PoliticsRe: Opinion: Why Do The Yorubas Exhibit High Level Of Religious Tolerance? by bobowaja(m): 9:26pm On Jul 19, 2020
TAO11:
Extant written accounts confirm that the name “Yoruba” (referring to a tribe) pre-dates the year 1613. This fact is further explored towards the end of my comment.

Regarding etymology, available evidence suggest that this name must have begun as an Oyo hegemonic endonym — “Oyo r’ Oba”, that is: “Oyo is the king [among its peers]”.

But in any case, the word "Ya.ri.ba" which you seem to be alluding to here (as is often alluded to by many pitiable Nairaland ignoramuses) is an European attempt at rendering the word "Yoruba".

European misspellings/mis-articulations of indigenous ‘Nigerian’ words are not uncommon as is seen in some examples like “Beny”/“Benin” for ”Ubini”; “Jekri” for “Itsekiri”; and “Geebuu” for “Ijebu” among many others.

In order that you may eventually be disillusioned from your present fantasies about the Yorubas, consider the fact that neither the word “Yoruba” nor the word “Ya.ri.ba” have any meaning whatsoever in the languages of the Hausa/Fulani peoples. grin

In case you will insist on the contrary to the foregoing, then please ensure that you adduce some linguistic evidence from any authoritative bilingual lexicon of your choice.

I am of both Awori and Ijebu heritage. I am proudly Yoruba. wink

What you fail to see here is the fact that you present yourself as very little and very ignorant by attempting to dissociate Awori and Ijebu from their Yoruba heritage. But I think I have an idea of what you’re trying hard to compensate for. grin

Moreover, the following video shows Lagos and Ogun Awori kings and leaders paying their rightful homage at their shared cradle of Yoruba civilization (Ile-Ife) during the Olofin festival named after their ancestor (Olofin Ogunfunminire) who is said, in Awori accounts, to have led their migration from Ile-Ife to today’s Lagos and parts of Ogun States:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88-cG1nC8fM

Regarding the Yoruba subgroup known as Ijebu, I am happy to enlighten you that there is no such thing as only one Ijebu kingdom.

Rather, there are almost innumerable Ijebu kingdoms of which the Ijebu-Ode kingdom is only one. Some others include: Ijebu-Igbo, Ijebu-Ife, Ode-Omi, Ishagamu, Ishara, Ipara, Ikorodu, among several others.

For all these Ijebu kingdoms, their extant traditional account maintains the general Yoruba position that they are a people whose respective kingdoms originate ultimately from Ile-Ife.

Moreover, their respective currently reigning monarchs (except the currently reigning monarch of Ijebu-Ode who has something different to say about the Ijebu-Ode kingdom) all admit their respective traditional accounts.

Regarding Ijebu-Ode particularly, it should be made clear that the only exception to the Ife origin account is the currently reigning monarch, Oba S.K. Adetona who was installed in the year 1960.

Prior to the beginning of his reign, and even prior to his birth, the extant traditional account of Ijebu-Ode kingdom (which he has been attempting to overturn for interesting reasons) has always been that of three waves of migration from Ile-Ife.

In fact, the extant traditional account of Ijebu-Ode which speaks of the migrations from Ile-Ife had long been captured into writing by the indigenous D.O. Epega in the year 1919, during the reign of Oba Adetona’s predecessor, some 15 years before Oba Adetona’s birth.

Regarding the “Gun” (popularly known as “Egun” ), these are in fact not a Yoruba subgroup (even though some of them have dwelt interspersed around the frontier region of today’s ‘Nigeria’ and ‘Republic of Benin’, with heavy influences from the Yoruba group).

Just as the Awori, Ijebu, or Oyo, etc. are a subgroup of the broader Yoruba ethno-linguistic group, the Gun (or Egun) are a subgroup of a broader ethno-linguistic group known as Aja (or Adja).

Other subgroups (alongside the Gun) within the Aja ethno-linguistic group are the Allada and the Fon.

Really?? Lol.

Listen up: The Yoruba subgroups of today’s ‘Republic of Benin’ and ‘Togo’ such as: the Ketu, the Idasa, the Sabe, the Ahori, the Mahi, the Sha, and the Ife (of Togo) continue to self-identify till date as Yorubas.

Are they also part of this so-called “PoLiTiCaL alLiAnCe” which you’ve miraculously come up with? And how?

Moreover, the Yoruba subgroups of today’s ‘North Central Nigeria’ such as: the Owe, the Oworo, the Jumu, the Bunu, the Yagba, the Ikiri, etc. also continues to self-identify as Yorubas.

Do they also belong to your so-called “PoLiTiCaL alLiAnCe”? And how? Lol.

