NAPTIP. "I'm delighted because prior to now we have been getting very light convictions with the option of fines ... so the traffickers were getting off lightly with so much impunity," Okah-Donli told the Thomson Reuters Foundation by telephone. "I trust this will serve as a deterrent to potential or actual traffickers," she said of the sentencing on Monday in Benin City, Edo state, which is a hotspot for sex trafficking. The victim was 19 years old when she was approached by the traffickers in 2012, NAPTIP said. They arranged her travel documents and said she would work in a hair salon in Russia. The mother, Helen Ehiozee, collected nail clippings and hair from the victim as part of a "juju" ritual that made her believe she would be cursed if she fled. Once in Russia, the victim was told she owed $45 000 and forced to sell sex to clear the debt. The victim paid off her debt after several years and returned to Nigeria, where her testimony helped police identify the traffickers, the agency said. NAPTIP convicted 27 traffickers in the year ending March 2020, shows the U.S. State Department's annual trafficking report, which said fines were sometimes given instead of jail terms because judges were unfamiliar with anti-trafficking laws. A NAPTIP prosecutor said this week's sentencing was "significant" and the most severe jail term she could recall. "Human trafficking is becoming endemic to society," she said on condition of anonymity because she was not authorized to discuss the case. "(Judges) don't really see the need to punish people (traffickers), they just say let them pay." Netflix last month drew attention to sex trafficking in Nigeria with the release of Òlòtūré, a fictional film set in the brothels of Lagos. The thriller became the streaming service's most-watched film in Nigeria, and also proved popular globally. |
SocialJustice:$10 billions is the book cost. The question, you should ask, was it really worth that amount? Politicians and projects over costing are the main ingredient of corruption.

SamAzing:I don't know you but I respect you for admitting the truth. Honesty and conscience are rare and precious gifts. Greetings my brother |
I’m the black barrister who was mistaken for a defendant three times in one day. My story is the tip of the iceberg Last week I tweeted about my experience of being mistaken for a defendant three times in one day. I spoke out about the personal impact that these assumptions had on me. I felt exhausted. I was shouted at, ordered to leave the courtroom and treated dismissively multiple times. It was humiliating and no one, defendant or barrister, should be treated like this. My experience led me to reflect on how the criminal justice system treats defendants. I have seen first hand how terrifying the court experience is for people. Many of my clients are in court for the first time and it can be very daunting. For many, their liberty is at stake. The added pressure of being shouted at or treated dismissively must only heighten people’s nerves. Those incidents also led me to think a lot about why I had been singled out so many times. I had been dressed similarly to every other barrister and solicitor there. It was the Magistrates’ Court and so we don’t wear our wigs and gowns – but I was wearing a black suit with black shoes and I was carrying my laptop. That day, people looked past the obvious signs that I might be there to represent a client and assumed that someone who looked like me was unlikely to be a barrister. Every other legal representative that day was white. Some were fairly young (as is typical in a Magistrates’ Court) and there were a mix of men and women. The other legal representatives were entering and leaving the courtroom without challenge. No one else was ordered to leave the courtroom and no one else was spoken to in a dismissive way. The only thing that set me apart was the colour of my skin. Unfortunately, this experience links to much wider issues of racism in society that need to be confronted. The assumptions made that day highlighted ingrained racial bias in the system, which may partly stem from the disproportionate criminalisation of black people in the UK. Black people continue to be over policed, with the rate of stop and search for black people being 38 per 1,000 people compared to just 4 per 1,000 for white people. A study published by the government also concludes that “black and minority ethnic offenders (particularly male offenders) were more likely to be sentenced to prison than White offenders (particularly white female offenders), under similar criminal circumstances”. https://www.independent.co.uk/voices/black-barrister-defendant-court-racism-alexandra-wilson-justice-b691638.html?utm_content=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&s=08#Echobox=1601396236

