The Federal Government on Monday pleaded with the government of Indonesia to commute the death penalty passed on Nigerians in the country’s prison, to life imprisonment. Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama, made the plea in a joint communique issued at the end of bilateral meeting between the minister and Retno Marsudi, his counterpart from Indonesia. He said, “On consular issues, Nigeria recognises the drugs emergency situation in Indonesia and pleaded for commuting death penalty to life imprisonment.” The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that there are about 50 Nigerians serving various jail terms for different offences in Indonesia with about 11 of them on death row. Human Rights organisation, Legal Defence and Assistance Project (LEDAP), had called on the federal government to boost its efforts in fighting for Nigerians on death row in foreign countries. The organisation stated that no fewer than 300 Nigerians were currently on death row in prisons across Asian countries since 2016. LEPAD said 120 Nigerians faced the prospects of death in Chinese prisons, and over 170 in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and five in Qatar, United Arab Emirate and Saudi Arabia. The organisation estimated that about 16,500 Nigerians were being held abroad, while most of those on death row were convicted of DRUG-RELATED CRIMES. Mr. Onyeama said the two countries agreed to deepen contacts between their respective national Chambers of Commerce and private sector operators with a view to further enhance bilateral trade and investments. He added that they also agreed on the importance of enhancing the existing cooperation between the two countries. He said the two countries agreed to simplify bilateral trade through the establishment of a Bonded Logistic Centre in one of Nigeria’s ports that could be used for Indonesian products. Mrs. Marsudi had earlier announced her government’s growing interest in promoting mutually beneficial economic relations with Nigeria. The visiting minister expressed concern that there had been decline in bilateral trade between both countries in the last five years. She said her government was prepared to enhance its economic relations with African countries, especially with Nigeria, in the years ahead. She said that Nigeria and Indonesia have the resources and energies to enhance their areas of cooperation. john4reala:I am sure your house is not painted and also don't have a car, So spare us. BTW, show us how your governor has surpassed Ambode. |
Lagos is the true definition of class. It is about time we SWers aggressively implemented our regional development plans. Before some disgruntled compatriots 'develop' it for us. |
Eazybay:Intervention plan? From who? From the "PARASITES, EWEDU EATERS, KUNU SIPPERS" or who? Since Igbos own 70% of investments and property in Lagos and have developed the SW, Their elites and not THE ZOO should fund the development commission joor!!! |
Our brothers are funny, They often chestbeat that the whole of SE is developed and that all developments in the SE have been without FG's allocation, They even said that Nigeria will suffer after their secession, Worse still, they labelled Northerners as parasites as well claiming to develop Lagos, So how can a SO-CALLED DEVELOPED REGION be clamouring for a development commission? (Or have you seen the UK, US et al begging for foreign aid?) How come a developed republic is competing with the Boko Haram ravaged NE for a development commission? |
Never you feel indispensable, Death is respecter of nobody, There are thousands lined up for the post you fill, Life goes on BTW, the aspirant on the last picture be like Chosen G.O. |

victorDanladi:To those chestbeaters who claim Lagos IGR is due to the existence of seaports, I hope you can see that it is the FG that collects import duties and not the state governments. If port revenue were to the states governments, Cross River's IGR in the past six years would have dwarfed the likes of Ogun, Rivers, Delta combine. Lagos and Ogun IGR results are due to INGENUITY and CREATIVITY and not CHESTBEATING, HATRED & DRUG TRAFFICKING. |

So sure these sort of pictures would be very rare in the next two decades. In our own time of baby mamas and daddies where many are not willing to make marital commitment. God help this generation. |
Each time I pass through Abeokuta enroute Ibadan, my heart prays for him for massive transformation of Abeokuta with his road projects Even flyovers are six lanes unlike what is found in most places. The model school project are visible enough. While he has touched Otta, Ijebu, Abeokuta he has not shown enough concern for Ifo. God bless Amosun, God bless the SW, God bless the Omoluabis, God bless Nigeria. |

okrote4real:Mr Senator, do your job and stop ranting, The country expends as much as 150bn (over 4 times more than the IGR of all SE states {States Viability Index 2016}) yearly on the maintenance of you people yet you are saying they are complaining. Truth hurts!!! |
This is very commendable. Nice one from Umahi, BTW, the IGR of Ebonyi does not correspond with the costs of the numerous projects UMAHI has engaged in so far, Which means Ebonyi still largely relies on federal allocations YET our Igbo brothers tag others as parasites as if they contribute the largest share of our national revenue. I must say, if anyone has the right to brag(in terms of revenue contribution), it is the SS, SW then SE. Truth hurts |

bumi10:Who are the "US" and "OUR"? If FFK wants to die, he can go and kill himself in the other side of the Niger, at least he would find like minds there. So far ONE NIGERIA still serves the YORUBA 'national' interests, we are going no where!!! The funny thing here is that same FFK was canvassing for GEJ to continue as the C-in-C of ONE NIGERIA some 2 years ago. Let the Biafrans go, their continued stay has contributed immensely to the disrespect of the green passport (particularly in Asia and SA) |