Now, if you care to get some education on this, then consider the following:

(1) The first known written reference of the word “Yoruba” is found in the writings of then Timbuktu’s greatest scholar, Ahmad Baba al-Timbukti. This dates to the year 1613.

By implication, he was referring to an ethnic group that had long pre-existed.

In fact, to quote the words of Toyin Falola & Matt D. Childs from page 41 of their joint work “The Yoruba Diaspora in the Atlantic world”:

Yoruba has been a descriptive category for people speaking a common language in the interior of the Bight of Benin since at least the sixteenth century [i.e. the 1500s], and likely earlier still.

(2) Moreover, Professor R.C.C. Law has shown that the term “Nago” was an earlier endonym for this same group of people — the Yorubas.

Yoruba is an Hausa name. There is no tribe known as Yoruba prior to the 18th century.

Aworis, Egun, Ijebu are not yorubas. You can kee yaself.

He should add Ekiti, Akoko, Ilaje, Ijesha, Egba etc to that list. Since it is not named Ekiti Yoruba or Akoko Yoruba then it is not Yoruba. These people logics beats me. So wack.

Using Ring is an old fashion of proposing to a lady, Must men still use it up till date?

Can't they use Cars, Landed properties, Company shares, investment Portfolios to prospose marriage?

What's your take on this?
I rarely comment on romance thread. But all ur posts and threads reeks on entitlement mentality. Why can't you get those landed properties or cars from your father since he started working before the supposed unfortunate guy that will end up with you?

SLAP44:
The ills of godfather politics cannot be overemphasised, it has become a cancerous growth in the politics of Nigeria. The masses of most parts of Nigeria has been relegated to mere spectators in the politics of who to select to best represent them in positions of authority.

Some parts of the country has stood up and are almost free of the evils of godfather politics to the extent that it's at its barest. Let's see a lot of these examples

Oshiomole was able to install Obaseki, and came back and flushed him when he wanted, the whole people of Edo were bystanders to the whole drama.

Tinubu installed fashola, installed Ambode, installed Sanwo olu, and if he wakes up tomorrow and wants him impeached next week, Obasa will be governor by this time next week.

In contrast,

Jim Nwobodo installed Chimaroke, Chimaroke retired him from politics
Chimaroke installed Sullivan chime, Chime turned round and kicked him out of the PDP,
Sullivan installed Gburugburu, Gburugburu didn't want any meddlement so blocked Sullivan who ran into APC and political obscurity.
Las las ikpeazu share kerosene and won re election. grin grin

You guys neglected ur wastelands to gloat over other peoples lands and what happens there. Why not agitate for better govt in ur lands? Why run away from your lands and turn around to shame the govt of those lands u run to? Deep hypocrisy

TravelRe: My Flight Experience With A Flight Attendant by bobowaja(m): 9:24pm On May 26, 2020
Chuky7:
Four months ago before the covid 19 pandemic, a company I was working for (On contract basis) flew me and my team members to our destination of work and back when the work was done.

During this flight I saw this pretty fair skinned Flight Attendant. She was just so astonishing beautiful and diligent, always smiling at everyone (obviously being the nature of her work)

I guess she had a magic touch on because I couldn't get my mind off her. She only had contact with me once, when I requested a change of seat so I could view the sky. I told her she was gorgeous and good at her work. She smiled and asked what I do I told her am into tech. She said she knew nothing about tech but would love to learn a thing or two. That moment she left to attend to other passengers.

We got to our destination. The plane landed and passengers were getting off.

I looked around for her as I stood up but didn't see her. I even asked one of her fellow flight attendant if she knew her but she couldn't recognize who I spoke of. So I left it that way.

She just stuck in my mind until now..
I’ve searched from Google, facebook and instagram and even some dating websites. Nothing.

Of course i sent an email to the Airline to
Praise them for their service and codedly asked for her contact number. Unfortunately they told me the info is Private and they can only share the email to him when she's off duty.

I am hoping on trying all the possible way to find her. I bought some flight tickets of her airline for
traveling.

Am just hoping i can meet her again and get her number myself.

How I hate myself for not being smart and fast enough to ask for her contact details before I alight from the plane. I even forgot her name and I do not know how am I going to locate her.

I love meeting people all around the world and in spontaneous places. Other than the normal. That really gets my blood rushing (I guess that's why I have so much interest in her)

How you suggest I find her?...

Has anyone had similar experience... Maybe in the air or in some crazy location

Ishilove:
I never give relationship advice on my Facebook page. That's not what this is. Today, I will just talk about Men who Hate Women, and the Women that Love them.

Do you know how to "razzle" babes? I do now. But I wasn't born with that knowledge. I had to learn how.