Trump ensures first presidential debate is national humiliation https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/sep/30/trump-debate-national-humiliation-analysis#aoh=16014457320683&_ct=1601445750886&csi=1&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From%20%251%24s Analysis: Only one man looked remotely presidential on the debate stage in Cleveland, Ohio, and it was not the incumbent Trump plunges debate into chaos as he talks over Biden David Smith in Washington @smithinamerica Wed 30 Sep 2020 06.19 BST Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare via Email Cry, the beloved country. Donald Trump ensured Tuesday’s first US presidential debate was the worst in American history, a national humiliation. The rest of the world – and future historians – will presumably look at it and weep. More likely than not, according to opinion polls, his opponent Joe Biden will win the November election and bring the republic back from the brink. If Trump is re-elected, however, this dark, horrifying, unwatchable fever dream will surely be the first line of America’s obituary. Donald Trump refuses to condemn white supremacists at presidential debate Only one man looked remotely presidential on the debate stage in Cleveland, Ohio, and it was not the incumbent. He interrupted, ranted, raged, spewed lies and interrupted some more. Oh, and he passed on an opportunity to condemn white supremacists, instead telling them to “stand back and stand by”. The debate moderator, Chris Wallace of Fox News, did not cover himself in glory either. He was a like a school supply teacher, hopelessly out of his depth as unruly children run riot. He did not enforce the rules or cut the president’s mic. Facing this asymmetric bullying, Biden showed self-control and stood his ground. He spoke for tens of millions of Americans when he demanded: “Will you shut up, man?” – the Biden campaign rushed out this slogan on a T-shirt before the debate was even over. Five weeks before the election, the debate pitted an ageing white male against an ageing orange male sweating like Richard Nixon in 1960. Anyone hoping for elegant verbal jousting or rapier-like wit was in for a disappointment. Perhaps it was just as well that coronavirus guidelines ensured the men stood apart at separate lecterns on blue carpeted stage beneath an eagle symbol with the words “The union and the constitution forever”. No handshakes, no prowling by Trump as he did behind Hillary Clinton’s back in 2016, no physical violence. Katie Hill, a former Democratic congresswoman, tweeted: “I literally don’t know how Biden is not running over and punching him in the face.” Trump looked more like a challenger than an incumbent, butting in and hurling petty insults such as: “Don’t ever use the word ‘smart’ with me … There’s nothing smart about you, Joe.” The hapless Wallace struggled to gain control as viewers heard only a cacophony of voices. “I am the moderator of this debate, let me ask my question,” he almost pleaded. Sometimes Wallace was too easy on Trump, though he did tell him at one point: “Frankly, you’ve been doing more interrupting.” Biden mostly kept his cool, preferring to laugh in world weary bemusement. “That was really a productive segment, wasn’t it?” he said sarcastically early on. “Keep yappin’, man.” Other memorable lines included: “You are the worst president that America has ever had”; “The fact is that everything he’s saying so far is simply a lie. I’m not here to call out his lies. Everybody knows he a liar”; “It’s hard to get any word in with this clown – excuse me, this person”; “President Trump wouldn’t know a suburb unless he took a wrong turn.” And, on the coronavirus crisis, which has killed more than 200,000 people in the US: “‘It is what it is’ because you are who you are,” Biden said as he blamed Trump for mishandling the pandemic, and added: “Maybe you can inject some bleach into your arm, that would take care of it.” At moments Biden cut through the chaos by looking directly at the camera and appealing to voters: “This isn’t about his family or my family,” as the attacks turned highly personal. “It’s about your family.” He also avoided some of the missteps that plagued his Democratic primary debate performances. He brushed off the Trump campaign attack that he is beholden to the far left, insisting: “I am the Democratic party right now.” Biden condemned Trump over recent reported comments denigrating dead soldiers as “losers” and “suckers”. He said of his late son Beau, who served: “My son was in Iraq. He spent a year there. He got the Bronze Star. He got Conspicuous Service Medal. He was not a ‘loser’. He was a patriot.” Trump clumsily tried to change the subject to Biden’s son Hunter. Biden retorted: “I’m talking about my son Beau Biden,” and then addressed the attack on Hunter, falsely claiming he was dishonorably discharged from the military. “My son, like a lot of people ... had a drug problem,” Biden shot back. “He’s overtaken it. He’s fixed it. He’s worked on it. And I’m proud of him.” There was not on iota of sympathy from the president or