efighter: The Federal Government has expressed regret over the reported deaths of some workers of the defunct Nigerian Airways occasioned by the delay in the payment of their entitlements.
The defunct national carrier was liquidated by former President Olusegun Obasanjo regime in 2005, and since then the workers had held series of protests over their unpaid entitlements.
The Minister of State for Aviation, Sen. Hadi Sirika, however, told State House correspondents after the meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), presided over by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo that N45 billion had been to settle the ex-workers’ entitlements.
“Governments, in the past, decided just to liquidate Nigerian airways without tending to the issue of the entitlements of the workers and they have been struggling to get that paid and we came in government and we took it very seriously.
“I’m happy to announce that Mr President has approved N45 billion which has been confirmed to be the entitlements of these workers and Ministry of Finance has been instructed to pay and the ministry has written to me last week, to say that they have received the instruction to pay these workers, and therefore, they are setting up the modalities to pay.
“You should know it won’t pay through my ministry before somebody will say I take some of it. It will be paid by finance through a process, and that process will commence very soon,’’ he said.
The Minister disclosed that the Council also approved the procurement of operational vehicles for Nigeria Port Authority (NPA) and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).

Politics › Re: The Pronouncement [Not Declaration] Of IPOB As Terrorists By The Military by BMZK: 10:12am On Sep 19, 2017 |
TonyeBarcanista: By TonyeBarcanista
Yesterday in Abakiliki, Ebonyi state, General Tukur Buratai the Chief of Army Staff made a statement on the pronouncement declaration of Indigenous Peoples of Biafra as a terrorist organization. He said in quote
Two key words in the first paragraph was used by General Buratai while clarifying the position of the Military, they are "pronouncement" and "declaration", while In the second paragraph he mentioned creating "public awareness".
What Does Buratai Really Mean The COAS is simply saying that we did not declare IPOB a terrorist organization, perhaps because of the provisions of the Antiterrorism (Protection) Act 2011 (as amended) but the military sees them as terrorists and has pronounced that they will be approached with the way terrorists are. The military by the pronouncement is telling members of the public (government, citizens, international community, Opposition, supporters etc) that IPOB is a terrorist organization by their conduct.
What Did The Defence Headquarters Really Say?
In the first paragraph they first debunked the notion that IPOB is nonviolent, in the second paragraph they brought the attention of the public to it, in the succeeding paragraph they listed reasons as to why IPOB should be seen as a terrorist organization and they confirmed their assertion in the last paragraph.
The military is simply saying: "after analysing the activities of IPOB, the Military can confirm them to be terrorist organization. We urge the public to be aware of this".
Did The Military Act Out of Order Absolutely No in my opinion!
What the Military has done is what some of us previously pronounced, which is; "IPOB is a terrorist organization judging by their conducts". Cest fini!
The pronouncement by the military nonetheless does not replace an official declaration by the group as terrorist organization according to the Antiterrorism (Protection) Act 2011, but it has set a motion for the government to do the needful by following the procedure of the law.
Permit me to add that the case of IPOB is similar to that of Boko Haram where though the military sees them and approached them as terrorists since they started unleash terror in 2009, but were only officially designated a "Terrorist Group" in June 2013. That doesn't mean they were non terrorists prior to the time of declaration.
Will Terrorism Charge Be Added To Kanu When Rearrested Most likely!
Let it be stated that though IPOB is yet to be gazetted a terrorist organization, it doesn't stop the government from prosecuting Nnamdi Kanu and other arrested IPOB members for engaging in terrorism in Accordance with Section 2 of the Antiterrorism (Protection) Act. However, he may not be be charged for belonging to a terrorist organization. Remember that Henry Okah of MEND is currently facing charge of terrorism for October 1, 2010 bombing in his capacity as Charles Okah even though his group is not designated a terrorist organization.
Why We Can't/Shouldn't Condone The Atrocities of IPOB They burnt down mosques, some people looked the other way because they are not Muslims. They attacked Hausa/Northern community in Oyigbo and Aba, some people looked the other way because they are not from the north. We saw a video where they mounted road block on a highway, burning trucks and were for Hausa/Northerners to kill in Aba, some people chose to look the other way because it doesn't concern them. They burnt police station and allegedly killed policemen/snatched rifle, again some still looked the other way.
Some say they were provoked by the Army, but why not take on the army instead of soft unsuspecting targets? Nigerians should learn from history and see the pattern in which terrorists emerge. I am sure that some people from the northeast will be biting their fingers by now for initially seeing the war against Boko Haram as war against their region/zone. This is because the region is in terrible mess today, unfit for any serious investment and people still live with one eye open and in fear due to series of suicide bombings.
Remember, Boko Haram started off as "nonviolent" group that wants total Shari'a in the North in 2001, in 2009 they attacked security forces and government establishment, they progressed to bombing and attack on churches sparing the mosques, then they moved to markets, then to MOSQUES and Muslim communities, then assassination of clerics (irrespective of the faith) and now all Christians, Muslims, Pagans, Atheist, Igbo, Yoruba, Ijaw etc are enemies of Boko Haram.
Those of us from the Niger Delta can attest the "unreported" atrocities of these so-called Niger Delta militants against locals and how some of them are feared like demigods (I won't mention names for safety reasons).
I want to urge Nigerians irrespective of ethnic group or political leaning to stop supporting actions that threatens national security, especially as it regards lives and properties.
Nigeria masses should understand that power intoxicate and if a group of people see that they have the support of the people to engage in act of terror/violence, they will sooner than later turn against same people that cheer them, causing a lot of terrible damage.
Finally, we are all marginalized, we all have our aspirations as a group irrespective of whether it's secession, restructuring or maintenance of status quo, but one thing we must always ensure that we refuse to allow any individual or group to hijack and manipulate our noble aspirations for their political and financial benefit. We also must be nonviolent in words and in action IF WE REALLY want the world to take us serious like they did Kosovo in 2008, Scotland in 2013 and just of recent Catalans.
May God Bless Us All And Bless Nigeria Your reasoning is based on logic and facts. Unfortunately you are mostly dealing with illogical and non reasonable people. They will never understand you. |