Growing up as a kid in Nigeria wasn't easy. Our parents mostly tried their best to instill the values handed down to them from their parents, but raising a child in Africa is to a large extent a community effort. Your parents too learnt from their community.

Besides there were some things you had to learn on your own. There was a lot of trial and error. A lot of cuts, bruises, scraped knees, butted heads and broken bones. Physical and mental scars.

The emotional pain was real but never acknowledged. As a teenager getting to know yourself, navigating social interactions and romantic relationships was taboo but essential knowlege.

Nowadays kids have counsellors, psychologists, the internet, xanax, phones and all that to deal with that stuff.

Those days you had your hand and a copy of Lolly magazine.

But you still had to get laid.

The girls too were naive, brainwashed, misinformed, conflicted, indoctrinated, caged, paranoid and Hot. Abused and scarred. Just like the boys.

Hurt people, hurt people. You cannot give what you don't have. The blind cannot lead the blind. Nobody is perfect and you are constrained to work with what you have.

In the state we were in, we were in no condition to love ourselves. But we had to love somebody. Even if we didn't know how.

But how does a monster love a ghost? The worlds leading psychotherapists armed with encephalographs and MRI machines would have a hard time diagnosing what our major malfunction actually was today. In those days, as a teenage boy, as a young man, you had to figure out a young woman.

Some people spend their whole lives trying to figure women out. They never do. Women are not designed to be figured out. But people know stuff. Arcane knowledge exists. Some boys were much better at it than others. We looked up to them. If you were lucky, your older brother would pull you aside. If you were curious enough you would ask or watch a "successful" friend. If you were desperate enough you would pay the street jock money. If you were nice enough your own sister would sit you down.

"You're getting it wrong." "You're overthinking it." "You've watched too many Disney cartoons." "It's really quite simple." "It's only that it's counterintuitive." "Let me teach you." "You're a sharp guy." "You will learn."

And so we learnt.

We learnt how to be a sexist.

We learnt how to be scum.

We learnt how not to value women.

We learnt how to get women drunk and take advantage of them.

We learnt how to emotionally abuse women.

We learnt how to emotionally manipulate women.

We learnt how to give half compliments.

We learnt how to keep a womans Ego in check.

We learnt how to bully women.

We learnt that men are superior to women.

We learnt how to exploit women.

We learnt that women were supposed to clean up after me.

We learnt that it was a womans duty to cook for me.

We learnt that even the finest woman is insecure about her looks.

We learnt that no matter what a woman does or achieves, at the end of the day I am still superior to her.

We learnt that a woman should be careful the way she talks to me.

We learnt that women are not very intelligent.

We learnt that no woman is complete if she is not under a man.

We learnt that unmarried women of a certain age have something wrong with them.

We learnt that most women are cheap.

We learnt that women are vulnerable to flattery.

We learnt that most married women are sex starved.

We learnt that single mothers are desperate and easy picking.

We learnt that once you promise a girl marriage she will do anything you ask.

We learnt that if you don't occasionally beat your girlfriend she will insult you.

We learnt that if a woman thinks she is too good for you, you can guilt her into a relationship by calling her proud.

We learnt that if you want to control a single womans behaviour, threaten her that she will die single.

We learnt that if you want to insult a married woman, tell her that you have a woman like her at home.

We learnt that if you want to shame a woman, call her a prostitute.

We learnt that you can rape and subsequently blackmail a girl into becoming your girlfriend.

We learnt that in a relationship, I can cheat, but my Girlfriend is not allowed to.

We learnt that if a girl visits you, she's asking for it.

We learnt that if a girl dresses provocatively, she is Hot.

We learnt how to intimidate a girl into giving me her phone number.

We learnt that women would do anything for money.

We learnt that you can stalk a girl into becoming your girlfriend.

We learnt how to flash my erect penis.

We learnt that when a woman says No, sometimes she means yes.

We learnt that once you buy a girl anything and she accepts, she owes you sex.

We learnt that women feel inferior without being claimed by a man.

We learnt that women are ungrateful so you have to get your reward instantly before they forget what you've done for them.

We learnt that women don't know what they want.

We learnt that if you help a woman you have to sleep with her or you're a fool.

We learnt that if you have an opportunity to Bleep a woman and you don't, you have lost her respect.

This is what Nigerian women don't understand. We, Nigerian men, actually intentionally, through conscious effort, learnt this behaviour. But that's not the strangest part.

The strangest part, the reason why we find it so hard to unlearn this behaviour, is that most of the time, maybe 7 times out of 10, IT WORKS.
Even this post is highly manipulative. You took up a man posture (person wey no know u go think say u be man). And then you tried to guilt trip men. As if all those things listed up there are bad behaviors. You cleverly interwove good and bad and classed them all in bad category. You are smart tho. But you re a novice in psychology.