effort to pay tribute to Beau son, who died of a brain tumor in 2015. It was a brief moment of emotional clarity in an otherwise nightmarish, incoherent mess. Worst of all, when Wallace asked Trump if he was willing to condemn white supremacists and militia groups, the president couldn’t do it, saying: “Proud Boys, stand back and stand by! But I’ll tell you what, somebody’s got to do something about antifa and the left.” It is hard to imagine Trump won over a single voter in the suburbs, where he is particularly trailing Biden, or anywhere else. Most viewers will have likely been left feeling angry or sad and may have switched off long before the end. Wallace mused earlier this week: “If I’ve done my job right, at the end of the night, people will say, ‘That was a great debate, who was the moderator?’” The near universal verdict was - expressed in the words of CNN’s political correspondent Dana Bash – a “shitshow”. |

Issued on: 21/04/2020 - 11:46 Modified: 21/04/2020 - 11:45 Madagascan President Andry Rajoelina gave the official launch to a herbal tea claimed to prevent and cure coronavirus Madagascan President Andry Rajoelina gave the official launch to a herbal tea claimed to prevent and cure coronavirus RIJASOLO AFP ADVERTISING Antananarivo (AFP) The president of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina has officially launched a local herbal remedy claimed to prevent and cure the novel coronavirus. "Tests have been carried out -- two people have now been cured by this treatment," Rajoelina told ministers, diplomats and journalists at the Malagasy Institute of Applied Research (IMRA), which developed the beverage. "This herbal tea gives results in seven days," he said. Downing a dose, he said: "I will be the first to drink this today, in front of you, to show you that this product cures and does not kill." The drink, which has been called Covid-Organics, is derived from artemisia -- a plant with proven efficacy in malaria treatment -- and other indigenous herbs, according to the IMRA. But its safety and effectiveness have not been assessed internationally, nor has any data from trials been published in peer-reviewed studies. Mainstream scientists have warned of the potential risk from untested herbal brews. Rajoelina brushed aside any such reservations and said the concoction would be offered to schoolchildren, as it was his duty was to "protect the Malagasy people". "Covid-Organics will be used as prophylaxis, that is for prevention, but clinical observations have shown a trend towards its effectiveness in curative treatment," said Dr. Charles Andrianjara, IMRA's director general. The large Indian Ocean island has so far detected 121 cases and no fatality. The pandemic has triggered a rush for herbal formulas, lemons and ginger in the belief that they can protect against the virus. The World Health Organization (WHO), which has people to be vigilant about claimed cures for COVID-19, did not attend the event. The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), referring to claims for herbal or tea remedies, says: "There is no scientific evidence that any of these alternative remedies can prevent or cure the illness caused by COVID-19. In fact, some of them may not be safe to consume." Source: Madagascar president launches coronavirus 'remedy' - http://f24.my/6P7F.W Congratulations Africa, |

KDSG quarantines entire state Text of State Broadcast by Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, invoking extraordinary emergency provisions against Covid-19, Thursday, 26th March 2020 My dear people of Kaduna State, 1. The State Standing Committee on Covid-19 prevention met today to review global and national developments relating to the coronavirus pandemic. The meeting noted with great concern the rising number of Covid-19 infections being reported daily in Nigeria, including in nearby Abuja. The Committee also considered reports of unsatisfactory compliance levels with the preventive measures that have been outlined by the government in repeated announcements, and with increasing severity, over the past seven days. 2. While compliance levels with school closures is now total, the sad fact is that there is no consistent and significant adherence to the ban on large gatherings and the closure of shops and markets. There were also reports of certain persons not obeying the ban announced on motorcycle taxis and ‘Keke-Napep’ tricycles. 3. Amidst this unfortunate indication that many people are yet to absorb the enormity of the danger that Covid-19 poses to lives, the government pays tribute to all the residents of our state who have complied with public health advice and stayed home. We thank the religious and community leaders, school proprietors, business owners and other citizens who have contributed to our efforts to protect our people from a deadly virus that would easily overwhelm the health facilities and personnel in our state. 