Politics › Suggest A Way Forward To Curtail The Current Crisis In The East by BMZK(op): 2:56pm On Sep 14, 2017 |
Dear Nairalanders, If you are asked to make suggestions , what will you advise the FG to do in order to calm down the IPOB/ARMY clashes going on now in the east? My suggestions go as follow: Suggestion 1
* Kanu should make a broadcast and call his followers to desist from any form of confrontations with security officers or civilians from other parts of the country. * Kanu to willingly stop holding rallies and comply with the bail conditions issued by the court until his trial resumes. If Igbo elders cannot persuade Kanu to achieve the above FG should proceed with suggestion 2.
Suggesstion 2
* Declare state of emergency in Abia state; * Impose 24/7 curefew; * Arrest Namdi Kanu and charge him to court with new offences;
I believe if the above steps are taken normalcy will be restored within 1 week. Many people are suggesting for the FG to withdraw the army which personally i disagree with because by so doing, it will set a bad precedent for individuals to believe anyone can underestimate and challenge the power of the FG. Please share your suggestions because human lives are sacred to be used as collateral damages. |

lancee: https://trwstockbrokers./2017/08/01/exclusive-how-ayeni-wrecked-skye-bank-management-writes-osinbajo/ In the letter signed by Abiru and Ahmad, the bank gave details of how Ayeni allegedly used loans from the bank to acquire major government companies.
“Upon the assumption of duty by the new board, one of the immediate concerns that needed to be addressed was to ascertain the true state of the affairs and financial position of the bank and the credibility of the IT and information systems of the bank,” the letter read.
“To this end, the following were undertaken: engagement of PWC do to half-year audit as of June 30, 2016. This was later extended to cover the full year to December 31, 2016.
INDUSTRY INDEBTEDNESS
“The bank’s total exposure to Ayeni as of the date is about N70bn. It is clear that he used his position as the chairman of the bank to obtain inside loans well above the regulatory thresholds for the acquisition of the following government enterprises: Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, Yola Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and Nitel/Mtel. All the facilities are presently seriously challenged.
“As of today, Ayeni’s total industry indebtedness, covering both Nitel and the Electricity Distribution Companies (Discos) is estimated at about N150bn, and little, if any, of these obligations, are being doubtful that he will ever be in a position to service these loans satisfactorily.”
The letter also said another N33 billion was traced to Ayeni, saying there was suspicion that that out of this amount, N7 billion was spent on the re-election campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“The sum of N7bn was disbursed without due process to various individuals and corporate organisations on the request of Godknows Igali, a former permanent secretary of the federal ministry of power,” it read.
“The monies appear to have been expended essentially on the Jonathan-Sambo electoral campaign in 2015. That sum remains outstanding as at today.
“There is ample evidence that he (Ayeni), among others, received large amounts of cash, totalling N29.5bn, from the bank, which appears to be connected to the purchase of Mainstreet Bank Limited, but which has not been accounted for.
“He was instrumental in the approval and disbursement of the liquidity management which went on throughout his tenure.”
‘SEIZE ASSETS’
The management recommended that the government assist it to seize Ayeni’s assets.
“The former chairman should be brought to account for his central role in many of the identified infractions,” it read.
“We have been able to perfect the debenture on the fixed and floating assets of Natcom, the vehicle that was used for the acquisition of Nitel and Mtel with asset estimated at N282bn (Open market value) and N183bn (forced sale value) by Knight Frank in 2014.
“This will put us in a position to place the company into receivership for recovery. However, in order to come to fruition, this approach will require strong and unyielding support from the regulatory and political authorities in the country.”
The management also indicted Akinsola Akinfewa, Kehinde Durosinmi-Etti and Oguntayo, all former GMDs of the bank.
Other individuals listed in the petition for various acts of infraction are Femi Otedola, chairman Forte Oil Plc, Festus Fadeyi and Jide Omokore. PMB is a share holder, you will surely have the government support on the above bold. |