4. I would like to put on record our gratitude to persons who have reported individuals because of their travel history or otherwise whom they suspect may have Covid-19 infection in their communities or alerted our agencies to violations of the preventive measures. 5. This is the third broadcast this week, and the second I will be making. Our resolve to use all preventive measures at our disposal remains strong. We are committed to pragmatic and rational means to increase the chances that all our people stay safe, stay home and stay alive. 6. In previous broadcasts, the government made clear that it would not hesitate to impose a curfew if circumstances dictate. With every sense of responsibility, I am compelled to inform you that we are at such a moment. Therefore, the State Standing Committee on Covid-19 has recommended, and the Kaduna State Government has accepted, the implementation of the additional emergency measures to enhance the protection of the health and lives of the people of Kaduna State. 7. In exercise of the powers vested in the Governor by Section 45 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, (as amended), Sections 2 and 8 of the Quarantine Act 1926, now known as CAP Q2, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004 and the Public Health Law of 1917: i. Kaduna State has been declared a public health area, ii. Coronavirus, otherwise known as Covid-19, is hereby declared as a dangerous, infectious disease within the meaning of the Quarantine Act; 8. Further to these declarations, and in accordance with the law, the following shall take effect in Kaduna State: a. From midnight of Thursday, 26th March 2020, all residents of Kaduna State are quarantined and must stay at home. b. No office, event centre, market, shop or business of any sort or place of worship is allowed to open; c. The only category of persons exempted are workers in essential services such as health workers, the fire service and security personnel. Tankers conveying fuel to petrol stations are also permitted to move; d. We recognise that Kaduna State is a transport hub. Therefore, transit through Kaduna will be allowed, provided that such vehicles ply only the Western bye-pass. e. We are grateful that the federal authorities have responded to our persistent requests by suspending the Abuja-Kaduna train service. We expect that this service will not resume until the Covid-19 pandemic is declared over; f. We recognise that this quarantine will have consequences for everyone, but more so for the vulnerable persons in our communities. As indicated in previous statements, the government is procuring food and other supplies, funded from its contingency budget, to mitigate the challenges of a lockdown for such persons. These items will be distributed in community clusters across identified parts of some urban local government areas in the state. This will be a grassroots exercise, as it is people drawn from the the target community that will constitute the committee to manage the distribution. 9. Fellow citizens, let me reiterate that we do not have the human resources and the health facilities to cope with this pandemic should it spread through the towns and villages of our state. The struggles of countries with much better health systems should offer a sobering lesson to anyone who seeks to minimise or trivialise the clear and present danger that we face from coronavirus. This is not scaremongering. We are only observing our solemn obligation to let our people know the full facts, however unpleasant. It is much easier and cheaper to prevent this pandemic than to manage its spread and the attendant suffering and deaths it could inflict on our citizens. 10. Therefore, these emergency measures will be strictly enforced by the security agencies. They have clear directives for the immediate arrest, detention and prosecution of any person that violates these measures. Churches and mosques will be shut, there will be no congregational prayers or services of worship either within these places of worship or in their immediate outdoors. The circumstances of the moment dictate that the worship of God must be conducted in the privacy of our homes, for now. Wedding events and all social gatherings are strictly prohibited while these emergency measures remain in place. 11. Let it be clear that any place of worship, event centre or building that hosts social gatherings will be in violation of its term of grant and therefore risks forfeiting its title to the land and having the site of the offence removed in the public interest. This is a dangerous moment, and we cannot risk the lives of the many to indulge the delusions of a few. 12. Thank you for listening. Please stay safe, stay home, save lives!!! May God bless and protect us all. https://tribuneonlineng.com/covid-19-kaduna-govt-quarantines-entire-state/amp/#aoh=15852492985296&_ct=1585249369878&csi=1&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&_tf=From%20%251%24s
